Desire X Hardware can support 720p[Explained] & Q.Why games lag[Answered] - HTC Desire X

The desire X has a snapdragon s4 play processor overclockable(hope its a word) to 1.2 ghz safely(take the risk oc more still need custom kernel).
Its has a Adreno 203(its a model number not version number:cyclops gpu clocked @ 200mhz capable of 720p video recording @ 30fps and 720p h/w playback.
Currently not porvided by htc due to a posible drop in sales of One V if done so (Similarly priced i guess). So with a custom rom say Cyanogenmod you can have 720p and no need for custom players !!!
and Adreno 205 & 203 are basically the same.
And the Cortex A5 is not really such a bad thing cause of the dual core (A9 allows for multiple tasks from a single core.while A5 makes the core finish the task @ hand before moving to the next task). So a fair bit of deving and you got a very awesome phone.:good:
Q. Why Games Lag on this phone then ?
Answer : The reason games lag is not the gpu or the processors fault especially fc's So quit blaming the phone or the processor or the fact that you aint able to buy those humumgously large phones that look like you are holding your dinnerplate to your ear while on a call. The gpu is for rendering.
If you observe the benchmark scores you will be completely thunderstruck and most likey abuse the developer and also uninstall the app for wrong data the fact is the data is not wrong the gpu is really that powerful(Ok not tegra or mali-400 powerful but you get me right.).The Culprit here is the ram the gpu has no ram as on the computer(Tegra does) so it cant store the game elements on a seperate location it takes a portion of the phone ram for this purpose.
:crying:But But But...I got Free ram so- and - so task manager showed it ...
Now you may say that the task manager is showing me 200 -300-512 hell i got 786 free the fact is the ram shown is the ram remaining after all background operations the phone doesnt take into account the cached apps.
cached apps ???
Android takes all apps it feels you may use frequently and stores them in them in the ram so as to load them quickly this is called cached processes(feel like checking them out see runing apps and there check the cached processes).Bigger the ram more the apps cached.
But then with so may apps how can i multitask at all
Well android has an inbuilt task manager this thing removes the most least used apps from the cached processes and thus help release memory this is done according to certain minimum free values stored in Build.prop(Gingerbread and below) or service.jar(ICS and above).
So what do i do now
The answer is a lot well if you are rooted else not so good.
On Stock rom
If NOT Rooted
Well limit your number of background apps dont do much multitasking and stay away from memory heavy apps.:fingers-crossed:
If Rooted
Every heard of v6 Supercharger by Zeplinnox well thats your saviour it helps modify your minfree values(along with various other values) and thus allow for a much better experience.
else
Get a custom rom most are bloat free and much better optimised for the hardware(When i say custom i dont mean skinned stock rom).
Good Luck.:good:

Hi I know this question is not fitting to this thread but since I can see you understand this phone completely I take the shot what about games on this phone? I have problem when I start games it just blinks and I'm back on homescreen... Tried with star warfare and similar games. Dragon slayer lagging and what I heard modern combat lags a lot. Some users told me that problem is the adreno 203. What do you think? I don't play much but only occasionally but I would like to play something better than fruit ninja and angry birds Thnx

Hi Thing is Am no expert this is the information i came across whle doing my research on the phone in question(have decided to buy it!!) from asking people(actually annoying till the answered). And various other resources as mentioned .
As for the games Mordern combat is supposed to work flawlessly(personally seen and there is a youtube video on it) also thhe other games you specified are unknown to me if the games are from the market try asking the devs for help(send a bug report mail them on the email id specified). for it is a fairly new processor and most games running are not really taking the combination into consideration(its basically 205,mali and tegra). And really dont run too many apps (check your background processes & cached apps).
Hope this Helps.

[Q] Angry Birds Hangs after some time

Hi All
I have been playing Angry Birds Rio , Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds on LG Optimus One with miks CM7 rom . I noticed it gets hanged after playing Angry Birds for some time . when i check the cpu utilization it spikes to 70% .
I have to kill the app and restart Angry Birds .
Has anyone noticed this problem .
I take the chance to ask here. Do you also have lag in angry birds? I run cm7+francokernel+zram and i still encounter lag. Way lower than in stock rom but still, is there any way to make it run smooth?
To answer the question, no it never hangs or fc-s for me.

