[Q] Stuck in Bootloop/Failed Flash - Motorola Droid RAZR

I was able to root my droid then I was going to try to unlock the boot loader so I could flash a custom ROM. Well the owner of the phone couldn't get it to unlock so he tried flashing CM using RSD.
It failed, it was stuck on this screen;
Invalid Flash Mode (S) (Flash failure)
0A.6C
To return to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery Low
Cannot Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
So I used this walkthrough to try and remedy the problem;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625
Then I started getting this screen;
Invalid Flash Mode (S) (boot failure)
0A.6C
To return to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery Low
Cannot Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Invalid CG OTV (CC: System): Invalid SP Data
Invalid CG Version (CC: System)
Invalid CG OTV (CC: System)
After a lot of reading, I found out I'd need a factory cable to remedy the situation. I believe the phone is wiped and can't boot into an OS and that is why it is getting stuck. So I used the following links to build my own;
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/146492-how-why-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077414
After completing the cable and plugging it in I am now getting this screen;
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure)
0A.66
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
At this point I believe I fixed his problem, keep in mind, I'm coming into this process after it got stuck in the fastboot loop. So I start trying to use the following link to unlock the bootloader so I can try to flash back to stock(which by the way, I can't for the life of me find a stock ROM to flash).
I am using this link https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I installed the latest Motorola drivers, I then installed Android SDK tools through the command prompt, I am now trying to get the device ID of the phone so I can unlock it and flash a ROM.
Even though I installed the Moto drivers, my computer isn't detecting the device, it is coming up as unknown in the device manager, I was going to manually assign the drivers to the USB device but I can't find the 32bit drivers to do that and what I downloaded from MOTO is an .exe that installs, I'm assuming several drivers for different devices.
Now I went into the command prompt to see if fastboot.exe can see the device plugged in, because prior to this fastboot problem his computer would at least show his IMEI even though he couldn't get it to display the unlock data.
I'm not getting anything, I'm guessing the jump to PIN 1 to 4 is correct but it doesn't know it's plugged into a computer? Even though my computer knows SOMETHING is plugged in. I'm lost, rooting and building ROMS for my Samsung devices was so much easier.

You will need to build a factory cable using the links I posted or buy a factory cable. They are $10 on eBay. The factory cable bypasses looking for a battery and will let you flash a rom. I get the "Battery OK, OK to Program" on my phone but it isn't showing up on my computer, that's my issue.

Try THis
If you are having trouble changing the battery while stuck at the Fash Failure Screen
Try this - Plug in the phone to a AC outlet. While at the Flash Failure screen, Hold down the Volume Up and Power button at the same time to turn off the phone. After the phone flashes (turns off), let go of the buttons and then quickly hold down both the up and down buttoms and the power button. A new menu will appear, with many different options (boot options). Select [Normal Powerup]. this will try to boot up the phone, notice it is low on battery, and start charging. IT will change to the screen with a outline of a battery being charged.
Hope this helps

^^Not my problem at all.
So I bought the factory cable, it came in today and the device registers on my computer as MOT Single ADB Interface.
I also get this when I check for devices using command.
C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\androidsdk\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot.exe devices
01547AE90900B014 fastboot
I still can't get this command to work;
C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\androidsdk\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot.exe oem get_unlock_
data
...
FAILED (remote: unsupported command)
finished. total time: 0.006s
I tried flashing the XML file that I believe is stock and it fails; I attached it as rsdscreen.jpg
I'm completely lost, hoping someone can shed some light. At this point, I don't even care if it is a stock ROM or a custom ROM, I just want something that works.

Phone fixed
I FIXED MY PROBLEM!!
I bought the factory cable on eBay and rebooted into fastboot mode.
Like for cable;
Can't post link because I'm a new user, if you want the link PM me.
Then I downloaded Matt Groff's Utility here;
Can't post link because I'm a new user, if you want the link PM me.
Followed the instructions, got the phone back to stock ICS
Phone had to be wiped using his utility but I don't care, phone is unbricked and all my pictures and stuff are on the SD card anyways. Kudos to Matt Groff.

So guys, this will be very usefull!
Friends who are experiencing this annoying problem here is the solution.
Whenever he would call my Razr was falling in AP mode Fastboot.
The Device Error LOCKED. Status Code: 0 "
"Fastoboot AP mode (S) (Flash Failure)

2. Turn off the Razr
3. Power On the Razr and select Fastboot Mode AP
4. Open the command prompt CMD
5. Go to the folder where the radio is empty
6. Make flash the radio with the following command and then type "fastboot reboot"
7. Rest assured I tested on my Razr this command does not erase the radio
8. This command will only restart the fastboot
9. Now then turn off the Razr holding vol - and power
10. Plug the Razr holding vol + vol - and power and have it start normally

Hey,
What is your razr model please?
Please flash a rom using the alternative flashing method (fla****) by the eternity project and that error will be gone.

