problem with encryption - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My device is encrypted for getting mails from corporate exchange server.
Few days ago I've un installed the samsung keyboard.
Today when I rebooted the device it asked for the password as usual, but no keyboard is displayed, thus I cannot enter the code...
Any ideas?
Thank you in advanced.
Regards,
Zlicha

Try downloading and installing the Default Keyboard. If that doesn't work you may need to wipe data/cache and reflash your ROM.

not possible

thank you for your reply, but i cannot install anything as the device is still locked.
I think there is no choice than reflash the rom. Do you think it is possible reflashing a different rom than mine? (of course after wipe).

What do you mean by locked? You should be able to install an apk. Just go to System Settings > Security and allow installation from Unknown Sources. Yea you can install custom ROMs.

no login

since the device is encrypted, I am stucked on the login screen where I supposed to type the password.
I'm not able going into the setting menu.

OK. Just flash a stock ROM through Odin.

Bugger - not familiar with the encryption system. Can u get the phone into recovery mode without entering a password? If so u can install an apk from your sd card...

[Q] troubles with recovery(code)

Hello
my friend changed his password to the phone, but of course he forgot it..
I thougt that a wipe and a new rom could do it.
I've struggled with it a long time now..
I can flash cwm recovery - ok
I have tried du download a ICS stock rom, and flashed it with odin. it gets stuck at the samsung logo.
Then i tried to flash a Gingerbread stock rom. then i asks for the code again.
I flashed a new .PIT-file
When I flash the gingerbread rom, it still have the same background as before.
My question is how to I get rid of ALL data on the phone? internal sd-card and so?
some data must have survied the data wipe/dalvik wipe in CWM
what to do?
There is no ext. sd-card
phone is af gt-i9100 intl. version

when the ICS stock rom gets stuck at the samsung logo :
* Boot into recovery mode to do this press and hold Home + Volume UP + Power and your mobile phone will boot into recovery.
* From the recovery screen, Go to Factory Reset and Wipe cache one-by-one and confirm both.
* Now, Go back and select “reboot system now”.
hello
thank you for your answer, but i've tried that.
but how can it be, that the phone remembers the password and backgroun, even after a wipe?

data wipe means that the user-data is deleted
I think that device passwords are saved with the system-data
you should - 'format system', that should do it.
good luck.

System not responding

[Noob question]
I have a 2 year old Samsung GT-S5282 i just rooted a month ago, by installing CWM 6.0.3.7 and flashing SuperSU 2.07 in it.
I've installed a few root apps that "boosts" the phone's performance.
But a month later i tried rebooting the phone, it passes the boot logo, then it comes across a dialog saying "process system is not responding, do you want to close it?"
I pressed "wait", but then the system crashes and the screen turns off. I tried consecutive battery pulls, wiping cache partition, but no luck, it still crashes on the dialogue screen.
I reckon it's on the kernel, but i'm STILL not sure what is going on.
Can anybody suggest a fix? I really need this phone and i don't want to lose any data.
(I've backed up my personal files, i meant i don't want to lose any internal data that cannot be backed up)
Please.

I guess you are able to reach recovery mode. If yes, then u should connect it with computer. Try installing a custom rom (i would suggest CM11).
Step 1: Installing TWRP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-star/orig-development/recovery-teamwin-recovery-project-3-0-2-t3435364
Step2: Installing a custom rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67870832&postcount=175

Um thank you so much for the suggestion.
But unfortunately when i try to boot to recovery, the stock recovery opens up, not the CWM i flashed.
I tried to flash a fix for it, but it also didn't work.
But i guess flashing a new ROM will be the last option i have, so....do flashing one delete all my data? And if so, can i restore all internal data if ever i'll back it up? Thank you SO much for replying.

Well, then try three button combo (volume-down + home + power) to boot into bootloader and flash TWRP with odin.
No, your files in internal and external storage are not deleted when you format dalvik, cache, system and data partitions.
Edit: volume-down + home + power (boot to bootloader)
volume-up + home + power (boot to recovery)

Okay thanks.
By the way what version of TWRP would work great? (I have XXANF4 stock kernel btw, i still can't access the main screen of the phone after booting up)
And if i wipe system and data partitions will it delete the settings i have on the phone (ex. WiFi connection history, Bluetooth transfer history etc.)?
Thanks again.

Dang it.
Wanted to keep it.
But thanks anyway.
I still can't access the phone. It just boots up, shows the lockscreen, then crashes and automatically reboots, then gets stuck in a bootloop.
I wanted to install a custom rom like you said but i cannot copy the rom files to the sdcard (the phone's still inaccessible).
Any more suggestions? Thanks.

Also, the reboot problem existed since i installed root apps, the system crash existed since i installed a custom launcher. (Nova to be exact). I don't know if that has connection to problem.

Do a factory reset
Go to advance and format system and data
Then flash Stock Deodex Prerooted rom by akshay
Done
It won't delete anything
Flash cwm for star via odin
Then flash twrp via cwm
Remove ur SD card and using a card reader copy ROM file into SD card.
Mount ur SD card
Then flash the rom

I mean, it deletes all the settings right? Like WiFi hotspots and bluetooth transfer history and every app i have on my phone. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that i will delete all of that just because my phone crashes on passing through the boot screen. . .

