[Q] LCD bleed/smudge/damage(?) - wondering if anyone else has run into this - HTC Rezound

I searched the forums first, but all I found were cracked screens and the like. for months, my rezound has exhibited an issue in the bottom right corner of the LCD (see pics). it hasn't grown/changed or affected use, but it definitely ain't right.
the rep I showed it to at the verizon store swears that I either dropped it or pressed with the might of a thousand hulks on that portion of the screen, which in turn damaged the LCD. I say nay, nay to both, but they still won't allow a warranty replacement.
it's in a hard case five 9s of the time (took it out for pictures) and I certainly never mashed so hard on the screen that it'd cause damage. any thoughts? thanks

LOL for a second I thought your forum name was ****face.. Anyways back to the topic! I would honestly just call into customer care 800-922-0204 and tell them there's a defect with your display. They will make you do the stupid BS trouble shooting and pass you onto tier 2 tech. They will most likely even up giving you a warranty CLNR which you are most likely entitled to. As long as there is no physical damage/liquid damage it clearly is a manufacturer defect. As long as you're under warranty you should have no issues calling into Verizon. 9/10 times you will get nothing accomplished at a store unless its them making $$$$.

yea, it's sposed to make everyone look twice. I was even turned away at the DMV when I tried to get it as a vanity plate
before heading to the store, I called phone support for a warranty replacement. when the phone rep got to the part about "if this is determined to not be a warranty issue, we gonna charge your ass" (paraphrased), I declined. I figured a store tech would glance at it, shrug, then replace it no problem and I wouldn't have to worry about paying. so much for that hope...

I had the exact same issue on a replacement Verizon sent me about a month back. It was a purple looking smudge at the bottom of the screen. I called them right away and they sent me out another one.

That's part of their script the whole "if its deemed not to be a warranty issue blah blah blah". Your phone has a manufacturers defect and it should get replaced free of charge. Give them a call! Best vanity plate I saw to date was ShesMad I lol'd pretty damn hard.

the whole thing about having absolutely no recourse in the event that they charge for a replacement is worrisome, but I'm feelin more confident about it being a defect now. danke

I have a similar smudge spot on my Rezound now. It happened after I crashed on my bike and landed on the phone in my pocket.
It seems to happen with excessive pressure on the screen. The same thing happened to my Asus Transformer too, which is usually put in my backpack and has a lot of things pressing up against it quite often. Not much can be done except replace the screen, or the phone.

Hello, I would like to start off by saying that I've looked around these forums occasionally after my friend introduced me to it. I have found this site and forums to be very helpful and I have hit a problem and I would like your opinion. If this is in the wrong section or I have done something incorrectly I am EXTREMELY sorry and would appreciate a point in the right direction.
Okay, so it all started when my friend was kind enough to give me his extra bodyguardz phone protector. So I put the cover on after a lot of tedious and fustrating work and allowed the phone to dry for 2 days. When I powered my phone on everything was fine EXCEPT that my touch screen does not work. After careful inspection I realized there seem to be some water stuck under the screen. I then allowed the phone to dry for a couple more days and I noticed the water amount decreased. At one point or another I did need to use my phone and since it worked beside the screen I figured it would dry even if I still kept using it. The amount of water has shrunken to the point where it is about the size of an ant. It has however remained this size for over a week and I dont see it decreasing. Now I have the Total Equipment Protection on my phone, but I realized that the water damage indicator sticker on the phone was gone red. The battery one is still white (I had the battery off the phone as I applied the protector). So what do you guys think I should do in this situation? Since the sticker is red I don't think they'll take the phone back. Should I just call them and say it was stolen and pay the $50?
Sorry for the long winded story and I am looking forward to your help. Everything seems to break on me and its really frustrating. I just got my laptop back after my back light died on me and the repair center forgot to send my battery back and I'm just getting mad at everything. Also had surgery earlier this week, haha aren't I lucky?
I could be wrong, but if you have TEP, water damage is covered. I was told that it's covered even if you drop it in the toilet or the lake. Many people have experienced a wide variety of results when making a TEP claim, so YMMV. If you take it in to your Sprint store, they may replace it, repair it, or tell you you have to go thru Asurion. If you don't like the answer you get the first time then try another rep.

Where are the water damage indicators for the EVO 3d?

Yeah so a long while ago I once trashed a phone by getting thrown in a pool. I was able to exchange the phone because I was in my 30 days from Verizon but I decided that I should probably cover the water indicators in all of my devices.
Yeah I'm swindling a company but try not to remind me about it lol.
I know one is on top of the battery but might there also be one in the phone that the store would check?
EDIT: There's also one behind the back cover of the phone. Top Right underneath the hole to the right of the headphone jack.

