All in one-Kernel + Roms XPERIA PLAY - Xperia Play Android Development

THREAD MERGED---NEW THREAD HERE:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897

nice very tidy list

reserved for anything.

Add jokawild to the GB list. Besides that good post.

Cool list, maybe you can add the last date they were updated? so we know if it's the best option, also the ones that are no longer updating(discontinued), great job, this should be a sticky.

i dont put jokawild or others cause some just are outdated..devs dont answer anymore in thread. so no point to install that roms if its buggy for someone ,no one answers..i put the more relevant roms..and from september 2012 till now..in blue you have updated roms..means developers still adding new versions or updating the roms a bit.
just to keep a clean thread and can help new users more easily.:good:

While I can understand where your coming from, I have to say Jokawild is the best GB ROM I have tried. Its beautiful and incredibly fast (on-par or maybe more than NXTLite) It's my Daily ROM, and I havnt had one of those in a while.
I wish I knew about this ROM sooner, so I'd suggest putting it as a honorable mention atleast
Also, I have had no bugs or anything. Either way just a suggestion :silly:

Maybe u should add if there stable or under development.
Anyway, nice list.

updated list.:good:

Odp: All in one-Kernel + Roms r800i
Also add aokplay 4.0.4 by supervenom to the list. It's the smoothest and the least buggy ICS with aokp I've ever tried after flashing jb drivers v3.

It's outdated... Lol, seriously there are others outdated roms which are worse than this "too outdated" rom. Why would you need updates for a perfect rom though? What does other ics roms have that my favourite ics rom doesn't? Tell me one thing that makes other roms superior to aokplay and I'll look down and admit you're right.

updated list..olokos now we have better and fastest ICS roms..and developers interested in helping..its not worth to digg old threads.
anyway thanks for the suggestion.:good:

Good tread: )
I haven't seen a Rom compilation or the PLAY since like 2011 hehe
I know the intention is to make a light thread, not saturated with too many roms and kernels, but there are some roms that are 100% complete, so new users, (if you take a look to q&a section there are a LOT of new PLAY users) would find it easier/ less troublesome to have their first flashing with a full Rom, instead of dealing with bugs and wait for the developers to solve them. Maybe you're lookind to make a thread for developers/daily flashers, but if you want, you can make it a little (no too much) wider and cover more completed protects. If you do so, this should be a sticky on devs section and q&a section. It would be so nice XD
As a start, you should include the Dixperia2 Rom, it's not too old (September 2012) and it's the best Rom for a balance between performance and battery life. For hard gaming, is the best along jokawild and NXT lite, with no need for supercharger or other tweaks; and it's 100% completed. Hope you consider this

kernel.org is down and has been down for about the last month. Cant repo sync with out it.
There are alternatives like codeaurora but its a bit more difficult to sync Android than a standard linux kernel.
---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 PM ----------
On an additional note, I am building a kernel right now attempting for 1.4 ghz...at least I hope. this is only the 5th or 6th time I've ever made one, and have never OCd one. So there is a lot of hit and miss here. It's failed to build already several times but hopefully I can release something for you all to play with. It will be the first time I have ever released anything Rom/Kernel I have built because I really don't have the time to support or keep up with it.

No need to rush kernel builds. Because they do require alot of testing and modifying in order to insure stability. And if you really want more kernel devs. Start a bounty to pay for phones. I know quite a few of kernel devs that wouldnt mind modding if they had the phone.

take your time, we appreciate everything you guys are doing for this community.
Don't rush it,, all great things take time I'm sure the devs would rather test and wait and test some more than to just rush out a kernal with many issues, think about it you as a person would get mad that it was buggy, so just have patience and wait like the rest of us,,,or buy your favorite dev a photon I bet if you did that you would get the first of everything from that dev.... that's my 2 cents

The beginner's guide to finding a ROM [i777 edition]

