will my phone read 64GB memory card? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello, I'm going to buy OTG cable + USB2.0 card reader + microSD 64gb card (class 4).
Will this be readeble by USB host mode on Xperia P?

No one has tried I think

It will work only to the maximum extension limit of your handset which is generally 32GB...

It is said that it actually works... Some have made it

One thing is memory card internal and one thing is memory card mounted via USb host. I'm going the second method and I heard somewhere the phone is able to mount 64gb flash drive. I have tested the otg mount on 1.5tb hd drive and it's identified pretty good. So I assume the mount will work with 64 gb flash as well. The think I don't know is if the power consumption won't exceed allowed value. My old M2 card rmakes this problem.

SD Card reader to flyer

This may be a non starter but is there a way to connect an sd card reader to my flyer so I can get photo's from my camera to email out?

Don't know the answer but the term for that functionality is abbreviated OTG. Hopefully a quick search will tell if the flyer supports it or not. I know any device that started/shipped with honeycomb does but I don't know if an upgrade enables it or not. I'd assume its a slightly different bit of USB hardware in the device but I could be wrong. I have an Archos tablet with OTG via micro USB and its not completely useful since it only delivers about 75ma of power. You have to use a powered hub for practically everything, even most card readers although there are a few the tablet will operate.

You could get a micro SD to sd converter
They sell them on dealextreme. I got one to use fullsize sd cards on my eeepads micro SD slot

Ok
Tried an otg cable to my card reader, didn't work.
Tried an otg cable to a Photochute otg hard drive, didn't work.
Tried my stock flyer USB cable to the Photochute it stated to charge the flyer so it is getting power but didn't recognise the drive.
We don't have Dealextreme in the UK so I will have a rethink.

And the problem with using my dropbox account is getting the photos off the camera when I'm not near a PC, hence why I wanted to use the flyer.

I use an eye-fi card to transmit my photos to the flyer. Works great. Of course, your camera needs to support the eye-fi card.

The flyer doesn't send power when using the otg cable. you have to power it yourself using one of those y usb cables and a power source. Which kinda defeats the purpose.

Can't mount External SD Card

I've tried my S3 with 3 types of card now, 2gb SanDisk, 16gb Kingston and a 32gb Samsung Ultra Mobile. Each of varying classes.
I have used countless ROMS from stock to CM10 and AOKP/AOSP and I can't get the option to mount my card in the storage menu to highlight.
I have formatted them on my laptop as Fat32 and exFat but neither have worked yet they have worked in other Galaxy handsets.
Can any of you guys think of something I need to do to solve it or is it a case of a faulty phone?
Thanks in advance
Paul

If the card works with other GS3 but not yours then it is very high possibility your GS3 is faulty. Send it back to Samsung.

Tried it in different phone's and formatted it again but still didn't work???
The s3's faulty for sure. Get an exchange.
Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and send it back. If I get a chance I'll see if I can get someone to try it in their S3.

i have the same prob
Got my 64GB working
I upgraded from 32GBPNY to 64GB SanDisk. Couldn't mount the 64. Tried many things, but in the end, I formatted the 64 to ExFat because it became damaged and I don't have the fat32 option on my mac. Next I put in the 32, and made sure it was readable and mount/unmounted twice, just to make sure, then I put in my 64. After I saw details (card cap, and available), I went to the dev options and set "protect external SD" to on. Rebooted to Recovery and backed-up to ex sd. Once the back up completed I rebooted, went into the settings / more tab / storage. I am now able to mount and unmount at will. Hope this helps!

Sdcards, what's the largest our phone supports? And other ?s

I just bought a 16gb class 4 sdcard from target for 25 bucks and I'm having all kinds of problems getting my device to mount it...I've blown out the SDcard spot on the back of the phone, multi booted a lot of times..I have a 8gb class 2 card and it works..its starting to die because of multi recovery partitions so I had to get a new one...oh both cards are micro sdcard hc....