Tape will usually work.
Why not just keep it from getting wet in the first place?
I understand the instance where you got thrown in the pool, but I'm talking about from now on. (somebody else would have been paying for a replacement phone in that scenario, not scamming Verizon)

Well ofc I'm not keeping my phone in my pocket anytime I'm near water again but there are instances in life where sometimes things happen.
Torrential downpours happen out of nowhere.
Some kid throws a water balloon at you accidentally.
Water spills on your desk.
Life is messy and to say "Well don't do that thing" is kinda wrong don't you think?

Sure, accidents can happen, but you are proactively taking steps necessary to fraudulently claim a replacement phone for when/if the time comes that such an "accident" happens. That mentality led me to believe that you might not take the route of caution when it comes to your phone. No, my statement wasn't wrong at all.

Well now we're delving into people's individual personalities.
While yes there are gonna be people who just decided to live more vicariously with their phone now that there's a higher chance the store will take it back and exchange it for a working one when the time comes that it breaks.
But that's not all people.
By your logic, people who buy phone cases are more prone to dropping their phone.
In reality, that's obviously not the case.

Not at all. Protecting your device against accidental damage is one thing. Covering up the water damage indicators is deceptive. Hence, one can reason that you are a somewhat deceptive person. That's not an assumption since you admitted it in your original post. Figure it out yet?
A lot of people openly condone criminal activity I've noticed. You pay for insurance and you get replacements for $100 if you damage them. Everything is so damn expensive due to so many people abusing the system, scamming and outright theft. If you got thrown in the pool, whoever did it should be responsible for the damages. I am going to assume it was an escalating situation in which you had previously provoked this response, therefor you don't feel comfortable making the person responsible take responsibility for their actions.
I also see people complaining about software cost and trying to get the software free through not necessarily legal means. These phones are "expensive". If you can't afford the cost of admission, you shouldn't be trying to get on the ride.
Not to change the tide of the topic, but I wish people would do a study to link this with religion and political stance. Atheist always get a bad rap, as soulless/moral-less/heathens, yet make up less than 1% of the US prison population. So I wonder were each religion ranks in things of this nature. I know my stance on religion and what I think about these types of scams.
I actually have a question about this. Mine and my Moms (didn't check my dads) indicators are all showing red with checker style lines. Phones have never seen water but we live in Florida, so it's humid. Is this indicator showing water damage, or humidity damage. All my phones show this, and I never get them wet. But I was under the impression they were suppose to be a solid white. I only checked the battery one, but I would assume they were all the same.

And let's say my phone was broken due to water damage.
I don't feel like this is negligence on my part.
But yet the company will say to me that it's considered negligence.
So now am I supposed to attack the kid's family for compensation or do I just go and scam a company? One takes in millions of dollars a year, the other may not break that in a lifetime.
And yes I realize that there is phone insurance. Parent's picked the plan, not me.

My point is this: you are trying to justify deception in order to not have to hold yourself or any party at fault just so you can get a free replacement from a company that makes their money from hard work, research and development, and sells the phone that you want so badly that you won't legitimately get it replaced if it gets water damaged. OK well because I didn't know this I went on eBay to find the stickers cause I would not be screwed over by humidity again, haha. So I looked them up and they were all white, another reason I thought I was boned (can this be explained to me please). If I drop mine in water, Sprint will see my $100 because I think that's a good deal. But if my camera goes out, and it shows water damage and I KNOW I didn't drop it or get it wet, then well a huge **** Storm would happen but in the end I would lose without the help of illegal activity which in this scenario is not bad (in my opinion).
I agree with the OP because these sensors are way to sensitive. I had one turn red on my EVO and it touched absolutely no water. BTW i live in a humid climate

I've had this happen as well, and when I took my phone in to be replaced for a different defect, they tried to tell me it was water damaged. I told them to prove it to me, and show anywhere other than the indicators if there was evidence of water. There would've been if it had truly been water damaged, but there wasn't. They replaced my phone.

i do know that as far as the HTC phones that Sprint has, the water indicators are white with red lines crossing it.. if it gets wet the whole thing turns red.. the indicators are weird though, my wife's hero had the indicator turn totally red but it never saw a drop of water, but her Evo was basically submerged in water and sprint took it apart and all was fine.. so.. who knows really.. if you get it wet put it in a bucket of rice for a day before you do anything else with it, and everything will be fine..