Hello! So I hear you want to find a ROM that a) has great battery life b) makes your phone look like the GS3 or Nexus 4 c) makes you breakfast or d) all of the above. Well sadly I cannot tell you what the "best ROM" is because I am not you. I do not do what you do on an every day basis and, likewise, I do not use my phone for the same reasons that you do. Of course, I can help you find a ROM, but in the end it boils down to you. This guide will show you the ins and outs of being a ROM, er, consumer?
Battery life? is a common problem among smartphone owners. The good news is that with the right settings and almost any custom ROM, you will be able to make your battery last (almost?) a day. You can turn your brightness down and turn off GPS and Wifi when not using those features. That will most definitely conserve your battery life. But, overall, battery life depends on your usage of the phone.
Finding a preferred version of Android may help you in your hunt for ROMs. You may like ICS for its stability. You may like Jellybean 4.2 for it's bleeding-edge new features (or you may hate it for that reason). Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to try different versions of Android.
Touchwiz or Stock Android? is another important question to ask. Really, this question is all about aesthetics and maybe a couple of features. Touchwiz is what ships with your Galaxy S II and the GS2's newest TW update would be 4.1 (which means it's essentially up to date). Touchwiz is developed by Samsung and can be modified but not built from source. Stock Android is what is on the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 and can be built from source, allowing faster updates for you.
Stability? If you are using your phone for daily use, you will want a Daily Driver, or stable ROM. These ROMs will allow you to use (almost) all of the features that came with your phone and more.
Now, for the million dollar question... What is the best ROM? There is no best ROM, silly! There are a variety of ROMs for a reason, and that reason is that every user is different. There will never be a right or wrong ROM or one that rises above the rest because it truly is a matter of preference.
How do I find the ROM that is best for me, then? You flash different things until you find something you love and something that works for your personal needs!

Perhaps I meant to say the most productive ROM. I plan on trying to build my own JB drivers after my device gets fixed by Samsung. A real learning curve for someone like me! What are your "favorite" ROMs?
I know all ROMs are unique, and have millions of variations. It's just the fact that some of their bugs are really, well, dangerous for us "n00b" users. I'd rather feel confident that the ROM I am flasing on my s2 will actually work, and not break or brick my phone. The pros (like extended battery life and stock ROM feel) are just those things that make custom ROMs amazing!

Well currently I'm running PAC ROM. I like how I have it set up currently... it has a few bugs, but those usually only take place at boot. I've used Miui and Samsung JB before also... I've actually flashed most of the ROMs available for i777 (both built from source and ported).
Absolutely! That's why before trying out a ROM I personally will read the OP and user comments and whatnot. You always have to be careful of special instructions and bugs and things. The good thing about the GS2 is that it is almost virtually unbrickable (thanks to Odin/Heimdall). But it is always good to be careful when doing these things... From my experience flashing via CWM isn't really unsafe as long as you have a ROM AND kernel made for your phone. Kernels contain the recovery and vital files, so having a kernel made for the i777 is very important. Most i9100 ROMs will work on the i777 with tweaking (swapping out kernel, keylayout files, etc.) but you should NEVER flash a kernel or (not ported) ROM not made for our phone because that's when things can potentially (and probably will) get sticky.
I've been flashing ROMs since December 2011 or so... I've never hardbricked (read: rendered unusable) a device through ROM flashing in CWM. I've softbricked many times however (bootloop, etc.) but those were easily recoverable through either my kernel's recovery or Odin. Am I saying to not be careful? No, of course not. But my point is you've got to take some sort of risk if you want that better battery life or stock feel. It's up to you to decide whether or not that risk is worth it.
Of course, if you have any questions not answered in a development thread, you should ask them in that thread. I'm sure someone would be happy to help you as long as you have used the search feature. I'm also here as a user/flashaholic/porter/modder if you need any help but I can't guarantee I'll have an answer for you.
Sorry if I didn't answer your question in a satisfactory way and sorry if I made this too long, haha.
Shostock 3 looks pretty awesome! Once I get my SGH-S730m unlocked, I will see to try Shostock 3 (and eventually the PAC ROM if all goes well) on my S2. I always want a back-up phone just in case.
Thanks for the help!

[Q] fully working stable jellybean rom?

hey guys, quick question?? ive been running thtrough jellybean roms but theyre all buggy in their own ways.. i was wondering if theres a particular jelly ROM thats stable enough to use everyday? som give me "com.process.yadayada.com" errors and in some i cant get back out of fullscreen videos viewed through the browser?? lol i just really want a chill stable version of jelly.. could be 4.1.1 for all i care i just want it to function like a phone is supposed to.. and believe me i tried everything.. wiping cache/dalvik/factory, fixing permissions, reflashing the roms and nothing?? maybe im not doing something right? thanks in advance everyone.
All JB roms are going to have some bugs. The code for the note has not been officially released from Samsung. Just something you have to deal with and probably why no one has answered your question.
If you want my opinion try Jamie's latest and greatest CM 10.1 build. It's under the Android development thread. For me it has been the most stable.

