[Q] Browser intents? - HTC Droid DNA

Has anyone else noticed that the browser seems to steal away intents from other apps?
For instance, if Google Now has showed me directions somewhere and I click the map (not the Navigate option), the directions are opened in the browser, not Maps. And it doesn't give me the choice. I've tried clearing defaults in a few different things, but it doesn't seem to help.
I'm also seeing this in a reddit widget I have. On other devices, I can click a link and it would give me the option to open in the browser, or a reddit app of my choice. On the DNA it goes straight to the browser, no options.
I'm running UKB 1.1, but I'm pretty sure this happened on stock.
Anybody else?

Go to settings and look at your app associations.

Well, "Physical address" is set for Maps, "Map address" is set for Maps, and "Web URLs" is set for Internet (which is the only option). But I don't think that explains why Google Now is opening a map in the browser.
I'm guessing these Sense associations are overriding Android natural intent system?

I wouldn't doubt that is happening. I find that happens a lot with sense which is one reason I'm not a huge fan of it in general.

Stock browser vs Chrome Beta

Which one do you guys prefer? I am curious to hear everyone's input.
I prefer chrome beta. Nice to have my bookmarks synced to my phone. Is also pretty quick and I like tab management.

Not impressed by both .....but I use HTC browser
Download ics browser+ it's an enhanced version of the stock ics browser

Is chrome any slower than stock?
Also how do you set chrome as default for Search , links, etc? I've tried clearing defaults for the stock internet app, but it doesn't work.

I use Chrome on my 3D and love it. I do however still keep the stock browser for flash links.
Also can anyone confirm if there are any graphical issues with Chrome on the LTE? I had them with my 3D but it could be because the ICS was a leaked ROM.

I haven't had any graphical issue. I just can't seem to figure out how to change the default browser. No matter how many different browser I install, my links and search default to the HTC stock. Just did a factory reset and it didn't seem to help.

If you want to set it as the default you have to go to the new menu. This is the whole reason the phones were delayed. Check this link for pictures and instructions. http://www.pocketables.com/2012/05/how-htc-has-side-stepped-apples-patent-in-the-htc-evo-4g-lte.html

Go to Settings>App Associations>Web URLs Then just pick chrome from the list.
I use opera mobile.

I appreciate the help. Anyway to change the default for google search as well?

I like chrome but the only problem I've had is downloads not showing up in the notification bar until they are completed. I don't get to see any progress. I also can't get the Send Feedback option in settings to work. I tap it and it does nothing.
How do you guys set YouTube as default instead of browser?

I like chrome better than the stock browser, but I like the Firefox Beta even more. Check it out: its extremely quick and full featured. It struggles with flash (but really, you won't use that often anyways), as it's still beta, but every thing else works great.
what am I missing about people liking chrome for Google bookmark syncing? I mean, the stock/HTC browser has all my Google bookmarks synced.
sent from my Evo LTE, usually.

Chrome also syncs open tabs between all your devices and can open more than 6 tabs which is all the stock HTC one can open.

For some reason, my sync shows that Internet sync is broken. I think it is related to the fact that I use Google Authenticator. Plus Chrome just seems to work a little nicer in regards to basic operation.

[Q] How to make Google Search Widget open chrome?

Hey all,
wasn't sure which forum of the S3 was the appropriate one for this question.
wanted to ask maybe if anyone can help -
how to make the Google Search Widget open search results in Chrome browser?
at the moment when i search through the widget - it opens the search results in the Google Search App,
not in the S3 browser and not in chrome.
- I've tried setting Chrome as my default browser.
- Tried clearing defaults for the "Google Search" & "Google Search Widget" apps (no defaults were even defined)
maybe you can help me out on this one.
Regards,
Adiel

Go to all apps in app manager, find internet click on it scroll down to app defaults and press clear defaults then when you next use widget it will ask what app you want to use to open results then choose chrome.

Are you sure you cleared defaults for the Samsung browser (called Internet in apps) not for the widget itself, that's how I did it.

