How to disable OTA Update Notification for Root users? - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

I can't seem to find which program to freeze in Titanium Backup. Any ideas out there?
Have any 10e root users accepted the update? Do you lose root even with Voodoo Keeper?
Thanks!

You can try freezing 'lgfotapermission' app using Titanium Back up. It's just my guess. No guarantees. YMMV.

Mine is frozen and no updates yet. Just make up your mind before the phone gets updated automatically.

Ok - thanks. Can you always unfreeze applications without any harm? Not to nag, but curious how you decided on that file? Google search on that name, turns up nothing.

Actually looking thru the backup/restore column in titanium backup I don't see that app anywhere. Only LG prefixed app's I see are as follows:
LG Keyboard...
LG MLT 2.3.8
LGinstallservice 1.3.11 (Perhaps this could be it??)
LGSetupWizard 4.3.013
LGSystemServer 1.0

Thanks - I found it, and froze it, however I'm still getting the notification. Even after reset. Odd.

I believe the update check code is embedded into the settings apk. It will need to be re-compiled to prevent this.
If we knew what URL the device is getting its updates from we can block it with a hosts entry.

I found some info here on disabling the update notification for anyone who is still interested.

It looks like you need to freeze these two apps in Titanium Backup:
com.lge.lgfota.permission
com.lge.omadmclient

V10C P765 Rooted
I simply unchecked following option and I think it stops future OTA Notification.
Settings >>> About Phone >>> Software Update >>> Check Automatically (Uncheck this)
May be I am wrong, may be you pals are talking something else..

Doesn't seem to work as update notification is still popping up on my P769.

This is how I stoped my phone from updateing and nagging. ( Must be rooted )
1. Download and install ( system tuner apk from playstore )
2. Launch system tuner and choose ( system with the red icon )
3. Choose (Google services framework ) and hit (details)
4. Scroll down to services and uncheck ( update.systemUpdateService
Thats all.
Hit thanks if it helped.

While I can't vouch for anything else besides the P675 10e Tmobile version, the following method will stop the update prompts. It *should* work on all ICS and JB devices, including Nexus.
0. Root, if you haven't already.
1. Download AutoRun Manager
2. In ARM, choose "Advanced"
3. Touch the wrench icon, and check
- Show System Entries
- Enable System Application Disable
4. Back on the application list, tap the refresh (circle arrow) icon if you don't see system apps. They should have a red background.
5. Find the app Google System Framework (aka: GSF) and tap it.
6. Uncheck the "com.google.<something>.gsf.update.SystemUpdate" receivers. I can't read my own handwriting at the moment, but they both end in SystemUpdate.
Am I the only one who definitely DONOT hit thanks when I see this line "Hit thanks if it helped"?

Thread cleaned. I don't see the reason of this whole argue you had. If someone wants to post hit thanks, let it be. It's definitely not worthy to be discussed. Now you should both excuse each other for jumping the guns for nothing.
I really hope you will.

This caused a permanent wakelock on SystemUpdateService on my LG Optimus P769, so my phone never went to sleep mode. I even rebooted several times, and checked over several days. As soon as I re-enabled update.systemUpdateService, the phone was able to sleep again. It did seem to prevent the OTA popup from re-appearing, but at a cost of battery life.

Well I used Titanium backup to freeze com.lge.lgfota.permission and I used root explorer to change the lgfota.apk in \system\app folder to lgfota.bak and reboot.

[Q] Rooters, how do you stop ota notifications (P769)

Rooted, but constantly getting the system update (already downloaded) notifications .
Methods I found from search and did not work:
- Renamed and moved otacerts.zip.
- Deleted the ota update from Cache
Have not yet attempted:
- Accept the update, which will supposedly fail due to the missing files, thus stopping the update, and the notification.
Before I resort to making that leap, what did you guys do to stop it?
Thanks a bunch!

