I9300 XELLA How to Root? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi fellows,
I read that chainfire has not yet released cf-root for XELLA rom.
and my question is how can i root my device without installing custom rom?
if that's not possible, is there a kernel that i can flash that roots my phone without so much tweaks.

Rooting
Download CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip on your computer and extract the file.
from h**p://download.chainfire.eu/196/CF-Root/SGS3/CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.zip
Open ODIN
Switch off your phone and enter into download mode.
(To enter into download mode you need to press Volume down button and Home button simultaneously while turning the phone on.)
Hope you have your device’s USB drivers installed on your computer if not install it.
Now open ODIN on your computer and connect your device to computer while your phone is on download mode.
When your device will be connected to your computer, one ID:COM boxes will turn yellow/Blue after some time.
Select the files that you have to flash or install on your device from the extracted files in first download.
Now in ODIN, check for Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options.and for the Re-partition option, check only if you have selected .PIT file above.
Click start in ODIN and the flashing will begin.
This flashing might take some time.As soon as the installation ends your device will restart.
Unplug your device from computer.
Switch it off again after it turns on completely and boots to home screen.
Now you need to enter into recovery mode,to enter into recovery switch on the phone while pressing Volume up,Home and Power buttons together.
Navigate with volume buttons to and select wipe data/factory reset from the recovery menu.
Select reboot system now and wait for device to boot again.
You are done, you rooted your Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean I9300XXELLA Final Firmware.

I think this method will flash the kernel and the sudden death fix will not stay is that true? and are there risks because of the locked bootloader.
Read a topic where someone bricked his phone because he flashed another stock firmware on xella update.

Why are people referring to the ELLA bootloader as locked? It's not locked because you can root/flash to your heart's content, the only difference is a custom kernel or recovery will set the flash counter back to 1 after TA, simple to get round. Flash a stock kernel, run TA, flash stock rom (without entering recovery), wipe data in stock recovery. How is that so hard for people to get round?

Oke guys,,,, my point is i always thought that flashing CF ROOT is flashing kernel!!
SO if i flash latest CF ROOT my safe XELLA kernel is gone..... is that not right ???

Yes thats right so there is no way to root XELLA with keeping STOCK kernel and STOCK recovery for safety of SDS.

I used CF-auto root which worked like a charm!

to be safe or not , I myself 100% sure that XELLA don't contain the fix . why ?! I installed the XELLA and my device died two days ago.
as long as Samsung didn't announce that "a certain rom" got the fix , No one is safe.
I communicated with STOMAX please find his posts " specially the Post where he introduced his custom ROM Stomax v13"
final words (My opinion)
Samsung didn't officially announce the fix (even the bug) == No one is safe.
Good Luck

Flashing cf root does not flash a kernel. If you flash cf root then flash one of the protected recoveries, you should be fine on XXELLA

oke and how do i flash the xella recovery then?

If you are flashing via Odin you will have stock recovery, if you then want a custom/protected recovery flash with mobile Odin/cwm depending on format it comes in

RIP Samsung S2

I screwed up my S2 when testing different ROM:s
Now it is dead ... can't power it on - only download mode works.
I tried to install the original Samsung ROM ... but it didn't work.
Is there a way to kick it alive ?

Wipe it and then install rom from odin and after install wipe again
Thanks ... now the sun is starting to shine again.
Just some questions.
1) How do I wipe it out ... there is no option in Odin
2) Which ROM should I take:
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPG-v5.5-CWM5.tar
Kernel_I9100XWLPG.tar.md5
My S2 was I9100XWLPG befor it died.
It never died!
Learn how to use Odin
Get stock rom from www.sammobile.com
Or use checkfus down loader.

this is not a rom its a kernel thats why you cant boot up after flashing
Thanks guys ... here is what I did:
1) Booted S2 into recovery mode.
2) Chose wipe data / factory reset
3) Auto rebooted
4) Booted into download mode
5) started Odin 1.85 (tried also 3.04, same result)
6) for PDA I took CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPG-v5.5-CWM5.tar which worked fine before I messed up
7) Odin went OK telling me kernel loaded & passed
8) now when I power on I only get Samsung logo and it powers off
So where did I go wrong ?
Should I use Heimdall instead of Odin ?
If i am not wrong you are flashing kernel not the whole rom.Remember till the time download mode is accessible your s2 is alive.Dont panic and mess up more.Just download a stock rom from sammobile and flash using odin.

If you were able to get into recovery just flash a rom. You don't have to go as far as a stock Rom if you don't want to. In download mode flash a recovery with Odin and then boot up into the recovery and flash the rom you want. That's it

Good to hear that the proper solution to your problem is being done. I had mine in an boot loop, while testing various roms. It wouldn't go pass the boot animation, just kept loading it over and over again. Then I did an "wipe data" and reinstalled rom and voila, my problem was solved as well
Yup all is not lost until download mode is lost.
Once got scared on kernel panic mode but reflashed and BAM

Bricked phone? Desperate need of assistance!

