Battery Life - Sony Tablet S

Greetings all ,
I noticed that my battery on Xperia tablet s draining very fast .
For example : i am on battery for 4h 24 minutes and i have 76 % left with 1hour 26 minutes screen time .( Which i made some internet Surf and watch some video)
Android OS has 26% of usage with Keep wake 2h 16 minutes.
Is that ok ? or something going wrong with my battery?
I think thats very bad stats.
Cheers

I know my battery runs 7~8h of continuous use with 50% brightness. About 5:30h~6h with 80%+ brightness.
That is a mix of web browsing, videos, facebook, etc.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention that the stand by consumption on the Tablet S is MUCH grater than, for example, samsung galaxy tab. Whereas Samsung practically doesn't use aby battery, the Tablet S may consume up to 1% every hour on stand by.

Thanks for your reply mate.
After charging several times now and did a full cicles of the battery i am getting very satisfied results and i am very happy
Thanks

Battery life

This is a post from the Xperia play forum about battery life. Since the new Xperia phones shares a common software maybe the Mini is affected too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238230
I'm gonna try and see if there is any difference for me on the sk17i.
good idea
nice, please let me know if there will be some difference for sk17i
thanks
well i tried it, and im sorry to say that ... but it doent change anything
Let me here give you and example of how bad is this phone battery situation is .
I have an HTC HD2 running android 2.3.3 and it has a 1GHZ processor which is the same with the xperia mini pro i bought , on the other hand the HD2 has 4.3" screen while the mini pro is only 3" so I already nticed after using the mini pro that its consuming so much battery than the HD2 but i wanted to be more specific so below are the details
HD2 Battery is 1230mA, xperia mini pro 1200mA ( Almost the same )
so I left both of them in idle for 8 hours ( wifi is on both have the same apps like facebook , google+, twitter, with the same update settings, )
the HD2 dropped from 82% to 71% in 8 hours in idle (Lost 11% )
The mini pro dropped from 100% to 50% in 8 hours in idle ( lost 50%)
for me this is a big gap between the two devices and to be honest i expected the HD2 to have a shorted battery life conidering its much more powerfull device and its 2 years old with the same 2 years old battery.
and i also noticed that during the test:
the HD2 never exceeded 10mAh consumption at all
the mini pro rarely went below 50mAh and the minimum was 26mAh
so i guess there is something that eats the battery during the idle time and it is taking alot of it comparing the two devices.
in fact when i bought the mini pro i wanted smaller device that will have a better battery life , but now its totally the opposit which make me confused.

Maybe very little actually.. but I'm gonna keep at manual.. no need to auto scan when I'm locked to one operator anyway.

I have been struggling a bit too with battery life. But with my current settings I have 21hours since charge and I'm on 65%. (so thats about 2.1% each hour) But thats not standby only. I have been using connectbot, some browsing, facebooking, whatsapp.
wifi on all the time and push enabled for activesyncemail, facebook+googleplus+twitter notifications, whatsapp messages and gmail.
I have disabled 3G and set my operator manually and most important of all I have unchecked the Allow wireless network-option in Location and security.
Did attach two screenshots showing the battery usage. I had to connect the USB-cable to take those (with ddms) so it did charge for a minute or so (same thing abit earlier so it shows a small charge period for 1-2 min)
A bit funny also that it shows battery gain in two places (which wasn't when I had the device USB-plugged) and also it looks like something has been keeping the phone awake while the screen hasn't been on.
But as you say it's not very often down to 10mAh as you get on the HD2. (3rd screenshot)

WOW i really envy you now , i should find whats making mine drop that fast in idle while yours can last that long while using it. i will check the settings you specified and report back the results

Wifi
I've found that the culprit for mine is the Wifi.
I went from ~8 hours to 32,5 hours(is just about to turn itself off) by turning wifi off and on only when I used it.
This is with me watching a 40 min mkv show, and playing myth defence for 30 minutes and a little talk and sms and searching the market.
Wifi location function has been off from the start.
It's a bit weird because on the x10 mini it turned off wifi when the screen timed out and it held for about the same time, so maybe it's a "feature" they forgot to implement on this phone.
On normal usage mine lasts max of 2 days and thats pushing it. Normal use means I do browsing on it via wifi for maybe 10 minutes at a time per hour I guess. Will sync to wifi every 15 mins for 1 minute then off (via Green Power app). To help the thing, I am downclocked to 122Mhz on idle, max to 800+ on load via SetCPU, always on minimum brightness. Playing with autostarts too to disable apps to run and eat memory as well.
There is a higher capacity battery thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232065
But we're still waiting for somebody to go and test it.