Wish I had know about that, mistakenly updated to 10g and lost root
Here's my dilemma. I had been getting tired of the notification. So I let it do it's thing. Upon reboot it gave me the Triangle Android boot screen. Nothing was installed. After a battery pull it started up fine. Now I don't have a recovery. I had CWM installed with the old Prada apk. I tried using the install again. Reboot to recovery just reboots phone. Any advice?
Getting frustrated with the ota 10g popping up. I am rooted and have voodoo root keeper. Update wont go through. Freezes with red triangle. Tried unrooting with voodoo and disabling su. Nothing seems to work. Anybody know how I can get this to either update or disable 10g notifications? I have titanium but not sure what to freeze.

All I had to do was watch it fail once and then the notification went away, but I have heard that if that does not stop the stupid update notices you can go into /cache and find the 28 or so mb file for the update (it has a fairly distinctive name), copy the filename, delete the file, and create an empty file, then paste that name you copied from the real update as the name for the blank file. Then, when your favorite little notification pops up, press install now and watch the red triange pop up. Now, just hold power button until it powers off, then turn it on, and alakazam, no more update irritation. Also, one reason the update sometimes doesn't go through is if you have deleted any of T-Mobile's bloatware. If you do want the update to install, your best hope for restoring the bloatware is in this thread HERE. Good Luck!

6. Uncheck the "com.google.<something>.gsf.update.SystemUpdate" receivers. I can't read my own handwriting at the moment, but they both end in SystemUpdate.
And there you go. I've been update free for at least 18 hours, and it's persisted through reboots. The receivers have yet to start back up.
Most ICS and JB devices should receive update notifications via the Google Services Framework, not the manufacturer's update applications. The manufacturer might have their own update procedures/apps/scripts once the update is downloaded and ready to install, but the notifications should all be handled by the GSF.
Personally, I tried freezing and even deleting all LGE update related apps (omadmclient [or whatever it's called], fota [several variants], and more), deleting the downloaded update, deleting the SSL certs, and even using a pm command in a shell script that ran every 5 minutes to kill all LGE update related modules. Nada. The only thing that worked was the above method.
I've also heard -- what DatNexus mentioned -- accepting the udpate then hard rebooting works, too. But it's not as universal (my Nexus 7 still kept prompting me, for example) and there's always a chance that accepting an update later on will brick or otherwise damage the file system rather than just fail outright.

How to disable OTA Downloads Verizon (vs985)

I found a useful trick to keep the ota from showing up, if you enter ##3328873 in tge dialer pad and enter 000000 for the service code you then can uncheck the ota-dm mode this should prevent any ota
Alternatively, you can simply freeze the System Updates process via Titanium Backup, as discussed in the Bloatware thread.

Thanks for the information. Verizon began pushing an OTA to my LG G3 today. It was very annoying, thanks again!
Thank you, but it seems I'm too late.
Now, event though I've unchecked it, I keep getting a menu to do an update. I keep pressing back to get out of the update now or schedule an update later, but I can't seem to get it to go away, Gonna try the titanium update freeze of the updater.
Disabling the System Updates apk also works.

Alternatively you can do what OP said since its easier and requires no third party apps or root. But hey, cool story bro.
Thank you. This method works. I tried the other two and they didn't work. The "hidden menu" version came up with a different menu than in the description and TiBU didn't stop the notifications (for me). First I tried moving the update files to a new directory I created, but the update message had already been triggered.
If you pull down the notifications and long-press on the OTA, you can disable the app and remove the icon from the screen.

Afterwards, delete any files in root/cache/fota.