Format it from your phone not with a computer
It can't be formatted when its not being recognized...even my ps3 isn't recognizing it...when I go into recovery and try to do anything I get an error in mounting card..which makes me think I have to change the cards partition from whatever it is now to fat32
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
did you tried another kernel to see if it has some problems
for me on few kernels on ics and gb the sd card made me few problems and my sd card is with 32 gb class 4 and is new so i tried some other kernels to see if it works and worked i had this problem sometimes on gb with djnoxd's kernel
Supposedly 32gb class 10 is supported. My 8gb class 6 works well. If your PC can't recognize it you may have a bad sd

I just bought this sdcard....its literally not even 4 hours old...I'm on stock kernel so I'll try the kernel switches and see what it does
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
after flashing the new kernel don't forget to format sd card in settings
Well let's hope the phone would recognize the card while in cwm recovery...it can't format a card if it doesn't detect it
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
I'm assuming the 16gb card I just purchased is a class 4
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
look on your sd card for a "c" letter with 4 in middle and look if you see the symbol
Yep its a class 4
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Even with the 8gb card..I sometimes had problems...I'd boot in to recovery and try to flash a zip and that error of not being able to mount would be there so I'd have to take the battery out and the card, blow the card and slot place than reboot into recovery and then it would work
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Its annoying, this phone supposedly supports up to 32gb...it should be as easy as popping out the old one to replace a better one
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
maybe your slot card is damaged
If that were the case, than I wouldn't be able to use the 8gb card either...I think the 16gb card comes pre formatted on an exFAT partition and in order for any android phone to recognize it. It needs to be fat32 format...I also have problems detecting the 16gb card with the xmb of ps3...ps3 only recognizes fat32....if all of this is the case I need a good partitioning windows program. .this 16gb card is a brand new card
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Well...
I really think that the problem is with your sd card slot, because if you are saying that you had problems with the 8gb and the 16gb, also im telling you this because on my phone i tried a lot of sd cards, and i didn't have any trouble...
Also, my brand new sd card 16gb class 4, i didn't have to format it, i just put it on the phone, it was already formated fat32

Assume you still cant place files larger than 4GB on the sdcard?

Tried to copy over a 9gb movie, no go obviously. :\ Given no expansion SD slot, there is no way to work around this is there?
Doubt it. Storage is formatted using FAT file system which has a 4 gig file limit.

It is not formatted in fat. It is ext3 I believe that's why we don't have usb mass storage.

You could attempt zipping files in your computer and then unzip them in the phone. Alternatively, i heard that OTG is possible which will allow USB to be hooked up.

For those of you that are looking for extra storage, you might consider checking out this project of Kickstarter before it ends. This adapter allows you to use a microsd card with your One and also comes with a Micro USB to USB adapter to connect to your computer for file transfers. The adaptor is small and has been confirmed to work on the One. I've got one on order now. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/andyfei/mini-microsd-reader-for-android-smartphones-and-ta
just picked one up in case. thanks man
9gb movie... Wow, want to use every pixel on that screen huh?
That kickstarter project is definitely your best bet. Or a similar usb otg cable and a usb drive.

ext3 supports files much larger than 4GB. If the phone won't let you copy a 9GB file to it then it must be another problem. And UMS is discouraged by Google I think as it doesn't allow concurrent storage access to both apps and the computer attached though USB.
When Samsung added JB to the Note 2, the MTP driver blocked copying files >4GB. They seem to have fixed it on the SGS4 as I just finished copying a 4.3GB movie file to it.
split the file up
MTP is pretty awful; if you're at all comfortable with the command line, use adb instead and save yourself some trouble.

[Q] Portable hard drive doesn't work even with external power

While connected to Portable hard drives, HTC One Max doesn't recognize even with dual OTG cable with external power option. it accepts only usb pen drives. While Samsung note 2, S4, Note 3 easily detects the drive with ExFat formats. Kindly help me!
I think you need Fat32
I have no trouble with FAT32 file systems, but exFAT and NTFS are not recognised
on my stock VZW One Max on 4.3. I have a 128GB microSDXC in fat32 and it
is seen fine, Apparently the M8 does support exFAT, I guess HTC didn't want
to license it for the Max?
FAT32 doesn't allow to transfer a single file size more than 4gb. That's why I need EXFAT support. Any idea to make it work.
