[Q] p760's firmware on p765?? Is it possible?? has anybody tried it yet - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Has anybody tried flashing firmware's from different variant's of Optimus L9
the reason I am saying this is p760 will be unlocked in the next OTA update.
yes you heard it right p760's bootloader will be unlocked in the next update.
So I was thinking if p760's firmware is compatible with p765 or not ????
I think it would be worth to try flashing firmware of p760 on p765 !
they both are identical and the only difference between these phones is gorilla glass. IMO
I know it would be very risky. but it would be worth the risk.
It would be nice if two or more people could confirm that p760 firmware works on p765.

FLASHED P760V10G EUROPE on my Indian P765 with my usual Offline FOTA Flash method, flashed easily and smoothly. Obviously ROOT WAS LOST.
In first hour the phone is functioning great. Saw some improvements.
1) Noticeable more responsive screen
2) Faster and Smoother than before.
3) Data and Apps were not lost (after this Offline FOTA) so checked all options and apps, were seen working fine.
3) The most important thing is Outstanding Full Network. Was having 2/3 bars inside my home, now it FULLLLLLLLL
Though No Root and device is showing as "P760" in phone information (who cares), will use for 2/3 days for testing and will share some more finding. cya

Based on the confirmations should we think P760 firmware is indeed compatible with P765 !?
what do you guys think? Is it safe to flash P760 rom on P765 or not.

MG is unlocking the bootloader? Would you please share the source of the information you just gave?
You need to compare the two phones to the bone to see if there is any difference

go ahead then do it. you will brick your phone

Yeah you right, if we could somehow compare all the variants of L9 and make comparison/compatible chart for the ROMS that would be really helpful for the L9 community.
I wonder if there is way to try find whether the rom is compatible or not, something like RUN/debug the ROM on the device without flashing it. I wonder if it is possible to that.

It will not brick, I think it is quite possible , L9 is unbrickable as long as we have uboot omap4boot

OMG, you are really brave. I think you are the first person to try that. Are you sure all hardware and features working well. I will also give an immediate try.
Actually I do guinea pig myself and my L9 always, but this time just want to re-confirm for some more confidence.

The difference between p765 and p760 I think just in the NFC feature (cmiiw). I installed the firmware 10A Baltics only for downgrade from firmware 10C Indonesia. Since I can not downgrade to 10B Indonesia for the purpose of rooting, so I try to use p760 firmware 10A Baltics. And it worked. I am not really sure if "all" hardware and features working well since i use it only for couple of hours but phone, texting, data, wifi and tried some important setting were working fine.

Thats great! I am proud to see one more guinea pig like me. I recently tried using SmartFlash on L9 with some trial and error, which failed, but L9 not bricked.

wow, glad to hear it, data and apps will always be there after you update the fw using that method
My 765 running v10C screen is not so responsive, think I'll give 10G a try
Btw, 765 is flashable with 760 version and it works. I tried Europe version.
I've tested the stability etc etc
The only not working is the NFC and camera.
Dunno if the others have camera problem too like me, but it can be solved by using 3rd party camera apps like camera360 :good:
Now, I'm downloading the 10G and gonna give it a shoot on my 765 :fingers-crossed:

the problem is being worked on as we speak, mostly due to not having kdz files for that version of the L9. I use the same version too, most of the time, which is why i'm not doing much beyond rooting it and freezing the bloatware.

Use the KDZ for the Canadian P769:

If it works, you will loose wifi calling and any of the T-Mobile bloatware. I may be able to send you my kernel, wifi calling APKs, and T-Mobile bloatware.
Good luck.
Canadian p769 is your only option I've put in a request with the head of 4ext for a full recovery full setup for us then we can make a full backup and post it for others to use to get back to standerd T-Mobile firmware so til then do what is suggested

I am asking this because generally firmware by operators are locked for their own sims only.

Canadian V11a works great on T-mobile P769BK phone, I am on at&t SIM, work great on at&t than it on t-mobile.
Actually, it is very clean rom without any bloatware except default web page to Wind Mobile website.
only short-come is "not root-able" yet

So can be rooted or not be rooted? I am confused on that one. I figured the same method would work as the 10E. I am hoping this will let me get back use of my recovery on my P769BK for T-mobile US. After a failed OTA reboot to recovery either reboots phone or goes to dead android.

