Force GPU render, where is it? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I know I saw it somewhere in here but can't find the message again. Where is this option, and the rest of the dev options?

Assuming your developer options are still hidden. Go to about phone and tap build number repeatedly until it says it has unlocked developer options. Then you should see that in settings and your force gpu is there.

Thanks, I knew it was something weird like that.

What do we gain by using force gpu rendering?

Not unless your running some app that hasn't been updated since ICS and want to eek some more performance out of it. (Like genie widget... Which breaks)

Not at all, the S4 does not lag one bit. I would NEVER recommend enabling it, it comes disabled stock for a reason.
People claim to experience "laginess", but this is perceived due to having a 3rd party launcher. Install ANY launcher and look at the delay between tapping an icon and the app actually opening. On the stock launcher, it is INSTANT. Don't know how I managed to go off topic but hope I answered your question.

This, I use to be a big supporter of a popular launcher but I realized that there is almost always going to be lag with them. Its better to find an awesome ROM and go stock imo.
On the topic of gaming, not all emulators are the same.. I use to use a paid PSX emulator but had to switch to a new Gmail so I had to start over and was using a free PSX emu. While I finally got my S4 2.0 MHL adaptor in from Samsung and was gaming. I see that the performance is a bit laggy and slow (40-43fps). Having done my research and knowing that its not the phone's fault or the adapter, I conclude that its the app so I buy the paid app I use to use (FPse) and boom, 59-60fps consistently

Why the phone is so damn slow?

Hi
Im just wondering...how come such a powerfull phone
Cannot "multi task" with live wallpaper..
When i put LWP the phone become very slow and laggy.
I have here galaxy s and he doing fine with heavy multi task and LWP
As well.
Even with another launchers the problem remains.
does anyone else having the same problem?

Nope, I run an lwp ..several ones actually. I jump between xda, twitter, facebook, gplus, gmail, corp email and browser all day long and don't have any issues with slow downs. In fact the only time I have ever seen this phone slow down is with the keyboard on occasion in landscape mode.
What lwp are you using. Could just be a crappy coder.

Either the people in this thread don't know what silky smooth is or their phones are better than ours for some reason. But the display at the sprint store dis the same thing. The stock launcher is already laggy as hell so a lwp makes it non issue on stock launcher. But on any other launcher, there are issues.
My EVO 3d was the same way. Pure vanilla phones seem to do better with lwp...like the LG g2x and nexus s

I'm running launcher pro, stock rom, rooted with some build.prop tweaks and I have the same laggy opening of the app drawer. I never contributed it to lwp. After a quick test its only laggy with lwp as the op said. Its not terrible but its not silky smooth either. Everything else is fine.

Here's a tip: STOP USING LIVE WALLPAPERS THEY KILL YOUR BATTERY. Also LWP shouldnt slow your phone down if anything it should be faster since lwp keep your cpu clock speed a bit higher.

Anything that requires resources and CPU cycles should slow things down. Albeit how much depends on many factors. Video based apps like live wallpaper especially could be resource intensive.

Dont you mean lower? Higher, in theory, would make it slower because it needs that power to multi-task for whatever reason? But then again, some of my servers run well over 200% and no one complains? Oh well............

I mean live wallpapers keep the cpu active, you fire up the screen so its already faster than the phone with regular wallpaper because it needs to continuously keep the lwp going? Idk maybe im seeing this wrong......seems like the phone using lwp should be more responsive and able to multitask over the phone with regular wallpaper since the cores have to fire up upon the screen wake.

Consistent Lag When Opening App Drawer

Sense 4.0 is smooth, but I've noticed that the app drawer consistently lags whenever I open it. The only time this doesn't occur is when I open it multiple times in succession. It happened on both stock and rooted roms, even with the dual core mod, power saver off, and charlmeleon Rom ultra smooth Rosie. It's annoying the crap out of me because the rest of the phone is so smooth.Has anyone else experienced this?