Opening the back cover will destroy the waterproof seal! Seriously you don't want to do this. There's an easy method.
AFAIK, most of the time this error appears on unsuccessful fastboot command. For example, you can get this error by running this command
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
It will spit Info Command restricted! then you'll get this "Flash Failure" error on every boot up.
To clear it ,all you need is to do a successful fastboot command. Assuming you don't do something like
Code:
fastboot erase xxxx
then there's no need to do full flash. The simplest way I know is to do
Code:
fastboot flash radio empty_radio.img
fastboot restart
It seems this command write to the cache partition(unsigned) & trigger recovery mode.
Once in recovery, Press Vol-Up & Vol-Down simultaneously.
Then select reboot now.
Hope I'm clear & it help somebody.
Attached is the empty_radio file. (There's nothing inside, just ext3 partition with empty recovery folder)
Simply flash radio.img which has the same baseband version or other ROMs. Upon a successful flashing, the 'Flash failure'error message will be cleared.
Good luck

Alright thanks mate,, can't wait to get rid of this problem
Edit:
Well the problem solved itself, though i am not quite sure how. i was using a walkie-talkie at work
and just happened to have my phone right next while talking at one point and when i wanted to turn on
the screen, nothing happened. it wouldn't power on at all, not even with the simulated battery-pull.
so i got my charger and when i plugged it in, the charging screen came up, without fastboot beforehand.
also it said my battery was at 5% when i was sure it was almost full just before. i powered up the phone,
again no fastboot-screen. when it was booted, the battery level was back to normal, but the date reset to 13.01.12
and time to 11:00. i put those right, and bam: everything was cool again. i reproduced this by pushing the talk button on
the walkie-talkie again with about 5cm distance to the phone and sure enough, the same thing happened, even the date/time reset.
so my phone is fine now. anyone care to elaborate how that might have worked?

[Q] Bricked XT912 - Only AP Fastboot Works HELP!

I have an XT912 on Verizon US that is currently bricked with a low battery. I tried using vel0city's method of charging in Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625), but when I try to access anything other than AP Fastboot I get the message:

Hey, I am in the same situation!! Luckily, I have one solution. This is the only way to get out of it as far as I know. So, you need to buy a Motorola Factory cable for your XT912. They are very cheap. Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=motorola+factory+cable&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Once you have received the cable, read here on how to use it to unbrick your XT912 (just scroll down for instructions) : http://www.usbstyle.com/cables/motorola-droid-razr-xt912-factory-cable-for-fastboot-mode-unroot-unbrick-rooted/
NOTE: The Factory Cable is NOT for charging!!! The Factory Cable bypasses the "Battery Low" message (when plugged into PC), so then you put it into AP Fastboot and run Razr Utility 1.8.2! Hope I helped!
Thanks for the help! I might have to try that option... Did you see the method to charge in fastboot? It's the link on my post. I was just thinking that if I got it to charge (so that I don't have to buy the cable to bypass the battery low thing), could I fix it?
You dont need the cable. I was in the same situation and the way I fixed it was to plug the phone into a outlet. Then restart the phone - hold down both the up and down buttons, and then the power button. Wait about 10 secs....after the screen flashes and turns black, do the same thing. You should now be able to select which mode to boot into. Select NORMAL BOOT. This should give you the red Motorola screen and then the charging battery screen. Wait until fully charged and then restart phone. After restarting again and going into the boot select screen, then you can select AP FASTBOOT and everything should be fine
I had this issue the other day when trying to flash JB. Took me about 2 days to get it going again but run a google search for empty radio or something like that just fast boot flash the empty radio file then fastboot flash the system.img manually and reboot and you should be good to go
Eighthourblink, I tried doing that technique but when I booted using the "normal" method the M logo popped up for a split second, then the AP Fastboot menu came up again with the same error as before. At the top where it normally says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)" it says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure). Pretty much I can't do anything other than access the fastboot screen. I think the reason is that when I tried using the Razr Utility (1.6 - option 2) the system files did not get transferred before the battery low error came up.
cyphrmatrix: I tried using RSD Lite to flash files over to the phone, but it will not recognize my phone. I installed the drivers correctly and the computer recognized my phone (I used to be able to use Droid Razr Utility without a problem), but for some reason RSD Lite won't find my device.
I got my phone fixed! After a week of research and failed attempts at restoring the phone back to normal, I finally found a solution. I bought Team Black Hat's factory cable converter (in order to bypass the low battery) and had to use DroidRazrUtility 1.8 in order to do the full restore. My initial problem was that I used really old software to restore the phone (DroidRazrUtility 1.42) and it just crapped out on me. Hope no one has to ever have this problem!