At 10% the phone suddenly dropped to 1% and it did shutdown.
Something is draining the battery during the sleep and i cant find it.

Yes, this thing happens to me, 30% them immediately 1% and stays on for maybe 2-3 mins then dies (when in heavy use). I will recalibrate the battery stats when the phone is fully cycle charged (drained to dead, and charge on AC overnight). Hopefully should fix the issue.

yeah. it died again at about 10%, I did plug the charger and switched on the phone and it went directly to 10% again. Unplugged it and it died after a few mins. Did pull out the battery and inserted it again and now it started to behave correctly starting from 1%.
Another thing I have noticed is that when it reaches 100% it starts to discharge until it goes down to 95% then it charges again (quite normal behavior) but the phone still shows 100%. So it could be down at 95% when you disconnect it but it starts to tick down from 100%. I did check the kernel source and it was a comment there that it should show 100% while still charging in that mode.
It's possible to see the real value when using adb logcat|grep charge and also betterbatterystats shows the real value instead of the 100%.
thanks for the tip will try that. i get that same thing too, dies at 30% but when charged, it goes up at 30% immediately hehe... well, i didn't went to extent remove the battery though. what i do know is to have "Battery Monitor" sound some notification at 3425mA. At that rating, that just means I have some time to look for the cable and charge it.
Side by side, the st15i screen is significantly brighter than the st18i screen at the same brightness level. Though the st18i has a higher resolution, its colors appear more washed out, in a way though that is easy on the eyes. The st15i seems to be brighter and perhaps that is hurting the battery life.
Upon further testing, it appears the auto brightness feature of the stock rom is doing this.
With both devices in a dark environment, the st18i appeared brighter, with the same brightness settings.
Unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be a way to turn off auto brightness on the stock rom.
My mini pro's battery last much longer then it did on my old phone galaxy s2 so I have not a problem with battery

I'm currently on almost 2 days since charge and on 8%. And just when I started writing this it did just go down to 1% and a warning that battery is almost dead.
So it become 2% "better" ;-)
But I'm still happy with almost 2d with mixed usage and standby (wifi, push etc all the time).

[Q] Guys Doubt on my samsung galaxy s2(Battery)

Hi,
Guys I'm new to this forum...
I'm using sgs2 I9100
I'm having a bought here..
my device is not coming up for not more then 12hours..
2-2:30 hours of MUSIC.
2 Hours of Games.
No use of WiFi any internet thing for whole day..
when i post this it was abt 10 hours.
i'm using betterbatterystats
it shows like this
Awake (): 6 h 42 m 32 s (24152 s)
Ratio: 54.3%
Screen On (): 3 h 50 m 30 s (13830 s)
Ratio: 31.1%
i have attached the dump file here please do me a favour and say the problem why i'm not getting more than 12hours of stand by...
and sorry for the larger thread sorry guys!!!!!
Almost 4 hours screen on, almost 7 hours awake including 2 hours of gaming sounds pretty normal to me.
Indeed, if you're using the phone constantly, the battery will drain. Seems logical, no?

With screen on: 3 h 50 m 30 s. So that means he was gaming half the time the screen was on. What was he doing the other half of the time the screen was on? Probably surfing the internet or facebooking? Who knows? He doesn't say. But if the screen was on, it was eating battery. Almost 4 hours of screen on time is pretty good, actually.
I also didn't see a remaining percentage at the time this data dump was taken, but maybe I missed it.

no!!!!! i didn't use any internet app because to see the stand by time i've planned to don't use the fb and any other internet APPS... but it says screen was on for 4 hours...
2hours i've been played games thats all..
either you use internet app or not, having almost 4 hours screen on sounds normal to me(taking in note that playing music and games does eat battery). i can continue for almost 5 hours screen on (gaming, online gaming, facebook, whatsapp blah blah blah) before i am almost drain out.
unless you are telling me that you just on your screen and do nothing with your phone.