It probably because there are too many services running on the background etc. and have made the internal task killer (not those you download from market) kill the angry birds process as it is really taking a lot of ram spaces because of its huge amount of particles... bricks, birds, velocity, physics calculation, audio...
normally the internal task killer is set to kill the foreground app to maintain system stability when your ram has only got ~5-10 mb left, but its surprising to happen in mik's cm7 as there are a lot of tweaks to make the system occupy much much less ram space.
maybe you should check whether there are too many services running in the background. in worse cases, you may try downloading auto memory manager from market and adjust the lowest 3 bars higher so that the ram will be harder to reach a low amount

as mentioned above, there are a lot of particles to be loaded in angry birds.. its not a game like racing cars, they count every brick's physics separately, whatever that you can touch with the birds, are monitored.
so as to run smooth its just a problem of your hardware, you just need a higher cpu speed.
faq: wtf why it runs so smooth on iphone then?
a: dont forget its single task but on ur android theres a lot of process running in the background while you are playing angry birds
solution: just wait some seconds when you start every level and play when the birds are jumping smoothly
You are right about what you say, but i have seen angry birds running smooth on nokia phones for god's sake with ~522 mhz cpu-s, while we run a better model and ~729 mhz. Not to mention the great rom and kernel that we have.
Hi Miasmic/vador9
Thanks for the replies .
@ vador9
Lag is present if im in stock processor speed 600 .
If OC the cpu to 480 - 730 . lag is reduced to a larger extent .
it doesnt fc for me but hangs .
@Miasmic
I checked not many process or services are running on my phone . 250MB memory is available only the cpu utiliztion spikes to 70% .
I will be check with the auto memory manager installed .

haha,
1) as same as apple, nokia provides single tasking so it can use all the cpu for the game
2) angry birds for android provides high resolution graphics vs low resolution on symbian phones thats why they seems to run smoother

oh then maybe it is not the problem of the ram, did you move the angry birds app to the sd card? (froyo+ a2sd - moving the app excluding dalvik cache to the fat-partition) try turn off ur phone, unmount your card and wipe it cleanly (i mean using a tissue paper not custom recovery lol) sometime this helps to solve some problems
ehm but i see something strange here... if you are playing apps like angry birds the cpu should have be raised to 90-100%... why only 70 on ur phone?
Hi Miasmic
Yes i had moved Angry birds to Sd card .
Thanks

try launching a stress test with setcpu with the highest stable frequency on ur phone, and see whether there are errors. also install something that you can see ur cpu stress on the status bar from market. check if the cpu is running as high as possible.
running angry birds with 70% can only be seen on a duel core phone lol its strange on p500.
if i helped anything i dont mind if you press the thx button xd
good luck!

Monitoring "Disk queue" length - Prime issues

Hi all,
Like many others, I am recognising issues like broswer hanging, "Application has stopped responding, and since starting to listen to music, music stuttering issues while the nand is being accessed.
I am almost certain that all of these issues are linked to a bottleneck caused by the Nand used in these devices (or a driver not optimised for the nand in question)
This is my only dissapointment with the prime now.
Another time I witness this issue is when doing a restore from google after flashing a rom
I have never noticed this kind of lag with any device I have used in the last 2-3 years!
Is this a software issue, or is the nand in this device THAT bad.
I'm normally patient with this kind of issue, but it happens with all roms, regardless of whether they are stock or otherwise.
I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any performance monitoring that can be used to try and identify the root cause of this?
I would certainly hope this bottleneck isnt the Tegra cpu.. its got twice the cores of my HP touchpad!! and a Ninja core lol
any ideas?
Steve
try flashing one of the performance kernels in developement that has memory tweaks or i/o schedulers that can be changed. plus ram tweaks n all that. i don't have the browser hanging issue or music stuttering. when installing apps from play store, it'll always slow things down because prime gives it priority over everything else really. but we have developers like motley and shaky who has some killer kernels that fixes and optimizes things regarding disk speeds and ram and such.

Why's my phone so laggy??

