I flashed RazorDroid 2.5 2 days ago and it was working "Adequately" its my first ever ROM ive flashed, it was INSANELY SLOW i mean SLLLOOOOWWWWWW (the first few times it was fast but then it just stopped working completely at times i mean i couldnt even click the home button, switch screens, or move the notification bar) so i tried to uninstall it Clockworkmod wipe data and the usual stuff, and then attempted to flash Jellyblast 3.4 (Is this any good?) but the folder i stored it in wasnt there for some reason so i decided to go back to my stock Rom using clockworkmod restore and there i sat for about 10 minutes thinking id killed my phone when it finally started up YAAAAAYYYYYY!!! :silly:
im new to this lol (probably quite obvious by now) and would like to know if there are any fast but good looking Roms i like a transparent folders, and the app menu in the middle... Any roms like this? Links please :fingers-crossed:
also is jelly blast worth it? (Best bits about it, Unique stuff, is it fast?)
havent tried flashing it yet as i said above the folder has dissapeared...
-Thanks!!!

There is plenty custom rom in s5830i android development. Try it one by one.

Just place the rom files on the root of sd card not in any folder. Then they will appear in CWM...

For every we should place it in root directory
In the jelly blast tutorial it was written just place in sd card

Just place them where you want (I mean any folder) but on sdcard. Like this: sdcard/roms/bla bla bla. Or where you want. But on sdcard and remember in which folder you put the rom installer. I never, absolutely never, had any problem if the rom installer .zip was not on the root of the sdcard.

The plan is to choose a ROM which suits your preferences, e.g. no homescreen lag, better camera apk, better access to the CPU. Try a few, I use Villianrom, which suits me really but there are loads more.
Enjoy
First is first
Backup ur efs
Then titanium
Then cwm full backup
This will keep u busy for today, you'll thank me later

your /efs folder is in comparison to apps, data etc. the most important thing to backup since it is the only thing that cannot be restored without a proper backup if it is screwed up by a bad flash. it basically contains your product code, imei and other sensible phone related data. you can backup it easily with hellcat's kTool app from market. For safety reasons you should copy your /efs backup img from your sdcard to your pc afterwards.
Concerning your other questions, just read through the few stickies in the general and android original dev. section. all what you look for is explained there very detailed.

If u rooted with cf kernel n haven't flashed another then yes, up+home+power >back up. Use hellcats k tool to back up efs (its on market or his thread in dev section) titanium back up is the 1st thing that comes up if you search 'titanium' on market the pro version is costs but is worth it.
Seriously tho, if you're new to android and have never rooted, give it a few weeks first otherwise you won't know what is 'better' and if you don't and end up having problems with roms you'll end up crying that you should have got an Iclone.. Just my opinion from observing this forum for a while

hi,this rooting seems pretty confusing as i used to be an iphone user and jailbreaking was simple but this seems to be difficult to follow, ive been looking around the forum for step by step guide on how to install roms etc but just cant find them, would like to test this out to see if it was worth rooting but at the moment its done nothing for me or the phone its just added another few apps,it seems to me like its a lot of hassle to get different roms etc onto the phone & whats radio etc do i need to update other stuff when i try to put roms on & kernels whats that all about ????sorry chaps but im clueless to all this stuff maybe i should have stayed with apple.
and the efs backup has been done with hellcat & when connected to pc there is no backup file on my sd card ??

