[Q] Triangle away doesnt work - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to unroot my device, and needed to set my count to 0 with this program.
The problem is when i run it, and it reboots, i press volume up and stuff, but it doesnt change my flash count.
I have a rooted galaxy S III i9300 on stock 4.1.1, and my kernel is 3.0.31-3684283 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 19 18:17:48 KST 2012
I read that i should flash syah kernel for triangle away to work, is this the way to go?

TA does work so i suggest flash stock rom via Odin .
Run TA then factory reset .
jje

Is your flash counter showing '1' after reset or different number? If '1' that's mean it worked just sometimes if you have flashed custom recovery counter won't go to '0'. If that's the problem, try to restore stock recovery and them use Triangle Away.
By the way, did you try to change ROM to older one? Any difference?

My current rom is stock, so will that make any difference? If so, I already downloaded the stock 4.1.1 rom, should i flash that one?
Thanks for your help!

My flash counter shows 1 after reset, yes. So you say I should restore stock recovery first?
I didnt change anything about the rom, i just rooted my phone.
Thanks for your help!

All depend what did you use to root it, sometimes it comes with custom recovery. In my case even with stock rom and kernel I had counter '1' after reset because I had custom recovery. Flashed back the stock recovery and triangle away works like a charm - counter 0.
After all, just to make sure, I've used Kies to reflash it with the latest software to remove root and other rubbish of my phone

I have cwm recovery, how can i flash back stock recovery??

Use SGS3 Toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488). Make sure that your kies is switched off and follow the instructions (Your Model will be under number 7. and then you need to go to number 6 (ReFlash stock recovery via Odin).
Good luck!

in addition to having an updated version of Triangle Away, you must have a kernel that supports

I figured it out! Thanks for all your help!

In order for Triangle away to work your phone has to be stocked and rooted
Triangle away is meant to reset your binary flash counter and not unroot your device .

nnnnn

Does triangle away need root access???

Yes it requires root access.
Unfortunately noobs are posting wrong facts .

Soo? Im confused here in order to use triangle away i must be unrooted or rooted? And running stock rom?

TriangleAway works but with only official recovery and official kernel.
If you're running a custom ROM, a custom kernel, a custom recovery, CWM, TWRP, etc, this will cause the counter to auto-reset to 1.

(I am Sorry if there has been a thread like this before ,i am new to Android just need to ask some questions for my Galaxy S2 which i recently bought)
Phone Details
Samsung Galaxy S2(Hong Kong)
Android 2.3.5
Baseband I9100XXKI3
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKI3
Build GINGERBREAD.ZSKI3
Question 1
My phone is in Warranty i have been iOS user and like Jailbreak i want to enjoy Andriod by rooting my phone
But i want to backup the stock firmware completly before all this process so if i wanted to reverse process ,or get my phone back to its old state like it came(ZSKI3 SAME KERNEL AND EVERY THING REST)
please suggest me any backup tool like that
Question 2
i want to root my phone in stock firmware,i like touchwiz and every thing that came stock but having root access so i can get any thing i want so please suggest me the best firmware for S2
I will be really thankfull for you responce, and please if i made some mistakes above i am sorry again i am new here
1-root with cf-root for you firmware using Odin.
2-boot into recovery and do a cwm backup or use the cwm app that installs with cf root to do the same.
3-if you want to go back to stock flash the original kernal using Odin and use a download mode jig to reset counter to hide flashing.
4-if you use a custom rom restore backup then do the above step.
You can find plenty of how-to's on any if the above points on this forum or by Googling it.

Ok. To flash the original kernal you will need to get it from the intratech thread. He had them all I think. This will remove the custom kernal and, assuming you are still on stock firmware everything is stock again.
As for the jig, when you flash a non stock kernal, there is a counter which shows when you go into download mode. Samsung put this in to see if you had flashed anything if you return it for warranty. The jig plugs into the phones USB/charging port and clears it so Samsung knows ****. I bought one off eBay for $2 delivered.

