[Q] Fake galaxy note? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, a friend of mine got a phone that really looks like a galaxy note, it comes with some kind of software that is pretty much limited.
Anything useful to do with these devices?
I have attached some pics

Where did he bought it from? If your friend isn't happy with the device you should call the company and ask for a refund.

He can't refund it because he bought it from a guy selling it on the streets (think he was fooled! and he thinks the same!)
Is something out there that can help him at least flash the phone or anything else?
Thanks

If there's no reference to Android, or if there aren't any Android-specific settings on it, chances are that it might be one of them MAUI/Cosmos UI systems that come with certain Mediatek chipsets.

What does that mean ?
Basicly he doesn't have any options like he has on his HTC @ Cyanogen. I'm talking about he doesn't have USB preferences, Wi-Fi settings, recovery mode, download mode, etc..
And being MAUI/Cosmos UI systems means what?
And in some application preferences when he press settings his MRE version is 2.3.0, i don't know if this helps or not but I would like to help him.
When he first look at the phone the sticker said it was Wi-Fi certified, and had android technology, but it's just a sticker...
I'm really sad for him!

Check about phone in settings.
Sent from the zombie world. No they aren't coming yet!

If it has a different OS then it's impossible to flash Android firmware on that 'phone'.

But is there a way he can go so he can see what's the OS it has installed and a way to change it ?
Thanks

There's no phone software/firmware/wtv a normal android has in options :S

a Co-worker just handed me this same exact phone and asked me what I think, I told him i hope he didn't pay for it and he looked at me a bit sheepish. He paid 250 off of some guy selling it in the street. So I in turn came here to see if anything could be done via flashing. I guess its a no-go!
but anywho, this thing is so crazy they even mimiced some apps like Plants VS Zombie, fruit slash, and angry birds. it seems as if its running on java platform. its like a 10 year old device/specs.

Samsung Vibrant Questions

Hey guys, newbie here and I got some questions for y'all.
I am a longtime iPhone user, thinking about switching over to the Vibrant. I'm used to the jailbreaking/unlocking of the iphone...are similar things able to be done to the Vibrant?

Ok a few things.
Yes, you can root the vibrant and install custom roms.
On the iPhone you can install hacked apps, meaning you don't pay for them, techinically you can do the same on an Android phone by just having the apk file, however this is frowned upon because that is stealing. Why not just pay for the app? Apps are cheap on Android.
If you are a current iPhone user and if you purchase the Vibrant, YOU WILL BE UNHAPPY. I suggest you wait for the iPhone 5 which will be released in June, or wait for the dual core Android phones coming out. Do not get the original Vibrant.
Ps...the Vibrant 4G is going to be released soon. You can also get the Nexus S at best buy.
btw coming to xda and saying you don't pay for apps and you steal them was not a wise idea.
Go back to the iphone, this isn't the place for you.

Stay classy!
OP:
Yes, you can "jailbreak", for Android it is called root, and in turn you can install custom ROMs, Kernels, and for the Vibrant "modems" (radio's on other phones). As for "free" apps, Android, unlike iOS, has TONS of free apps already. Developers tend to offer a free and paid version, main difference is the free version has ads in it. Developers actually make more money off the ad revenue (typically) than the paid versions. There are still apps that are only paid, or the full version are paid only, and to be very honest trying to get those for free is BS in my opinion, especially given the prices.
This site is FULL of all the info you need to root any Android phone and start loading custom ROMs. It is very addictive, and compared to the iPhone, it is like living in America versus living in China in terms of freedom to do what you want. In China (iPhone) you are limited in your ways, and can do as you please to an extent. Where as in America (Android) you are free to do as you please, but have a great infrastructure to help guide you and aid you in such venturers.

I am not on AT&T, I am on T-Mobile. I have had a 3G for the last 2 years, but with the new ios4.3 comes out, it will not have an update for the 3G, they are getting fazed out. So I'm moving away from the iphone for a while, may get a 4 down the road.
I understand cracked apps are illegal, a TMO CSR pointed me to this website, so if cracked apps aren't talked about here fine, I didn't know. I was just going where I was told by Tmobile to get information regarding it. Simple as that.
I have a free 2 year upgrade at TMobile right now, so I'm looking between the Vibrant and the MyTouch 4G. Right now I'm using a Blackberry Bold 9780.