My advice is to stay away from flashing ROMs, kernels and rooting.
Use it like you used your iPhone, install games and apps from the Android Market and enjoy your phone.
Unless you've seen something you particularly want from any of the above, the risks for you are not worth it.
thinking that myself mate but how do i put the phone back to the way it was before i rooted ?
how to remove the root & go back to original way
As far as I can tell, you haven't said how you rooted - looks like you flashed a different, pre-rooted kernel. There's not a big risk staying rooted, just take extra care if you install something and you get a popup on your phone telling you it's asking for root (superuser request).
it was this
DooMLoRD_v2_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
and installed zimage to my sd card and installed onto phone so i have superuser and darkyrom2 installed ive done nothing else.
mucking around with roms & kernels etc seem a load of hassle & dont want to destroy the phone with wrongly installed roms etc & what happens when a new update come out through kies ? do i just install it or what ?
can i not just remove the root by doing a factory reset or something ?
Of course you can easily completely revert back to your original set-up. For doing that just type *#1234# in your dialer and post here the output. I or someone else can point you to your original rom.
BUT you will never get a taste of in my opinion the greatest advantage of android: it's customability.
I promise you, you won't regret the effort it takes to educate yourself a bit about the basic knowledge you need, to do all the cool stuff which is only possible rooted. It is enough to spend some time to read regulary here on xda and you will see that everything is really not that hard. You don't have to fear, it is almost impossible to brick your phone if you just have a backup of your /efs folder, don't flash the firmware of another device on your phone and don't disconnect your usb cable in the one second a different bootloader gets flashed. I have flashed and hardcore abused my sgs1 more then 500 times (no exaggeration, i am a dev for sgs1 ) and my sgs2 also very often. Everything ( while testing stuff i went through scary errors and a literally death phone more than once) is recoverable except in the three situations i mentioned above. And you can ALWAYS go back to stock later on no matter what you have messed up.
Have a look again at the content of your sdcards (also in folders and subfolders), the efs.img or .tar has to be somewhere there, save it on your pc and the party can be started

And because i am a nice guy and don't want you to go back to apple here my advice for your first custom rom :
1. Follow exactly the instructions there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Take your time to read through, everything is explained very well
2. Then you are ready to flash your first custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850
this is in my opinion the most stable atm. Read through the first posts, download the 2.9 zip from the post, copy it to your internal sd
3. Switch your device off and boot into recovery by pressing and holding volume up, home and power button at the same time until samsung gti9100 appears on the screen (about 5 sec.), then release the three buttons and you are in recovery mode. You can navigate with vol up and vol down and power or home button in the recovery mode. Navigate to "install from sdcard"/"choose zip from sdcard" and then select the file you have downloaded. Confirm and relax. That's all... easy or?

From now on you can easily forget about kies, roms here will mostly provide newest firmware long before it is out via kies. Also with odin you can always much more comfortable flash the same firmware as comes over kies.
You can flash any rom you want as long as it is for your device (gt i9100).
As i said, take your time and read across the forum and always follow the thread about the rom you run and your knowledge will improve from alone have fun bro

ROM problem

Hey,
I installed cyanogenmod 9 on my gt-i9300, the installation went smooth, but then I had the great idea to install the Ninphetamin3 kernel as well, it turns out that they are not compatible with one another(or I did something wrong), now the phone starts up and keeps looping at the cm9 boot animation. I have no back ups on the internal sd card as I did these two actions at the same time, and the phone cannot read my original stock rom.
I might have accidentally deleted them in my haste(tried following a youtube fix that did not work9
question…..Can I put the cm9 rom and gapps on a micro sd, then plug it back into the phone and reinstall it this way?
btw this is my first android mobile, and I am using an osx system to root and any information on how to fix this problem via an osx system will be greatly appreciated.

Did you try wiping cache and dalvik cache?
99% of the time, wiping cache and dalvik cache will solve your bootloop problems and force closes.
Hey
Yepp I tried all of those, still no luck, will try with the micro sd later about 2am here in sthlm and I need some sleep before the old job...
I will update to say how it goes...
Ninphetamine kernel is a Samsung kernel, it is not compatible with CM9.
Why don't you just reinstall CM9?
hey,
That is what I would like to do, but I flashed cm9 with rom manager, and since my phone is stuck looping and the boot animation I cannot reco it from there. I tried doing it from clockworkmod recovery and cannot find the rom in the file system either....so my plan is to pop a micro sd into my computer transfer the files onto that, then pop it into the phone again and attempt to do it this way... Hopefully it can be done.

Okey.... Update!
I transfered the cm9 and gapps onto my ext sd card using a laptop, then back into the phone. I reflashed and basically I have a phone that I can use again..
One more thing I noticed since reinstalling the cm9 rom
I got everything back but when I go to the play store on my computer it no longer recognizes my mobile, but
if I access it through my mobile it does is there any explanation for this?
Not a big deal but it would be nice to reinstall apps and some paid apps again without having to pay for them again..
any ideas?
Perhaps something to do with the baseband on cm9?

okey, I just found it a bit strange that I can still download most of the paid apps from the play store via the phone and not the computer.
Does that mean if I restore the stock rom(no intention) that the store would recognize the phone again?
Just use your computer and flash stock rom to your GS3, that's how i solved similar problem with GS2 when it was looping.
Odin is fairly easy to use, tons of instructions online, finding right stockrom online might be time consuming.
Backup your phone ALWAYS! With cwm, i have big list of backups always ready, everytime you messing with new roms, kernels or what ever changes you make, it's worth the time, trust me.

