Invalid flash mode (s) (boot failure) + bootloop - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi all, I'm new in this forum but i read a lot of your thread in order to learn about android phone.
First of all, sorry for my bad english.
I have a problem with my razr maxx. I bought it on ebay (a used one). I use Razr/Maxx XT912 (Matt Droid Razr Utility) and now the phone is in bootloop.
This is the error message:
invalid flash mode (s) (boot failure)
0A.77
emmc info: seize 16gb
Device is LOCKED. STATUS CODE 0
battery ok.
ok to program
transfer mode:
usb connected
AND
Invalid cg otv (CG:system): invalid sp data
invalid cg version (cg:system)
invalid cg otv (cg:system)
I'm trying to resolve with this old thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524011
My phone model is xt910 type name m0c2e fcc id : ihdp56me2 ic id 109o-p56me2 and it has verizon apps. (i red the it on the back of the phone) BUT I also use the imei in the motorola's support to find out the model of the phone, and this is the answer: XT912 (Spyder LTE) (i also find a screen of the phone with some info -> see the attachments ). [the phone is only with motorola brand].So which is the right model? I also have (or better had) supersu already on it. I use it with a sim card (i use it with in gsm mode but it has also cdma mode. The languages are only spanish and english )
I arrive at this point ( from this "guide" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524011) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362956 but i don't know which one i must download.
ps.
i also tried:
1-download cdt.bin ( http://www.mediafire.com/?ua1nj6ds6r0vtue )
2-download fastboot files ( http://dfiles.eu/files/bih3tmg7b )
3-restart your phone in to bootloader ( fastboot ) mode
4-connect your phone via usb cable
5-open cmd.exe in your pc an go to fastboot files
6-flash cdt.bin via this command -------------------------------------- fastboot flash cdt.bin cdt.bin
7-restart your phone in to stock recovery
8-do triple wipe and restart your phone
and you can see the result in the attachments..
What can i do in order to resolve the bootloop? I'm desperate
Thank you

Hi!
Flash this rom with RSD Litehttp://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=9&file=788
Let me know if worked. You battery may be drained by this time, if so, you'll need to use a factory cable.
But, let me know if you could flash with RSD Lite first.
Cheers

i'm trying but it failed. (usb error at status 22/24 and 18/24). Now i repeat the action. I have the original cable and the phone is in fastboot flash mode

It's working ! THANK YOU!!!
In order to avoid the same problems, How can i change rom? (which one can i use ?) Which programs and apps do i need to use? Where i can find a guide? Which is the best way in order to improve the gsm signal?
Thank you,
Roncallica

An other idiot question. Now it is without supersu and it is locked. What can i do?

Hi!
Glad it's working first place. You'll find all you need just navigating throught the Development section. You have a root method easy to use to your phone, a safe to use recovery and a lot of kernells and roms to pick up onde of your choice.
Before doing anything like flashing roms or installing things be sure you've charged you phone, always. Remember Razr battery are not removable, so, if you brake it while doing some stuff you need no return to your previous rom and start all over again.
First step now? Root this thing!
Cheers

Do i have to use this guide? I mean in order to root xt912 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230140 or can i use this one? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIEO0pedtzE). Can i modify kernells and radio in order to obtain more gsm signal? i don't find a safe recovery for xt912 spider, what can i do? I have some problems with internet and it's a bit slow
thank you!

Having a simillar problem with my XT910, when I power it on it doesn't boot but goes straight to the error message saying
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Recipe Failure)
0A.77
eMMC Info: Size 16G
To returno to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED. Status code: 0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
If I try to flash ROM via RSDLite, it recognizes the phone but I got flashing error on the first step. If I press power to shut it down, then VOL+/- with Power key, and select Normal Powerup, in more than 90% phone goes to a bootloop, sometimes it boots normaly and then everything works. If I select BP HW Diag & Boot AP, it boots every time but when I try to connect it my PC asks for some drivers for Diag and so which are not installed on PC and the phone won't charge a battery when connected to a charger - everything else is working.
Phew, that was a long post! Any idea what might be a problem?
I forgot to mention that I bought the phone in this condition so I don't have a clue what a previous owner flashed (or tried to flash). Android version is official 4.1.2, system version 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU, build number 9.8.20-124_SPUEM-14.