If you've already got root...which most people who are trying to stop OTAs have because they're wanting to keep root...why would you not simply freeze the process while you're going about the task of freezing all the bloat from Verizon? To me, that's easier as it allows a single action to restore everything back to stock settings (plus root and Bump) instead of having to use multiple methods to get back to such a state. But to each their own. I understand that some people like having their mobile OS weighed down from carrier installed garbage. Regardless, what kind of person knocks someone else for daring to add to the discussion with another method that, for many (especially those eventually wanting to flash ROMS), streamlines everything?
What are the exact names of the OTA apks? I looked in system/app and system/priv-apps.. Nothing really reads as system Ota or Ota something. Maybe I missed it. I would like to rename them manually.
Edit: is it LGFOTA.apk and its odex file?
Edit: ok thats not it update popped up after reboot. I now think its LGDMSClient.apk

I'll Add Some Of My Findings Here As Well...
Camera sounds annoy me and I couldn't find any tweak, app, or anything to disable them on the LG's Camera, so I figured it out myself. I have wrote a guide and included a .zip with the files you need to switch.
- How to disable your LG Camera Sounds -
Found by high247 of XDA-Developers for the Virgin Mobile LG Tribute LG660.
-# 01. You are going to need to be ROOTED on your phone and have a Root Explorer. I personally use Root Browser from the Play Store.
And you'll need the .ogg files from this .zip file.
I've you are not ROOTED please check Unjustified Dev's guide here on how to do so.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
-# 02. First move the .ogg files from this .zip to your phones SDcard.
cam_snap_0.ogg
camera_click.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
(I've included backups of all the orginal .ogg's in Backup-ogg in the .zip. Just delete the .bak off the end and they are the orginal files in case you want to switch back.)
-# 03. Ok now on to disableing the sounds on your phones Camera (For whatever reasons you might what to do so. For me, they just annoy me)
Open your Root Explorer and go to your SDcard and multi-copy the .ogg's you put there.
Now navigate to System folder, click that,
now locate the Media folder, click that,
now locate the Audio folder, click that,
now locate the UI folder, click that, then once inside the UI folder click PASTE to copy the files there. It might be useful to delete the old ones before hand.
-# 04. Almost done, now you have to change the to .ogg file permissions to 0644 rw-r--r--
(If your not good with permissions, when you select permissions just make sure Read is checked in every box and Write is only checked on Owner, everything else unchecked.)
-# 05. ALL DONE. No need to reboot or anything, just go to your Camera and see that the annoying sounds are gone.
ENJOY!

I got the update for my Tribute and like a idiot I tried to install it but it just keeps booting into TWRP, I wiped the phone and than I restored a backup from my SD card that I had but it still reboots to TWRP, the backup installed successfully but it just keeps booting to TWRP, any ideas how to fix this? The backup has the TWRP recovery and root. I also tied the new rom and it still boots to TWRP.
What to Change that ugly color on your default LG Messaging App?
You need to install Xposed Framework on your rooted LS660/F60
1. Here is the Xposed Framework installer you need for G3 Tweakbox to work: http://dl.xposed.info/latest.apk
2. Now download G3 Tweakbox from the Play Store and install it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...weaksbox&hl=en
3. Open Xposed Framework installer make sure the Xposed Framework is installed up to date and and then make sure you check the module for G3 Tweakbox and reboot your device before anything will work.
4. Now open G3 Tweakbox app, go to Messaging, scroll all the way to the bottom and you can change the color.
5. After you make changes Reboot your phone for them to take full effect. My messaging app now is Black.
And in this post I show what else I found that worked with G3 Tweakbox on the LS660, even some pictures : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59451127&postcount=766
NOTE: Not all tweak work. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You were on ZV4 right? I believe you have to flash the boot.img for ZV4 from TWRP and that will fix it. You might have to flash from fastboot though I forget, its almost 3am here and its been a long day.
Extract the boot.img from this .zip and try that.
Ok so for whatever reason I just could not get the damn OTA updates to stop re-downloading, even after doing what cpshelley2 said to do. My problem was update.zip kept re-downloading to /cache/ and then the notification would pop up to install. I ran the adb command cpshelley2 suggested and turned OTA off, made sure the update.zip was deleted, long pressed the notification clicked app info went to manager cleared all.
And it would just keep downloading over and over again, giving me the notification to install over and over again, so what I found was apps named Disable Service and Autorun Manager on the play store, they are free and for root, that fixed this for me.
DisableSevice Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice&hl=en
AutorunManager Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun&hl=en
**WARNING DO BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE CHECKING AND UNCHECKING IN THESE PROGRAMS YOU COULD MESS SOMETHING UP!***
Open the Disable Services app, click where it says System near the top, then scroll down to Google Play services, click it, now scroll down almost all the way near the bottom and find SystemUpdateService then uncheck it will turn red.
Now open Autorun Manager and select Advance Mode, then in the top right click Settings, make sure Show System Entries and Enable System App Disable are both Checked, now find Google Play Services, click it to see a list of receivers, scroll down til you find com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$ActiveReceiver and com.google.android.gms.update.SystemUpdateService$SecertCodeReceiver ,then un-check them.
Now your done.
Reboot phone and update.zip will stop downloading in /cache/ (**delete it one last time if it is there still**) and you will stop being notified about the ZV5 update.
Hope that helps someone else too. Any questions feel free to ask and remember I'm on the LG LS660 Virgin Mobile.