[READ THIS] A2SD corrupts your phone.

So I just realized that A2SD really corrupts your phone. Why?
Because every rom I use with A2SD ends up having the same problem over and over again, no matter what rom I'm using. And as a matter of fact, it's happening to me right now AGAIN after 3 weeks of recovering from a major one. Last one was worse because I couldn't wipe dalvik cache or flash any roms from CWM and had to completely reflash a 5 package with Odin.
Your phone will start turning off randomly. I myself just found my phone off WHILE CHARGING again. The common factor between all the roms I've been using is A2SD. No matter what script or mod I use. The fist time it happened to me was using Jusada's ICS final and now I'm all the way on The Myth 2.
I will still be using A2SD since I really need the extra space. My C++ compiler by itself is 60MB.
Just wanted to let you guys know, if it happened to you, you're gonna have to reflash a new rom all over again. If you can't wipe something from CWM before installing a rom, Odin is your fix.
Just want to make this clear, does your phone turn off completely or does it reboot?

I've been using the INT2EXT4+ script for a few months(?) and I havent got in touch with this issue. You could try to go stock for a week (with your essential apps installed + another sdcard) and see if this occurs to confirm it, such a hassle though...
To me this doesn't really sound convincing if I were to be honest, mostly because it hasnt struck me (yet).

I don't know. It keeps happening to me constantly. I just finished reflashing Myth 2 again. The script I was using before was INT2EXT+. Going to do the same thing all over again. I'm not sure if its the SD because this happened way back in the Jusada days and back then I had just recently bought my phone + SD.
Even while using S2E on CM7 and while I was using DT's A2SD when I first started using Myth 2. Not really sure how it's possible. This is my only theory.
Yep I also have issues with different A2SDs.
S2E
After a reboot my sd-ext is not mounted. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
Darktremor's A2SD
Random bootloop after a reboot. Had to completely restore CWM backup
INT2EXT/4
After a reboot, sd-card is only mounted as R/O. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
So every once in a while I always do nandroid back-ups. That's the only solution I know. But now I deleted scripts in my init.d specifically Adrenaline Engine because I noticed some of them has remount scripts at boot. I only left the default ones and the a2sd script. After a few reboots no problems so far. Hoping this will continue for a long time. :fingers-crossed:
I don't think that the matter is to be taken as drastically as in OP.
Using an a2sd script obviously puts your phone in the condition to be less stable than before, but some little steps will help you facing it.
1) If dalvik is moved to sd-ext by the script DON'T WIPE IT. It will result in phone not booting. If you are using INT2EXT script there is a flashable zip which wipes it in a secure way (just have a look at the Cronmod topic in this forum).
2) If the SD doesn't mount properly try taking it away and cleaning it (I think blowing at the SD and at the socket will do). It happened to me that the phone wasn't booting, no matter how many times I restarted it. After cleaning SD it was all right... and the same happened to a friend of mine.
3) Do frequent backups (at least once a week). You never know.
Hope I was helpful.

can honestly the problem isnt with the script i had this issue tons of times aswell with multiple roms.
something on your sd ext is corrupt format your sd card with mini partition tool and recreate an ext 4 using that aswell will sort the issue out
n btw i was getting bootloops and andriod force close alot before i formated
now using Amarullz tho its alot more stable

1. I never wipe dalvik unless I'm flashing a new rom.
2. I've never had that problem.
3. Yeah, I told myself I was going to do that but I kept forgetting. Either way, if you do a backup, won't you save the to-be-corrupted files anyway?

So you're saying the problem is the ext partition that CWM creates? Ext 4 is better? But a lot of people make partitions off CWM and theirs still work fine. :/

Sent from Ursa's claws.
I already used S2E, DT A2D, Link2SD and never had any problem like this.
But I'm facing a different but at the same time similar problem. By "similar" I mean that the problem also persists even flashing the ROM again, or flashing other ROMs (CM based ones).
WelI, I was testing CM 7.2 SIII Mod v2 ROM and after a reboot the PlayStore app disappeared. I did the 3 wipes, flashed the ROM again and it wasn't there either. Then I installed the Stock 2.3.6 with Odin and again flashed that same ROM and nothing again. Installed Stock 2.3.6 with Odin again, downloaded the latest CM7.2 from cyanogenmod website, flashed it, and guess what ? No PlayStore app! Now in every CM based ROM that I flash, PlayStore is missing. In Stock based ones there is no problem, it's always there.