I was running the new Jellybean ROM just fine but decided to revert back to the AOKP ICS ROM. I did a backup of my JB rom in CWM and then did a restore of the backup from the AOKP ROM. But I forget to do a factory wipe. The ROM booted up fine the first time and then after a reboot it was just endlessly running the boot animation.
I could only boot into download mode so I tried to use PC Odin to flash a ROM I had but the program gets stuck at factoryfs.img. Please can anyone offer assitance?!
If you're to that point, flash back to stock first before you do anything else using creepyncrawlys guide in the dev section.

You don't have to do a wipe when restoring a nandroid backup on our phones, since it overwrites the entire data partition anyway. I'm wondering if ClockworkMod versions could be at the root of this. You didn't say which JB you were using, and I am not up on AOKP, but did the JB rom have CWM 6.0.1.1? and AOKP have the 5.x version? I think these are supposed to be backward compatible, but I'm wondering if restoring a 5.x backup with the 6.0.1.1 version could be at fault here. Just clutching at straws for a reason.
As far as recovering, go to the Download Repository, and first try flashing the complete firmware package with bootloaders. If that doesn't work, then try flashing the critical parts individually, i.e. secondary bootloader and param.lfs. If that doesn't work, there is a pit file there also, so you can flash the stock package with repartition. I assume you understand the risks.
I was using the SuperNexus JB rom. They did have different cwm versions but not sure which they were. Luckily I found an md5 file that would load 100% using pc Odin. Any tar file I tried to use first wouldn't load. Then I was successfully able to use the gingerbread stock with root tar listed in the unbrick section and then install a kernel with cwm to do the restore again. So I'm back to the AOKP. Only took 5 hours to fix this time. Ugh.

I found the file on this site: http://www.droidreader.com/2012/05/how-to-un-brick-or-fix-soft-bricked.html
It's the Recovery Package for ICS that I used: http://hotfile.com/dl/146748985/809318f/I9100XXLPH.zip.html
The zip contains an md5 file which PC Odin was successfully able to load entirely. I suppose the md5 fixed something that was screwed up which prevented the tar files from completely loading.
Then I was able to successfully flash the kernel + rooted UCKH7 system package found here. Next I flashed a gingerbread Siyah kernal found here in order to gain access to CWM and restore my previous backup.

I'm surprised you were able to enter download mode to complete this step, since the I9100 package you used previously contained bootloaders. The secondary bootloader for the I9100 would change the button configuration for entering download mode and recovery mode.

I tried using files:
I777UCKH7 OCD With Root.exe
UCKH7_stock_root.tar
uckk6_stock_rooted.tar
ATTGalaxyS2Unroot_SGH-i777.tar
I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPH_CL118559_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
None of the tar files would complete. The md5 was located in the zip that I downloaded from the previously mentioned site. The file did load a ROM whose hard button configuration didn't match my phone model. Only the menu and home buttons worked and home was actually back. But I didn't have to do anything in the ROM. Download mode was still VOL Down + Power button.
After loading the md5 file I was able to use the exe but when the ROM loaded I wasn't able to get past the setup wizard. I would click on the android in the middle and either it wouldn't respond or different processes kept force closing. I remember one was a google framework process and there were like 2 others that popped up.
Everytime one of the other files failed I had to redo the md5 because the tars would get stuck again. So after several attempts I finally was able to use the UCKH7_stock_root.tar file to move forward with restoring my soft bricked phone.
Maybe someone can list the md5 file of the UCKH7_stock_root.tar incase PC Odin gets stuck like this for someone else? Though I'm no expert so I can't be sure if the tar vs md5 was what fixed the issue. I just know that file helped even if it wasn't the right one for my phone and, to my knowledge, caused no other issues once I used the correct tar files. I'm happily running the new AOKP JB ROM with no issues thus far.

[Q] SAMSUN Galaxy S3 unrootable what so ever

Hello Gentlemen,
Last time I managed to root my device Samsun galaxy S III (GT-I9300) via CF-Root 6.4 and it was successfully rooted,
This was the last time it has been rooted, afterwards, I upgraded and flashed a Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via Odin and found out that Root has GONE !!!
That's okay, but the most amazing problem is, the device does never get rooted no matter how many times I try to root it via the same method mentioned above (CF-Root 6.4),
I though afterwards that this is because CF-Root needs to be updated or something, so I reverted back to ICS 4.0.4 by flashing a stock md5 ROM over.
I tried the CF-Root 6.4 and found out it does not work anymore, please help me gentlemen as I spent the last night trial & error, never succeeded.
I am doing all of this just because I want to flash the HD 14 Android Revolution ROM made by Mike here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
I hope there was an md5 or tar file (Odin flashable) so that it could be much easier to flash for people who are stuck with this situation.

Can you see the su app? If not try installing it
similar problem
Hi, Im having a similar problem, I was rooted, upgraded to 4.1.1 through kies and it was rooted no more. I rooted it again and no problem. I tried a custom rom and it had an issue with wifi so I went back to stock. Now Ive loaded the stock back on and after wiping/factory reset and clear cache it still says Im running a custom binary, system status is custom also, so trying to root it again so I can reset the flash counter and load my backup but it keeps getting stuck on set up connection on odin and eventually fails.
Ive been at this all afternooon with out much luck, can anyone provide me with some guidance on this?