I am using the Canadian 11A on my US T-Mobile P789BK. It can not be rooted using any of the current methods.
The firmware itself is nice in that it is fast and pretty much bloat free. The little bit that is there can easily be disabled.
Everything works great including wifi hotspot and usb tether. I have been running it for a week now and so far I haven't run into any problems.
I hope someone can come up with a method to root it as I would love to have that option once again.
BTW:
I have used the KDZ offline method to install USA 10G and Canadian 11A and there is no problem going back and forth between the two at any time. Even all apps, wallpaper, data...etc. remain untouched. You would not even know that you switched except for the additional T-Mobile apps and the boot screens.

How can i do the hard reset?
WARNING: Do not flash P765 and P760 kdz/roms on P769 and P768. They wont work due to hardware differences.
P769 will end up with permanent touch issue and P768 will end up with dead camera issue (no idea if permanent or temporary).
Flash back to any old rootable KDZ for P768 and update to latest via OTA, if possible. Not guaranteed if camera will ever work or not. Whatever you do further more take necessary precaution and try to restore.
@thomasoeli, congrats for being guinea pig for all And finally it is confirmed that Camera dies after flashing P760 roms on P768. Rest of p768 pals, learn from this.

@amnik and @codearm2,
Both of you have P765, his problem with P768 is different than yours. Seems you have not noticed his variant and do not exactly know what has happened. Your innocent advices can mess his device further more. Dont make yourself responsible for more issues. Some P769 pals have damaged their touchscreen permanently with mirrored touchscreen issue coz they flashed P765 on P769.
Probably "thomasoeli" is the first person who flashed P760 on P768 till date. At least I dont remember anyone else who did that.

congratulations you can unlock your bootloader using JB firmware then return to v10x ics and still have unlocked bootloader. So doesnt matter if your camera didnt work on jb you can flash custom roms that recently came out as well as recoveries as long as if you have unlocked the bootloader during your time on JB.

You forgot to mention a person, who tried that first to be a guinea pig for P765, for all.
Then I flashed the original firmware, also stand in the top the bootloader is unlocked.
Is the boot loader after the complete downgrade still unlocked?
In which way can I root my P768 again? Is this still possible?
The versions confuse me somewhat.
One more question: Can I actually flash a one rooted firmware (ICS) for my P768? When it is available.
I thank you.

Good morning,
I did last night successfully created the bin file from my KDZ. Today evening I will probably flash the rom again and replace the bin file.
If everything works and the Rom is rooted, I'll put the BIN file for the P768 for all available.

Guide to use P765V10G Indian ICS Baseband on P760V20B EUROPEAN JB flashed on P765

==============================================
EDIT: FOUND A METHOD TO FLASH CHANGED BASEBAND ON ANY STOCK ROM (12-Apr-13) See this related thread for more information
==============================================
I have P765 Asian/Indian Edition of L9.
Checkout below how did I got Original Indian Baseband made for ICS working perfectly along with on European JELLYBEAN.
SITUATION:
I was on JellyBean P760V20B flashed on my P765 Indian L9 device. But as you all know, KDZ includes the BASEBAND too, that means when I flashed P760JB, the European Baseband was also flashed on my Indian Phone. This means I was using European Baseband on my Indian phone in Indian Region. Though, phone was working fine and network was ok but not as better as my previous V10G Indian KDZ ICS Rom. Randomly but rarely, I got my own annoying echo sound, while on voice calls. Call drops in elevators and deep section of my office.
WHAT I DID TO IMPROVE MY NETWORK?
1) Then someday (yesterday lolz) I got an idea. I took CWM BACKUP of my JB with app and data, on external sdcard.
2) Flashed back ICS P765V10G India KDZ, so I was back on my original Indian ROM with Indian Baseband and signal is again great in ICS. While flashing, i rooted it with Lelus method. But this is ICS and how can I stay without JB?
3) Then I started phone in CWM (non-touch) mode, wiped everything and RESTORED BACK CWM BACKUP OF JB, which was taken in first step.
FYI, CWM backup does not contain Baseband, hence can not flash BASEBAND. So this means only ROM is restored, and Indian Baseband from V10G remained in phone at its own reserved place.
4) OPTIONAL: Replaced "rild" file from P765 in "/system/bin/" folder. ATTACHED BELOW IN ZIPPED FORMAT. First take backup of current "rild" before replacing.
/system/lib/lge-ril.so
/system/bin/rild
/system/build.prop
RIL (Radio Interface Layer) file and BASEBAND should always match for 100% network performance on any Android devices. GETRIL application is made exactly for this purpose only. Since long time, I am trying hard to get GETRIL app support for our L9 devices also, by initiating direct interaction with developer.
(As mentioned before replacing RILD file is optional and do it only if you have bad/no network after baseband changed. If still does not work, flash your old KDZ and restore your cwm backup.)
I am again back on perfect Signal, Network, Calls, No echo. The difference is clearly visible in network and calls now no drops in elevators too like it was before.
EVERYTHING ABOVE IS TRICKY BUT VERY EASY TO PERFORM
Now in V20B JB, I see false entry in phone information that my phone is P760 and V20B Baseband, but when I tested it with GETRIL I found that I am on P765V10G Baseband. When I send email to GETRIL developers, it sends email with BASEBAND information as P765V10G. :good:
EDIT: Find some ril files from various roms here.
Hope this helps some of my P765 fellow I must be insane doing all this stuff. lolz

Yes that "rild" file is for hongkong P765 users. You can flash V10C KDZ made for HongKong and use this "rild" for last step.

I dont know how much battery drain will be reduced but the network will be superb. If you disable some BLOATWARE from Application Manager you will see some battery improvement.

You have P760 and european baseband must be matching perfect for you. So this is not required at all for you.
This workaround is recommended only if there is low performance in network radio of device, especially for P765 in other countries.

Will this trick work on normal P760 L9? Because i would like to switch to ICS baseband, because of weird wifi issues on V20B.

Should work. This is why I suggested to change back to baseband from your own region. You are nothing to loose here. Either it will work or won't.
Sent from P765 on JB.
Did exactly what you did but didn't work

4) Replaced "rild" file from P765 in "/system/bin/" folder. ATTACHED BELOW IN ZIPPED FORMAT. First take backup of current "rild" before replacing.
/system/bin/rild
RIL (Radio Interface Layer) file and BASEBAND should always match for 100% network performance on any Android devices. GETRIL application is made exactly for this purpose only. Since long time, I am trying hard to get GETRIL app support for our L9 devices also, by initiating direct interaction with developer.
:good:
Hope this helps some of my P765 fellow I must be insane doing all this stuff. lolz

Though network was lost, you should have powered off or rebooted 2 times and check again. sometimes network takes time for first time. But its possible that the attached RILD file is not matching with baseband you flashed.
CWM Restore was not necessary. You could only replace RILD file with your backup rild file.
Baseband and Rild results will be different in various countries and related to mobile carriers and their network profile.
Still this procedure is very safe and nothing serious issue is expected.
PS: Your id and profile does not state which country you are from? Please update at least your location in profile. What could be the reason you dont share it? Generally girls dont share it on net, lolz

A little bit of help needed. I downloaded the European Open version of Jellybean and Flashed it well with no problems but i am not able to unlock the bootloader. Everytime i try the phone gets rebooted nothing else.
I would like to know that which countries jellybean you tried before unlocking the bootloader. Please be specific in the country name for V20B.
I would appreciate your help.

If you ask this query in unlock bootloader thread you will get more hits, i mean replies. this is sort of off-topic here.

Updated link in Archive Page. I hope someone will make MIRROR of KDZ roms, we need mirrors for all KDZ.
@ALL please upload and share mirror links for all KDZ.
Some people already reported what in hidden menu on P765 with official V20B absend "Bootloader Unlock Check". So I've suspecting what in P765 oem-unlock won't work

so how it is smooth ? great ? bad ? how ? any new good apps? latest launcher? bloatwares?
Baseband should be different coz they release different BB for different regions. BB contains the Variant Name also like ... P765, it should be different than P760 though version number could be same.

Maybe, i compared versions: "L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1232.00", they identical...
What I've noticed - after flashing and factory reset - internal memory is about 2Gb free, compared to P760 where was about 1.6G
"adb reboot oem-unlock" brings my phone to fastboot.
I've flashed CWM, rebooted phone into recovery mode, flashed root.zip
So my P765 CIS V20B now have normal CWM and working root

I bought it :victory: and flashed p760 official jelly bean kdz . The camera does not work.
Are camera files/libs related to the kernel? I mean which part do I have to modify in order to get the camera working again?

No one seems to show any interest in fixing the camera problem on p768.:crying:
I think it's more about not having the phone. it seems a lot of the people who could possibly do it, they don't have the 768 so they don't have a need to do it.