Already did the backup. I really hope it doesn't happen anymore. Everything is literally working flawlessly on my phone

[Q] Boot Manager Issues. About to rip my hair out.

title shows the way it is...i've had it UP TO HERE with Boot manager.
I love the HTC Sense 4.1 camera on Newts HTC One XxX ROM but I dont like the bloaty sense framework that It has...right now i'm running AOKP 1.6 Linaro because it's fast and has no sense. unfortunately, I can't have both..and I found out that an app can "dual boot" your phone into 2 separate ROMS so that you can enjoy both. However i've been having NOTHING but PROBLEMS with boot manager. What started off as a simple idea has become a curse spewing nightmare
I'm s-Off and running Snuzzo's kernel from AOKP 1.6
1. I've searched the forums and done everything that other people have said
2. I'm using the Lite Version of Boot Manager since I only need one slot.
3. I have errors with "Error building new boot.img"
4. Disabled SU Logging and even wiped and tried SuperSU instead! (with logging disabled of course)
5. tried to install slot 1 via Zip file AND NANDROID BACKUP. Still having issues!
6. When installs are successful with no errors, when rebooting into the SDCARD Rom it just hangs at the HTC splash screen. mocking me.
7. Tried installing from external and internal storage..same problems...and i'm having a flip flop issue as well in regards to that..**
I'm at my wits end and am about to scrap this whole dual boot idea
**What I will say is that file explorer apps show my SD card as Internal Storage. and the internal storage shows my SDcard files...dafuq?! maybe SD card format?? that's for another forum question though...
If anyone can help me get this to work..I'll thank you and be sure to buy the app. But as for now...I'm glad I didn't spend my damn money!

From what ive heard the app has been abandoned by the developers. I wanted to dual boot too but I got the same error with the error building new boot.img as well so i quit trying. btw are you s-off? the app requires s-off so it can flash the other boot.img of the Sd roms.

yes..I'm S-Off and recently in April of this year the developer made an update to support the Rezound. So even if the app has been abandoned for future devices....it supports the Rezound...and I've looked in the forums and people HAVE got it working on the Rezound. Pisses me off that It's not working for me

Same with me it was part of the reason i went to s-off. Hopefully sometime in the future the dev of the app can update it to fix the bugs.

what about the other people that have got it working???...how come they didn't have to quit?
Maybe the AOKP ROM i'm using is bad (since the SD CARD and INTERNAL MEMORY labels are switched and it possibly is confusing the boot partition)...perhaps I should try installing the AOKP Rom on sense
Took me a few tries but I did this :
Use ext4
Use internal sd
Force screen on
Install from nandroid
For me it's actually easier to just restore nandroids if u wanna jump from one rom to another..
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Squirrel is right ot much easier to just make a nandroid and bounce back and forth..

In AOKP the labels are switched..so use the bullet option "external SD" because the internal SD is labeled as the external.
INTERESTING: when I set boot manager to install to internal (i have to select "external) it STILL installs it to the sdcard but in a folder that says sdcard/sd-ext.
NOT to the actual internal memory. I will move that folder to the real internal memory when the install finishes and see if it will work. If not. I'm almost POSITIVE that the switched Internal Memory and SD card labels in AOKP are to blame...and it that's not the problem. boot manager can f$#k itself.
Edit: I fuking quit. I did everything and the install worked from a sense ROM.but it past the splash screen and hung at a black screen.
I'm such a whore for screencast and that 4.1 Sense camera..i'll stay with One xXx for a while (even though sense ROMS are against my grain)
Boot manager hasn't worked properly with aosp since the mount points were fixed in aosp. It's the way it differs from sense. Using emmc as internal unlike sense which It's mounted as sd card. You can use it to switch between sense roms all you want to but not aosp

