UPDATED: forced a sprint update - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

It happened about 10 minutes. But can't seem to find what changed. Has anyone else gotten one recently?

Was it an HTC software update? I don't have one... Unless you just now got the Jelly Bean update.

It was probably this:
http://www.htc.com/www/support/content.aspx?id=191316

It may have been an HTC update. The pop up was generic. I checked the link posted, that wasn't it.
The pop up said the an update has been downloaded and will be installed.

I've had my prl update itself. You get a self service update screen from nowhere then new update.

Deff can.
Sprint can force a number of things to update. PRL, and just a profile update are the most common to come through as they deal with your connectivity to towers and with all the tower upgrades they are likely to be needed more often now to ensure everyone is the most up to date.

Every prl update I've had on this phone has been pushed by Sprint

Out of the three years of being with android not once has my pro updated automatically.. strange

A little new... I think it came out a few weeks ago. (it is already on my phone because I did a manual update a few weeks back)
Scary how it was completely forced. No backing out at all. Happened to me last night

It came out a few weeks ago, i justed updated and i am still on 21080. So as far as i can tell this is the most recent
my wife's orig evo gets forced prl updates.. it just happened 2 nights ago while we were laying in bed, she was looking something up, and it just started updating while she was in the middle of her browser..
I got it, it didn't force it on me tho.. I did it manually.
It is 21080 which is weird because I always had the 6xxxxx labeled ones.

21079 was a prep for the EVO 3Ds ability to utilize the 800SMR Band
21080 is the latest PRL
PRL Interpretation of PRL Version: 21080
PRL Comparison of PRLS 21079 to 21080
No update here. Still on 21080.
Mine did not push - but updated from 21079 to 21080 upon manual update of PRL
whats the evo 3d gonna use the 800smr band for? just roaming or 3g/4g? will those funky circle antennas have to be on the tower now to get 4g?

2 program updates

Hey all, just saw that there is another small update available that affects HCAddProgramWidget and SPCSCorp4G
Not sure what those are. Goodandevo.net claims that since they are just program updates and not full update, that it is ok to update these and not affect being rooted. Can anybody confirm this?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I'm wondering the same thing

I ran the updates just now and it just installed the apps, didn't even reboot. Still have root and nothing else seems to be effected from what I can tell.
Using stock 2.3.4 rooted
I can confirm that I was not rooted before I installed them, and I am still safely unrooted. ;-)

Mine worked fine. However I did do the OTA and already have 2.08. Maybe you have to be on a 2.08 rom for it to work?
Maybe it hadn't rolled out to my area yet?

I could never successfully connect to the Corp 4G so I couldn't tell you :/
Maybe it's for corporate accounts?
I get better 4G. A little better signal and more consistent speeds. As to those wondering if the app updates will break root, no it won't. They're just apps, kinda like when a market app gets updated.
Can someone who's done the update extract them and upload them for those who are on ROMs with update turned off?

Also, quick question about PRL updates... Sprint Zone basically ALWAYS says I have a PRL update and/or Profile update when I go into the "I need help" section. I'm curious as to what this actually does for my (our) service and is it tower specific or Carrier wide...?

Ok, that makes me feel a little better because I've tried it a couple times and the second time I let go for about 30 mins with it being stuck on the "Contacting Network" message and nothing! But if it finally took after some tries for you, I'll keep trying!

Haha don't use sprint zone, its archaic and isn't properly updated, use the about phone tab to check software and carrier versions. But to answers your question, a PRL (Preferred Roaming List) update is carrier wide. When towers are updated or tweaked they roll out a PRL update, normally they do a couple towers and then roll out a update, or else there would be a new PRL update every day! Most PRL updates come from upgrades, like the transition from CDMA to CDMA LTE towers. Even though you prolly won't see much effect from the update in your area, if you ever traveled to a 4g area without the update your phone wouldn't work efficiently, so everyone gets the update. PRL updates also come from tower performance tweaks aswell.

Thanks for the heads up about Sprint Zone and the info about PRL updates. I assumed it had something to do with the network but wasn't exactly sure. I've gotten messages from Sprint recently talking about "A new Network is coming" so that would make sense and I know they've also done some tower upgrades in my area recently.
On another note, is anyone else having issues with doing a PRL update? It has still yet to work and continues to just hang on "Contacting Network" message. When it hangs on that message it totally renders my device useless and I have to power down (or pull the battery).

The messages about the new network are pertaining to Network Vision, sprint is merging all their technologies 3G/4GLTE/WiMax(where available) together into a more efficient spectrum and coverage overlap! Its actually quite an impressive system! At least the PowerPoint was lol, hoping that they deliver what they promise!

I hope they deliver too because it sounds promising. I can't complain too much tho, I get fairly good service most everywhere I go in my area. 4G (WiMax) is pretty limited but I get it where I work and surrounding areas.
Still have yet to have any luck as far as a PRL update goes tho. Oh we'll I guess, I'll try every now and then and if it happens it happens...

No, I'm pretty sure you have to flash stock to update, then flash back to whatever custom ROM you're using.
Easiest way is to have a nandroid of stock, take a nandroid of what you're using, flash the stock, update via "about phone," then restore your custom nandroid.

Yep, same here.
Why not try the new PRL before rolling it back?
Its not like a software update. Its not going to hurt your phone or prevent you from root/s-off. Sometimes a PRL upgrade can be a good thing.

See the other PRL thread for more details, but the short version is that I'm seeing the best speeds on the PRL my phone was shipped with. (PRL 24003). I've tried all of the PRL versions I've seen come through on the phone and tested each one.
I'm in la area I'm wondering if this could be because of LTE?

Thanks!
Mine says 25004. Haven't had any updates.

25004 is a latest one but so is 24004.
I thought I saw one person in another thread say 24004 is corporate ver of the 25005 but need more people to confirm that based on they account and what they have.
Corporate ones give better data speed on roaming is why I am wondering.
25004 here on a personal line as well.
I'm almost positive I've been on 25004 for awhile. I don't remember seeing or doing a prl update.

MIne changed the other night to the 25004 and now i hardly get a data connection to top off my already horrendous 1 bar/roaming all the time crap signal at home
Mine tanked pretty hard on 25004, down to like 14kbps from 700-800 downloads, my upload hasn't really changed.
I've been having issues all day with sms and mms, also been dropping to 1x and so I looked and my PRL is 25002..
Did a prl update and I'm back to 25004.. really weird. Only thing ive done is last night I ran the mod to remove the HTC disclaimer on boot up screen.

I just got a system message saying I received some kind of system update. Anyone else getting anything like that or know what changed? I can't find anything out of place. Got my hopes up thinking I'd finally get stable LTE but no such luck.

This was not an OTA update. I was never given the usual choice to download the update over wifi. The message stating that the update was done just appeared with only an OK button to acknowledge.
I am S-off and rooted.
I got the same thing but mine was in the DC area because a tower near me was down and I kept getting error 16 with calls (at least that is what the tech on phone told me). This all happened after feeding the panda and reactivating so more than likely it was that causing the problem. However I think SPRINT's default thing to do is send at update to you the minute you call.