If Battery is OK, use Razr Utility 1.82 to unbrick it.
If Battery is Low:
You need to buy a Motorola Factory Cable. They are very cheap. I had to buy one as well, and it fixed my Razr in Boot Failure.
Buy one here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40
*Make sure it's the right cord for your device (XT910)* DO NOT BUY FROM CHINA!! (I have had bad experience)

Is my Atrix 4G hard bricked?

I tried unlocking the bootloader an atrix that was given to me about a month ago, and it had 3.4.6 (or something like that) and I couldn't find an unlocker for that version so I tried the one for the previous version, which failed at some point in the process and now it just boots to "Failed to boot 1". I've been trying every method I can find to try to fix this, I even bought the little red adapter to change any cable into a dev cable, and i know it works because if I power it on with the volume up key pressed it says "power reason: factory cable".
I've tried RSD lite when connected with the adapter, but device properties stays blank. I tried loading an image and pressing start but nothing happens. The computer is seeing the phone but it says that it doesn't recognize the device. Also, if I start it with the volume up pressed it goes STRAIGHT to the fastboot protocol thing, I never get the option to choose RSD protocol. "fastboot devices" is just blank.
I tried it on several different computers with the same results.
Is this a hard brick? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

If you power on while pressing volume-up, it should go straight to fastboot since it's the first option available. What happens when you reboot with volume-down?
Also, if the phone says "Starting fastboot protocol support" it's not hard-bricked, even if it's seriously screwed up at the moment. If it says "Entering NVFlash recovery mode," that's the point where it's toast (from the user end anyway).
With your phone in fastboot, does your computer recognize either of the SD cards? Have you re-downloaded the Motorola drivers, just to be sure? If "fastboot devices" comes back blank, then either the phone isn't truly in fastboot mode or the drivers aren't up to date.

This isn't a hard brick:good:
when you boot your phone don't hold down the volume button, then hit the volume down button right when the menu comes up. Then just cycle through and hit RSD and that should do it

also, in the future I would recommend using this tool for unlocking and rooting your phone, it's no sweat, and this tool even has an automatic fix for your current problem. if I'm not mistaken..I'm not totally sure
here is the thread where the automatic BL unlocker came from, though the link there is broken http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871

Powered on with volume-up it goes to:
Failed to boot 1
PwrReason: FACTORY_CABLE
Starting Fastboot protocol support
With power down (which I didn't know about), I see something flash on the screen really fast and then it goes blank. The computer recognizes it, but it still says "unknown device".
I recently downloaded the Motorola Device Manager from here: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481
This machine is Windows 8, but I also tried it on a Windows 7 machine with the same result.
With the phone in fastboot, as above, it the computer doesn't see the internal storage, but it doesn't have an SD card in it, I will put one in it today and see what happens.
I've downloaded the above software fresh on each of the three machines I have tried this on, two Windows 8 machines, and one Windows 7.
Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Great, I'm glad to know it's not hard bricked!
When I boot the phone with nothing pressed, it goes straight to a single line:
Failed to boot 1
I never get the menu. Also, just tried some presses of the button as it was booting up and found that I don't need to hold either power up or down. If I power it on, and when it stops at failed to boot 1, I can press the power up once and it goes to the fastboot protocol support screen or power down and the screen goes blank.
I'll check out the links you posted, thanks!
Failed to boot 1 should be the same as rsd mode.

As I understood you wanted to unlock bootloader and failed. So I suggest you to try automatized bootloader unlock tool(@thewarhawk give you link) and then fix the "Failed to boot 1" because if you failed something now you probably hard brick your device I have experience whit one of my atrix. So I in your situation will do that:
1) manually in fastboot (better in win7) fastboot oem unlock (I just doest know command for unique device id in fastboot so it need you to search in xda)
2) then flash fully system partition whit fastboot
3) and then if device doesn't boot correctly try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528729 as you early said @thewarhawk
Hi, the problem is the windows 8 drivers,First download this. Then you need to boot the phone in fastboot mode, then go in device manager then you will see fastboot with an exclamation mark. Right click on it and select update drivers. Next do search for a driver on my computer, Then you do choose from a drivers list (or something along those lines). Select ADB interface -> Motorola -> Mot composite ADB interface. You will get a warning, say yes anyway then bang... your phone is detected by adb and fastboot.

Invalid flash mode (s) (boot failure) + bootloop

Hi all, I'm new in this forum but i read a lot of your thread in order to learn about android phone.
First of all, sorry for my bad english.
I have a problem with my razr maxx. I bought it on ebay (a used one). I use Razr/Maxx XT912 (Matt Droid Razr Utility) and now the phone is in bootloop.
This is the error message:
invalid flash mode (s) (boot failure)
0A.77
emmc info: seize 16gb
Device is LOCKED. STATUS CODE 0
battery ok.
ok to program
transfer mode:
usb connected
AND
Invalid cg otv (CG:system): invalid sp data
invalid cg version (cg:system)
invalid cg otv (cg:system)
I'm trying to resolve with this old thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524011
My phone model is xt910 type name m0c2e fcc id : ihdp56me2 ic id 109o-p56me2 and it has verizon apps. (i red the it on the back of the phone) BUT I also use the imei in the motorola's support to find out the model of the phone, and this is the answer: XT912 (Spyder LTE) (i also find a screen of the phone with some info -> see the attachments ). [the phone is only with motorola brand].So which is the right model? I also have (or better had) supersu already on it. I use it with a sim card (i use it with in gsm mode but it has also cdma mode. The languages are only spanish and english )
I arrive at this point ( from this "guide" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524011) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362956 but i don't know which one i must download.
ps.
i also tried:
1-download cdt.bin ( http://www.mediafire.com/?ua1nj6ds6r0vtue )
2-download fastboot files ( http://dfiles.eu/files/bih3tmg7b )
3-restart your phone in to bootloader ( fastboot ) mode
4-connect your phone via usb cable
5-open cmd.exe in your pc an go to fastboot files
6-flash cdt.bin via this command -------------------------------------- fastboot flash cdt.bin cdt.bin
7-restart your phone in to stock recovery
8-do triple wipe and restart your phone
and you can see the result in the attachments..
What can i do in order to resolve the bootloop? I'm desperate
Thank you
Hi!
Flash this rom with RSD Litehttp://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=9&file=788
Let me know if worked. You battery may be drained by this time, if so, you'll need to use a factory cable.
But, let me know if you could flash with RSD Lite first.
Cheers
i'm trying but it failed. (usb error at status 22/24 and 18/24). Now i repeat the action. I have the original cable and the phone is in fastboot flash mode
It's working ! THANK YOU!!!
In order to avoid the same problems, How can i change rom? (which one can i use ?) Which programs and apps do i need to use? Where i can find a guide? Which is the best way in order to improve the gsm signal?
Thank you,
Roncallica
An other idiot question. Now it is without supersu and it is locked. What can i do?

Hi!
Glad it's working first place. You'll find all you need just navigating throught the Development section. You have a root method easy to use to your phone, a safe to use recovery and a lot of kernells and roms to pick up onde of your choice.
Before doing anything like flashing roms or installing things be sure you've charged you phone, always. Remember Razr battery are not removable, so, if you brake it while doing some stuff you need no return to your previous rom and start all over again.
First step now? Root this thing!
Cheers
Do i have to use this guide? I mean in order to root xt912 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230140 or can i use this one? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIEO0pedtzE). Can i modify kernells and radio in order to obtain more gsm signal? i don't find a safe recovery for xt912 spider, what can i do? I have some problems with internet and it's a bit slow
thank you!
Having a simillar problem with my XT910, when I power it on it doesn't boot but goes straight to the error message saying
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Recipe Failure)
0A.77
eMMC Info: Size 16G
To returno to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED. Status code: 0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
If I try to flash ROM via RSDLite, it recognizes the phone but I got flashing error on the first step. If I press power to shut it down, then VOL+/- with Power key, and select Normal Powerup, in more than 90% phone goes to a bootloop, sometimes it boots normaly and then everything works. If I select BP HW Diag & Boot AP, it boots every time but when I try to connect it my PC asks for some drivers for Diag and so which are not installed on PC and the phone won't charge a battery when connected to a charger - everything else is working.
Phew, that was a long post! Any idea what might be a problem?
I forgot to mention that I bought the phone in this condition so I don't have a clue what a previous owner flashed (or tried to flash). Android version is official 4.1.2, system version 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU, build number 9.8.20-124_SPUEM-14.