You may want to try different governor and schedulers. Some are more stable then others and different ones work best for different phones. For my phone ondemand/sio is the best setup.
JamieD's UNOFFICIAL CM 10.1 preview 4 is very stable is based on the latest 4.2.2 and can be tweaked in many wonderful ways to work how u want it... I would trust ANY of his ROMs ... If u want 4.1.2 get his PA ROM from official development. If u want all of the latest features and also like updates then go for 10.1

Just to be the Devil's Advocate here, I actually had quite the opposite results. When I first started flashing and learning more and more, I got super into running different scripts and experimenting with different governors and schedulers...i think just based on the intrigue of having the capability itself, as well as seeing all of these posters on here saying how smooth and solid their phones were after running ________ governor at these super high over clocked speeds.
But no matter what combo i tried, I would always either LOSE UI speed, start overheating at the first sign of additional processing, drain battery like it's going out of style, or a combination of all three.
So I finally just gave up and started being patient every time I flashed a new ROM, just sticking it out for a few days on the stock setup...and sure enough, I've never been happier - UI smoothness, processing speed, battery temp, and battery life in general have never been better and more consistent for me since I "wizened up". Now keep in mind, this (like every ROM, kernel, etc) is rarely ever going to be exactly the same for anyone else - I have no doubt that your setups are working great for you - so take it with a grain of salt of course. Just wanted to provide my two cents!
So which Jellybean Rom can use the TETHERING & PORTABLE HOTSPOT. I installed the CM10.1 preview 5 last night. But the tethering funtion is not working too. Even I turn on the tethering but I can't see from another device. Please advice.

i dont think that protable hotspot works on any CM10.1 rom. i also have P5 and and also P1, P2,etc....usb tethering is the only way that it works.
i also tried apps like FoxFi and WiTether and they dont work on this.
but i read in this thread, ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082057 ), that running it without a password lets it work. i have not confirmed this yet.

Been using Jellybeer for a few days now with no problems. Loving this rom for sure.

Frustrated...

Ive been a day one Note user and loved the work of all the devs here. I absolutely hate that the stock jb (specifically the debloated stock) is so Damn sluggish. I love the aokp/cm/aosp roms for speed but the random reboots and in some cases lack of stability are problematic. As are the battery life issues.
I've tried the other stock based roms and not sure if it's my device or what but they all get significantly more sluggish with time/usage. If anyone has a stable aosp/aokp /pure Android ROM to suggest I'd be happy to give it a spin. I still love the device just wish it was more smooth.
In any event I greatly appreciate the work of the devs that are still around. Please keep up the good work.

Well black jelly and fuze kernel may help or what I run is rootbox4/20 build and 4aces kernel build 4/21...I had sluggish issues as well with 4.1.2 .....but I have been more drawn to certain 4.2.2 builds as well as ICS builds due to then fact that 4.1.2 just doesn't like to work properly with my i717....

So you understand what I'm saying. I'll check out and pay more attention to the 4.2.2 roms and give those another spin. I'll try that combo you mentioned. Thanks much for the suggestion.

Also try the CyanogenMod April M3 or "snapshot" from the get.cm download site. This is one of the last 4.2.2 builds that were stable before the random reboots plague came.
Thanks very much for the suggestions I'll give those a try.

Try the CM 9 ROM in the development section. It's smooth and battery life is good

+1. For what you seem to want. Definitely try that CM9 rom. Its a good mix of jellybean + ICS like its title says.
However the other ROMS mentioned are definitely the most stable builds of non-touchwiz jellybean that you could get

So far the 8/28 Unofficial AOKP from BlownFuze has been very good. Looks like it may work out. I tried an earlier version of this and got the SOD and hand't been back in a while. If I have any issues in the future, i'll try the other recommendations.
Thanks!
Man I have went from the note 2 to this which is a long story but damn. Jb is almost non bearable to use. Laggy and even using cm10.1 stable and rc3 it would not even play angry birds friends correctly.
So went to stock 4.04 and removed all that att stuff since I am in Germany on o2 and I have to say its been pretty good to me.
I run nova launcher and so far battery has been good, angry birds friends play great and not an issue.
I really think Samsung just gave us jb to shut us up about it and forgot to check to see how it ran.
My next phone will be the nexus 5 or whatever it will be called.
Tired of this flashing 50 Roms to get my device to run the way it was meant to be