Help needed - Razr stuck in Fastboot Screen

Hi there!
I have a problem with my Razr, and I am unable to solve it by myself for now...
Here is the story:
I live ion China, and got a Razr. Unfortunately, Market and several Google-basics are blocked. So i wanted to flash a EU version.
My original system details:
Sys Version - 65.136.1.XT910.ChinaRetail.en.CN
Webtop - WT_2.0_121_china_1.1.1
Build Nr - 6.5.1_GC-136-SPU-1
Build Date - Wed Dec 14 06:47:42 CST 2011
The flashing went wrong with RSDlite, this was the only result, from the very beginning onwards:
Failed flashing process, Failed flashing process. 1/11 flash cdt.bin "cdt.bin_signed" -> Phone returned FAIL; phone connected.
Later, i got the tip to only flash system via moto-fastboot.
The result was the following:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Boot Failure)
0A.60
Device id LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB Data Cable
Invalid CG OTV (CG: system): Invalid SP Data
Invalid CG HAB (CG: system, status: 0X0056)
Invalid CG OTV (CG: system)
I tried to flash ebr & mbr manually via moto-fastboot, the result is:
INFOpreflash validation failure
I have as well tried to flash all again with Fla**** from EternityProject, but unsuccessfull.
The phone is stuck on the fastboot screen, battery is empty, factory cable is existing and working, but no flashing-attempts are working.
Is anybody out there who had/has the same problem and/or knows how to solve it?
I am looking forward to your suggestions and comments!
This thing is way to expensive to end as a paperweight...
If you hold down both Volume buttons while turning on the phone, can you enter Recovery mode?
If you see a yellow triangle with an Android in the center, press both volume buttons again to progress to the next screen, then try the factory reset.
i can go to the selection screen.
If i select recovery, it shows the M -logo for about 30sec.
Then it comes back to the fastboot screen, showing boot failure.
At least you can enter FastBoot mode, not all is lost yet.
When you run Fla****, does it complete successfully or give an error?
I'm no expert with Motorola phones but I would try to get it back to stock as much as possible and go from there.
I suggest you wipe the data and cache, then download the full 65.136.1.XT910.ChinaRetail.en.CN ROM (the original one that came with the phone) and flash that with RSD or Fla**** and see how that goes.
If you upgraded the Radio, put the original back on as well.
Flashing the system is no problem
But nothing else works:
Flashing logo - no such partition
flashing ebr, mbr, devtree - fail
The result is the same, no matter if i use moto-fastboot or fla****.
Wipe data and cache might not be necessary, since the phone was pretty new - please correct me if i am wrong here!
I have difficulties finding the ROM somewhere, google didn't give me any downloadable results.

Same thing occured to me, that is because of motorola's different region signature. unfortunatly you can not flash via fastboot or RSD any offical rom with different signature from the original one for your phone, trust me I have tried all the possible ways. To unbrick your phone now, you'll have to select the right fastboot rom for your phone and flash via RSD or Eternity's Fla****. hope have helped.
Sorry for my poor english. I'm from Brazil
There maybe a solution for you mate! I've found something here:
http://bbs.gfan.com/android-3465473-1-1.html
There's someone with the same error code as yours. And he is saved by changing the radio version to 83P and then flash the Australia SBF Fastboot file. Read more information on the link i provided.
Good luck!
p.s. My XT910S is bricked, my error code is 0x004E <=-- if you find the solution for me please let me know. Many thanks!
I am now unpacking the CN retail, and will start a first attempt to flash as soon it's ready.
Will let you know the outcome.
Unfortunately, flashing back to CN retail did not work as well.
Fla**** cannot load anything, starting from ebr_signed...
RSDLite returns a Fail after 1/14.