How to Access the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, No Root Needed.
Download Activity Launcher from the play store.
Open Activity Launcher and at the top click on Recent Activities at the top and switch it to All Activities... Once you did that scroll all the way down the list to Software Updates and click on it... A list will appear showing all the activities it does... Scroll down to Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu, there are 3 you can access though 4 say Sprint OMADMA Hidden Menu.
One will let you change the carrier branding.
Hope that helps you and let us know what happens if you try it please.
NOTE: You can Edit Chameleon Node options in the Sprint OMADM Hidden Menu com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenu such as "Brand Name" in Edit Chameleon Node... Click it... Then click GET... If you have Virgin Mobile that should pop up under Brand Name... Click it and edit to say what you want... Then click SET and reboot phone to take effect.
CHANGE SETTINGS ATE YOUR OWN RISK AND NEVER FACTORY RESET OUTSIDE OF YOUR DEFAULT BRANDING OPTION.
And that my friends is mostly what I have found so far for our phones that are useful.

Is there a working custom rom yet? I would love to get rid of the LG's default version and try CM12.

It is being tested by people and worked on by awesome @Unjustified Dev at this time. It is not being rushed and worked on to perfection. Make sure if you can donate to that man for his hard work and dedication!

Ok thanks. Is there any difference between the recovery_bumped.img you posted and the recovery.img I linked to?
No difference just uploaded nice to my dropbox.
Edit: Just use my dropbox one I know it works. Im still using my phone lol.

You were on ZV4 right? I believe you have to flash the boot.img for ZV4 from TWRP and that will fix it. You might have to flash from fastboot though I forget, its almost 3am here and its been a long day.
Extract the boot.img from this .zip and try that.

I flashed it via TWRP and it did not work.

[Tip] Removing Stock Bloatware

I've been using the Stock Odexed Version of OC1. Below I've listed the packages I've removed using Titanium Backup. The goal was to still use My Verizon Mobile to check data usage without having to login but remove junk that I don't need.
The list below was compiled by trial and error. But by all means is not a all inclusive list of things to remove. I'm sure there is more and some maybe extra.
Proceed at your own risk
Please let me know if you have any thoughts or change to this list, I can try to make updates to them as needed.
To import this into Titanium Backup and easily Freeze/Uninstall these try the following:
Copy the whole list.
Once copied, to go TB and click on the filter at the top.
Click "CREATE LABEL..."
Then click "ADD/REMOVE ELEMENTS..."
Cick "IMPORT (FROM CLIPBOARD)"
To Freeze or Uninstall:
Click the filter up top
Click the Label you just made and filter on that label by click the check up top
[*]Make sure the filter is applied
Click the menu button
"Batch actions..."
Go down to the setting you want to implement (Uninstall or Freeze)
[*]Make sure the numbers of apps being uninstalled or frozen are right (129 if you are just using this list)
Click Run and hold on to your horse
There will be a few force closes, but I haven't experienced any force closes after the phone has rebooted.