im not sure if this is one of the problems but i noticed when i tried to use it earlier that it asked if i was on the newest hboot (2.21) or an older one but we are actually on 2.27 so that could be messing with things
I used to use Boot Manager with 2.25 with no issues, and there isn't much difference between 2.25 and 2.27.
I'm in a very similar boat....I have a recent ota RUU and s-off and bootmanager actually installs for me (yay) but I never have data. EVER. Data never works for any slot roms, only for my phone rom. I hear this is because of AOKP vs sense. My phone rom is Viper rom, and I tried to put AOKP linario for my slot 1. It installs and boots fine but I dont have data. I also tried MIUI but again no data. However if I put them on my phone rom, I have data. I figured I put it on the phone rom, make a nand, put viper back as my phone rom, then nand restore MIUI or linario to a different slot ..... no go - still no data. I think I read here that at this point I can only user boot manager to switch between sense roms and not between aokp/sense.
If it's also true that they dropped support for it I will be extremely sad. I paid for an app that doesn't even work/have suppor then .......
I actually just pm'd both devs the other day. I'd have emailed but their email rejects anything saying "over quota" or something. And their forums give me a 500 http server error.
If you make and headway let me know because I'm lost too

Little help here please..

OK, so I have been really enjoying my Note i717 and this forum. Been lurking awhile and been playing with ROMs. Currently have Padawan JB. HAD JB V2 but it would lock up constantly, lag, and was a general pain in the butt. So I had to go back to JB. Was browsing today and came across BlackStar VI and it looked pretty slick so downloaded it. Put it on my SD card as it said and booted into TWRP to install it and..its not there. When I look at the SD card on my laptop its there..but not in TWRP. Have zip filed on my device like my blaze modem, JB, etc but again in TWRP..noooooooo zip files. Ive searched the forums and the web and the "tricks I seen people post didnt seem to make them show. I was going to go back to Clockwork but I am on Windows 8 now and it doesnt seem to support it. I am at a loss here. I REALLY want to try this ROM but I cant if I cant load it!! Any ideas? :good:
If you're looking in sd-ext you won't find it. In the TWRP screen scroll to the top and go up a level until you see Storage:emmc. Then scroll down to sd card and select that and you'll find your zip file.

All your stuff is still there. You have to navigate to where your files are in twrp. In twrp press up a level and search for sd-ext and your files should be in there if they are on your external memory.
Thank you for the replies. I had found that file lat night and tried using it, to no avail. It didnt work. And I know before I installed Padawan JB the files were visible in the main setup I just had to scroll down. Now they are hidden. Not sure why that it. I would like to go back to clockwork to do my flashing but that appears to be gone as well. Do I need to wipe everything..phone, card, etc and go back to the beginning and start over?
Can you see your backup? This should help considering that you made a backup before you began flashing.
1. flash your backup - OR wipe everything, format sd card with the phone (after making a backup of course )
2. check to see if you have CWM or TWRP
-if TWRP, you can get CWM from the forums
3. I would then check out the Blackstar thread & flash CWM again to reassure myself (I run a touch version of it, look for recommended version of CWM); Blackstar X Rom (loving it fit several months with no issue; and kernel (I don't remember if it's included) I use flappjaxxx's with this Rom.
Bigfau also has a jellybean ver. all of his builds have been super stable IMO. I've been running Blackstar since ver IV/VI & didn't want to update because it was so stable...... BS X is awesome ICS ROM!! I hope that's a good starting point for you.

in TWRP...................when I have eve hit the UP button, I get lost. I think you should hit... install, right under "select zip" you have option of either
EMMC or SD CARD. should be on one or the other?
as far as CWM goes, unless you actually removed it yourself, it is still there. you just flash one over the other. when you flashed TWRP, it only replaces CWM. it does not remove it. so if you didn't remove yourself, you simply flash your CWM over TWRP. though majority or ROM's today suggest TWRP for better results.
as for Padawan.........most everyone has had lag issue including myself. if you go to thread read from p.355 to p.378. your answers are there. since then Padawan has my phone the BEST it has ever ran. I am not blowing smoke up your tailpipe. I ran it for good solid 2 months if not more.
good luck, let us know if helped or solved
Thanks for the replies. I was able to load it today and ran it all day. I have V XI, saw a video that reviewed BW and it showed a Vers XII though I didnt see it and i believe the video also has Vers X. I like it except for 2 weird problems. My battery drained pretty fast which it normally doesnt do and i had a HECK of a time loading MMS when someone would text me a pic even though i was showing H+ with 4 bars. I would like to to try Padawan V2 as I think it would be nice..maybe I will read those 20 odd pages and give it another try.:good::good:
