[Q] [RECOVERY] CWM Touch recovery 6.0.1.2 and Samsung updates ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I like the original Samsung stock roms and I want to keep all the options offered by Samsung, spcecially the OTA updates and I don't need root access for my device.
However, for my backup/recovery needs, I tried the ClockWork Mod Recovery Touch 6.0.1.2 via Odin and I really appreciated it ! I tried the backup/restore option and it really worked like a charm for me !
Unfortunately, the GS 3 reported that the OS has been modified and no updates are now available. I perfectly understand that but I thought that the recovery affects just the boot section, not the entire OS...
There is a way to keep both CWM and Samsung updates working ?
Thank you very much for your help.

You rooted your phone to be able to flash the CWM recovery, the need for root is almost implied in your comment
And for the answer, that would be: NO
I've read some post throughout XDA of some users saying they rooted their devices and the status stayed in Official, keep in mind that the device recovery is part of android itself, not something related to the hardware (otherwise, it probably couldnt be modified in the first place), any changes to this WILL be detected by the S3, so this is most likely some stupid lie
I would suggest using an app called MyBackup Pro by Rerware... it's around 3$ on the store and it can even backup the ORDER OF THE ICONS on the app drawer, that for me, is plain awesome, it also does what titanium backup and other backup apps do, locally and remotely
as for the OS, ODIN does a pretty good job to flash firmwares of any kind, after that, just DL mybackup and restore everything
of course, having backup and restore in cwm is much more comfortable, but to avoid the hassle of having to revert and possibly wiping everything to get an OTA update, might as well dont do it and keep it legitimate, in fact, odin can flash official sammy firmwares too

Hello Guys,
I am from India too...Hyderabad..
Got the Mega 6.3 I9200 one week ago and successfully rooted it.
Installed most of the games and they work flawlessly. All apps working great.
Phone is great...My Kid loves it alot..............
Only thing is I have a problem with the USB Storage. When the phone is connected to the computer running Windows 8 32-bit version, I do get the option to transfer files using USB to PC but the disc drive does not show up in My Computer. Changed many settings but cannot transfer files to SD Card..I have tried all possible solutions in many forums especially XDA-Forums and Google.Com but nothing worked. The only way I was able to transfer files is by using the Mini USB to USB flash drive cable. See the image attatched. Please let me know if anyone is facing this issue and tried any solution that worked.. Thank you..
I love the phone...

The real issue is that there is no working CWM for our devices. Therefore, the CWM files that are being created don't successfuly install CWM onto our devices. I have tried a few different CWM files that were created. I tried both the touch and non-touch versions of CWM for both the LTE (GT-i9205) and non-LTE(GT-i9200) versions of the Mega all with no success. Some of the CWM files cause you to have no recovery at all and you have to flash back the stock recovery. Then, some of the CWM files appears to have been installed successfully but, when you actually boot into recovery mode, the stock recovery is still there and not the CWM that you just "installed" (which is strange but this has happened to me more often than not).
That's probably what's happening here. Pariki probably got through the physical process of opening ODIN, selecting the CWM recovery file, starting the process, and letting it complete. Then, afterwards, probably booted into recovery thinking they are looking at CWM when in fact what they are seeing is the stock recovery because the CWM file didn't actually install onto their device. This would explain why they don't have a backup option. I don't know what the solution is beside the fact that we simply need a working CWM or TWRP. Currently, no one has been able to create one.

Exactly.....Curgervending..
I have the same thoughts on this.
I can backup the normal Contacts and Messages but backing up the whole working ROM is what I want. It is only possible with a working CWM that has the Backup/Restore option. Need to wait till someone works on it.
If someone has a working CWM that has the Backup/Restore option, Please let me know with link. I will flash it.
Thank you.

You know the real pain is taking the phone to the Service Center. I am sure you faced this when there is nothing you can do and when there is no help from others after screwing it..
I was very descriptive with the way I restored my phone to make it working and without having to take it to the service center.
I am sure you don't know but this will help others on how to recover the phone, what to flash and what not to..If it is for their phone or not. They get ideas on recovering the phone..Hoped I helped others with my Post...

HTC Desire 626s - Stock Firmware/Rom?

Hey guys! Unfortunately I bricked my new HTC Desire 626s while fiddling around with xposed for lollipop after successfully rooting the phone and installing cyanogen recovery. I think if I flash the stock rom on the phone through either adb or cyanogen recovery I can unbrick it, but I have been unsuccessful in finding this file on the internet. Would anyone care to give me a link or upload the stock firmware/rom of this phone? It would really help me out, thank you!
You have to make sure the firmware is the same version or newer than the one currently on the phone as well as which carrier or region the phone is from. Without that, can't provide the correct file to download.

