[Q] Giving Up - Nokia Lumia 920

All i want is to go to a website, buy a Nokia 920, pop in my sim and use the phone.
i have gotten so confused and frustrated trying to figure out which one will work on the Bell network with the proper LTE frequencies....arrgggg
does anyone know where i can go and buy a RED 920 unlocked that suppose the correct BELL frequencies.
please help before i go buy a HTC 8X or worse yet an Iphone

Well hope you don't give up to easy. According to the wiki page for Bell Mobility they use 850 and 1900 MHZ. Just google "wiki bell mobility" I didn't think there is much variation between Nokia Lumia 920s but I guess there is when it comes to LTE ability.

thanks for the reply, i had a look at the site, they have the 920 LTE locked and 920 OEM unlocked. i would like the 920 oem unlocked version, but i am so confused about frequencies needed for Bell and the LTE to work
do i have to buy a rogers phone and unlock it to get LTE, and if i do that it says on that site that mobile hotspot won't work.
what the heck was nokia thinking with the rogers and att exclusivity deals.

there is even a way to check via the Bell website if the device is LTE compatible, but you need the IMEI from the phone. good luck getting that without buying the phone first

anything required to use AT&T Atrix on non-AT&T carrier?

Such as, unlocking the GSM...
Hard to search for this since most "Unlocking" is referring to the bootloader and loading custom ROMs...
thanks.
Hi!
In what country you are? If your country use:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
then everything will be okay.
Only thing you need is Sim-unlocked Atrix. If you get sim-locked Atrix then you can easily unlock by yourself with unlock code what you can buy. I bought that code from ebay a while ago. I paid ~$14.
Good luck!
If you're at&t customer, call at&t customer service and state your reason why you need sim-unlock (going out of country), they'll give you a code for free.
I see. I'm not the AT&T customer. I suppose I shall need to purchase unlock code.

I think AT&T models don't support 3G 900 either - only 2G 900.

I'm actually using my atrix on T-Mobile right now after I unlocked so far it's working fine. You might however need a data plan for your mms to work. That's what I've been told at least.

I think there is a post for this here. But if not google it. All you need is sim card from straighttalk nokia e71. Then you need to enter new apn settings. I am noon and switched mine and my wifes to ATRIX on straighttalk. Thinking of unlocking mine a
nd new rom cause of random reboots and sod. But scared. Wifes doesn't have these probs
After AT&T waved my ETF and I had a $0 balance with them they supplied unlock codes to me for both my Atrix & Captivate, sold them both on Craigslist. Luckily I had a friend at the house with T-Mo so I just popped the sim in and was prompted for the code while I had AT&T customer service on the phone.
I have a similar question, my atrix is ATT and i want to unlock the sim and use it on t-mobile, but I want to use the pre-paid/month to month type of service, will it work the same way?
They have unlimited text/talk/data for like $50/month on the month-to-month type plan, so i wanna jump on that lol

Nokia Lumia 710 from Rogers Pentaband?

Sorry, about posting this on the Lumia 800 forum but there doesn't seem to be a 710 forum. Anyway, my question is that there seems to be some rumor that the Lumia 710 being sold by Rogers is pentaband. There is a video of it unlocked and working with Wind. I'm wondering if anyone here can really confirm if it does support all the 3G bands. If so it seems like a really nice deal as they sell it for $250 no contract there and around $300 on Negri/Expensys. Thanks.
be careful
I am having problems with the Lumia 710 I bought! I have it unlocked to work on Mobilicity and it works, however, there is a problem with the phone where any case I put on the phone causes an echo with the other caller Im calling. The other side here's an echo on their phone and it is the Lumia that is the problem. Stupid Rogers store is not willing to take it back and exchange it because I unlocked it! This is crazy, even customer service gives me the work around. Im gonna try Nokia and see what they can do, but I would advise you to buy it somewhere else even though its more expensive, otherwise you can get screwed like me.
Take the case off.....
My wife has the same phone and has a case on hers and sounds just fine.
Now the 1st one sounded horrific without a case, but exchanged it out hassle free.