OP..I have heard there is also a water damage indicator located in the headphone jack and there are ways to fix that as well, just Google it. This came from a Sprint rep that came to my company for cell phone reviews etc..

[Q] Crack underneath screen and oil from phone

So, I received my HTC One M9 and activated it April 1st. There seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. However, I just noticed that there seems to be a small crack under the screen. This is a crack that is not on top of the screen but underneath the main screen. You only see it when the phone has a dark screen and when the right angle of light hits it.
Now, I haven't dropped, banged, stomped, hit, bumped, squeezed, etc. my phone. I have used it just the exact same as I used any other HTC phone I have had (EVO 3D, EVO, EVO LTE, and M7). None of them have had this issue. I was reading some other forums and they think it could have something to do with overheating of the phone causing the internals to flex and crack the digital display or they thought it could be from pressure.
My questions are these. First, does anyone else have this problem? The crack is almost not noticeable unless under the certain light conditions. That is why I think it might have been there the whole time and I just didn't notice it. Second, do you think that is why HTC came out with the Uh-Oh program? They realized that there was some issue where the phones could crack internally from normal use and didn't know how to fix it? So, in a brilliant marketing/damage control, they unveiled the Uh-Oh program in an attempt to right what they found to be wrong?
Also, the two other forums which seem to apply are the following. The first is the one with the S4 users who noticed a crack under the screen. The second is the more interesting one and as I type this I think this is what happened to my phone. I noticed an oily substance that was in the middle of my clear case. I thought I spilled something on it and just didn't notice to clean it up. Now I realize that probably came from inside the phone. I have no idea what happened but I know it was from nothing I did. Just curious if anyone else experienced this. I'll submit photos once I can take a picture at a good angle.

Here are some photos of the crack. Again, this is under the screen. The third image is a copy of the second but with the crack outlined since it is hard to see. Does anyone else have this?
I doubt they created the replacement program for this. I doubt heat would make a crack like that (not on the edge).
It may be just a scratch or contamination underneath and not a crack.
I'd be curious what it looks like with a screen protector on it (glass or plastic).
If the phone is working good, and it's not a "growing crack", and you can only see it when off, I'd tend to leave it and save your replacement claim for a more serious injury.
I don't see anything like that on mine.

I agree i doubt ut oh was created for this reason. They had a very similar program with the m8 that was for 6 months im sure they just made the program even better to try to compete since phones are just starting to plateau.

Just curious, what would seeing it with a screen protector do? I am going to probably wait to send it in but either way, I don't think it is my fault. It's great they will replace it under their Uh-Oh program but it makes me feel like I am paying $100 for their mistake. If this wasn't there, I could get $100 toward my next phone.

You're talking about the $100 that wasn't there to begin with? I don't remember HTC giving me a $100 check when I bought the phone. You're not paying for anything because nothing is coming out of your own pocket. At least they give you a replacement without having to sign up for some TEP or whatever Sprint offers these days.

That is the $100 I am talking about. I guess I am worrying about the future. I will be out $100 if I buy another HTC phone. Since it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to you, I will gladly accept $100 from you if I buy another HTC phone and need to send this one in under the Uh-Oh program. If I can't count on your donation, I will be out the $100 in the future due to an issue that is not my fault. That is simply my point.

Again, it's $100 that neither of us actually have from HTC. My point was that even if you didn't claim it under the uh oh program, there's no guarantee you won't need to use it the entire year. Anything can happen. Why worry about the future now?
Have you tried contacting HTC to see if it's a manufacturer's defect? I'm fairly certain defects would be covered under their warranty and you won't have to claim it under the uh oh program.

Have you tried contacting HTC to see if it's a manufacturer's defect? I'm fairly certain defects would be covered under their warranty and you won't have to claim it under the uh oh program.

If things happening now affect my future, then I worry about it and figure out what to do.
I actually did contact HTC and they are willing to take it back to verify if it was a manufacturer defect or not. They have a program where they ship you a replacement phone and then you ship them back your broken phone with a prepaid label. However, under that program you are automatically required to file it under the Uh-Oh program and there is no going back. They gave me the option just to send it to them and a level 2 tech was going to track it and give me the option to get the phone back if it was going to be an Uh-Oh claim. I was told they would send a shipping label but haven't received an email back with the label. I plan to call them again to confirm I will get a shipping label but haven't had the time yet.
Thanks for your thoughts. Not sure how this will play out but I will be reaching out to you if I buy a new HTC phone when it comes out. :laugh: (Hopefully my sarcasm comes out in my posts).

