How to unlock sim after installing official 4.12 german jellybean plz help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I just upgraded from gingerbread to official german 4.12 jellybean
I9100XWLSD_I9100XXLS8_I9100DBTLS7_HOME.tar.md5
via odin.
The installation went fine but now the phone got sim locked and it asks for a network code. I saw a couple of Galaxy S sim unlock apps on the playstore but none of them work (except for the one which has the [root] prefix in it which I haven't tried since the phone isn't rooted). So I was wondering how can I unlock it? Thx in advance guys

afaik you need root to unlock it.

It's rooting time.

Ok but what method should I use? There seem to be so many around I'm getting kinda confused. As far as I can tell the custom kernel method seems to be the easiest way to get it right? And how do I know which kernel should I use?

Well actually it's not my phone, it's from my little brother and I upgraded it remotely with teamviewer. I've rooted my own gt-i9305 with a prerooted rom with odin so is there something like that for the s2, and if there isn't what's the easiest way to get root on the s2 and what should I do after that?

If you don't root it, you won't unlock it and well, he's not gonna be able to use it as a phone.
Flash a custom kernel or flash cwm + su + busybox

Yeah I figured I pretty much have to root it now to get anywhere but wasn't sure if that's all I have to do or will there be something else.

Having a problem- can't seem to root
Hey guys- I have a question/problem.
I updated via Kies as well. I didn't like the stock ROM, so I wanted to go back to "The Unofficial" that I was using before. However I can't find the right thread to get mine rooted for some reason. Can somebody point me to the right one please? I'm still fairly new at this and trying to get the hang of it.
Thanks!

I tried to the Odin root method after upgrading to the official ICS. It wouldn't boot. It got stuck at SAMSUNG logo.

No.
Once you have CWM you can flash any Rom...You would only need root of you wanted to run that firmware....rooting with cwm before you flash a Rom is an exercise in futility...the Rom itself will be rooted one flashed.

That's because you just flashed a gingerbread kernel on an ics Rom.
The gingerbread root .tar is for gingerbread only...
Solved! Thank you,

How to root? Unlocked BL & JB. Xperia GO

As title says really...
I read all 300 odd pages of bin4ry's thread yesterday and it seems that the easy root via restore method does not work with JB on the Xperia Go.
Are there other ways to root as I am lost how to do it at the moment? As my phone has unlocked BL I know I can flash pre-rooted custom roms but I'd quite like to play around with the stock rom first.
Any help appreciated...

Is there no other way? I don't want to use munjeni's kernel as it makes my phone run so slow :crying: I guess I could do that method and then flash another kernel but seems a bit long-winded...

[Q] Can i use Cyanogenmod Installer to install custom roms other than cyanogenmod ?

As the title says, I am asking whether i can use cyanogenmod installer via play store to unlock bootloader. I have stock rom and I want to install 4.4 roms and i got sick of waiting for samsung to release an update. So i am asking if I used cyanogenmod installer to unlock the device and then unroot by myself. After then can i install other custom roms just by flashing them? Is this a safe course to follow or do you suggest it would be better to follow one of the guides that shows how to install custom roms on S3 from start(stock rom)?

S3 has already unlocked bootloader from default. You just need to root your device, flash a recovery and flash a ROM through recovery. Easy

Depends how you update. Just don't update with ota or pc companion.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2
2 Root phone
3 Install recovery for locked bootloader
4 Flash rooted 4.4.4 zip in recovery
5 latest firmware and root remains
I am new to Sony devices (been a Samsung guy for years). I have had my Z2 less than a fortnight but already I'm itching to root it etc, problem is it seems a lot more complicated than Samsung devices. I was always switching between roms on my S4/note 2. I am on the latest firmware and would like to root it to be able to use xposed but I'm scared of messing it up and as the phone is under warranty don't want to end up with a paper weight.
Has anyone done a detailed tutorial for newbies like myself?
Thanks in advance
Scotty.

It's not really that hard and there are also of resources online that can guide you.
1 Downgrade to 4.4.2 is required as noone had found a vulnerability with 4.4.4.
2 Root phone
For step 1 and 2, Have a look at this http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z2-xda-developer-tv/
3 install recovery for lock bootloader
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
4 install a 4.4.4 zip through recovery. I recommend this one as its basically stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/stock-4-4-4-23-0-1-0-167-bug-free-t2929402

It depends on how you want to root, you can root and permanently void your warrentg or you can root and keep your bootloader locked