Warez is not just frowned upon, but is grounds for banishment on XDA, and actually every single decent Android site. Explaining how to get it, where to get it, or giving it out is a major no no, and asking (especially after being told) is a no no as well.
This isn't iOS where everything costs money, this is Android where you can literally get 95% of apps for free from the market. There is no need to steal, not that there is on iOS (I have an iPad, love it, and have paid for my fair share of apps even though it is jailbroken).
Lastly, if that is your only desire in a phone, then just don't get one. If all you want to do is use your phone to steal, then you don't deserve to have a phone.

Welcome to XDA! I came to the Vibrant from the iPhone 3G and I love it, as one has said you can steal apps but no one here will help you with that, also apps seem to generally cheaper on android than they are on iOS.
Depending on what you are looking for you may be happier where your currently have. Android's market is growing quiet well but I feel that it currently doesn't match the iOS market when it comes to games, so if games are your thing I would stay away (but we do have great emulators!) Many things may have changed in iOS since I used it last back in 3.0 something another.
Now few things I love personally love about android! Google Voice is easily used, Ive been using it for about 2 years now and haven't given out my real number since, its the best! Google maps is amazing, always getting updates haven't used a standalone gps since. You can customize the desktop however you feel please (don't need winterboard and everything, its just a ton easier). Swype is pure amazing, I could never go back to normal texting after getting use to it, super fast! And finally googles voice integration, you can talk and have it type what is said, you can have it search for you or even open your google maps and have it set your navigation!
As I'm sure you've noticed by now the forum has a lot of idiots who have nothing to add to the community except their derogatory remarks, sadly they don't seem to ever go away do they?

Rooting does what jail breaking did for the iphone. Allows you to do what you normally couldn't. Its also really easy to do, there are a few different things you can use but they all get the same thing done.
When you root you can install new rom's like a 2.3 rom if you wish. There developers who change them how they wish and then share them with the community, you can find them in Vibrant Android Development part of the forums. You can also download new kernels that will allow you to overclock your phone or even underclock if you wish.
In the android market there are some apps that also require you to root your phone to use them. One such app is Titanium Backup, it will back all the apps and stuff you have downloaded so if you install a new rom or lose your phone or something you can easily reinstall everything.
Basically rooting fully opens up your phone, allowing anything.

HTC inspire AT&T bypass lockscreen password

My daughter has a HTC Inspire & recently lost it due to behavior unbecoming for a young lady!! My question is is there a way to gain root access in order to blow out the password file & access the phone or any other trick that wont reset everything? If im being honest, Im scared to death of what I might find but also believe its something that needs to be addressed before something even worse happens! Any of you with daughters know what im talking about.
I guess I could just record a youtube video of me putting a couple rounds in it!
Thanks in advance!

this should do it
That looks like a nice program to instal on the device after I get into it but as it stands now the phone is locked & I dont even think its even rooted at this time! I need a tool or windows download of some sort. Any help greatly appreciated!
How about this?
http://androidadvices.com/unlock-android-phone-forgot-pin-password-screen-lock/
It should work but it will require you to know the Gmail account (username and password) that your daughter used when she setup the phone in order to access android market on your PC and download the app.
Good luck

Do you know the # of characters for the password?
Start by trying things that you know your daughter is into... favourite band, tv show, etc.. or simple things like her birthday, her best friend's name
But honestly, why wouldn't you just ask her?
Tell her AT&T needs to know her password so they can try to recover the phone... just get creative, then once you unlock it install the app and you're good to go!
Yeah I figured out the password & tried to install the program but it says for security your phone is set to block installation of non market apps & takes me to settings but i couldnt find any options to allow me to do it.
Is this a relevant article or is there an newer or easier way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706887
Go to
Menu > Settings > Applications
Check the "unknown sources" box, good to go.
Not sure if AT&T still locks their phones from doing this.. but if so, the option won't be there..
I can't imagine that they would do still lock them from sideloading because then you wouldn't be able to use the Amazon app store..
Let me know