Just installed TUG ROM the other day; initially it was ok. I started loading some of my apps on it; I hate having a ton of apps, so I try to keep it minimal. I can't play any full screen intense game without some horrible lag. I thought this phone would be on par with my old Droid X (1Ghz processor, 512MB RAM); it would play just about any game I wanted to with no worries. Am I missing something? Is there some special tweak or script I'm supposed to run? With the SEMC Kernel (2nd one with wifi fixes) and TUG, the phone is definitely better, but still laggy. I have autokiller set to extreme, and autorun disabling all basic apps that are auto-running at boot. I was just hoping for more performance from this phone

Nope this phone is just too old for good games. Maybe they would work if You had no apps installed. I think playing on this device is anyway crappy because of not fully working multitouch

Minion Rush is very laggy on PAC 4.2.2
Zen Pinball HD finally works without lags with CM10.1 and Smartass governor (CPU 1.2 GHz).
Re-Volt and Temple Run 2 work quite smooth with MSAA 4x enabled and Subway Surfers without.
wow , i never knew that re-volt existed on android ,
i played re-volt on PC some year back , and i was a huge fan of it
downloading it ...
and yes minion rush is laggy on 4.x rom for me

I just set a 56 000 record yesterday, it's really good on my phone, don't know why it would lag on yours
My set-up: 16/06 CM10.1; CPU @1GHz + smartass governor; deadline i/o scheduler.
Other than that, only customisations I've done is that I've disabled some of the google services (Play Store, Play services and backup transport frozen with T.B.Pro)

It works, but its too laggy to play.
Hill climb racing and Bike Race work well on cm10.1
Sent from my MB526 using xda app-developers app
For Minion Rush was very laggy, also now with overclocked cpu (1.3Ghz) it's unplayable -.-
The download on first start, took long, because it couldn't find my inet connection
Header Soccer also works fine, but it isn't a really good game, i think.
"Can you Escape" crashed on start up, have anybody else this problem ?
The simpsons -> Springfield works fine, but sometimes when the game is loading the phone reboots ^^. (one-off my phone was unusable because of that crash :S)
btw: my phone is defy+ with cm10.1
Sorry for my bad english, please correct me if there is a fatal grammar error
Yup, Minion Rush is little laggy at begining but after 1-2 minutes of playing, everything is ok. It happen some small lowered fps at city and with many objects but that's not problem. Mine problem with this game is that after i connected it with FB for the first time, it reseted and, i started all over again. After that, i never made secesstull connection with FB, always there is "unable to connect". Also, game is starting from beggining every day when i open game. So i always starts from 0. I just cant forget mine score od 68.900

Same problem with the game resetting itself here, have no idea what the hell is wrong with it... Are you on CM10/CM10.1 or is it the same on other ROMs, as well?
One more thing - it's no longer laggy, ever! With the latest kernel updates from Blechd0se, it's veeery smooth and FAST! It doesn't even lag on the introductory jump anymore (well, it does on the first one)
(I'm using 18% zRAM, which is not available on Quarx's "stock" kernel in the latest nightly (he disabled ALL kinds of swap, because he thinks that's the culprit of the random data loss bug), but I think that it would be smooth without zRAM, as well)
p.s. I'm not even overclocked ATM

I was using Quarx's build from 16.06. There happen some problems with changing settings. When i change performance CPU governor settings block. After that i can only restart phone and settings are back to interactive.
2 days ago i installed build 09.07 and same problem here. Also there was new problems. Mine sound for SMS was gone. I receive message but there is no any sound, when i play some video phone reboot. So today i swap data and installed again build from 09.07 and settings work, also SMS sounds, i didn't tested video but i see that is already reported problem.
Looks that i am far away from topic better to stop now.
Can you please PM link of ROM?
This Thread is useful for me

Galaxy S3-Hopeless multitasking?

