I love the aosp look to this phone but the texting app is UGLY. Any themed versions out there that I can't seem to find? Searched everywhere, that and the dialer are the only ugly ui elements to me, which is saying a lot for a (admittedly minimalistic) skinned UI

Btw any help would be greatly appreciated.. I only know python, a bit of tcsh, matlab, and I obviously know Linux, adb, etc. Pretty sure some java skills are needed which I know not a thing about. I can't be the only one who finds the text app ugly as sin!

Hi, i came to know about an app called siri in iPhone 4S. its a virtual assistant.
I used vlingo in android. but its not even comparable to Siri.
Anybody knows any good siri alternatives for android ? I googled and found out some.(reviewsnext.com/2012/02/02/siri-alternatives-for-android) But.. anything better than these ? pls share your personal views.

From what i've read, it's a work in progress. People seem to be happy with recent updates and improvements so it's a hurry up and wait deal for now.

I've been using Iris for few months already and not long ago there was an update to it which makes it pretty much smoother and faster. I'd say go and try it, no regrets
Iris work pretty well, you should definitely give it a shot.
I am currently using an HTC HD2 running WinMo 6.5. There is nothing wrong with it except that woefully lacking in apps.
Considering changing phones to another platform. Since I have issues with Apple proprietary marketing, this leaves me with Android and Win7. What I want is to be able to build a homescreen such as below, with an Agenda, frequently used programs and apps, most important contacts, msg notifications, etc...
Is this even possible on a droid?

UCCW is one of my favourite widgets, the creator is pretty ugly but you can make awesome widgets.
MiFile explorer is really nice too.

Hope admins will not delete that post. I really don't want to make marketing for Hegre APP, but it is by far the hottest wallpaper app and I stumbled over it by chance for there is no marketing for it. Ok I am sure all netflix users have found out that we have been had. There app will automatically update and no matter what I do I can't stop it. The new app is not very responsive and fails to load all the thumbnails. It's not as bad on the 3vo as it is on the og but still sucks. Plus I liked the old look better. So what I am wondering is if anyone knows how to stop it from upgrading?

Unfortunately there is no way to stop the update. I have a backup of netflix in titanium backup from about 4 months ago and as soon as I restore the app and data it loads the new interface. I thought netflix was slow before, I didnt think they could make it any worse. They might be trying to push people to upgrade their devices. The app works on the 3vo, but my wife has an evo 4g and it barely works now.

The Netflix app's user interface is really just a web page. There is NO way whatsoever to get the old user interface back, because it is served directly from Netflix, as opposed to being a native Android user interface.
I agree that it blows. Why can't Netflix make a UI that lets us actually be able to browse ALL of the available titles? For instance, if I check the science fiction movies on the app, I apparently have a choice of about 20 movies or so to watch. Yet, you can search and find all kinds of additional titles. Why can't I just browse the damn library of titles?!?!
After a little bit digging.. Seems to be a server side updated rather than a full app update...

I very much agree. Netflix is quite un-user friendly. Half the time you have to know what you want to watch and search for it, and even then it's very hit and miss. I especially don't follow why Netflix has say... movies 2 and 3 in a series, but not the first one. DEFINITELY needs a massive UI update to allow entirely library browsing. not just whatever 75 titles they feel like showing at the current time.
I got fed up with Netflix, left August 1st.
Once Amazon gets a little better selection I'll head over there.

I think there was some work done a while ago to port the Linux Silverlight alternative called Moonlight to Android. I don't think it got very far.
Moonlight is missing some things like DRM which Microsoft won't share (no surprise there) so things like Netflix won't work.

That I couldn't tell you. I would imagine you could just write it in Java or C# and make it Android native though