I was just guessing. But the screen was recorded as being on for an additional 1hr 50 min, so you were clearly doing SOMETHING.
seeing your stats i noticed juice defender count is over 2000,juice defender never worked for me on the s2 try without, does juice def having issues starting the service?
my stats are similar to yours with 18hrs since charged, your usage and screen has been on for alot longer and i noticed your not rooted? theres really no point helping unless you use software by these mods since theres large improvements with battery life already
anyways this device seems so awsome, but 4hours of usage is sooo dumb... y couldnt they give it at least a 2200mah battery or something?
Playing games is very different from watching videos on your phone. It uses far more RAM and CPU power, both which contribute to high drain battery drain and not to mention the display is on and sound etc. Also, using Internet with 3g (data on) will use more power than internet using Wifi. I'm using a 2000mAh battery, and can typically get between 3 and 4 hours screen time making calls, texts, usings apps and browsing the internet over a 24 hour period, medium to heavy usage, easy. My oiriginal battery 1650mAh gave me almost 5 hours video playback streamed from my laptop (so wifi was on all this time aswel), and almost 24 hours standby. But i hardly did anything else with it.
I c, so my only question would be if I buy this device + a 2000mah battery, put on the newest android, how many hours video playback can I get with wifi, gps , sync and data connation off? I basically only want to watch videos .
That depends on the display brightness ur using but it should give u a few more hours I guess ;-)

[Q] Bad Standby Battery Life

Hello! 1st sorry if this has been awnsered before.
Very briefly, my phone only lasts about 150 hours on standby ( 1% drain in about an hour or little more )
Ive searched everywhere and couldnt find an anwser. Im familiar with the case of the xml profile or what its called xD and its not the case
Specially considering that otherwise the phone works perfectly ( I get about 4 to 6 screen hours on 3G using facebook, browsing, various games, etc ) I have also watched a 1h 26 minutes film on max brightness and only drained 20 %
But the standby battery is not what it used to be. When I 1st got the phone, I unplugged it at 7am and it stayed at 100% till like 2pm, delivering the claimed 700 hours of standby time
Now, I unplug it at 7am and by 11am its at 97 with 0 use at all ( I kill all apps and wifi and only check the time every other hour lol )
I didnt flash it or install a custom ROM, using ADW launcher now,but this happened before I tried a new launcher. I have used battery stats app thingie, it said facebook drained the battery, uninstalled it, same thing. Only thing I can think of is my apps parafernalha ( Nearly 9 GB occupied of the 11 available lol )
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

No, seriously now. I care about standby consumption because it takes away what could be some hours of useful usage when you're around, it only makes sense trying to improve it.
Turn off auto-sync, disable location services, low brightness, power saving mode, airplane mode when not using, delete apps you don't use, don't use messaging apps, etc.. And keep your screen off
I downloaded BBS and Ill leave it idle over night, see what it does

[Q] How long can your mediapad battery last?

Hi, guys, I am curious to know roughly how long can your battery last after unplugged from full charged?
Mine normal usage of whole day whatsapp, minor web browsing, and some music listening, Maximum can last 24hrs.
I would like to know whether this is normal for mediapad or there's something wrong with the battery?
Thanks in advance^^
Which model? Mine MP7 Lite also has low battery life. I charge it daily.
Sent from my MediaPad 7 Lite using xda app-developers app
For me, with Internet relatet apps & wifi, no games, no vids, active display time up to 4,5hs.
Otherwise its off most of the time instead of standby, which is mostly useless if wifi goes into standby as well, else it will draw mucho power.
For me, normal use lasts in round about 5 to 6 hours.
Navigation with full brightness, WLAN/MobileData on, sometimes switching to webbrowser or to shazam... 16% in 40min - or >4h.
(normally the pad is plugged, while driving
Just to give an idea.
Greets Gunnar
mine can last up to 6 hours of browsing with 25% brightness
Yeah, brightness is the key for saving battery!
If you look into the settings/accu you'll see, that round about 50% goes with the battry.

Exynos battery life

Hello all ,
I was about to buy an Exynos model and read somewhere on here that there was an update to fix battery life. Is this true and how much has it improved ?
Thanks
Personally I see much better battery life after the April security update. SOT gets about 6 hours of normal use.
i still haven't received the latest update, but my battery life is great
i get 8hrs of SOT
ARD 4 is latest firmware ?
From wich country ?
Tnx.

Reading Anandtech article, exynos does not seem to be a good choice unfortunately. I have read all about it after my devices was shipped today, might return it.
I will tell u the truth, i have snapdragon and 5 hrs of SOT , since 1 month so the battery life is almost same
5-6h SOT with 2 days of usage between each charge. But depends heaviliy on your usage.

I'd like to know if you guys are using Facebook and Messenger apps. Tried it on a brand new unit without logging it in and the standby drain is less than 0.5% an hour. Installed those two because I actually need the Messenger (can't seem to greenify Facebook) and my standby drain is like 2% per hour.