[Q] Confused with S2 process / keeping warranty

Hi,
First post in this forum but have been on XDA for a while now (galaxy ace/note). Did look for this before posting. My wife has an S2 and it recently updated (via kies) to ICS. Its the UK (H3G) carrier version. Im not new to rooting/roms/flashing etc as have flashed my old galaxy ACE countless times CM7/9 etc.
I understand the S2 has a custom flash counter which could screw up warranty.
She hates this (H3G) ICS as it has quite a load of bugs. (Freezes lots etc) and I was wondering the following:-
1 - Do you need to root the s2 to flash via ODIN?
2 - Will flashing a stock ROM from sammobile increase the flash counter?
3 - If so will triangle away work to get rid?
She is not keen on the warranty being void but will happily go back to GB if I can do it for her.

You can root using odin, flashing anything will increase your counter and Triangle away does work but it can hard brick you phone at the same time.

Cheers for the quick reply. The first question was do you need root for odin? is Triangle away that risky?
A. No.
B. No.
C. No need if not rooted as flashing official firmware package will not increase the counter. An insecure kernel will.
Just follow Intratech's official firmware thread. Has all the instructions you need.

Flashing the stock Rom = No Triangle
I flashed the leaked version of ICS using ODIN and didn't get the flash count triangle, It wasn't until I flashed the edited stock kernel that allows root (without effecting the rest of the phone) That I did.
But using Triangle away got rid of it and I feel the major warning message may be a little overkill as it only took a second and it doesn't even reboot the phone.

This is because you flashed a wrong kernel for your phone.
# Quick question:
Is your phone on Gingerbread, Android 2.3.x or ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), Android 4.0.x?

Thanks for that.
I have the I9100BVLPH stock ROM from T-Mobile UK on my phone so I downloaded the correct Chain Fire kernel (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPH-v5.2-CWM5.tar) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and this caused the phone not to boot.
Thanks for the link to Siyah, I used the v4.1.5 kernel and it worked great.
Hello there.
I'm in a bit of a trouble so I need some help. I've bought an S2 for my wife from a guy (in Ireland).
The phone was locked on Vodafone so I tried to root it maybe I'll be lucky to unlock it with out paying nothing. So, the phone is on Gingerbread with a BUKJ3 kernel. I've downloaded last night a CF root but by mistake I took a KG3 instead of KJ3. After flashing with Odin 1.85 I got stuck on the boot screen with the yellow triangle.
This morning I've downloaded another kernel as in KJ3 flashed with Odin, the phone is starting but no network coverage, I tried with different Sim cards but nothing so I went in recovery mode and wipe/format data, system, dalvik and cache as factory reset as well. Since that moment the phone won't boot, it gets stuck on the boot screen and yellow triangle.
I can go in recovery mode and download mode with no problem but I can't make it start.
I reflashed the kernel, I don't know what to do and tomorrow is my wife's birthday and I was trying to surprise her with a nice phone but instead looks like she is gonna get a brick ( I hope not)
Thank you guys for any help.

Thank you for the reply. I don't mean any disrespect but for the last 3 hours I'm looking over kernels and forum and my brain is really wired now maybe.
I've had a look at sammobile but I can't find what you've recommended. A more specific link will be more than helpful.
Thank you very much anyway. If I'm getting advises it means I didn't bricked the phone so I might be able to fix it.
Once again thank you.
You just go to sammobile, then register, then firmware and files, then put the info in the 4 fields
eg
Smartphone
Android
Gt-i9100
Then uk/ire XEU (or vodafone or whatever..but unbranded better)
Then youll see a list about firmware version and their release date
Eg
Lpt 4.0.4 ics jul 2012
Lp7 4.0.3 ics apr 2012
So download lp7 4.0.3 and flash with odin.
Then use the rooting guide in my sig
Then do the other things I said.

People contact Odia when theres a problem with their efs folder/no backup.
But you should have a backup and a nand backup.
I had the same problem yesterday and I restored efs folder/restored nand backup.....which got it back.
So try that or theres a thread about "restore imei in 9 easy steps".

I know I was stupid enough not to read before flashing, but now it too late to think about that.
the thing is I've never used a galaxy phone until these days and I wasn't aware of all this things and I don't know how to restore this NAND backup IF I have one, as I didn't make any backup before flushing. I hope I'll get some help from somebody and as I've said, a nice donation will be on the way to the helper.
Try GSII repair app.But you have to be rooted.