I think the Uh-Oh Protection is very clever. Let's say, in a year, you've never had an issue that the heavy duty aluminum and thick glass can't handle. Now the HTC One M10, (or MX, as I think it's going to be called because of marketing) just hit the market at the same time as the Galaxy S7, the LG G5, and the Xperia Z-WhoGivesADamn and you're trying to decide which you want.
But wait! $100 off? Well gee. That's hard to pass up!
Alternately, fine print time...
HTC drops the "One" line. You go to a store to use your $100.... And they point out that the exact text is "If you don't need a replacement, we'll give you $100 toward the purchase of your next HTC ONE" .... But there is no more HTC One. Unless you want another m9.

The Z3v is not waterproof, and warranty won't cover water damage.

My phone was in a pool of about 3' of water for a few seconds, with all of the ports completely closed. Ever since, the screen hasn't been responsive except for a small portion of the top left. I contacted Sony, who told me to contact Verizon, who told me to contact Sony...and on the 3rd attempt, someone at Verizon finally bridged up someone at Sony and the RMA # was then provided to me.
I sent the phone back to Sony (at my own cost), and just received it back today. They left adhesive sticking out of the gap between the glass and side trim, and left trim off the bottom of the phone, which is nowhere to be found. They also claim to have done a successful pressure test on it, but I am absolutely sure that my ports were closed when the phone entered the water. In fact, I use a Qi charger to ensure that the seals on the ports remain intact.
Here is the document they sent the phone back with.
Adhesive sticking out of the side.
Bottom trim gone.
Long story short, I loved this phone, but it is not waterproof, and don't expect support if it becomes water damaged. Very frustrating, as I am still paying for the phone via Verizon Edge.

I just had a similar thing happen. 10 seconds in a kiddie pool and now I have dead zones in my screen. Visiting Verizon today, any suggestions for dealing with them?
It's unfortunate your experience was terrible, especially with the kind of service they did. The thing is though, not all Z3v's are defective like yours. I've washed mine in the sink, taken it to shower, brought it to several swimming pools, and I've never had any waterproofing problems.
And in any case, I have the $8 insurance with Verizon for any problems such as dropping it or losing it. I'm sure Verizon can do something for you if you did subscribe to that.

Based on my experience, you're SOL without insurance. I typically don't buy insurance on phones because the monthly premium + deductible just isn't worth it on a device I can get on eBay or Swappa for $300-400.

I'm going to neglect to mention the water and see where that gets me...
I had the same experience. I had my Sony in the water with all the ports closed and it got water inside. I contacted Sony and the guy I spoke to told me I had to send it in at my own expense and they would determine if my phone was defective or if it was user error. He also told me not to hold much hope because he said he hasn't seen them replace one yet. I sent it in and they mailed it back saying it passed a pressure test so it must have been my fault. I spent $500 on a waterproof phone that lasted all of two Weeks and broke when it got wet while being used properly. I called Sony to argue my case several times and it was to no avail. I was treated very rudely by one rep and hung up on by another but most of the reps were very nice. I finally got my my case escalated to corporate office and was told sorry there are no exceptions to be made if it passed a pressure test at Sony. I will never buy anything Sony again that's how frustrated the whole process made me.
Well, I guess I'll stop bothering to call support then. I argued my case with the front line personnel, and they said they'd have a supervisor call me back within 48 hours...last Friday. Haven't heard a peep. I would hate to swear off Sony devices after this, because other than the lack of water resistance, I liked the phone very much.

Just saying again, my phone never had waterproof problems. It's really Verizon who you should contact to get something done.

Update on ruined phone
So I contacted Sony and explained to them that my phone's screen was unresponsive and registering Phantom touches. Ileft out that it had been in water, I just told them that the camera had been overheating a lot. The guy on the phone accessed it and had me run the hard reboot. He said he could see that it was trying to run files in the background, but nothing was happening. Since my phone was under the one year warranty, he said it was covered and I was mailed a replacement. I was pretty surprised and impressed by customer service. Just remember to be kind and explain everything youve done to address the issues ( soft and hard reboots, system restore, played in the configuration menu). I'm not surprised to see Sony reverse their stance on waterproofing, but I am very disappointed.

Yeah, I did read it and I was trying to direct you to Verizon since you have no better access to a replacement than them. If that doesn't workout, you may as well just purchase one from eBay since prices of the Z3v are driven down pretty low now in expectation of what's supposed to be the successor's release.
If you don't want my help, that's fine. I've done my fair share on this topic and I've been able to help plenty of others in development as well as achieving root first on a ROM that is still unannounced on its official release.

