I have a Verizon Razr XT912.
I'll be using it in Europe on GSM connection with Europe's local network.
So, which ROM (GSM or CDMA) should I flash? Its the CDMA phone but I'll be using the GSM connection.
stock cdma rom have gsm roaming working in europe. you just have to insert gsm card and use stock ics.

Have you tried using an custom ROM from the ROMs section?
If you do, which ROM would you be using, those tagged with CDMA or GSM?
Thanks

I tried cm10.1 but it have problems with switching between CDMA and GSM.
Also Eclipse 1.5.1 CDMA is working fine in GSM networks.
I had EDGE working on stock ICS CDMA ROM, but on latest official JB I have no data connection under gsm. Only CDMA 3G. Voice is OK.

Are the only differences in GSM/CDMA roms just the bands themselves? Is it possible to use an XIP file from a CDMA rom and throw it into a GSM one?
There's a few more differences than that. Check the topic in the development section about GSM patches for CDMA ROMs - the work's already been done for you there. I'm running Axi0m right now.

Thanks man. I was talking abou the opposite though. I have a CDMA Razr. I wanted to know if I can mod the GSM one to run it on my CDMA.
Why would you need to do that when almost all the ROMs for GSM are CDMA ports now? Which one in particular?

I'd say its about 50/50. Specifically, theres no stock deodexed right now for CDMA but theres quite a few for GSM .
I need to know soon, cause I might trade my phone to a guy that is switching carriers from Verizon. My phone is s-off running cleanrom 4.5. What do I need to do?
ICS Rezound.
Read the threads on GSM support.

to what carrier? No hspa support for t-mobile and at&t is wonky at best.
These are not gsm based phones so trying to get them working is a headache.

None, now. But for future reference does 3G and SMS/mms work for t mobile?
ICS Rezound.
Look in the GSM threads, they will tell you.
Flash any sense 4 rom then look up the gsm patch from the GSM thread in the Q&A section, its linked on the first post.
Or you can.just flash the MIUI rom in the dev section, its gsm based and active out of the box.

Or you could check the MIUI thread in the dev section. I think MIUI works out of the box for GSM carriers, except for some data bands.

If you flash MIUI or the SMS fix on a Sense 4 rom, you can get SMS and MMS working on a GSM carrier, but none of the GSM carriers in the united states will get 3G on the Rezound. Including T-Mobile

I would assume so. Cause if I don't have 3G available it won't send.

Look at the address in Settings/Mobile Data/Access Point Names/Internet under MMSC. See if it is an address that makes sense. Like the one for Verizon is: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
I have bought a Droid Razr XT912 to be used outside US. I understand ICS will unlock the GSM bands. My question is, will loading a custom CDMA ROM based on ICS allow me to use the the phone on GSM networks outside US? This probably is a stupid question, but I wasn't able to find any direct answer to it.
Thanks.

I pretty sure that the xt912 is the american cdma version of the DROID RAZR, so installing ICS or any other ROM wont help you with gsm bands.
the CDMA have other anthena or something.
BUT check the correct model you have.

The XT912 has GSM bands as well. I'm pretty certain after going through these forums that the ICS update unlocks the GSM bands. I'm keen on a custom ROM coz it will get rid of most of the bloatware & give additional functionality as well.

Thanks monkteo for confirming. Are u using a custom ROM? I'm inclined towards the Eclipse 1.5 but want someone to confirm it works on XT912 for GSM use.

I use all 3 rooms from the signature, and only on GSM / UMTS.
I have tried to use on GSM networks but it won't connect, and I have changed the settings a few times for the Mobile Networks. I am trying to use AVATAR ROM on the XT912. Thanks!
GSM roaming works on the stock firmware but if I flash custom ROM like Rage, will it break Verizon CDMA RAZR MAXX working on GSM?

I'm using eclipse ROM in Germany on my XT912 with no issues. I've dabbled with noon stock ROMs and I think I remember using the GSM patch and they worked well.

Read about HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE getting Global Roaming support.
I was planning to get one so wanted to confirm if it will work here in India.

Works great in India, although you wont get OTA updates. So, you have to DL the RUU.exe to update the phone.
Mine worked fine in Canada on Rogers Wireless and is working fine in the USA on AT&T. Just need to add the appropriate APN data of course.
it works in India as i'm currently using it
and don't worry about OTA updates as there aren't any
when updates come just put the mode in CDMA and update it
Thanks
Thanks everyone. And please come to this thread, would appreciate any help

I simply unlocked the bootloader via HTC Dev, facepalm s-off, recovery, etc.
Then flashed CM10.1 & Gapps. Everything including data is working fine, just having a few common issues as noted in CM10.1 thread such as MMS problems
SIM slot is factory unlocked

I have unlocked bootloader using the manual method from mdmower's post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214653
and I'm using Facepalm S-Off as well and using CWM recovery. After I flashed CM 10.1 and Gapps and inserted my sim card the most data I get is E. For the APN I'm using the post from the T-Mobile website here:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1979
I have also used the *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer to access the Testing menu and change to WCDMA preferred. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks :good:
