[Q] Gestures not registering consistently, particularly swipe down and swipe up - HTC Droid DNA

One of the first things I did when I got my Droid DNA was to install Apex Launcher, mainly because I wanted the gesture support for opening the notification drawer and the app drawer. I have swipe down set to open the notifications, so I don't have to reach all the way to the top. Problem is, sometimes I have to swipe several times or change the angle at which I am swiping in order for it to register. I have been in contact with HTC but we aren't getting anywhere.
I don't know if the issue is limited to Apex, or if other launchers have the same issue. I tried Nova, but apparently you need the premium version to unlock gestures.
My question is this: Does anybody else have issues with gestures using Apex or Nova (premium) Launchers?

Its something with apex. I just installed nova to test it our and it works flawlessly.

Well it could just be my phone, or it could be you haven't seen it YET. As I said, the issue was intermittent. Anyway, if you do keep one of those configurations, I would much appreciate it you would post back here again. Thanks for the help though meanwhile.

I did some more experimenting and I realized it may be limited to just after switching screens. If I swipe to the side to a different screen, then quickly swipe down or up before it has completely settled, then it won't go. If I keep swiping, it stays in "transition mode" and won't recognize the command of swiping down or up. The only way to stop it then, is to be a little slower to swipe, or to speed up the transition animation. Not sure why this never happened on my Thunderbolt though.

ics dialer

is it me or is the ICS dialer EXTREMELY laggy opening and the xt9 dialing is always being on dial presses. GB roms = click on dialer and instant opening, this one i have to wait up to 3/4 seconds.
Yes, I have also had some lag from opening up the ICS dialer. I use Apex launched and I set the double-tap gesture to open up the dialer and it is kind of slow. BTW, it's hilarious when you say 3/4 a second as if that was so slow haha. All joking aside I know what you mean though, it would be nice if it was instant.

he meant 3 to 4 seconds, not three-fourths of a second.
Same problem here started a couple days ago. Whats even slower is getting the call log to show up. That's takes another 1-2 seconds. Weird.

Seems like deleting call list fixes the lag for me, although i wish it never would show text in the CALL LOG! makes no sense and fills up way to earily for me

I really really hated this on my GS2 and was so pleased they stopped listing texts in the "call log" on stock Galaxy Note gb. Now it's back on the ICS ROM....
I have definitely noticed some serious lag all around in the phone app. Takes too long to load, favorites is laggy when loading up and it feels like forever waiting for the call ended screen to go away.
Thanks for the clear call log suggestion. Will
try this.
Update: app is a little more snappy after clearing call log. Favorites still a little laggy and call ended screen shows for way too long.

Yes it does make it a little faster. Something is def screwy with the phone apk as I even got it to fc by trying to add a favorite. Do launchers have anything to do with it? I'm on Apex as Nova gave me nothing but lag. Maybe I will try TW for the hell of it.

You can hide text messages from the call log by Menu --> View By --> All calls. It makes the call log come up instantly, but the dialer still takes 3-4 seconds to load.

Is that the launcher that CM team uses for CM9 ? If so that was a sweet launcher.
Edit: yup it is CM9 launcher. Loving it. Thanks
Right on, glad I could help
This is not good. I'm using stock GB and experiencing couple of second delay on dialer. I was really hoping ICS would fix this. I hate keep mentioning my iPhone experience but iPhone dialer was very fast and phone experience was much better overall...
Hi guys, give a try to Ray Dialer free app on market, seems to open very fast even if is not in memory , but leeks some functions like contacts, favotites and the option to add a new contact without having to call it.

Consistent Lag When Opening App Drawer

Sense 4.0 is smooth, but I've noticed that the app drawer consistently lags whenever I open it. The only time this doesn't occur is when I open it multiple times in succession. It happened on both stock and rooted roms, even with the dual core mod, power saver off, and charlmeleon Rom ultra smooth Rosie. It's annoying the crap out of me because the rest of the phone is so smooth.Has anyone else experienced this?

Weird..I have had mine now since late May and never any lag what so ever. But now I am running fresh 1.0 with Nova launcher, maybe try that setup, I have used the crap out of mine, running hard every day and never a hickup except for last weekend but that was due to east coast storm that knocked out the Telco.

try settings/developer options and uncheck animations
Yeah I've used apex launcher before, and there was no lag, but I want to have sense. I found a partial fix though. If you change the animation scale to .5x then opening the app drawer is a little more smooth. Hopefully jelly bean will fix this, but I don't plan on waiting for htc's ota update so it probably won't matter to me by then.

i noticed this when using chameleon as well...very frustrating. i also noticed a strange lag when opening settings and battery usage. i really liked the chameleon rom because of the options, but yesterday a mostly functional AOKP dropped and ive been using that its SO much better even underclocked to 1ghz.

sweet worked better for me also.. thanks manG!!!
:good:
I have a feeling it has to do with the CPU ramping up to par for the system to use it. I know someone said it still lags with dual core mods etc.etc. but isn't our phone running the ondemand governor by default? The CPU could be at 384 on the home screen and then shoot up to 1.5 during the little stutter moment of opening the app drawer. I could be way off on this but that's how I'm understanding it

Hmmm. Here's what I would try next, just for the hell of it: remove all of your icons from your dock and from your main home screen. Change your wallpaper to something else stock. Reboot. Put one normal, everyday (like the phone dialer or people, etc) icon/shortcut - not a widget - in your dock. Reboot. Check lockscreen. See your shortcut?
HTH!
Try going to personalize under settings and go to lock screen. There should be options for different lock screen options.

What did you install before this happened? You said you are stock, but are you rooted? Delete anything? This wouldn't just disappear without either clicking that setting off, or deleting something you shouldn't have.
I know you said stock... but did you install a different launch.. ie Nova, Apex... etc. and stop/freeze sense. When i did that i lost the lockscreen apps. Kinda sucks but sense needs to be running to have those, regardless of using it or not.... Good luck

Don't disable Sense. As far as enabling it to change the dock, just go into Nova settings and use the "Default launcher" button towards the bottom. Go to Sense, "Just Once" and set your dock. Hit the Home button and click Nova, "Always". Done.

Force GPU render, where is it?

I know I saw it somewhere in here but can't find the message again. Where is this option, and the rest of the dev options?
Assuming your developer options are still hidden. Go to about phone and tap build number repeatedly until it says it has unlocked developer options. Then you should see that in settings and your force gpu is there.

Not at all, the S4 does not lag one bit. I would NEVER recommend enabling it, it comes disabled stock for a reason.
People claim to experience "laginess", but this is perceived due to having a 3rd party launcher. Install ANY launcher and look at the delay between tapping an icon and the app actually opening. On the stock launcher, it is INSTANT. Don't know how I managed to go off topic but hope I answered your question.

This, I use to be a big supporter of a popular launcher but I realized that there is almost always going to be lag with them. Its better to find an awesome ROM and go stock imo.
On the topic of gaming, not all emulators are the same.. I use to use a paid PSX emulator but had to switch to a new Gmail so I had to start over and was using a free PSX emu. While I finally got my S4 2.0 MHL adaptor in from Samsung and was gaming. I see that the performance is a bit laggy and slow (40-43fps). Having done my research and knowing that its not the phone's fault or the adapter, I conclude that its the app so I buy the paid app I use to use (FPse) and boom, 59-60fps consistently

Those with screen swipe effect lag

We already have a few threads on this issue but I believe I finally resolved my lagging issues by going under the display settings then home screen and changed the "screen swipe effect" to layer or just change yours to a different one from the one you currently have and see if that resolved your lagging issue.
Report back with your results because my results have been positive so far, I'm going on two hours and no lag.

nope. the lag people are reporting is REDRAWING for the most part, which can't be resolved by changing the swipe effect. it's a memory issue.