Finally the Verizon/Samsung Bloat is gone!
This worked great! Thank you so much.
This took less than 5 minutes and now Titanium Backup states I have ~1.35 GB free under System ROM. I rebooted after running the filter and ran SDMaid to clean up.
I should have kept the Amazon App store (easily re-installed) but Amazon made me re-download ~12 of the apps that were obtained from the Amazon App store.
Also, this filter removed Samsung Keyboard so there was no keyboard. May be due to my prior removal of the Swipe app. Had to re-install a keyboard.
Thanks for doing the legwork on this! I'll be cherry picking from this list since I still use a few of the apps included. Sure does cut out a lot of guess work though! :good:
Any issues with screen rotation? On a 4.x ROM I removed a bunch of bloat and screen rotation stopped working. I found a tip to reinstall Samsung Hub to fix screen rotation. Reinstalled Hub, and rotation started working again.
Thanks for the list and instructions.

This worked great for my S5. The only issue I had was that it deleted the Samsung My Apps file explorer app., as unfortunately, this is the app that enables you to save defaults to save to the external card. So I downloaded the stock My Files APK, install it, and it force crashes. As I am about to run this script on my S4, which one should I remove from the script to leave My Files in tact? I'm assuming that would be com.sec.android.app.myfiles? Thanks for this awesome debloating shortcut!

When you import it, you can uncheck any apps you wanna keep before you add it to the filter.
You can also download other file explorers. I prefer es file explorer.
Best of luck.

Thank you. I actually ran a batch file for my S5 which is in a different thread. Today I tried this with my S4 and followed your advice on how to do it with Titanium Backup on a fresh 5.0.1 rooted install. There were a lot of force closes, so I rebooted and now it's been over 20 minutes with the phone hung on the orange verizon screen. It looks like I will have to go back to 4.2.2 then root and get back to 5.0.1, so does anyone else try this list to try with lolipop? Is there a different list to use for 5.0.1? Thanks!

Good thought - that may make a difference. Of course, I may have just screwed it up, as I never used TiBu for this purpose previously. But I definitely had to go back to 4.2.2 and upgrade back into 5.0.1 to correct it. Then I ran a script designed for an S 5 found here. I removed certain application like MyFiles and the Internet Browser. It told me that it couldn't find certain programs (which make sense as it is for an S5), but it did debloat the S 4 nicely. It has been running smoothly ever since.
Ed Janx
There are other apps
You may also want to try using 3C toolbox-formerly known as Android Tuner. It does virtually the same thing and has a slightly more detailed UI when it comes to application management. I use it for freezing/uninstalling bloatware. I still really like TiBu though. It gets the job done more efficiently depending on what the given task is.
Does this list disable anything important? I see .android.mms is that the default mms app?
I rooted my gs4 I545 lollipop 5.0.1 and uninstalled the activating agent and i was unknown of the fact if i format it it will cause problem "please wait while we prepare your phone" and stucked in setup wizard ,i suspect removing the activation agent from phone is the reason"please wait while we prepare your phone" any with this problem and please help me with this matter.
I'm stuck at the verizon screen now

[MOD][Debloat | Black Google bootanimation] Taintless

Going to try and keep this short, sweet, and to the point.
I modified and created a zip for personal use all the way back to my Nexus 5 days and through my N5X use. I like my ROMs extremely minimal. Removal of media files and applications that I didn't deem necessary to have. Even went as far and told the script to remove the stock launcher and replace it with Nova. This little guy worked wonders for me and saved me loads of time. My app drawer (on initial start up) only consisted of the essentials; phone, contacts, messaging, a file manager, and Google Play. Only leaving the rest to be downloaded as needed.
----------------
Since ROMs aren't abundant yet, I'm deciding to share my zip to those who actually want to remove system apps and not settle on them just being disabled. Also, to keep from going into a file manager after every OTA/update removing each app individually.
-----------------
Had to modify this little guy to work on our phones.. It took me a bit to figure out (of course, right? Nothing is 'straight forward' with these phones )
-----------------
1.) I use this for personal use but did take some consideration in other users so majority of what I don't use is still there, this list would be a lot longer (and yes, some apps are for my older phones and didn't feel like removing them from the script).
2.) I will not remove an app from the removal script - if you don't like whats being removed, don't flash the zip.
3.) If I have forgot something that comes on the phone that CAN be downloaded from the Play Store (and can not be uninstalled), let me know. I'll add it to the script.
4.) If apps you are currently using are in the removal script, don't worry. The script makes them a user app instead of a system app (in my case it did anyway).
What's removed: :highfive:
*Clock (Google)
*Maps
*YouTube
*DownloadProviderUi
*HTMLViewer
*Calendar (Google)
*Drive (Google)
*OmaDmclient
*Photos (Google)
*Gallery2
*BasicDreams
*Calendar (Google)
*GoogleJapaneseInput
*Chrome
*CMFileManager
*Email
*Exchange2
*Galaxy4
*GooglePinyinIME
*Music2 (Google Music)
*NoiseField
*OpenWnn
*PhaseBeam
*Gmail
*Videos (Google Movies)
*KoreanIME
*OpenDelta
*Launcher3
What's added: :victory:
*Google stock bootanimation (black background with no text!)
*1 additional ringtone
*2 additional notifications
*4 additional alarm ringtones
Installation: :silly:
1. backup your ROM (there is no 'undo' button, so if you want whatever you want back, do a restore)
2. flash through TWRP (do not wipe cache/dalvik unless you want to get stuck on the Google logo - a hard power reset solves that problem anyways)
3. reboot
Download: :good:

Again, you all are on XDA for a reason and know the risks of modifying your device in any sense. Since everyone else does this, I'll do it too:
I'm not responsible for your device.
For those that are having force closing issues on certain apps, enabling immersive mode within apps seems to fix the problem..
Things you need:
You need Android Terminal Emulator in the Play Store or cmd on Windows
i would prefer to do this from a PC so you can copy and paste the commands, but it can be done with any terminal emulator also.
Step 1: Connect your phone to your PC enable USB debugging mode
Step2: Open up cmd in Windows or the emulator on your phone and copy/paste or type:
- adb shell
itll give you a '$'
then copy and paste or type:
- settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
should enable automatically.
so a debloat script and replacing boot ani with a black one? ill give it ago next time i redo my phone lol (i already debloated and have that boot ani)

the app wont run after zip. uninstall, reload from app store... still cant run app... app prompts to activate phone.. activate runs and app starts to work.
Same with "google" app (the default app that show when you swipe left from home screen.

Version/update doesn't matter..
Corrupted as in how?
I still use twrp 3.1.1. Beta 2
Corrupted as in it won't let me boot up into the OS. It's with other mods too
So far I've received an issue from a user on here (youll be able to read their issue on the last page) and i assume its user error due to me not having any issues at all..
My question is - has anyone else tried this script with complete success?? Given the 'thanks' i received, im assuming (again lol) that its working fine. In my experience on XDA, people only comment on whats wrong, and keep quiet when things are running as they should.. I'm now asking to voice your success just for reassurance for me
let me know guys, thanks! :good::fingers-crossed:
Just wanted to confirm that the debloat script works on the Feb update.. Just did it myself :highfive:
However, I did have a couple force closes on the Google app and Twitter (weird) -- after some testing, i got it working by enabling 'settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox' again
After I enabled that again, everything functions fine. :good:
Maybe this is needed for some apps that force close after flashing this debloat script (if you like immersive mode in apps)..
I'll post instructions in the 2nd post on the first page
Hey, thanks for this! Any chance of an update to April release?

Yeah I find that happens too. Plus despite having busybox titanium isn't even deleting system apps anymore, they are still there after reboot. So for now I stick to freezing...