@wikkeddeus
I can confirm the Rogers Lumia 710 is pentaband!
I unlocked it and using it on Mobilicity. Yes you can buy off contract for $254.99 plus taxes.
The Rogers website is not showing correct frequencies, but use this website as confirmation.
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_710-4276.php
Hope that helps ! I would imagine anyone on WIND and Mobilicity reading this will be quite happy. Also AT&T users would be happy too as the T-Mobile version is not pentaband but since Rogers and AT&T use same frequencies the Rogers Lumia 710 is pretty much a slam dunk. It would still need unlocking but that can be had online for $9. Also note this phone is a microSIM phone so a sim cutter would be needed. Most phone shops will do that for you if you ask.
Thank you very much! That is an awesome deal for a pentaband phone. Only thing missing and a front facing camera.
Yes... but the price point can't be beat. For front facing camera we will have to wait for the Lumia 900. Hopefully they make that with Pentaband frequencies. Worst case is they will make a model/version for T-Mobile and those of us on WIND and Mobilicity can use those. Or would would WIND and Mobilicity be smart enough to bring that phone into the line up? Let's hope so!

@PaullikesWINMO
Hi, just wondering how the quality of Lumia on Mobilicity is? Read other places that drops signal / slow to regain signal. Have you had that issue?
Thanks!
Sorry... I didn't see this post. So far so good. I have not expirienced dropped calls or anything. I'm primarily in north end of suburbs and quite often north of the area coverage and still get Mobilicity connection. Even when in Stouffville !

Outstanding! Rogers 920 in USA

Rogers 920.
Unlocked, works with AT&T UMTS and LTE, works with T-Mobile AWS UMTS -- no spectrum refarm needed to get 3G on T-Mo.
Unbelievable in a very good way!
Edit: It seems I spoke too soon about successful AT&T tethering. I thought I had it working but I asked AT&T to change my plan to LTE and after that I can't get tethering to work.
I tested the T-Mobile AWS support in a place where I KNOW FOR SURE that there is no refarm. In fact I even verified that by putting my T-Mo SIM in a different phone that has no 1700 band support, and only got Edge. When I put that same SIM in the Rogers 920, I got 3G and 4G.
At my house, the T-Mo refarm is functional so I am not sure which UMTS band my phone is using. But I am getting 9Mbit downloads on T-Mobile at my house. That's faster than AT&T's LTE, which gives me ~8Mbit on the same Rogers 920.

How'd you get it unlocked, if you don't mind me asking. I will be getting the phone soon and would like to unlock it.
Rogers also doesn't have that horrible branding on the top either? Just the Nokia logo?
Where are you guys buying it from? Is there an XDA member who is willing to pick these up?

I find that hard to believe, as everyone including myself have reported that it is not working. Can you post screenshots and then explain what you did?
Here ya go.
First pic shows the 920 with sharing on, and one guest connected.
Second pic shows a client device connected.
Third pic proves that the client device is actually accessing the 'net via the first device.
As far as what I did -- nothing special. Maybe my account allows tethering and other folks' accounts don't? Note that I was unable to get tethering working on AT&T (kept getting message about there not being any cellular connection to available to share).
The more awesome is the fact that it supports LTE at 1700/2100 and Lumia 920 LTE runs at 100Mbps.
1700/2100 is were T-Mobile USA is launching their LTE network and as they promise, it will deliver theoretical speeds of 100Mbps from day one.
In simple English this means that when their LTE network goes live next year this Lumia 920 will be able to work on it!
Amazing !!
Second
For those of you that do not want any kind of branding on their phones, like me, Nokia handle the exact same phone to developers in Build 2012, unlocked and unbranded.
http://www.wpcentral.com/developer-edition-lumia-920-one-kind-pentaband
Hopefully this variant will make it in retail stores, maybe Microsoft Stores. This will be the smartest move to make.

[Q] Those with Developer Lumia 920... Need some help!

So I bought a Dev Lumia 920 used off eBay since I'm using T-Mobile and need the 1700mhz band.
I turned it on today for the first time (again, the phone is used so this is the first time for me) and briefly the AT&T logo appears...
The phone has AT&T live tiles too so now I'm starting to think I was bait-n-switched...
However the IMEI number in device settings matches the IMEI on the Dev box and the phone is missing the AT&T logo at the top left. I can prove it with pictures, lol.
So anyone know what's going on with this phone? Looks Like I have Dev hardware but AT&T software?
I've done a hard reset and the AT&T software stays... am i stuck with AT&T software?
With a T-Mobile SIM the phone makes calls, but only lets me access EDGE speeds...
Any insight is appreciated!

