[Q] LG Optimus L9: How to install apps to sd card - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

By default, internal memory call is "sdcard" and sdcard will call "ex-sdcard" , so, apps will install on "sdcard". it make internal memory get low when i install some apps with big data.
Now, my sdcard is free to 3,5Gb but i can't install any app because "sdcard" is full :crying:
anyone can help me solve this ?

You need rooted phone for this

The phone has the internal memory mounted on /sdcard, and the external sd card mounted on /sdcard/external_sd.
Many apps save their data on /sdcard, so in the internal memory.
I used this script to mount the data from my external sd to the right location (you need root and busybox):
Code:
busybox mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/Android/data /sdcard/Android/data
Code:
busybox mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/Android/obb /sdcard/Android/obb
This will move the data to the external sd. To move the app (apk file) you should use something like this:
Code:
busybox mount -o bind /sdcard/external_sd/data/app /data/app
I'm using ScriptManager to run the scripts at boot.

Why on earth would LG release the phone like this? It makes sd cards useless. Apps don't use the sd card at all and install extra data to the tiny internal storage itself which is only 2Gb. I can't even download offline maps because I don't have enough space. Has LG acknowledged the problem? I'm going to return this phone because of this

LG added Apps To SD
Hi Friends,
I had decided to root my LG L9 once my warranty period gets over to get App to SD functionality added.
But now LG has incorporated this functionality in its May, 13 's Software update.
So now no need to root any more.
Just go and update your OS using "Software Update" and use App to SD functionality in "App Settings"
Don't forget to click on Thanks button.
Enjoy :good:

My phone still does not have that function, what version of android are you on?

Need to write a letter to the LG representative office and ask maybe sometime in the official update will be created so that we can install the game to the SD card. Perhaps made this group???

I looked for a software update. I'm up-to-date. Can't move anything and can't find App to SD functionality in "App Settings". I would love to do this. I went from a phone with more space to this one and it's driving me batty that I have to uninstall 3 apps I'd kind of like to keep to update one I really want to keep. I got my LG Optimus L9 in July 2013 and it almost immediately had a software update. I would appreciate any help if this is at all possible without rooting.

My phone is updated. A bit more detail in the instructions would be very helpful. I'm tired of running apps serially (one after the other) because I have to uninstall one to install another. Either that, or instructions on how to increase the internal memory on the L9 would be very helpful.

Installing to sd card I have no solution for, but moving apps to sdcard (which is as good a solution as any) is simple to do with stock software. Go to your standard file explorer. It takes you default to external sd (being your external sd card) and sdcard0 (being your phone's internal memory).
You then tap on sdcard0; it shows you all the folders present there. At the bottom you see an Icon depicting a sdcard with an Arrow to it. As you want to move apps to your sd card you tap on it and it shows all your folders with a White empty Square. You then tap all the apps you want to move to your card and tap on "move" at the bottom. That takes you back to the startscreen with external card and sdcard0. You then tap on your external card and "paste". Job done!
Good luck!!

I would like to leave warning to avoid moving/linking..
Play Store, Google Play Services, System Apps and any file manager you have.
Why you may ask?
Google Play Reason:
Cuz "heaven forbid" something happens to your SD card, you would lose access to Google Play and won't be able to download apps.
System App reason:
Well if you lose an system app you won't be able to Factory Reset.
File Manager Reason:
Well if you lose your file manager you of course won't be able to browse files.
And won't be able to download another if you lost Google Play.
Just a heads up for anybody wanting to install Link2sd

Great suggestions! I got all of those linked on my card but I make damn sure I have everything backed up twice! I don't do a lot of really fancy stuff so it seems to be working just fine but for the people who are flashing ROMs take heed. I've overclocked, undervolted, rooted, linked2sd, deleted bloatware, and custom recovery and it's fine for me. Thanks so much for the suggestions and I hope people will read all the way through!

I also like this application GL to SD (root) it's original design was to move all data from Gameloft games but it works for all games as I have to Sega based games on my phone that won't move the data with Link2SD (Taxi Driver & Jet Set Radio) which is almost a gig of data between the two.

I think the biggest you can do is 2gigs, any higher you "might" run into slower running apps/system.
Maybe you can push it to 2.5gigs

I get this when I try to move a game (Deadtrigger) to Sdcard:
"App2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card."
How do I move the actual game to my SD card. Right now it says the game is linked but I can't move the game to the SD card. I'm running cm10.1 on my p769. Thanks!