I can't see anything like SU or CWM or anything else, besides, I use root checker and it tells me that I am not rooted yet.
Any idea why this is happening?
Also I noticed that upgrading to Jelly Bean changes the SDCard name to Sdcard0
After flashing CF-Root with Odin, your phone should restart in custom recovery to install SuperSU and CWM app
If it's not, try that:
-Flash CF-Root with "auto-reboot" disabled in Odin
-once flash is done, unplug your phone from the computer
-restart in recovery with VolUp+Power+Home
It should trigger the apps installation process

After flashing CF-Root with Odin, your phone should restart in custom recovery to install SuperSU and CWM app
If it's not, try that:
-Flash CF-Root with "auto-reboot" disabled in Odin
-once flash is done, unplug your phone from the computer
-restart in recovery with VolUp+Power+Home
It should trigger the apps installation process

[Q] [HELP] i9300 stuck on Galaxy S3 Logo

Hi friends I need help!!.
My Galaxy SIII i9300 stuck on initial Logo.
***Since march 19 was the last time that I install the FoxHound Custom ROM But NEVER has fault, Today when an incoming SMS to the smartphone it restarts and stuck on initial logo.

I can enter on recovery mode but I think that I have a problem here, because in the recovery says that:
And when I try to do anything in the recovery the smartphone restarts automatically and don´t do anything, and when I can install another custom ROM from ext-SDcard all goes good, but when I restart it stuck on initial logo again.
I flash with Odin
(Odin3 v1.85 y Odin3 v3.04)
2 officials firmwares from "samfirmware.com"
and also the: CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar
and the CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5
and the CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4
and none of it worked, all give me the same error.
The kies doesn´t detects it....
(I close all the kies process when I use odin....)
Any suggestion?
Obviously it lost the warranty because the flash counter says 2 and I can not delete it because it does not start :S
Other info:
Last ROM: Foxhound 2.4
Kernel: Siyah
Recovery: Siyah

"E: format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8"

Exactly so.....you can have no screen or anything at all, or you can have no recovery but d/l mode still shows (worst case scenario)
Try flashing pit files with repartition ticked,to reformat partitions and then flash a Sammy stock rom(not deodexed or with root).worked on gs2 and should work on gs3 too..

It works fine on SM-J500G too. But I have to flash the stock firmware after flashing twrp with odin on my rooted device. My device cannot boot into system, keep booting into twrp every time I reboot from twrp menu. After flashing stock firmware and and re-flash twrp, my device can now boot into system when I choose reboot from twrp menu. Thanks for the twrp tar file.

So if I understand correctly... You restored a old backup but it didn't restore the apps. If that's the case, did it say any errors when you tried to restore

Sadly I really don't know what could cause the issue. My best guess is the boot.img . Once I am at home I will send you some instructions how to flash the boot.img
OK instructions.
To flash bootimg download the stock Rom from sammobile. Then open the ZIP. Next open the ZIP inside the ZIP by removing .md5 . then take out the boot.img. once you enter twrp flash the Boot.IMG.with the flash IMG option
I just tried it in my j500m and it worked! Now just waiting for a great rom

Hello. I know that this post is off topic, but this is the only "popular" thread for this phone and it doesn't have it's own forum yet.
@CTXz : I hope you won't get mad on me for mentioning you Maybe you can answer me about what I wrote below.
I got Samsung Galaxy J5 SM-J600FN yesterday. It is a nice phone for 200euros... But I experienced a problem. When I put a call in speaker mode, the person with who I'm talking won't hear me after few seconds and when I switch back to normal mode (speaker off) he can hear me. Now it started to happen in normal calls too. I did put network in 2G to consume less MB, I don't know if this might be a problem.
Anybody else experienced this? I'm wonder if it is a hardware issue or software issue.
Also, the volume buttons and power button is moving lil bit in left-right, I don't know if is a problem at all because are working. So, people who has this device, please let me know if buttons are same to you and if you experienced that call problem.
Thank you! Have a nice day! Robert.
PS: I'm sorry if my English is bad

Hey no i'm not mad
The calling issue is most likely software. It's also quite common. Try to wipe cache. If the problem presists you can make a twrp backup and install the stock rom again. Then restore the backup data etc.
The buttons are totally fine. All my Samsung phones/tablets have that. Why? Dunno.

Gonna wipe the cache now.
About buttons, you gave me that peace of kind by saying that I was worried that could get break soon or that I got a device with problems. At my previous phone named Galaxy S Advance the buttons were moving too but less and I have used it for 2+ years, I never checked buttons before tho.
I won't install other stock Rom yet until I'm sure that I won't break that Knox. I'm new to this Knox protection and I haven't read much about it. I already miss so many root apps from previous phone
May I ask you in how much time does charge your J5? Mine charged in 4-5 hours when it was powered off, I did this two times and now I think i won't repeat it again.
Thank you alot for your answer.
If you reflash stock it wont break stock. But if you flash twrp it will