I did use the search function. There was a similar thread posted a day ago but I'd like to do a more in-depth query here. The more extensive one has been dormant since April so I figure that I might as well open a new one.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant, but I want to do a serious investigation of the multitasking woes in the S3.
Just some background of my experiences:
Having flashed the latest official (ending with MF6), I must say that multitasking is just atrocious and my apps close for every 3rd one I open. RAM is always full, and once cleared it is bogged down again. And again. And again. The iPhone 4, with 512 MB RAM, can manage better than this. The RAM heavy ones (Facebook, Chrome, YT, etc.) are the worst of all-as they close down even when you don't touch the phone for a period of time.
What exactly is using up my RAM? Please don't come back to me with the Free RAM=Wasted RAM argument. I have seen no speed improvement of apps "cached in memory" compared to those that I just opened up.
I remembered back in the days of the S2 release people called 1 GB RAM unnecessary, and to an extent this is true, as the S2 was able to do some serious multitasking of 8-9+ apps without having to close any of them. Other flagships (HTC Sensation) did fine with 768 MB RAM. Heck, the Galaxy S1 seemed fine with 512 MB RAM. The OS can run, camera works fine, I can play videos fine. So where exactly did this 512 MB of extra RAM go, when the Galaxy S3 is upped to 1 GB of RAM?
I have tried zRAM 300 MB, 400 MB, 600 MB. They all make the phone remarkably slow. Initially it does prove to be somewhat useful, but over time multitasking becomes completely hopeless again.
Is there ever going to be a solution to this, or do I really have to get a 2 GB RAM phone to actually be able to use it?
Well, mate, this has been discussed over and over as you may be aware. Honestly, i've lost hope for stock firmwares on multitasking. Some people swear by zram or even swap and while it does work i didn't find the results very good. Someone may come up with a more thorough explanation on how all the ram is being actually used (and it has been written already, i've seen it around) but at this point i just don't really care much.
Bottomline, you have 3 options:
- install some aosp rom and never see this problem again (some others may come up due to lack of sources for exynos)
- compromising speed for multitasking purposes with zram, swap and there were some atempts at plain better multitask management with supercharger and others
- ignore and live with it and try to change your phone for anything else asap - samsung botched this and is making no effort i can see for a fix. If they don't care about you it's only fair you don't care about them either.
I'm aiming for a nexus4 when i find one cheap around. Plenty of power, 2Gb, fastest updates in the business. Should come down in price even more when any new phones hit the market.
This is a really big issue with this phone.
First of all, don't compare it to the iphone, cause the iphone doesn't actually multitask as it freezes apps in the background.
Start downloading something with safari and open another app in iphone. Then the download stops until you switch back to safari.
iOs multitasking philosophie is completely different to android.
Now, having paid 600euros and being unable to multitask is really frustrating. I've tried several things like different roms, external swap, internal swap, zram blah blah.
The truth is that although the stock touchwiz roms offer stuff like multi-window, they are really REALLY laggy in my opinion. I once decided to flash a cm10.1 (aosp) based rom. I haven't regretted since. I felt as if i had a completely new phone. I suggest you try such a rom. you wont regret it.
Also, there are some apps that allow you to freeze background processes. I use Rom Toolbox pro for example and i have frozen many background apps so I've reduced the amount of ram being used. Search on xda, there is a thread about which backgroung services are safe to be frozen.
Also, use greenify. Greenify stops apps from running in the background when you dont need them. Maps for example keep running in the background consuming 20mb for no reason. Greenify such apps so that they consume your ram only when you need them to do so.
Plus, change your LMK settings. The Low Memory Killer is an android service that kills apps when the amount of ram falls beneath a limit. Use an app such as Rom Toolbox to lower your limits so that apps don't get closed so often.
Finally, try zram with the appropriate settings. I use Googy-Max kernel which has bult-in zram support. I use 600mb of zram with 80% swappiness.
Having these things altered i can run at least 5 apps simultaneously without any problems. For example i run facebook and messenger along with whatsapp and skype. When i open the browser to search for something, none of the other apps gets closed.
Ofcourse if you try to run many apps, you may experience app-closing or lags. But remember, the key, is to close apps that you dont need.
Also, if your phone feels laggy just reboot it. For the next 24 hours you ll be fine without any lags.
Hopeless multitasking continues even on CM11 4.4.4. I don't understand what the reason for bad multitasking. When I switch from Dolphin browser to any other app and come just after 5 seconds I find it killed. Even I can't upload a photo to a browser. While I am selecting the, browser page was shut down.