ANYTHING ELSE?? IF YOU CAN GIVE ME THAT DOWNLOAD LINK, MY MOM WONT KILL ME:crying::crying::crying: (she's really pissed :laugh Thank you btw!
Was just thinking about this...if you soft bricked after attempting to install Xposed, and nothing else, you should be able to get out of it by flashing the xposed uninstaller zip. If that does not work, stay tuned to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-626/help/htc-desire-626s-root-recovery-t3169169 as there are some others at the end of the thread in a similar predicament. It does not appear that there is an official RUU yet for the Metro version, only the T-Mobile version, and they are not compatible. Just try the uninstaller zip first because that would be the easiest thing to try and should only take a couple of minutes.

I tried this before my phone got ****ed and it worked:good:! If you can help me dude that'd be great. After uninstalling or changing some stuff in priv-app on my HTC Desire 626s, when I rebooted, it would just stay in a boot loop with the optimizing app message. Any ideas?
What did you uninstall? I would ask for those apps in that thread and use a flashable zip and install via TWRP. You might also try clearing caches and/or resetting the phone again. It DOES take a long time to optimize the apps after wiping stuff as well, so sometimes it is a matter of being patient.
This is why I ALWAYS recommend to freeze apps vs uninstalling. Uninstalling them does not get you any usable space back, so there is no benefit, but it can cause issues if you do need the apps, as you can see...

I believe I uninstalled the dialer and its service in an attempt to replace them with the stock lollipop ones. How do you install TWRP on this phone? My mom has the same phone and its also rooted but hers actually works so I was thinking since TWRP has a nandroid backup setting, I could simply do a nandroid backup on hers and flash it on to mine to see if it will boot up. What do you think? And for the optimizing apps thing, it would finish optimizing, say starting apps, reboot and then optimize again and repeat. Thanks for the help btw, I really hope we can fix this.
You have to unlock the bootloader @ htcdev.com and use fastboot to install TWRP. And yes, that would work, as long as they are on the same software update. Know that when you unlock the bootloader, it will automatically wipe the phone, so make sure she has everything backed up to Google, the PC, etc.

I'm afraid I'm a bit confused... How did you install Xposed and the Uninstaller without a custom recovery? Upon further searching, there doesn't appear to be a version of TWRP for your phone that I could find. Just figured you already had one. You must be on Kit Kat and not Lollipop?

I installed Cyanogen recovery before flashing Xposed and the uninstaller. I thought you had the TWRP recovery img for my phone which is why I asked. I believe some developers are working on a Clockworkmod recovery for this phone which is basically the same thing as TWRP recovery, right? Anyways I guess I just have to wait until that comes out, but I was wondering if anyone who somehow got a hold of the stock rom could upload it for us to use. It would be really helpful
ClockWorkMod is the recovery that Cyanogen uses. That is able to perform nandroid backups as well.
You have to unlock the bootloader, then if you messed up your stock rom and you've updated it to something newer than what Samsung gives for a stock recoverable rom, you must first use the tmobile vers, let it fail, and then use metropcs vers.
If you messed up recovery or anything it will all go back to stock after flash.
Next just copy superuser zip file to phone, go to download mode and adb flash cyanogen recovery img. Then reboot to recovery, choose to flash update, and find the superuser. zip and flash it, voila.

Kitkat, anyone?
Does anybody have a stock KitKat ROM for this device? I'd like to try to bypass the FRP, but am stuck on what must be either a marshmallow or lollipop ROM.
What carrier do you have?
I can send you a backup of the FRP.img for Marshmallow or for lollipop.
You can dd if= flash it to your device and you should be all good.
I am looking for any older roms for these devices too.
Seems like not too many people save the RUU and then HTC only releases the newest.
I got lollipop and marshmallow that's it.
But like i said we can fix the frp partition.
Issue is fixed

Rooting N910CQ AND keeping Android 5.1.1 stock rom - is it possible?