Weird..I have had mine now since late May and never any lag what so ever. Yeah I've used apex launcher before, and there was no lag, but I want to have sense. I found a partial fix though. If you change the animation scale to .5x then opening the app drawer is a little more smooth. Hopefully jelly bean will fix this, but I don't plan on waiting for htc's ota update so it probably won't matter to me by then.

sweet worked better for me also.. thanks manG!!!
:good:
I have a feeling it has to do with the CPU ramping up to par for the system to use it. I know someone said it still lags with dual core mods etc.etc. but isn't our phone running the ondemand governor by default? The CPU could be at 384 on the home screen and then shoot up to 1.5 during the little stutter moment of opening the app drawer. I could be way off on this but that's how I'm understanding it

[Q] Gestures not registering consistently, particularly swipe down and swipe up

One of the first things I did when I got my Droid DNA was to install Apex Launcher, mainly because I wanted the gesture support for opening the notification drawer and the app drawer. I have swipe down set to open the notifications, so I don't have to reach all the way to the top. Problem is, sometimes I have to swipe several times or change the angle at which I am swiping in order for it to register. I have been in contact with HTC but we aren't getting anywhere.
I don't know if the issue is limited to Apex, or if other launchers have the same issue. I tried Nova, but apparently you need the premium version to unlock gestures.
My question is this: Does anybody else have issues with gestures using Apex or Nova (premium) Launchers?
Its something with apex. I just installed nova to test it our and it works flawlessly.

Well it could just be my phone, or it could be you haven't seen it YET. As I said, the issue was intermittent. Anyway, if you do keep one of those configurations, I would much appreciate it you would post back here again. Thanks for the help though meanwhile.
I did some more experimenting and I realized it may be limited to just after switching screens. If I swipe to the side to a different screen, then quickly swipe down or up before it has completely settled, then it won't go. If I keep swiping, it stays in "transition mode" and won't recognize the command of swiping down or up. The only way to stop it then, is to be a little slower to swipe, or to speed up the transition animation. Not sure why this never happened on my Thunderbolt though.

Is there a way to make a widget persistent?

Is there any way to make a selective widget, like the DuckDuckGo widget, persistent in the place of the Google search widget? I ask this because the Google search widget that is persistent doesn't take up a complete grid like it would if I was to add the DuckDuckGo widget to every page at the top.
Adding the DuckDuckGo widget drops everything down much further, even with another grid space added on Nova, than just having the persistent widget does.
I saw with Lightning Laughed you could "pin" a widget in place and it is almost like using a persistent widget, in that it stays in the same place as you scroll through homescreens, but its still very very different. I have also seen Overlays but that is completely different as well.
So is there any way to modify Nova, and of the other launchers, or a ROM to use the DuckDuckGo widget as persistent instead of the Google search bar?

Not at all, the ssLauncher Dev has no idea what I a, talking about, he doesn't speak English as his first language so its extremely hard for me to explain things to him. I eventually gave up.
I've heard that the Dev responsible for Action Launcher adds just about anything his users ask for so I am going to email him later today and see if he can and would add that. Ive been trying to figure this out for quite a while and no one knows anything about it and the few that do, I've found 2 people who supposedly know, don't want to explain what edits need to be made.

Lightning Launcher recommendation

I haven't seen anyone talk about this launcher, but it is awesome. Yes, you have to pay for it, but with the amount of customizations available it's well worth it. I know I'm a newb around here, and this post may not be taken seriously, but I thought I'd try to get a great dev paid to keep up such great work. Best feature that I've been looking for for over a year is being able to put widgets inside a folder on your home screen.
And that's my 2 cents. Please don't be too harsh, remember I'm a newb around here.

This is the "Tasker" of launchers. It's incredibly powerful & customizable. Just a bit of a learning curve. But much like with Tasker, once you do a few things, the rest gets a lot easier to figure out.
I actually got frustrated the first time I tried the free Lightning Launcher. And gave up on it the first day.
Read your thread and got the ambition to try it out again.
Really glad I did.
Nova Prime has been outstanding for me, but I was missing some customization options and Nova Prime developer team has not responded to my inquiries. So I'm going to double-down and watch a couple Lightning Launcher videos and figure it out.
I really, really like that it lets you have multiple home screen/profile setups. So if I'm right, I can pull up a different homescreen setup for each Tasker profile I have set up.
Also, there are profile/themes you can download from Play Store that give you some pre-arranged fancy-ass customization. Just to get you started.

Not for the faint of heart...
I love Lightning Launcher and can't say I did the first 5 times I tried it. At first, it is very intimidating for those that are used to the normal/simple way of laying out your homescreen/desktop. I have tried pretty much every launcher out there and love the benefits everyone provides, but have to admit, they are all essentially the same ole desktop, offering nothing truly innovative.
If you want to see the power of LLX, are worried about bugs and improvements, check the Google plus community: https://plus.google.com/115359051724948606262/
Again, this is only for those experienced enough that want something absolutely unique. If you are content with basic folders, simply swiping left/right and having the normal desktop setup this wont be for you. If you actually want freedom to make your desktop look the way you want, give LL a try.

I haven't had any problems with it at all. The customization is still amazing, and everyone in the g+ forum is nice and helpful.