Its called "Browser" in my S3
and maybe i wasn't clear enough - when searching through the widget, it opens the search results in Google search app.
when clicking one of the results, then it opens chrome.
i want it from the start to open the whole search results page in chrome
I already said that it was the way the new Google Search worked.....

I'm really hoping to find an answer to this too. After the search results display, you can't open multiple windows for the different sites you wish to view.

On my Note 2 I had to clear defaults for "Popup browser", that did it!
google chrome help
I'm lookong for some help on this too. I have the Samsung S6 & the Launcher (google search bar) automatically opens in Google & not Google Chrome. I need it to be in Google Chrome so I can tap on the images to save them. The normal launcher page I cannot save images.
I have cleared defaults & it doesn't help. It doesn't ask which browser you want to use.
Google search is its own entity. It cannot open chrome until you hit a link in its (google search) results field. Blame android and the way it's built.

Sorry man, but that isn't possible. Google already implemented that right from the beginning, when search was implemented into the OS.
I figured it on my Galaxy S6. Settings / Google (that's right, they have their own section now!)/ Search & Now / Accounts & Privacy ...then toggle off the button for "Open web pages in app"

Assigning apps to open links

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I accidentally clicked on the browser as the default app to open address links. Now when I click on an address it opens Google maps in the browser rather than opening the Google maps app. How can I make it so Maps will be the default app again? Looked through all all the settings and I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks

Go to settings–>apps and select all apps. Find the browser and click on clear defaults under the launch by default setting.

Figured it out. Had to clear the defaults to the Maps app instead of the browser. Thanks though!

Prompt for which email client?

Is there a way I can get my phone to prompt me for which email client I want to use when clicking an email link? Under settings in App Associations I have it set to the built in email.apk, however I can only change it to Gmail, I want to clear it completely so it will ask me. Right now I have to cut the email address and paste it into Gmail if that's what I want to use. Is there an app that can do this?

Thanks for the response, unfortunately I tried that already and it just goes right back, I believe because it's set under App Associations.

I've hardly had either installed. Looks like you should be able to set it to Gmail just fine, though I think I remember reading recently that app associations were screwed up on sense 4+.You could always disable the stock email app in settings as well.

I use the stock email app for my work Exchange account and Gmail for my personal email. I often work from my phone so I would like to find a way to have my phone prompt me for which account I would like to send from everytime I click an email address or mailto link. I have been trying to look for an app that can do it but haven't had any luck. Maybe Tasker could do it?

I don't think tasker has that ability. Have you checked the viper ROM thread to see if anyone else had the same problem?

This is an iPhone limitation. Should not be an android limitation.

I don't post often because I usually do some searching and find my answer. Not the case this time.
When I had an iPhone I was annoyed that it was not possible to choose defaults to override certain functions. For instance, you can't change the default browser. That's just one example, but there are many more.
After switching to android I thought I'd be all set. And for the most part I am. However, I still have not figured out how to modify one behavior that's bothering me: control of what happens when hyperlinks are clicked. The particular example I am thinking of right now is eBay.
I have the eBay app installed. So, whenever I click an eBay link - whether it's in a browser, an email, or another app - I want it to open the eBay app. I don't ever want it to open the eBay web page in the browser. Same goes for all the other apps I have installed. Another example - using the xda app. If I have the xda app installed and I get an email that includes a link to a thread here on xda, I want to view it in the xda app, not in a browser. Ever.
How do I make sure this behavior always works the way it should? It appears that some apps will ask what behavior you want to use as default. But that doesn't seem to work 100%. Our the setting isn't sticking. I don't know.

Is it a limitation caused by the "from" app or the "to" app?
For instance, I just got an email that there was a reply to this thread. When I click on the link in the Gmail app, there is no option to use the xda forum app to open the link. Is that a fault of the Gmail app, or the xda app?
I'd say the "to" app. I use tapatalk and any xda link gives me the option to open the forum in the app
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
I say its both both sides can be programmed to do it. the app can intercept links and webpages can add app specific buttons
tumblr has app specific buttons (open in app) and YouTube intercepts most links (thus when you click a YouTube link the app opens)