Hi y’all,
Firstly, I’m a newbie. I did some forum reading / reviewing before posting this and I hope I’m posting to correct section (take it easy on newbie ). So anyways, my question is as follows:
I have a N910CQ purchased from Turkey (currently running android 5.1.1). I want to root it but keep stock ROM for two reasons: 1) I am used to touchwiz based stock ROM and I am generally satisfied with it except the bloat ware, and 2) I want to run Cerberus on it... and actually 3) all roms I came by have certain features missing (i.e. camera / pen / fingerprint sensor does not work etc).
But after doing much research (and trial and error for the last 2 days), it seems it is not possible to root a N910CQ device running 5.1.1 android and keep stock rom on it. You can either: 1) root it and flash a 5.0.1 stock rom (and when you later try to upgrade to 5.1.1 you’ll get an error message basically telling you that unauthorized modification was made to OS and therefore you’re no longer entitled to OTA upgrade) OR 2) you’ll have to flash a 5.1.1 rom other than stock rom (such as Team Eos Rom – which has many flaws). But, so far, it seems impossible to root N910CQ and flash 5.1.1 rom.
Do any of you have any recommendations? Thank you.
anybody? any clue???
It looks like your best option would be to install TWRP recovery and use it to flash a custom kernel that auto roots your device such as this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/n910c-kernel-5-1-1-stock-tw-permissive-t3206548 The important thing to note is your Build Number as there are many different builds of 5.1.1. You want to make sure the kernel supports the specific build you have installed otherwise you'll soft brick and need to recover either with a nandroid backup or via Odin and the full firmware/OS tar file. Use TWRP to make the nandroid backup before installing any mod so you can easily restore if you run into issues.

I did this (except I flashed using Odin) and it totally worked. Thank you!

Just for the record though: this kernel triggered "Security Notice Unauthorized Actions Error" and so I had to change it. I'm using SpaceX now, no errors, works smoothly: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347823851
Cool. I prefer TWRP so I can make backups in case something goes wrong, but whatever works.

Stock Firmware Backup - Nonroot

Hello,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a way to completely backup my stock device without root.
This would include firmware and stock recoveries, basically system files - as I'm not really too terribly worried with saving personal data.
I've searched through various threads but I think I'm in one of those "in-over-my-head" situations, so let me explain why I haven't just flashed a custom recovery and made a nandroid backup.
My device is the C-Spire Note 5, SM-N920R7, running 5.1.1 - recognized by Smart Switch with no updates available.
I received this device in the mail today - because I somehow managed to brick my old device with the "custom binary blocked" FRP.
There is no stock firmware available for download to flash in Odin, and it was impossible to boot the device in regular or recovery mode, leaving me with Download mode.
In order to root my old device, I had to unlock the OEM in Developer Settings and flash the "Beastmode" kernel via Odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...rnel-beastmode-modified-stock-1-0-sm-t3196174
Then, I flashed a TWRP recovery and used it to install SuperSU - and voila! I had rooted my device.
Fast forward a few months... My battery died one day and it somehow triggered the FRP lock - with only Download mode available and no C-Spire stock firmware to flash.
Naturally, I want to root my device again, but first I want to create a complete backup of my device that would be flashable in Odin even with the FRP lock on.
So ladies and gentlemen, any help or advice would be appreciated.
I would of course, upload my firmware publicly so that anyone else using this device doesn't brick their phone like I did.
Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm in the same boat and want to do the same thing.

The only way I've seen involves capturing temporary files during an update through Kies or Smart Switch.
Being on C-Spire, that probably will not ever happen.
Maybe C-Spire will get it together and push out 6.0.1 OTA like the rest of the world - as well as actually providing an alternate (non-OTA) download method.
Apparently some guy on the C-Spire Dev forums paid for a ROM on a Chinese site that works with our phones - which would serve as a nice backup if he would ever upload it.
I asked him to - and apparently he contacted the admins asking for a way to upload the file to the forums.
After they responded to him, he must have never uploaded the file.

Is it possible to transfer a TWRP Backup to a another smartphoe?

Hi,
The TeamWin site send me to xdadevelopers to ask questions about TWRP. So if I´m wrong at this place please help at least with informations where to ask.
I have a rooted Galaxy S5 (Stock rom, Android 4.4.2) with xposed and TWRP 2.8.7.9 running.
Now the phone has some hardware problems and if it crashes I think about buying a new S5 as it has all my important features.
For some reasons it is important for me to have the new phone also working with Android 4.4.2 but all the new phones come with 5.x or newer.
Now I think i could be a possibility to root the new one, install TWRP and restore a full backup of my old S5 with the 4.4.2.
As I have no idea how complete the TWRP backup is nor if there are some parts in the new phone that can´t be overwritten by the backup I am looking for experts that can help with informations if that way is absolutly rubbish or if it can work.
Do I have to look for hardware differences between old and new phone (Processor for ex.)?
Any other idea?
Thanks a lot for helping in any way

No it doesn't work like that. The bootloader was updated. Also there a files that a nandroid backs up that are device dependent and will mess up any other device.
The best you will want to do is only back up user apps and data. Nothing else.
Thanks a lot for the fast reply even with this message:crying:
