[Q] GSM RAZR - bricked after the OTA - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hello guys,
Let me preface this with the fact that I have been searching this forum for the past hour and could not find anything pertinent for my situation.
I've updated to the latest GSM OTA (the Vodafone EU one) and all was great, decided to reboot my phone and got into a bootloop. I don't have a recovery to boot from and going to be short on battery soon.
The way I see it, I'm stuck with a bricked phone until the RSD package for the OTA is released. Is that correct? am I missing anything?
Can anyone point me to a relevant thread where I can catch a break?
Cheers!

How did you fixed it?
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium

Please tell us how you fixed this, i have same problem but i already screwed it up more by trying to flash back to ics after i was stuck at boot on JB vodafone. Now i have bricked phone and i wait for Fastboot files, which we dont know when will come out

Got the same problem here

Alright, here goes.
I am not responsible to whatever happens to your phones. This process is described for the Vodafone OTA.
Also, you will lose root
I'm guessing your phones are in a constant bootloop right about now. If they are, you have to make sure you still have some battery left so that on AP Fastboot it shows battery OK. If you don't, follow the guides here to get more juice or get a 'factory cable' and charge your phone.
To download:
- Fastboot from here: http://dfiles.eu/files/bih3tmg7b
- OTA kernel (here: http://d-h.st/xat )
- The whole OTA here ON YOUR SDCARD
- original ICS RSD Image here
Process:
Extract the fastboot somewhere accessible like c:/fastboot
Extract the kernel and the original ICS files on your desktop
Copy the OTA kernel (boot_3.0.8-g7198280) to your c:/fastboot folder
Copy 'system_signed' from the original ICS archive to your fastboot folder
Open the command prompt (search for cmd.exe in your programs)
Navigate to c:/fastboot (use "cd .." to excape a folder and "dir" to list the files in a folder )
Go to AP fastboot on your phpne and do the following from the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot_3.0.8-g7198280.img
fastboot flash system system_signed
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now restart your phone and enter recovery the normal way volUp+volDown + power button then select Recovery, then volUp+volDown to see the menu.
Do a factory reset
Flash the OTA (that should be on your card)
Reboot
Ta-da!
If after the whole process you get a flash failure when rebooting your phone, use this guide to get rid of that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634223
If this helped you, please show the 'Thanks' button some love. Also, post here if you run into trouble, DO NOT PM!

That's weird. Prolly the flash was messed up somewhere..
Try this before "fastboot flash boot boot_3.0.8-g7198280.img":
extract recovery_signed and allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin from the ICS folder and put them into the fastboot folder
do this
fastboot flash mbm allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed
Let me know if that works

Well i give you thumbs up and thanks for you helping hand, however it still doesnt work gives preflashvalidation failure on system_signed flashing. If you have some more ideas it would be really nicce to try, meanwhile i think we will just have to wait for fastboot files. Verizon version for xt912 got FF already maybe we will get ours in a week or so.

Use this method .. Hsd pilot again nailed it to save our asses ..

For your information, I managed to unbrick my phone. Problem seemed to be my CID.IMG. After erasing it, I could enter recovery and installl JB from ext-sdcard. Now I have to use BP Tools tools to boot, because as soon as I restore CID, the device doesn't boot.
Really strange, because my phone is actually from Europe (d/a/ch), Switzerland. Maybe it's due to the fact that I switched to the chinese JB Ota leak before updating to the EU leak.

[Q] Update with an unlock bootloader

Hi,
I just wanted to know if I can update my atrix (Bell) to 2.3.4 (official) if I have an unlocked bootloader and Rom Manager (CWM 4.0.1.5) without brick my phone ?
Thank you in advance
Yes, download official OTA to your PC.
moto-fastboot boot.img, system.img, radio.img... reboot --- >>> done
You are on official OTA withut screwing up your bootloader.
Thank you very much, but where can I donwload it ???
And "moto-fastboot boot.img, system.img, radio.img... reboot --- >>> done" does not tell me much

Get moto-fastboot from here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092
Download Bell GB radio from here -
http://www.multiupload.com/0ZECKA3QZ1
Download ATT system and boot from here (they will work fine on your phone) -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
You can also use the flashing instructions form the above thread, except add the radio from first step, and your instructions will look like this:
1. extract moto-fastboot to your C: drive
2. place the downloaded radio.img, system.img and boot.img in the moto-fastboot folder
3. boot your phone into fastboot mode by holding down the bottom volume button while pressing power, press volume button up, wait for it to say "starting fastboot protocol".
4. connect your phone to your PC (make sure the USB drivers are installed)
5. go to moto-fastboot folder, right click while holding shift, select "open command prompt here"
6. type in "moto-fastboot devices" ENTER, make sure your phone is recognized.
7. then:
moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
moto-fastboot flash system system.img
moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img
moto-fastboot -w
moto-fastboot reboot
8. Done.
Oh god, thank you so much, I love you (no homo) !!
well, it doesn't seem to work.. what about if i do the OTA update... Will I get bricked ?
Anyways with android 2.3.4 I'll always be able to unlock the bootloader again...

Could you elaborate which step exactly didn't work? I am sure it's fixable.
P.S. I also found an easier way of updating. There is a CWM update file of a 2.3.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195922
This one is slightly modded, but very easy - just flash it through CWM, wipe data and reboot.

You can SBF flash to 2.2.2, and the "Unlocked" text will disappear from the boot screen, that is if you don't HARD BRICK.
This is the only way, but THERE IS A VERY HIGH CHANCE OF HARD BRICKING.
So, I don't recommend it unless you know what you are doing.
What is the condition you might hard brick? I have an ATT attrix that the wifi/Bluetooth chip is faulty and I need to get a replacement. Worst case is I return it with the unlocked bootloader.

I originally unlocked with pudding and then ran the HKTW build. After that I used custom roms via cwm...never did an official update. So I should technically be safe right?
If I sbf to 1.8.3, can I get back to 2.3.4 using cwm? I don't lose the unlock right?

Yes, technically, you are safe.
If you sbf to 1.8.3 you will have to reflash pudding. SBFing messes up the unlock.

Download this exact version of moto-fastboot - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=635584&d=1308928440
(remove the one you currently have except for the .img files).
Extract it to C: directory and then do the "moto-fasboot" commands, they will work.
Updating via OTA will most likely work, but it will mess up the bootloader (you will not longer be Unlocked) + you won't be able to flash back.
So, the way i proposed is safer. For starters, you can flash the boot.img and system. img only via moto-fastboot (It's all you really need).
moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
moto-fastboot flash system system.img
moto-fasboot -w
moto-fastboot reboot
You will then have a fresh 2.3.4 stock system. If everything is alright, you can update the radio.img as well, and webtop.img if you use it.

Hi there:
I when through and flash the 85P in the Latin America firmware from Brasil that is posted in the forum. The flash apparently did when through, the phone rebooted, enter the recovery mode with the little android, it changed to a triangle with an exclamation sign and later on rebooted just fine and I have signal. In the about phone, the baseband number still appears as the old one. Is that a sign that the flash does not indeed when through, or it is just a build.pro thing. Any code on the dialer to check what baseband is running on the phone??
[Q] # fastboot flash radio new_radio.img ? YES YOU CAN! :)
Is it possible to use Android SDK's tool; fastboot ?
Of course the RAZR is in AP Fastboot mode. . I am only using GNU/Linux and usually I use the fastboot tool to flash my N1's radio.
Example
Code:
# fastboot flash radio new_radio.img
Updates:
YES! I able to flash the radio with the fastboot method.
Anyway, do it at your own risk!.
Thank you.

Sure, you can do that,

I flashed it with fastboot but same thing happen. I got a ok sending and writing radio at cmd and the phone booted to the little android screen. The bar started to fill up, at haft of it the icon changed to a triangle with an exclamation point. After some second it rebooted and in the about I still have the same old baseband information from the Latin American Fastboot file that is here in the forums, not the new one as 85P.

2nd question:
Is it possible to downgrade the firmware after installing higher version of the firmware.
Example:
If my current radio firmware version is ...78P and upgraded to 85P. Then, I want to downgrade to 73P again... is this possible?
Tips:
To make life easier, you can put the RAZR directly into AP Fastboot mode using # adb reboot bootloader while the RAZR is up running.
In my case, after the fastbott flash ... RAZR displayed the Android robot and open box, with progress bar. After few minutes, it restarted normally.
Remember to md5sum the radio.img file before flashing. The md5 value is in the .xml file.

cflo360 when I get to fastboot flash zip jb_hboot.zip it gets an erroe that says failed remote: 99 unknown fail. Any ideas? Would it be possible to just put a rom on another sd card and flash it?

Pull your battery.. reinsert and hold volume down and the power button. Make sure phone is plugged in or replug in phone if you took it off to reboot. Should be in Hboot now, press power to select fastboot if it is white lettering over blue background. If it is red background your already in fastboot and if connected should say fastbootusb.
1. open a copy of the rom your on either with 7 zip or since your not adding anything to it unzip it .
2. find the folder that says kernel, now you will either see a PH98IMG.zip or you will see a file that his white with a silver circle called boot. That is the raw boot.img. If it is the ph zip simply unzip it and you will see the boot.img.
3. Now , remove the boot.img and place it in the same folder your fastboot is located , generally the place you unlocked with.
4. Then, bring up a command prompt the same way you did to unlock. change directory if needed by cd c:\thenthenameofthefoldrecontainingfastboot.
5. Simply type fastboot boot boot.img
6. you will see sending " size of img".. receiving "size of img ", then writing .. and it will end and tell you how many seconds it took.
Now, simply use the reboot selection from bootloader or with the command prompt type abd reboot and your phone should reboot and you will be back on your rom.
The reason you keep booting to the jBear screen is because the jBear process replaced your KERNEL. You need to find the kernel img file for YOUR operating system or ROM. If you are on GB, find a GB kernel. If on the ICS Leak, you need to find the ICS Leak kernel. If on a ROM, get that ROM's kernel file.
Then the commands on the PC are:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Another option is to use Hansoon's Rezound All-in-one-kit to flash the stock kernel for you.

no offense, but if you honestly cannot at least search to figure out how to do a fastboot command as simple as fastboot flash, then you should stay clear of s-off...
but that's my opinion.
and I'm really not saying this to be an ass.
just don't want to see you brick your phone.

XT909 IS12M unbrick solution

Ive been finding a solution to unbrick my xt909...,
at first Ive thought that I can flash my device with a xt910 firmware but it came out that Ive bricked my phone
flash failure/boot failure and cannot even access to recovery mode
Here's what I did:
using RSD Lite I flash the device with an empty radio.img to rid out the boot failure and again flash my device using the droid razr utility 1.7
with 6.16.211..., it came out to be successful and now I can manage to boot my device recovery mode...
but... My problem is when everytime I update my device with any 6.16.211 update.zip I get a "signature verification failed"
Help here please

atleast 80% battery
droid rarz utility 1.7
rsd lite
fastboot.exe or any fastboot command line tool
and some patience
1st - extract droid razr utility and find the mbmloader named " allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm"
2nd - enter fastboot and flash the mbm... here's how
( fastboot.exe flash mbmloader allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin)
3rd - reboot
( fastboot.exe reboot-bootloader)
4th - erase the Contact I.D No.
(fastboot.exe erase cid) (fastboot.exe reboot-bootloader)
of course with a erased CID you'll never be able to turn on your phone into normal mode but still can gain access to fastboot
5th - download and flash the XT912 fastboot file
HTML:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_spyder/VRZ_XT912_6.7.2-180_DHD-16_M4-31_1FF.xml.zip
6th - just wait and have some coffee
and youre done...,

No, you're stuck now with BP Tools. You can install BM and set the custom init to boot without BP Tools.

could u help me?
hi,19lilsaiNt68.
I have a KDDI IS12M cellphone just like you. And I also bricked it.
In your way,I tried to flash the file "allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin", but I got a error message said:" INFOimage bigger than partition / Failed". However, the command "fastboot flash mbm allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin " Can be executed. Then I erased my CID and I tried to flash XT912 fastboot file. In this step:"flash devtree",the screen showed the message:validation failure.
That is my biggest problem and now I don't know how to fix it. Could you help me? Thanks a lot!

Are you Encode from twit?
The problem is you flashed an ICS Rom. Try that first:
Boot into stock recovery and perform a factory reset. If it boots, ok. If it doesn't boot you should flash Jelly Bean. Just grab that one from VZW at sbf.droid-developers.org.
DON'T FLASH EU JB! Otherwise you won't be able to DOWNGRADE or switch to another region rom because it has the highest secure version compared to all others.
This is VZW JB: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_spyder/cdma_spyder_9.8.2O-72_VZW-16_1ff.xml.zip

How to update you Razr (Gsm) To Official Jelly Bean

Before I say anything I would like to thank these great people whirleyes, dtrail, hashcode for their awesome work !!
Special thanks to my awesome friend HSD-Pilot.
We all know Motorola by mistake pushed out jb 4.1.2 ota update for the Droid Razr in U.S., but soon they pulled down the update. Now we can get that OTA working in Our GSM Razrs. All you need to do is read this thread, and if you want more help, see the video.
I am not responsible if anything Happens to your Phone.
Before we begin let me tell you all the pre-requirements:-
1. Reflash ICS in your device using the fastboot files.
2. Your device must be rooted.
3. Download all the files
3.1 mbm.bin file
3.2 Jelly Bean Kernel
3.3 Jelly Bean GSM Patch
3.4 Jelly Bean OTA
3.5 Fastboot
4. Download Terminal Emulator and Bootmenu Manager from the Play store
5. A good battery Life
Procedure
1.Backup your cid using terminal emulator.
code: dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p18 of=/sdcard/cid.img (remember this code is case sensitive, copy the code correctly with proper and exact spaces in the lines)
Q. Why to do that?
A. You cannot flash kernel from different region because is protected by MOTO.
When you erase CID partition you can flash US kernel to EU device
every single one device has unique CID number so you have to backup CID partition before you erase it. If you not backup you're not able to restore your unique CID number and you can only boot your device via Power ON + Vol+ Vol- then BP Tools.
This is temporary solution, when Moto release European 4.1.2 most of us restore CID from Backup then we will flash EU kernel and EU system.
2. Then transfer it to a safe place.
3. Once done switch your phone off and then boot into ap fastboot mode.
4. Then erase your cid while your phone is in ap fastboot mode.
code: fastboot flash mbm allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cid
5. Once done reboot your phone up using bptools, switch it off again and then again go into fastboot mode
6. This time flash the jb kernel.
code: fastboot flash boot boot_jb.img
7. After flashing JB kernel reboot again using the bp tools, and when the android icon appears double tap custom recovery to select it.
8. Wipe cache, dalvik cache and data, then go to mounts and storage>mount system and then mount data.
9. Flash jb ota and and dtrail's gsm patch.
10. Then go into system keeper>install hijack, then reboot option>power off phone.
11. Then again select bp tools and reboot.
12. Profit jb
After the update, if you guys want to use some other language other than english and spanish, see this app.
If you guys want to go back to ICS, then
Video will be released when XT910 gets Official JB, so that I can show the full process at once!
1. Flash the fastboot files using rsd lite
2.Then enter into recovery and wipe your data and cache.
3.Power off your phone Reboot using bp tools
3. Root your device
Remember while rooting when the tool reboots your device press the vol- and vol at the same time when the phone switches off to enter in boot menu mode and reboot using bp tools mode, other wise u will see a black screen everytime you reboot.
4. Once done restore your cid using terminal emulator.
code: dd if=/sdcard/cid.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk1p18
If you guys are facing troubles in boot menu mode like the flash failure then see this thread
Link To Videos (The video was big so I divided into two parts)
Part1 (Contains Info up to step 4)
Part2 (Contains info onwards step 4)
Edit: After updating to jb, update your bmm to v0.3.4 whirleyes has nailed it again with his work, u can now boot up using power button and USB storage also works properly...
Installation For Latest Jb,i.e, US JB And Vodafone Jb On your Razr.
Before we begin let me congratulate to this fella, artur0588 for his epic work and support.
Now moving on with the procedure for updating to these version, they are pretty much the same, it's just that you have to choose which update you want to install.
I am running the US JB one currently on my phone.
Before we begin let me tell you all the pre-requirements:-
1. You need to install the latest bmm on your phone using the playsotre. If you are bricked then re flash ics using fastboot files or if you still have the latest bmm installed, follow with the procedure.
2. Rooted phone
3. Good Battery Life
4.Download all the files
4.1 Fastboot
4.2 US JB Kernel or Vodafone JB Kerne
4.3 Vodafone JB or US JB
4.4 mbm.bin file
Procedure
1. Backup your cid using terminal emulator or using bmm (go into Firmware flashing>Backup CID)
code: dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p18 of=/sdcard/cid.img (remember this code is case sensitive, copy the code correctly with proper and exact spaces in the lines)
2. Then transfer it to a safe place.
3. Then erase your cid while your phone is in ap fastboot mode or using bmm (go into Firmware flashing>Erase CID)
code: fastboot flash mbm allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cid
If you have already erased your cid and backed it up there is no need to do the above things
4. Once done switch off your phone by hitting the power button and then flash the JB kernel by booting into fastboot mode or by using bmm (go into Firmware flashing>Flash Kernel)
code: fastboot flash boot boot_jb.img
5. Then again switch off your device (no need to do if you used bmm to flash the kernel), switch on your device and use bmm selector to enter into recovery. (if you used bmm yo flash the kernel, just go back to the main screen of the recovery)
6. Once inside the recovery select the system on which you want to install (if you wanna do it on the main system then no need to that).
7. Then go into wipe and clean> wipe data, cache, dalvik cache.
8. Then flash the JB which you want.
9. After that, go into System Keeper>Install Bmm (main system)
10. Then go to reboot option> power off, Then boot up your device and select the system on which you installed the update from the boot selecter screen.
11. Profit Latest JB (remember first reboot takes about 5 mins so wait patiently)
I hope I helped you all again, if you like my work and would like to donate to me, soon my account will be up and then you can do that!

I don't kno what ap fastboot mode is, how to use the codes, what cid is,...
So could someone write a "how to for idiots"?

Guys, it's clearly stated, that you have to boot over BP tools after erasing the CID.