U couldn't mention what tweaks did u installed to boost the phone and what exactly happened.
So,all I can say is 'do a factory reset'..
Just flash official firmware. The problem was automatically fixed without wiping data.

What he suggested will delete the lockscreen password/passcode etc so you can boot the phone without any prompts. You do this within TWRP.

oh in that case, should I have to factory reset everytime I flash a rom through my TWRP? I use ZCX TWRP, so Lazy flasher is not required after rom flashing right?
you just need it once . to decrypt your storage

In the information about the ZCX TWRP I found below:
ZCX TWRP : http://forum.xda-developers.com/redm...persu-t3462448
- Based on official TWRP 3.0.2-0
- Patches boot.img automatically (Removes dm-verity flag)
- Disables forced encryption
Should I have to tweak anything in TWRP settings to remove this dm-verify flag everytime?

Are you coming from MIUI? If so then MIUI encrypts the data partition, hence the new ROM asking for a password.
Before you install the ROM, you must "format data" on wipe in TWRP, this is different from wipe data.
Note that this will delete all your data obviously.

Perfect. Worked bro. Thanks a lot for the help. I was wiping cache, and internal storage. Now only came to know this. :highfive:

Is my /data encrypted?

I am on miui 8.1.4.0 rooted rn3p. So my question is can i use dual boot patcher and dual boot lineage os 14.1
Anyone ??
OK. I'll try to help. Boot into TWRP and press the button on the bottom left (four lines). This will open TWRP log. If you see something like "attempting to decrypt with default password" it means your data is encrypted. An alternative solution is to flash TWRP by dadi11 and see if it asks you for password.
How to decrypt? You must format data in TWRP. This will wipe your /data and the entire internal storage so make sure you make a backup on your SD card or PC. Then boot into TWRP, select Wipe menu and press Format data. After this, immediately flash either SuperSU or Magisk or Lazy flasher (which ever one of the three you like) and only then reboot. Once the system boots, go back into TWRP and check your log again.

Umm... not sure what you're talking about. Maybe DT2W? I tried out Radon, but I haven't tried that feature. I think you just need to reflash Radon and choose default options. If that doesn't work for you, just reflash MIUI, it will get rid of Radon.

Weird... It seems to me that you are still encrypted. Have you tried flashing DualBootUtilities and switching to MIUI that way? It is possible that you messed up your primary ROM boot image, I think that happened to me once. Whatever the case, reflashing MIUI should allow you to boot into MIUI.

Flashing back miui kicked me out of the situation and btw i backed up the boot.img as well as tried switching roms none worked and also it was glitching zcx a bit.
Its quite irritating seeing xiaomi and miui enforcing so many security measures a bad day for people who like to customize things a lot!

OK. Good to know that at least you have a working system now. I only experienced issues with booting MIUI after I flashed a custom kernel on MIUI and forgot to update the kernel in DBP app, but like we established flashing MIUI solves the problem.
But again, there's no use in experimenting with DBP until you format data. So please report back when you get around to doing that.
As for Xiaomi policies, I don't know the details, but I don't think it's their fault. It seems that Google can be very strict when certifying devices and allowing the OEMs to include Gapps. Google forces OEMs to ship phones with locked bootloaders and forced encryption.

The order of steps is very important.
1st step: Boot to recovery.
2nd step: Format data (not wipe and I don't know what you mean by erase).
3rd step: Flash ROM (Epic ROM should be good, but it also works for Global Stable and others).
4th step: Flash SuperSU.
5th step: Reboot system.

TWRP requires password

Hi everyone,
I have this problem that TWRP asks me for a password every time, I tried entering my password but it didn't work, if I press cancel I get in the menu but TWRP can't see internal storage only SD card.
Does someone know a fix for this problem?
I've tried some stock passwords also I tried reflashing TWRP but neither worked for me.

This is a main problem right now on TWRP... You have to actually wipe all data for making TWRP work! there is not another way of doing it.

Yes, I assume that is the only way for now when installing custom ROM (Lineage OS 14.1) TWRP no longer asks for passwords on start-up even after restoring MIUI 9.6 via TWRP, it still doesn't want pass
I reset my device via wipe option in twrp home screen but , the problem still persists. Provide some other method to overcome this problem.

Make a backup via TWRP and save it on USB OTG or SD card.
From the WIPE menu select ADVANCED
Select everything (except for USB OTG and MicroSD, that is where your backup is) and then Swipe to Wipe. Restore the backup you made.
That did it for me, I didn't clean flash official ROM because I've read that it bricks the device if you do it via TWRP (I am not sure if that is true or not, if someone has information, please share.)
Important: I am not some expert in flashing modifying unlocking and etc. This is just my personal experience, if you decide to try this and somehow you brick or/and damage your devices, I am not responsible in any way, if you are not sure what you are doing, better just don't do anything.
Good Luck!
TWRP 3.1.1.0
Nothing solved the problem but twrp 3.1.1.0 .
I am now having this proble where do I get twrp 3.1.1.0 the official site lists only 3? this password problem has annoyed me for hours now

Didnt worked for me.. i get the error "FAILED (remote: dtb not found)"
Flash miui with fastboot mode with pc than you see stock recovery come
All TWRP for Rosy (Miui 10, global/ EU) now has problem with password for encryption. However I just select SD, point to the downloaded ROM and flash, and it works! Update new rom and do not lose anything. I think it only hide the OS. I only swipe the data when OS crash
Use the steps in this thread