I'm confused about this last image (can't link to it because I'm new here) - I've been unsuccessfully trying to partition a 32GB card for days now, literally scouring this forum and others, and I've tried so many things on it - wiping, partitioning, deleting and creating new partitions, formatting - I really think the card itself is probably ruined, and that might be my main problem. So I bought a new 16GB SD card, SanDisk, I think class 4 (clerk told me that as I was paying, don't see anything on the package indicating what class it is), and I don't want to mess this up. I paid a guy to root my phone, and using Root Browser I see a list of folders and files, one of which is mnt, then subfolder sdcard, then subfolder external_SD pathway. If that what I should be seeing to begin with?
I do understand that the SDcard folder is not my SD card - it's actually part of the internal memory.
My confusion about your image is that when I look at Link2SD storage info I see "internal 73% free", "SD Card 73% free", "ext. SD 99% free", and "SD Card 2nd part. not mounted" - below that I see system 28% free and cache 97% free. Your image shows only 3 things. I notice that my "internal" and "SD card" show exactly the same numbers.
If you folks think what I'm seeing is normal, aside from the "not mounted," (I get that, it isn't mounting and I want to try a new card), I plan to start at the top of your instructions, use MiniTool Partition (which I've been using all along), partition my new card FAT32 12GB and second partition ext 3 (because I'm running android 4.1.2 and in these instructions it says to use ext3) 4GB. I have one large app (ibird pro) that I hope to link to the SD, which is why I chose 4GB for the second partition.
Can anyone see anything wrong here so far? I guess I'm looking for someone with my phone like TheCoutures who has done this process and has it working for confirmation that I'm not off base before I even start with this file structure and/or my plans for the partitioning sizes etc.
Thanks - and btw I thought the noob video was really funny and very well done, thoroughly enjoyed watching it
In case it doesn't show up my phone is an LG Optimus L9, T-mobile, android 4.1.2.
This is on my linked2sd. You are just fine with respect to the memory sections. Read from the beginning and you should be just fine. My card is 16mb and I partitioned it right down three middle. Try to mount or partition using cwm if you are more comfortable with that.

So "Google Chrome" and "Amazon" for example are marked as system apps but they are non-critical to system operation (I am assuming). Are you saying that if I uninstall these apps I won't be able to do a factory restore?
If I have a 32GB SD card, is there a download side to set the EXT3 partition to 16GB other than I have less space to store media files?

How do you install a large app/game on the SD card?

I have the LG L70 running KitKat and this is the closest forum to ask this. So I get 1,5GB free storage space, and while I can move an app to the SD card after install, incl. the main app of Real Racing 3, but when I run it and it tries to download the 1722MB data package, it obviously says not enough space on the device internal storage. Which is true, but I have the darn SD card inside, how do I get the phone to download the data there?

I don't see such an option. This could be a KitKat restriction, as I can't move say Type:rider to the SD, although I can move Speedtest for example. A silly thing (from Google) if there is no way, I have all the storage on my SD, but can't use it for large apps?

You need root access. First root ur device and install the "foldermount" app. Its an app that binds your obb or android data folder to your external sd. That's the only reason I'm rooted. The application won't ever brick your device. It free on playstore (u can purchase the premium version to support the developer and get extra features)

I have D605 L9 II with stock KitKat. I rooted it and tried to use foldermount app. It moved the obb file from internal memory to SD well, but once i click on the pin, it won't turn to green. I don't know what is the problem... Please help me if you can. THX

Xt1528 - possible to install Google Play apps to sdcard?

Is it possible to install apps to your sd card?
At this point I'm unable to download larger apps (2gb+) due to the smallish internal memory of the phone. An example App is Icewind Dale, I'm able to get the apk and install it, but it will not download obb data to the sd card at all.
Thank you for any help!

Try link2sd. I can change the default install location but mine's rooted. Move as many of your other apps to SD as you can.

Root required
I don't think this is possible without a rooted phone. Oh well!

What I've observed is that some apps can be moved to SD and some can't. Being rooted and having link2sd helps, and link2sd will let you set the default install path to SD (with root). But some things like Chrome can't be moved. I think it has to do with hard-coded paths in some apps and not others. And then there's the Android 5+ nonsense about not using SD to promote the cloud. Might be worth looking into Ubuntu instead of Android. Sadly, Google is a company making decisions they think will maximize profit. Ubuntu doesn't have a vested interest.
2 gigs for one app, no way would I want such a thing unless I had a terabyte of internal memory. That's bloatware.

HELP! Linking internal RAM to external (microSD) RAM

I've recently acquired a D618. The previous owner already updated to Lollipop 5.0.2. I'm just wondering how I'll be able to install apps to the microSD card, because it fills up the internal RAM that quickly. Any help will be appreciated.
First of all, it's not called RAM.
You can move apps to the SD after they are installed.
Go to Settings > Apps , find the app you want to move, press it and then press "Move to SD".
Not all apps are movable.
Also, do you have root?

Thank you for your reply! The recently-acquired phone is not rooted yet. I have about 1.++ GB left in the phone memory. Do I need to root the phone?

Not for moving apps from Settings, but rooting gives you more options and the ability to move all apps.

If you gain root access you can try to partition a sd-card and use link2sd to really move apps to external storage. Do some research about link2sd. If you're stuck, let me know.