Jesus man ......... i so wish you hadn't posted this bro ........*sigh*.
I have 6 year old twin girls ......... and one of them Gretel ........ already has the most inappropriate friends you could possible imagine ...............
Am not being 'square' in believing 6 year olds do not need high heels am I??
That 6 year olds encouraging each other to kiss boys is unnecessarily early??
Or that in 2012 hair length and colour of garment should not be a big gender signifier??
Dood .......... please tell me it gets better??
Yeah its NOT giving me that option..... Im updating the software in hopes that fixes it. any other work arounds for sideloading if not?
And no sir unfortunately it DOESNT get better! Im gonna end up in prison!! LOL
No offence, but at six years old, you should be able to dictate who her friends are - so long as you have the mother's (wife's?) support
I do hear what you are saying.. environmentally it's hard nowadays.. so much inappropriate influence from media/friends/etc
but my five year old daughter does what I say.. end of story.. it all boils down to the parents. Act now brother! Save the children! (seriously) it only gets harder.

Yeah that would work where it not for the fact that my kids are at school full time 5 days a week 9am-3pm and the inappropriate kids are her school friends. I have no control over who see hangs with at school ........ just like every other parent.
Looking for solutions for something similar to this.
maybe a free solution..... Anyone heard or have any expeirence with anything like this?
mobile-spy.com
Go to htcsense.com, log on to the accpunt she useful for HTC apps. From there you can track her phone, forward messages and calls to another phone. Lock the phone, etc..... I love it because I lost it once and I tracked it down and found it, also I was able to forward everything to my galaxy s.

[Q] Android on embedded devices.

Hey,
I need some help. I was wondering how to go about loading android on embedded devices. I need to load android into a watch-like device. Can u please help me out?
Whose watch is it? Texas Instruments? I doubt that their device can run Android. It has lots of sensors, but very little storage or memory.
If not, what are the specs on the watch? CPU? RAM? NAND flash? Battery capacity? Do you have Linux device drivers already? Can you write them if not? Are you a Linux expert or better?
I recommend a book: "Making Things Talk - 2nd Edition" by O'Reilly Media.

Yes, you'll have to write the drivers or, depending on what chips you intend to use, there may already be some drivers, or portions of drivers, available from the linux.org sources.
I'd get that O'Reilly book too.
You may want to discuss this on the Hack-a-Day forums, since those guys tend to focus on the low-level side of hardware/software integration, very small-scale electronics, and the problems that can arise from micro-miniaturization on the scale you're considering.

It generally takes teams of developers to port Android to new devices and in most cases, it's buggy on initial release. I'd be very interested to see this if you're able to do it. I think your best bet would be to find a device with similar specs that's already running Android and port it over.

SO ur saying it IS possible to get Android up n running on small devices? Coz I'm kinda in a hurry and need my prototype to be ready within a month. Approximately, how long would it take to get this up and running?

How many C programmers do you have available who have workable experience with Linux device drivers AND Android architecture?
Proof of concept in one month? You'll need a team of five seasoned C programmers, I'd think, but they'll need to be really good at it.
If you don't have a team yet, check Dice.com, Hack-A-Day, StackOverflow.com, the piece-work sites, etc.
PS: Explain that you need to do a demo of all features/functions on a prototype Android watch in 30 days. List the chips/sets used in the design (you can't waste time waiting for half the team to learn about the hardware).
I mean no offense, but the OS/software development should have coincided with the HW design/dev work, and been included in the original business plans or project plans. Live and learn, right?
I'd help out but I'm full-up for the next six months.

[Q] Android on Lumia 925?

So I got a new company phone - since my boss wanted to save some money and Microsoft seems to give away the Lumias to companies for almost nothing it became a Lumia 925... hardware seems okay, but I just can't get friends with Windows Phone (too few customization options, very poor choice of apps). Is there any way to install an Android system on these phones? Anything from Android 4.0 on would be fine, but I could even arrange with good old 2.3 if I have to.
I think I remember to have read about a project to develop on this some years ago, but I can't find any information about it anymore. Did they get sued by MS/Nokia?
if you want android, buy android... is impossible to change OS (now or in future...)
try learn more about WP.. is not that bad how you describe... is enough quality apps and if something missing, try find alternative (similar) app in store....
also with upcoming 8.1 upgrade you can do some customization and new options....