Did you try this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362956
Hope your phone will be normal soon!
Good luck!
yes, i tried...
i returned it to the shop, and told them the battery drained over night and it didn't charge and start anymore.
might get it back today - i am preparing myself for a outstanding theater play.
This morning I experimented fastboot boot, and unfortunately, RAZR did not supports booting boot.img from memory, which I always use on N1.
The flashing failed and it cannot boot normally. It went to Fastboot mode with "Flash Failure". Then I;
1) Switch OFF
2) Push Vol Up + Vol Down while power up
3) Select Normal boot from boot menu
It went fine, but I need to do it again, if I reboot the phone, because it will goes to Fastboot mode again.
But, .... I discovered something else...
1) Power OFF
2) Push Vol down while power up
It boots into Fastboot mode, but, WITHOUT the "Flash Failure" message. I read somewhere in Bionic forum, and they suggested to flash something to remove the error message. In this mode, I flashed radio.img, the same version which I currently use. 85P. It goes into flashing mode (unboxing droid), and rebooted successfully. I tried rebooting the phone several times , and it boots normally again.
Hope this is helpful...
As usual, do it at YOUR OWN RISK!. I am not responsible to any problem related to this tips.
Thank you.
XT910, Asian, SEAOP
I got my razr back from Motorola yesterday.
For some reason, they replaced it without any charge - they even had told me, that there was foreign software parts on the device...
Don't ask me why they exchanged it!
So:
Problem has not been solved, but still solved.
people i'm having this probleme now
Oha...
Then, good luck... Since I had the problem a few months ago, and it was never solved until today, I doubt that there is a way out. I had a lot of good ideas from the german site "android hilfe", but unfortunately as well nothing really helped in the end.
-
But, it must be possible to fix it, since the guys from motorola china were able to flash back to original rom. Afterwards they replaced my phone for no obvious reason, apparently the battery really had suffered.
For the beginning, you might need the factory cable to stay able to flash when your battery is low. From my own experience the phone will not charge anymore at a certain point.
I wish you good luck, hope this issue can be solved now.
I suffer from this similair problem all the time, RSD lite just wont work most of the time. Why I dont know, and Fla**** wont either. The way I get around it is to get a compatible fastboot for my phone, extract it and open the xml file with notepad. Then go through the commands in the xml file starting with the "<step operation=flash" it sends to fastboot maually..
example:
<step operation="flash" partition="mbm" filename="allow_mbmloader_flashing_mbm.bin"
would be "fastboot flash mbm allow_mbmloader_flashing_mbm.bin"
<step operation="reboot-bootloader" />
would be "fastboot reboot-bootloader
and on and on until the last "step operation" and finally fastboot reboot(not there in xml file but reboots the phone).
That always works for me when I am stuck at the Flash Failure screen and cant get it to flash normally.
I'm trying that method myself right now...but I'm getting stuck on the system.img again...
=(

Hey,
What is your razr model please?
Please flash a rom using the alternative flashing method (fla****) by the eternity project and that error will be gone.

Opening the back cover will destroy the waterproof seal! Seriously you don't want to do this. There's an easy method.
AFAIK, most of the time this error appears on unsuccessful fastboot command. For example, you can get this error by running this command
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
It will spit Info Command restricted! then you'll get this "Flash Failure" error on every boot up.
To clear it ,all you need is to do a successful fastboot command. Assuming you don't do something like
Code:
fastboot erase xxxx
then there's no need to do full flash. The simplest way I know is to do
Code:
fastboot flash radio empty_radio.img
fastboot restart
It seems this command write to the cache partition(unsigned) & trigger recovery mode.
Once in recovery, Press Vol-Up & Vol-Down simultaneously.
Then select reboot now.
Hope I'm clear & it help somebody.
Attached is the empty_radio file. (There's nothing inside, just ext3 partition with empty recovery folder)
Simply flash radio.img which has the same baseband version or other ROMs. Upon a successful flashing, the 'Flash failure'error message will be cleared.
Good luck

Alright thanks mate,, can't wait to get rid of this problem
Edit:
Well the problem solved itself, though i am not quite sure how. i was using a walkie-talkie at work
and just happened to have my phone right next while talking at one point and when i wanted to turn on
the screen, nothing happened. it wouldn't power on at all, not even with the simulated battery-pull.
so i got my charger and when i plugged it in, the charging screen came up, without fastboot beforehand.
also it said my battery was at 5% when i was sure it was almost full just before. i powered up the phone,
again no fastboot-screen. when it was booted, the battery level was back to normal, but the date reset to 13.01.12
and time to 11:00. i put those right, and bam: everything was cool again. i reproduced this by pushing the talk button on
the walkie-talkie again with about 5cm distance to the phone and sure enough, the same thing happened, even the date/time reset.
so my phone is fine now. anyone care to elaborate how that might have worked?

Hey, I am in the same situation!! Luckily, I have one solution. This is the only way to get out of it as far as I know. So, you need to buy a Motorola Factory cable for your XT912. They are very cheap. Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=motorola+factory+cable&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Once you have received the cable, read here on how to use it to unbrick your XT912 (just scroll down for instructions) : http://www.usbstyle.com/cables/motorola-droid-razr-xt912-factory-cable-for-fastboot-mode-unroot-unbrick-rooted/
NOTE: The Factory Cable is NOT for charging!!! The Factory Cable bypasses the "Battery Low" message (when plugged into PC), so then you put it into AP Fastboot and run Razr Utility 1.8.2! Hope I helped!
Thanks for the help! I might have to try that option... Did you see the method to charge in fastboot? It's the link on my post. I was just thinking that if I got it to charge (so that I don't have to buy the cable to bypass the battery low thing), could I fix it?
You dont need the cable. I was in the same situation and the way I fixed it was to plug the phone into a outlet. Then restart the phone - hold down both the up and down buttons, and then the power button. Wait about 10 secs....after the screen flashes and turns black, do the same thing. You should now be able to select which mode to boot into. Select NORMAL BOOT. This should give you the red Motorola screen and then the charging battery screen. Wait until fully charged and then restart phone. After restarting again and going into the boot select screen, then you can select AP FASTBOOT and everything should be fine
I had this issue the other day when trying to flash JB. Took me about 2 days to get it going again but run a google search for empty radio or something like that just fast boot flash the empty radio file then fastboot flash the system.img manually and reboot and you should be good to go
Eighthourblink, I tried doing that technique but when I booted using the "normal" method the M logo popped up for a split second, then the AP Fastboot menu came up again with the same error as before. At the top where it normally says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)" it says "AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure). Pretty much I can't do anything other than access the fastboot screen. I think the reason is that when I tried using the Razr Utility (1.6 - option 2) the system files did not get transferred before the battery low error came up.
cyphrmatrix: I tried using RSD Lite to flash files over to the phone, but it will not recognize my phone. I installed the drivers correctly and the computer recognized my phone (I used to be able to use Droid Razr Utility without a problem), but for some reason RSD Lite won't find my device.
I got my phone fixed! After a week of research and failed attempts at restoring the phone back to normal, I finally found a solution. I bought Team Black Hat's factory cable converter (in order to bypass the low battery) and had to use DroidRazrUtility 1.8 in order to do the full restore. My initial problem was that I used really old software to restore the phone (DroidRazrUtility 1.42) and it just crapped out on me. Hope no one has to ever have this problem!

[Q] Stuck in Bootloop/Failed Flash

I was able to root my droid then I was going to try to unlock the boot loader so I could flash a custom ROM. Well the owner of the phone couldn't get it to unlock so he tried flashing CM using RSD.
It failed, it was stuck on this screen;
Invalid Flash Mode (S) (Flash failure)
0A.6C
To return to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery Low
Cannot Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
So I used this walkthrough to try and remedy the problem;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625
Then I started getting this screen;
Invalid Flash Mode (S) (boot failure)
0A.6C
To return to normal mode - first press power key to power down
Device is LOCKED, Status Code:0
Battery Low
Cannot Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Invalid CG OTV (CC: System): Invalid SP Data
Invalid CG Version (CC: System)
Invalid CG OTV (CC: System)
After a lot of reading, I found out I'd need a factory cable to remedy the situation. I believe the phone is wiped and can't boot into an OS and that is why it is getting stuck. So I used the following links to build my own;
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/146492-how-why-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077414
After completing the cable and plugging it in I am now getting this screen;
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure)
0A.66
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
At this point I believe I fixed his problem, keep in mind, I'm coming into this process after it got stuck in the fastboot loop. So I start trying to use the following link to unlock the bootloader so I can try to flash back to stock(which by the way, I can't for the life of me find a stock ROM to flash).
I am using this link https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I installed the latest Motorola drivers, I then installed Android SDK tools through the command prompt, I am now trying to get the device ID of the phone so I can unlock it and flash a ROM.
Even though I installed the Moto drivers, my computer isn't detecting the device, it is coming up as unknown in the device manager, I was going to manually assign the drivers to the USB device but I can't find the 32bit drivers to do that and what I downloaded from MOTO is an .exe that installs, I'm assuming several drivers for different devices.
Now I went into the command prompt to see if fastboot.exe can see the device plugged in, because prior to this fastboot problem his computer would at least show his IMEI even though he couldn't get it to display the unlock data.
I'm not getting anything, I'm guessing the jump to PIN 1 to 4 is correct but it doesn't know it's plugged into a computer? Even though my computer knows SOMETHING is plugged in. I'm lost, rooting and building ROMS for my Samsung devices was so much easier.