Verizon would not do anything for me since I do not have insurance on the phone. Sony inspected it and would not honor the warranty because the board had corrosion on it and the phone tested airtight.
So why are you still here? Also what do you expect us to do, more then the advice that was given? You didn't have insurance , the claim has been denied. Time to take personal responsibility for not having insurance, you have run out of options.
I had something of a similar issue but with a good ending. For a few weeks my charge cover wouldn't close right all of the time because the seal came partly undone from but I could sometimes get it back in flush. One day at work I guess it just wasn't the case because after about a minute in the bottom of a pool, it turned off. Never had water proof issues before( in the shower, other times in the pool, fish petting tank). It took a full 15 business days at there facility in Texas but they replaced the phone so I guess the guys there couldn't get the flap to seal either for the pressure test.

No damage, stopped turning on, they already want me to pay shipping costs to and from them. So I fully expect their ****ty customer support to try and charge me since they already have tried to screw me once before by charging me four times for the initial purchase price upon ordering the phone.
Does anyone know what their service charge is to replace a screen? Has anyone gone through their BS circus acts?

Where did you buy the phone from? Did they really try to charge you nearly $5000 for the phone?
I've gone through Asus RMA over the years, maybe the particular repair centre closest to me happens to be great but I've never had major issues with them. A laptop repaired in under 2 weeks, handful of motherboards, most of the time free or reasonably priced. If the device was under warranty they just accepted it. Never had to pay shipping though since its not too far from me.
If the screen is just defective then it should be covered by warranty as that would be a manufacturer caused issue. Your total cost should be whatever it costs to ship to the repair centre, and thats it.

Yes they did try to charge me 5k for it, and I ended up paying around 600 dollars in overdrafts and returned payment fees for all of my bills. My bank said it's Asus's fault, and guess what Asus said? "Our system doesn't make mistakes, it's a problem with your bank."
I've had absolutely dreadful results in the past with their turnaround time, and they've sent back a GPU and motherboard that were "fixed" but not really. I'm predicting to be told I have to pay around 500 to have it replaced somehow. And to be honest I may be done with them as a company for life, I've had about all I can stand at this point.
Which country are you in? They should fix it for free under warranty.
Just a quick update, it took them this long to get back to me. I received two extremely low resolution pictures showing very tiny surface scratches to the frame and the glass on the top left corner which would be from car keys.
Apparently that voids warranty and they want a suspicious $500 even to replace the entire OLED and glass assembly. As I expected a crock of BS from this company I'm not entirely surprised. What a joke though, $500 for an undamaged screen? Who's their drug dealer?

Unfortunately I had to deal with a similar issue with HTC for a defective camera module. Factory defect. If it comes broken from the factory its on them to replace of fix it. Legally. The warranty is an agreement IE a contract. Even the 90 day warranties.
I had to threaten and start the process of a lawsuit, and of company no company like that would want to lawyer up for such a small sum. The next day I got a reply from them saying they would cover everything, and I eventually got my phone fixed.
Ive had a similar issues like that with Corsair and Gigabyte. It happens all the time. No one wants to take responsibility for anything, and sometimes you gotta force em haha.
After previous experiences, they're not going to budge. They don't even have this phone in their system to FILE for an RMA, that took an hour phone call to begin with. I'm just never going to buy from them again, they're ****ing garbage when it comes to treating their customers right. If someone is proven to owe you money you have legal precedent to collect it. They know this. They also know a lot of people wont go through the hassle of trying to collect their money. So does LG, HTC, Samsung, OnePlus, etc and they will all try to hold on to that money if possible. Usually thats as simple as not responding to the customer. Its easy when you dont have a storefront. Only really Apple does (AFAIK), which makes it easier to argue with them and get what you should be getting.
Feel free to **** talk them for the year, but personally I feel like one post in an easy to see place is good enough. May as well put that extra effort tightening the vice on them. its not impossible. And its yours.

Hi there, got the same. Pulled out of pocket - black screen (later started to blink and bootloop)
so, as i recall i've seen a "scratch" nearby the left airtrigger area. later on i couldn't find it so i just forgot about it (thought when i'm going to put on some glass protection i wount be able to see it at all)
but, it appears that "scratch" was an amoled matrix crack... because when it all went black and then white - i can clearly see that crack is in this area. the phone itself is undamaged, not a single scratch, and there is NO WAY i could apply such a pressure to pass through glass and damage te amoled (seen JerryRig bend test?)
so far waiting for the shop to answer about would they exchange phone or not -_-
idk, at last - when a phone is designed to have a pressure applied (airtriggers) how come it cracks?....