Technically it should be possible, that Lumia is using same processor/hardware as several Android phones. If some sideparts like camera wouldn't work I could deal with that.
I'm also pretty sure I read about a project wanting to bring Android on the Lumias in the past, I just can't find anything about that anymore

I'm anxiously waiting for the update, but I fear it might take some time, since my phone got customized/branded from Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile and they are not very well known for releasing fast updates... :<
Besides that, by "customize" I don't really mean changing background picture of the tiles... more like add individual widgets on a lock screen, change the launcher layout, ... I will see what that update brings if it finally rolls out, but my expectations are rather low.

Android on Lumia is new (rumored) Android phone, not flashing android OS on windows phone. you newer get option to flash android on any Lumia because locked bootloader, forget this and ignore message from anaheiim...
if you want upgrade today to WP8.1 you can use Preview for Developer program...

install this app from store http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96 and activate Preview for Developers...

Sm-G9750 bought one from someone and it didn't had any Samsung app helpplease

So I bought this Samsung sm-G9750, it has lollipop running as the os, when I go to settings about phone it says version is 9.0. I've been learning about Apks ROMS ETC to try to this this, Idk what to do I don't have a laptop all I have is a kindle and a Seagate driver..I've been installing Samsung apps from APKmirror...then I found out its goophone.....
It's storage is 256 gb as a "AS STORAGE" but internal 16gb.
I downloaded marshmallow yesterday to try to change the system uI but that isn't working either keeps saying the app will work better with firmware user which IDK what that means or what to do.
When I go to recovery mode and hit update sdcard it gives me a list only thing is I don't have a sdcard....
When I go to about phone and system update it says there are none.
Is there a way I can update through cache??
I! At my wits end on this I need help please
Sounds like you bought a fake s10, try to get your money back somehow, hopefully you didn't pay too much for it.
You can also try to reset the phone, this will bring it back to stock, but I doubt it'll work since no s10 ever came with lollipop.

Yeah I realized that and I bought it from someone off of Facebook marketplace. He blocked me etc I paid 100$ for it.
It doesn't have a serial number per device but when I log onto Samsung it has a Samsung serial number.
I have factory reset it before and it didn't revert.to stock..
I have been downloading Samsung apps and Samsung device files.
Is there a site I can go to that
I have ALL of the apps that the Samsung version is?
It says bootloacer: unknown
Firmware statu s: is blank
Says largest firmware: N/A
ANDROID VERSION
9.0/SDK22 (LOLLIPOP)
Some samsung apps will only work on samsung phones so you're out of luck with your phone. Whatever you find on the play store like their browser and email and such might work but that's about it. Try to report that guy but just take it as a hard lesson learned.

$100 for a S10+... Come on, don't tell me you didn't know it was a fake before you handed the $100 to the seller.
I don't even feel sorry for you to be honest. But yeah be careful next time... If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
Like mentioned, some Samsung apps are meant for authentic Samsung phones only.

I bought a note 9 for my wife for 90$ last week.
If I knew it was a clone I wouldn't of wasted my money.
People sell things for cheap when they need the money .
I asked for help not to get trolled on

Sorry to hear that but a little research would most likely have prevented that. A deal is one thing but 99% of deals like that are either fake or stolen phones.

Lol relax, no one is trolling you here. Sounds like you are one of those people who don't research at all when you make a purchase.
10 mins of researching would have saved you from being scammed of $100. Example, S10 that comes with Android Lollipop... Lol..lipop, pun intended.
Did you even check the phone out when you met up with the seller? Sorry to say this though but you are in the wrong section of the forum. Though they might have a forum page for knock off phones in the future.
Too good to be true. Android 9 is pie, not LOL..lolipop..no pun intended lolololololipop