You will need to build a factory cable using the links I posted or buy a factory cable. They are $10 on eBay. The factory cable bypasses looking for a battery and will let you flash a rom. I get the "Battery OK, OK to Program" on my phone but it isn't showing up on my computer, that's my issue.
Try THis
If you are having trouble changing the battery while stuck at the Fash Failure Screen
Try this - Plug in the phone to a AC outlet. While at the Flash Failure screen, Hold down the Volume Up and Power button at the same time to turn off the phone. After the phone flashes (turns off), let go of the buttons and then quickly hold down both the up and down buttoms and the power button. A new menu will appear, with many different options (boot options). Select [Normal Powerup]. this will try to boot up the phone, notice it is low on battery, and start charging. IT will change to the screen with a outline of a battery being charged.
Hope this helps

^^Not my problem at all.
So I bought the factory cable, it came in today and the device registers on my computer as MOT Single ADB Interface.
I also get this when I check for devices using command.
C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\androidsdk\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot.exe devices
01547AE90900B014 fastboot
I still can't get this command to work;
C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\androidsdk\sdk\platform-tools>fastboot.exe oem get_unlock_
data
...
FAILED (remote: unsupported command)
finished. total time: 0.006s
I tried flashing the XML file that I believe is stock and it fails; I attached it as rsdscreen.jpg
I'm completely lost, hoping someone can shed some light. At this point, I don't even care if it is a stock ROM or a custom ROM, I just want something that works.
Phone fixed
I FIXED MY PROBLEM!!
I bought the factory cable on eBay and rebooted into fastboot mode.
Like for cable;
Can't post link because I'm a new user, if you want the link PM me.
Then I downloaded Matt Groff's Utility here;
Can't post link because I'm a new user, if you want the link PM me.
Followed the instructions, got the phone back to stock ICS
Phone had to be wiped using his utility but I don't care, phone is unbricked and all my pictures and stuff are on the SD card anyways. Kudos to Matt Groff.

---Warning, this is to flash to verizon factory and i will not claim any damages done to your device, i am just telling you what i have done to my phone that happened to work for me---
THIS IS FOR CDMA NOT GSM
you can access fast boot correct?
if you can follow these steps they worked for me
first off, follow this and/or buy a factory cable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20571009
that will fix any battery problem, it will bypass the battery/charging circuitry
download the droid razr utility http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/12777-droid-razr-utility-xt912-jellybean-windows-mac-linux-all-in-one/ and download / unzip it (preferable to the desktop it does not really matter as long as you can find it)
once you download that install the included drivers, if you have them already installed, update/repair them
next download the newest version of RSD lite (i am using v5.7) however it is encluded with the download for the utility (it is 6.1.4) you should have no problem
connect your device via usb, and start it in fast boot mode
then open rsd lite, on the bottom portion your device should show up in the first slot, select it.
next click the three dots in the top middle and browse to the location you have unzipped the razr utility, there should be a file called "cdma_spyder_9.8.2O-72_VZW-16_1ff" double click this and then click start
this should pass without a problem and then congrats your phone will be unbricked
---WARNING---
this flashes to verizon factory
and
yet again i do not claim any responsibility for damages done to your phone

now your battery is low.
and your problem is system files like cdt.bin you have to flash this file via fastboot. BUT first solve the low battery problem
first you have to find a motorola factory cable. because if your battery level is low you can not flash any program via fastboot. If you have not factory cable you can make a factory cable . for this ask google ( http://lmgtfy.com/?q=motorola+factory+cable+video)
when you solve low battery problem than fallow instructions
please read instructions.
1-download cdt.bin ( http://www.mediafire.com/?ua1nj6ds6r0vtue )
2-download fastboot files ( http://dfiles.eu/files/bih3tmg7b )
3-restart your phone in to bootloader ( fastboot ) mode
4-connect your phone via usb cable

6-flash cdt.bin via this command -------------------------------------- fastboot flash cdt.bin cdt.bin
7-restart your phone in to stock recovery
8-do triple wipe and restart your phone or flash your rom via rsd lite in to fastboot mode

I tried that but failed what i did was, xtracted the fasboot files and than copied the cdt.bin in that folder where i extraced fastboot files. In the photo attached is the response i got in the end Says
Sending 'cdt.bin' <16KB>
OKAY [0.007s]
writing 'cdt.bin'
Preflash Validation Failure
FAILED <remote: >
Finished. total time: 0.223s
In RSD Lite, Proess fails at step 6 where it says fails while flashing cdt.bin so seems like problem is with that.
Also i put the phone on charge and it said Battery OK even after i removed wall charger and attached datacable and it stayed Battery OK while i was doing all this. So seems like no battery issue for now