[Q] Question About Triangle away to rest counter

Hi,
I have some questions about Triangle Away.
My Specifics are:
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100
Android Version: 4.0.4
Band Base Version: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel Version: [email protected]#3 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 29 13:40:41 KST 2012
Build Version: IMM76D.XWLPX
eMMC check: Brick Bug insane chip
Triangle Away Version: 2.10
I flashed my phone with this nordic ROM: I9100XWLPX_I9100XXLQ6_I9100NEELP5_HOME.tar
Then I followed this guide to root my phone: http://technoxide.blogspot.com/2012/10/root-galaxy-s2-ics-4.0.4-xwlpx.html
With this guide i installed this firmware: PhilZ-cwm6-XWLPX-NEE-2.0.tar.md5 and then i used Samsung Quick Root.
Yesterday i read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31310851
and I flashed my kernel with this new one: PhilZ-cwm6-XWLPX-NEE-2.7.tar.md5
My root work fine.
Now I read many threads but I don't understand if I can run Triangle Away 2.10 without problems or brick risks.
Anyone could help me?
Thank you

[Q] Recovered from a Soft brick. Resetting back to stock.. DOUBTS! :)

Hey Guys!
I just bought the mighty S2 and am loving it.
Baseband version: I9100DDLPA
Build Number: IML74K.XWLP7
I tried rooting my phone with ODIN and CF_ROOT method. This is the file version i used.
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
Now after rooting, my phone booted automatically. When i tried restarting, it was getting stuck on the yellow triangle.
I then downloaded the other kernel and tried flashing that too with ODIN.
CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
But alas..
Then i downloaded the official ROM for my country and flashed it with ODIN. Fixed my phone. Below is the firmware i used.
GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWLP7_I9100ODDLP9_I9100DDLPA
This runs on ICS 4.0.3. I see that there's one more ROM of my country thats 4.0.4 on samsung-updates.
So my questions are as below
1) Which CF_ROOT version do i use to get my stock firmware rooted?
2) Is 4.0.4 any better than 4.0.3? Where do i find the changelog?
3) Can I flash a firmware of ANY country? Does it matter if I flash the firmware of my neighboring country?
4) Where do i find the stock kernel for my Firmware?
5) Does flashing the official firmware flash the stock kernel along with it? Meaning will it remove the Siyah-s2-v4.1.5 i am currently running :cyclops: ?
6) If 5 is yes, and if i need to by chance send my phone to the service center for warranty, and also if I am running a custom rom, will flashing the original firmware of my country + removing the yellow triangle + resetting the counter bring it back to warranty? ;P
7) Is there a way to try a ROM from the SD card without actually flashing it?
I seriously gotta parcel a crate of beer for the one who answers my questions.. One all set, I am in for trying out a custom ROM!

1 I don't know I use siyah kernel to root although there are full instructions in chainfires thread.
2 4.0.4 is better than 4.0.3 as it's an upgrade , use Google for change log.
3 yes you can flash any countries rom for your device.
4 in Stock rom. Just reflash the ROM to stock kernel, but this will loose root access.
5 yes. Correct.
6. It will remove triangle but you need triangle away app to reset counter. Credits to chainfire
7 no not that I know of.
Sir can I suggest you read the sticky threads in this forum. There are many excellent guides, advice, tips and information. You would do well to read them to save bricking your new device.

Hi Handsy. I am doing that. Thats were i learnt how to root n stuff but it failed. Hence used Siyah kernel and automagically got Root access
Anyway regarding point number 4, i didnt understand what you meant. DO I reflash the entire 350MB firmware just to get the stock kernel??

Yes to get stock kernel re-flash the whole stock rom. There is a method of extracting the kernel from the zip file but I've never tried it. Easy and safe to re flash whole rom package.

Thanks for the great help! +1 for ya
I noticed that flashing the firmware didnt make a single change to my phone. The apps and settings were totally intact. Will installing 4.0.4 too be the same? Also i heard about this brick bug on our phone. Does that happen while only wiping data/cahche using CWM? Is there an anther way of wiping data/cache/dalvik etc? other than factory reset for the bug

When moving between like firmwares (same number) you often do this without wiping data however when upgrading or down grading a full wipe is necessary. To avoid brick bug only wipe with a custom kernel eg siyah etc

Dont forget to backup your efs folder and make a nand backup before you get going.