It looks like your best bet is to flash it!
So download Nokia Care Suite and navifirm+ 1.7
You're looking for the following:
Products: Nokia Lumia 920 (RM-821)
Releases: 1232.2110.1244.3002
Variants: RM-821_ROW_DeveloperDevice_VAR251040_Black_v2_Black (059R4H6)
Then find online how to flash it, and it SHOULD work. Not putting any promises though as I have got an EE-Locked Lumia 920

I think he probably has a North American version (RM-820) so I guess that flashing the RM-821 firmware would just brick the device (meaning that it would have to be re-flashed with a RM-820 firmware then in order to un-brick it)
But if your phone is a RM-820 I guess you should be able to flash it to the Rogers Canada firmware. And since the Rogers version of the phone does support the 1700 MHz band I think that this might unlock that band on your phone too.
But first thing I would do if I were you is to check your phone's product code (you can do that using the "Product Support Tool For Store 5.0" in the Nokia Care Suite) and then try to download & flash the firmware matching that product code first.
Only if that doesn't work I would try flashing the Rogers firmware (only if your device is a RM-820 though because flashing an RM-821 with the Rogers firmware would probably brick it too)
Thanks guys, I definitely have a Dev phone... So it is 820 or 821? I'll run Nokia Care Suite and see what it comes up with.
Update:
I can't find the original RM-820_nam_canada_246 anywhere.
I tried to flash to RM-821_ROW_DeveloperDevice_VAR251040_Black_V2_Black but that won't work because the device is RM-820.
Then I tried an RM-820_Rogers_Canada flash and it worked to get the phone started but still no T-Mobile 3G.
Damn, lol.

[Q] AT&T 920 on T-Mobile with 3G?

I've had an HTC HD7 on T-Mobile for a good solid three years now, but it has become outdated and I need a new phone.
All the Windows Phones on T-Mobile are very crappy (in my opinion) and the phone I would love to have would be the Lumia 920.
My only problem is, it doesn't exist. My question is: If I were to buy a Lumia 920 locked to AT&T off of eBay, then get an unlock code, would it be possible to have it running with at least 3G speeds? All the radio frequencies point to yes, but I would like to check here first.
Thanks!

if you read around, all at&t lumias 820 & 920 are locked. there is a rare rare chance of getting an unlock code from AT&T. All the sites in the web are scams. It would be better to buy a Rogers Unlocked 920 because: 1. they have the same antennas as AT&T, some say the phones are pentaband and 2. they are already unlocked.
or get an international unlocked. some reports stated you can flash the firmware from other countries and get AWS.
Long story short, unless you want straight talk which is powered by AT&T, you wont have a good chance of getting an AT&T lumia sim unlocked
hope i am wrong. working on getting a code or two time will tell

Bought mine at canadagsm.ca and had it in my hands 3 days later in Miami. And, so far is the best phone I've owned. It is a pentaband so it will work with T-MOBILE. Also, I have none of the problems others are mentionning on this forum (dust in front of the FFC, etc ...).
SO, I'm very satisfied !!!
Realized that there are two threads...I'm pasting my reply here and requesting the other to be deleted.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm on T-Mobile as well. I ended up purchasing a Lumia 920 international unlocked (Polish variant). The international variant uses the same 3G frequency as the AT&T variant (1900 MHz 3G).
T-Mobile has been refarming their network and they are now running 3G on 1900 MHz as well, in addition to the original 1700 MHz.
If you're in the Mill Creek, WA area, I can't tell you how the 1900 MHz 3G network performs since I'm not in that area. However, I live in Bellevue, go to UW and work in Shoreline and 3G coverage on the 1900 MHz network has been pretty good. At UW, I can get anywhere between 7-15 Mbit/sec.
To answer your question, yes an AT&T version will have 3G on T-Mobile's network, but only if you're in an area that has received refarming.
Hope this helps. Feel free to send any more questions my way!

This is true. Do NOT give your money to any site claiming to unlock the AT&T 920. It will only be possible for those sites to do so after May 9th, and then still only buy it from reputable sites!
The ONLY way to unlock an AT&T 920 is if you're an AT&T customer and push really hard with the customer support. It might also be only customers with accounts on business discounts (tied to your work email) that are able to get it. I get premier business customer support when I call in to AT&T and I even had to argue on the phone for 60 minutes in total with all the reps I talked to before I was able to get them to submit an unlock request.
