anyway that aside, now its cleared up , can someone help me gettingthe right stuff to flash custom roms/firm ?, i hope i still can post here since its still a question, if i do it wrong tell me

You'll need to root your phone to be able to flash custom ROMs via Recovery, you can also install kernel such as Perseus or Siyah which allows you to overclock

[Q] A little help please

Okay, I got my SGS2 a few days ago and have done CF root, but I am a little confused in regards to the different kernals.
Mine has the KE2 but what would happen if I used a different one like KF1?
Would just like to clear that up as I would like to try and flash a different rom and there doesn't seem to be that many that work with the KE2?
Would it hurt to flash a new rom that was designed for the KF1?
Cheers for any help in advance.
Pete
PS Sorry guys I just posted this in the wrong place. will re-post in the Q&A Section
Just flash the rom your going to use and follow the roms guidelines reffering to kernals..
If its a kf1 rom use kf1 kernal..just so everything is running good.

This is in the Q & A section. I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm being ****, but I was only asking for a suggestion as in "has someone used a rom that they think is good and works well?"
Cant people ask a question anymore without someone jumping down they're throat.

help please

ok well this is my first time trying to put install a custom rom on my phone but i just have a few questions. i have read all the stickies already but just need a little clarification. i havent quite decided on a rom yet but i know i want to try the siyah kernel. Do i install it through mobile odin?? and then do i do the same for the rom on my choosing?? im already rooted. and depending on the rom i choose, do i have to be on a specific firmware like on 2.3.4 or 2.3.6?? do i have to flash using mobile odin or cwm. i dont want to trip the flash counter. and last question i think, how do i get cwm, or is it already in the phone
First, please use more descriptive thread titles so people that actually search can find relevant info. This title is useless.
Second, all you asked about is covered in the FAQ and various stickies. You obviously did not read the one about not tripping the counter or you wouldn't have asked. CWM is included in almost every custom ROM and kernel. Reading would have told you that. I suggest you go back, read and forget flashing until you completely understand what you are doing. We are not here to bail you out of mistakes you make from not reading and understanding.
thats exactly why im asking. before i make a mistake

Don't ask, read. This is a self-service forum, not the Help Desk. No one in here is paid to give answers, that's why you need to find them for yourself and only ask when it is absolutely necessary. At this point, for you, it isn't as the answers are already here if you take the time to look.
then there wouldnt be a q&a section in the forum.

The existence of Q&A does not relieve you of following forum rules, which clearly state not to start new threads without first searching and reading the stickies. This is common understanding for almost all internet forums and something you agreed to when you joined XDA. Q&A is for the rare item not covered in the FAQ or stickies or found by doing a search. Your questions do not qualify.

Firstly you probably want a kernel with CWM. Siyah & Entropy both have that. Flash it in Odin (This you will have to look at stickies for) and you will gain root/cwm. Then choose a rom that is safe, I would say anything in the dev section that says 2.3.4-2.3.6. You don't have to match your version to the ROM. With the zip you download, enter CWM mode (look at stickies) and flashing it in there. You will now have whatever kernel they use with that ROM.
Want more info? Look in the stickies

I believe this thread has run its course....
As stated.. you can post in boards, but you only should do so AFTER searching/reading existing posts to see if your question is answered. There is no reason to make a whole new thread when there are plenty of guides and stickies out there with great info...

difference between android development and original development is simple. android development is roms basically with a slap on theme on it and original is well original.
read this thread here for better explanation between the two
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175660
as regarding unlocking bootloaders you do not have to as it is already unlocked..all you have to do is flash a cf-root kernel from chainfires thread.
here are links to help you better
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
above link is the chainfire thread to root and the bottom link read that first to get a better feel of rooting

[Q] Anyway to make a backup of the rooted rom?

Now that we have a custom/rooted room available, is there anyway I can make a backup of it? I understand we can't have recovery firmware yet, but what about using the odin tool for backing up, is that possible?

Yes, I'm going to be trading my phone in for a grey one, and I've already done a lot of customization work that I'd like to not have to repeat... It's be nice if I could just image it to a new phone.

Nandroid of stock 4.1.1

Does anyone have a ROM or Nandroid backup of a stock TW ROM?
I lost mine in an SD crash.
Thanks in advance.
Why not just download the odin download that imnuts posted in the android dev section? It's stock 4.1.1

I should have said a "Stock rooted TW ROM"
And I'll look at that thanks.
It would be better to just flash back to stock and get it that way. Everyones phone is different and it would definitely be a bad idea to flash someone elses nandroid. I still have my TW backup for my Note 2, but on my GS3 when I lost it it didnt really matter. If I had issues it was easy to use odin to flash back to stock and then use Tibu to reinstall my apps.

My apologies. I've been active on 3 or 4 forums at once lately and made a mistake, thank you very much for correcting it for me. :good:
Flash the stock package and then root it? Since it is the older pre-exploit patch firmware, you could even use one of the exynos abuse root methods.