Recharging the G965F(exynos dual sim) every evening at 7,8 PM after unplugging in the morning at 6,7 AM.
AOD , gallery syncing, nearby device scanning, cloud based services, find my mobile service, NFC off. Wifi power saving on, 5 Sammy blaotwares disabled , no game playing , most appkications are in sleeping mode, no battery hogging app and I'm just a light to moderate user with 90 % wifi connection.
4 to 5 hours sot and 13,14 or maximum 15 hours it lasts. Experienced other top of the line phones with better battery life.

With Messenger you mean the Facebook Messenger? Well no facebook, no friends at facebook to chat with .
I just dont like this company at all. The idea behind it is really cool, keeping people connected. But what they do with your data isnt. Not a tiny bit.
And if the trend goes on, WhatsApp will also be uninstalled someday. But this would be hard, since nearly no one uses an alternative messenger.
Whatsapp does the job for me and its much easier on the battery.
But back to the topic: Have you tried this Lite app?
Should be less stressfull for your battery.

Sounds a lot like my usage, also the settings you have done. Did you also disable 4G active while on Wifi? Its hidden in the developer settings.
Otherwise im currently ~32,5h off the charger with 42% left. My screen usage is at 2h 22min, so maybe 4,5h overall in this run. But its not too bad cause of the overall runtime, as standby also drains the battery.
If im pushing the battery more without trying to achieve 2 days i have no problem getting to 6h of SOT.

That sounds very similar to another poster here who is also having issues with dual sim battery drain. He also made the same comment about having better battery life with other "top of the line" phones. Interestingly, I thought you posted a screenshot of 8+ hours SOT with the exynos recently (and 15+ hours SOT with the snapdragon). So I suppose those figures weren't a good reflection of your "average" SOT? As now you're mentioning only half that SOT, despite quite a few tweaks too.
Question - it sounds like you have around 9-10 hours where you're not actively using the phone during a typical discharge cycle. Do you have a sense of what your hourly standby drain is (I asked the same question of the other person having issues and I think he mentioned about 1% or less drain per hour)? A good way of observing it is leaving the phone uncharged overnight. I'm just curious as to whether your relatively poor battery life is mainly due to excessive standby drain or excessive drain despite only doing light-moderate tasks. I ask this because, in my experience (and also with people like Galaxo60) and demonstrated in numerous battery drain video tests, heavy use (eg. GPS navigation with high accuracy) tends to drain the battery by around 10-15% per hour and very heavy use (complex games, video calling) tends to drain the battery by 15-20% per hour.
Assuming a standby drain of 1% per hour (which is on the high side with AOD disabled and a good wifi connection), you can see that even if you played a complex game for 2 hours (40%), then an hour later (1%) you did a video call for an hour (20%), then an hour later (1%) you spent 2 hours navigating Maps with GPS on high accuracy (30%), and then you went to sleep for 6 hours (6%), your battery would be down to about 2% over a total of 13 hours on battery with 5 hours SOT. I'm probably giving the high side of the estimated battery drain in each task too. And this should be without any significant tweaking (based on my experience, and unless those video tests forget to mention tweaking etc). It sounds like you don't do any of these heavy or very heavy tasks, and therefore your SOT should be more like 6-7 hours over 20 hours or so (just a rough guess to make the point).
So assuming your hourly standby drain is also around 1%, then the only thing I can think of is an app that you're using or a task that you're doing (or some specific combination of apps/tasks that exynos doesn't like?) that is draining the battery more than it should. Or throwing in a wild speculation, somehow there's a built-in kernel backdoor that activates while your screen is on and is secretly doing something that drains your battery more hehe (and of course doesn't show up in any battery stats).
I know the occasional poster has also mentioned having only 1-3 hours SOT, so you're not having the worst reported SOT I suppose. It would be interesting to know what the hourly standby drain for those people etc is too.

That sounds very similar to another poster here who is also having issues with dual sim battery drain. Where have you seen me posting 8+ hours with the exynos? It was of 6 hours and 50 minutes in the "screen on time" thread achieved when additional battery saving steps like bk package disabler disabling huge chunk of services and apps and keeping location in power saving mode. (bk no more working as it's removed from playstore and I went for factory reset after BRE5 update)
4 to 5 is the average sot with 13, 14 hours with few battery saving steps. No wakelocks no battery hogging applications.
