[Q] Bootanimation help! (NO Root) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus and I want to change the boring boot animation to a custom one however I'm not rooted and I found out about the adb command method but it's not working with me i do: adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local in command promp and everything goes well even when I test it: adb shell bootanimation it works but when it comes to actually rebooting it just brings up the stock boot animation...
So can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance!

You need root to change bootanimation dude....

Well, I don't think you're right because I came across tons of websites that said I can...
And rooting isn't an easy option for me because I can't afford to possibly brick my phone or affect it negatively!
So any more options?

Then how come you haven't changed it already? Root is required to make most system changes so I don't know what sites you're viewing that state otherwise?

Do you even know what adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local is? You are putting the bootanimation.zip file into the /data directory which cannot be written to without root.
Also, this is xda. If anything, you are on CNN.com and the "other websites" are tabloid sites. Trust the advice you find here

Tons of sites including this one!

I think you should try pushing to system/media OP.
root access is generally irrelevant, the file just needs to be there and have the right name.

If you install the root right, e.g. From xda-developers (usually there are guides how to install) you nearly can't brick it. It's very hard to make a full brick

So what i've red before is, that you must have installed root because u need access to the bootanimation files

Blue Particles Boot Animation

For those who do not like the Asus boot animation, here is the blue particles boot animation that works on the 300 pad. Just use root explorer and rename the original boot animation in system/media to bootanimation.bak and place this one place in the same folder then reboot, enjoy!
I am not a fan of deleting anything out of a tab or phone until we have a workable recovery.img so I recommend just renaming everything that you change! If you liked and use please hit the thanks button.
So this is 1280x800? Can we usr any this size?

if the blackground is a constant color and the animation does not go off screen, you should be able to utilize any resolution.
Yes, I have this boot animation on my Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab and the TF300 and it seems to re-size somewhat on each device.

I wanna say thanks for this boot animation. Pretty darn cool. I'm enjoying it. Thought it was so much better than the stock bootaanimation, that I even restarted the tablet to show my wife. She thought it was a blast, and giggled.
Thanks again. Wish you had a small photo on the thread so others would know what its going to look like. But it was worth the install.

Very cool !

My wife thought it would be a cool idea if someone could make a "Quantum Leap" theme boot animation.
I guess it can be done.....right?

How do you apply this on non rooted devices?

You people should stop responding to posts made in the wrong forum.
that was redundant no.....troll along
so what im seeing so far is unless there is a file i can flash with fastboot im screwed......either that or a 2.3.5 sbf
and here we have teh downside to flashing a rom that has no root access on a locked bootloader.
(or apparently /system/bin/sh, hence the no data no adb )
you had to out me lmao
Thats not the correct use of the word redundant. And if trolling is promoting the very simple rules of this forum, then yeah, I'm a troll.
Doesn't hurt to help the guy though. Damage is already done

Ok, but why not to make another thread in q/a, post a link here to that new thread and report this thread yourself to moderator, to close it, that you opened it by mistake? That's what I would do.
No trolling, just playing by rules.
I am glad, when I can be helpful, but this guy shows no respect.
I think, there is a chance, to reflash rooted /system by RSD Lite. This was done on Defy, so why not here. Only would take some research and trying.
If you all read the posts i did state that the post was mad in development in error but i will be updating this post with steps to restore your phone in case you install rockos test 2.3.5 bootstrap on 2.3.5 ota. That rom is so screwed, missing root, shell.

Yes but shell mossing was the cause of that and without shell i had no adb access, terminal access and no sbf option, ended up having to modify a terminal apk to use the webtops shell so i could even have terminal access was going to post the method in case anyone else does the same.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but it'd be nice if CWM had some method for the app, or for devs to implement auto mounting of necessary partitions or folders.

Nobody else mounted system in cwm and flashed the zip? Worked perfect over here

For me I got it to work by copied the apk over to the systems/apps dir. Renamed the original then changed the permissions. Works pretty good. The lock screen part seems to have issues for the display. It will show just a default music icon. then when i change a song using the controls, it will find the right text to display. Anyone else seeing that?

[CWM][MOD][FONT] System-wide Emoji Support (Gingerbread & ICS)

This CWM zip will enable emoji compatibility throughout the system. I believe Jellybean supports it natively and some ICS roms (e.g., CM9) have it. I'm not sure if CM9 support is only in the messaging app, but this zip enables it system wide, which means you'll be able to see them in the browser, Twitter apps, etc. Unfortunately, they only appear in black and white. If there are any problems with flashing, you can manually extract the files to the appropriate directory (/system/fonts) with 644 permissions.
Flash in recovery or manually extract contents
Download

I also got the status error "0" in cwm.
I'm using Root Browser lite. Not sure how to mount to read/write.
EDIT:
I managed to get it working. I had to tweak Root Browser lite to allow me to change permissions. I noticed when you extract the files into the /system/font folder, it doesn't overwrite the old ones; it just renames the extracted files with a "-copy" suffix. I deleted the old files then removed the "-copy" from the extracted files. Rebooted and confirmed its working now.
Thanks for this mod! Now I can see what iPhone users are emoji-ing about...lol

Since we're replacing the font files with modded ones, the emojis act like regular fonts. They're supposed to be black and white...unless you change your phone's font color to something else.
I think (in theory), the emojis on the iPhone are linked to a certain image based on the character combinations... : ) =, : ( = etc...

Hi good day guys,
My name is Mike and I'm a newly member of this site, most of my friends in our country refer me to join this site because they say that I will be educated here in may things about smartphones etc. and I firmly believed that it is true based on my observations in other forums about how members interact to those who have inquiry and I really admire those person because they keep helping others.
anyway. I just want to be educated in rooting cause I already root my device but I don't know what to do next to avail the priviledge of being root, hope you will help me guys. I really appreciate your response to this question. thanks and God bless
Hi mike..

Anything* means:

Now if there are no instructions, you usually just have to flash it and then reboot.

As of now Sir i have a problem with my phone because i didnt know that it is not right to transfer files from my phone storage to sd card like system files, im now in android system recovery and dont know what to do with my phone, i hope some one will help me in this trouble cause i dont know if this is the situation they called brick. thanks for your reply, i will gladly appreciate it.
This is the whole story regards my current problem
early this morning as i open my phone, i used to think that if i will transfer all files from my phone "system" in my 8g sd card it will be helpfull to lessen the burden of my processing ram that is 489mb available. I attemp to use root explorer to transfer the system files on my sd cards. i cut it in the root explorer option and paste it in my sd cards that is 8g. seconds passed it transfer files but as minute goes by it stock up and dont run anymore. i used to press the reboot system which is power botton + up volume and hold it in a couple of seconds. and then i stock in the system recovery and dont know what to do next. everytime i install some zip. files it is written that E: SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED INSTALLATION ABORTED. thats the whole story. hope someone will help me to fix this issue.thanks for your time reading my message.

This app helps yu to backup or restore any of your applications (including system apps)
So before doing something crazy...please make a backup of them and carry oon with yua experiments

Thanks a lot my friend, anyway how i can install link2sd.apk if i cant run my phone because it is in the system recovery mode? will it run in the system recovery mode if i will download it in my sd card? thanks again
No..it wont work like that buddy!

Sorry man! Your stock rom was collapsed.....i got the same situation(error signature) with my samsung galaxy tab. Then i came to know that it was soft bricked.
Then i kept my phone in download mode and flashed stock rom(available in official samsung site) through Odin software using my laptop. Then is worked like before
So now what you do is......
Open google..and search for "How to soft unbrick **your phone model** "
You may find something which is helpfull.

Can you access your normal launcher and all that or is the recovery the only thing that works?
