I asked thia question to a verizon account manager and he said to get a new sim card and it'll work. Try it out.

Yes, the fact that it's blacklisted simply means that Verizon's database shows it as not being able to be activated. This has no effect on the phones usability on another carrier.

Keep in mind att uses gsm radio and Verizon uses CDMA.
You may run into trouble.
However I believe the Verizon note 2 is a works phone?
Who knows exactly what that means for you.
God bless the American people.

Figures someone who uses barrack Obama as name wouldn't be any help how fitting. The note II has gsm and cdma radios. It's unlocked from the factory so you can throw a t-mobile, AT&T, straight talk ect and it'll work fine. The note supports 1900mhz frequency which is the refarned hspa42 for t-mobile and 3g hspa for at&t

I buy/sell/trade phones and I've run into a couple bad esn phones (no I don't buy them, shady people report them stolen). I actually picked up a Note 2 several months ago. I checked the esn over 611, came back clean, brought it home several hours later to put it on my wife's line. We popped her sim in, it activated, then almost immediately deactivated. After hours on the phone with Verizon they said the seller reported it and there was nothing I could do. We got her a new sim card and reactivated her S3. As I considered my options, the next day I called Verizon and checked the ESN again. The lady said it was clean. I didn't understand and took it to the store to ask a rep. It was explained to me that when a IMEI is blacklisted, it "burns" the sim card you put in it. Since we are in no way faulted on our plan, we were given a new sim card. The rep explained that the phone is blacklisted against that one sim card. So if I put my new sim in, it is now linked to my (clean) account.
Long story short - if you pop in a sim card, it will get zapped. If you get a new one and try again, it SHOULD work fine on Verizon.
I hold no responsibility to what you do or how accurate that info is. It worked for me and was approved by a Verizon rep. Try it or don't.

And "yes", it will work on AT&T if you add APN's. No LTE though. Only AT&T's 4G (kinda like 3G+) and lower.

What is the point of reporting a phone stolen
if all the next guy needs to do is pop two sim cards in it and it works?
I believe something is amiss.
but I mean, hey, if it works it works.

i had one that had been blacklisted because the person didnt pay the bill i use the unlock zip and put in att and it worked

If a seller reports a phone stolen, they can sell the phone and collect the cash, then turn it into insurance and get a new phone.
They don't care about you actually still being able to use the phone or not, only that they get free money and a new phone.

I bought my Note 2 off of Craigslist in November I checked the number with Verizon. I was told everything was good to go. About two weeks ago I got a call from the Sheriff's office letting me know that I was in possession of a phone that had been stolen directly from one of their stores. I had put my own SIM card in so I never had any issues.

I would assume that you could, Just because Verizon has put the ban hammer down on the phone doesn't necessarily mean that other carriers would also. I guess the best way to know is to give it a shot.

I had a similar issue with a S3 when they first came out. I traded a Razr Maxx for it. I used it for a while until I found a blue one, so I gave it (white) to my wife. About 3 months later I got a call from an investigative department of Verizon. I explained the situation and they allowed me to keep the S3 (unblacklisted) for cooperating with them. I gave them all the info of the person I got it from. That guy called me a week later to warn me that Verizon may be calling, lol. Turns out the person be bought it from had stolen several of these off a Fed Ex truck before they reached the store.

[Q] Vibrant help with changing the imei #

Ugh... I am so tired of searching on how to change the imei number on the vibrant.
I have now for about a month.
I have tried so many updates and new roms to try and spoof up the imei number.
I have read alot of people talking about trying to repair their imei number?
Well my question is, what did you do to mess it up?
I need to spoof mine up because.... (long story)
I had the motorola cliq for about a year, loved it then some one stole it from me at school. Lame but forunatly it was around christmas time and I asked everyone for money to pitch in money so I could get a new phone. So I got enough money to buy the vibrant (off craigslist), and thats all I got for christmas. I got it about 2 weeks before christmas so it totally sucked to watch everyone open gifts in front of you and you just sit there with your phone.
Lucky this phone kicks ass
Sadly about a weeks after christmas, the phone suddenly doesnt connect to the net work anymore. We called t-mobile and they said who ever owned the phone before stopped paying the bill for the phone and its two year contract so the phone has been blacklisted.
So the only way I could use the phone is if I spoof up the imei number, now can some one please help me with this.
I am willing to pay money, whatever.
Oh and if I unlock this phone, could a at&t sim card work with the phone and connect to the network?
Please help asap.
You can't it comes with the phone
Its like the serial number can't change it

1) Changing/spoofing IMEIs or ESNs is illegal. Look it up.
2) T-Mobile only blacklists phones if they were purchased on the EIP and weren't paid off, and I'm not even sure they're actually doing that yet.
Are you sure you took the phone to t-mobile and got a new sim card with your original phone number?
When you don't pay your bill they cut off your service. not blacklist the phone.

Hey I was in the same situation.. bought my phone off craigslist and had it on simple mobile (reseller of tmobile service) and after I had the phone for about the month it said no service. I thought it was a sim error but I tried a tmobile sim and the same thing happened come to find out tmobile blacklisted the imei because of a unpaid bill on the previous owners account but I did manage to get it unlocked and had to switch it to at&t so just to let everyone know t mobile does blacklist imei numbers now

[Q] Bought a brand new AT&T i717 with a bad imei for $200... what to do now?

Hello
I bough what it looks like a brand new i717 on craigslist at @ $200. It is in pristine condition, boxed with all the accessories including a genuine flip case... everything fresh and still smelling like new. It has a bad IMEI though.
The seller said it was a display unit on an AT&T store and that they block the IMEIs of the phones that are removed from the display counter. The guy even had an AT&T t-shirt... Truth or lie? I don't know, it still seemed a great deal to me and I bought it anyway since I've seen them on ebay selling well above $300 in "used" (all scratched up) condition.
So, I have two questions:
-Is it true that a blocked IMEI will work overseas? (I also took the risk on buying it because I will move overseas in a few months)
-Is there anything I can do to use it now with my T-Mobile account?
Thanks
Not sure about it working overseas. No experience.
But you could also sell it to somebody who wants to use it on T-Mobile USA since a bad AT&T IMEI doesnt matter on T-Mo
Looks like you are screwed unless you can find stuff to manage stolen phones... I'd take our as a lesson of "if it looks too good to be true..."

No, I haven't called At&t at all... I don't think I'm going to have any luck asking them to fix the imei of a blacklisted phone that I boought on Craiglist... I do have a T-mobile sim but I haven't inserted it yet. Why? because I have read many times that if you insert a sim on a phone with a blocked imei they will block the sim card automatically...

Oh that sucks. I will unlock it and take it with me overseas... I guess I shouldn't have any problems using it there (Lima, Peru).
Ok this sucks even more. A friend grabbed the phone and inserted his own AT&T sim card just to "see what happens"... his line got automatically suspended. It didn't even work when inserted the sim back to his own phone. Of course this has just happened a few minutes ago (Saturday night when customer service is closed).
I will call customer care tomorrow. Do any of you guys know what are the steps to restore the line? Is it just a simple call or does he need to buy a new sim?
Thanks

I agree. He called ATT this morning and his line was suspended as "lost or stolen". The rep never said anything about using the sim on a blacklisted device or anything similar. They restored his service right away,
Anyway... my i717 is now stored and I won't mess with it until I move overseas. Beware of inserting your sim on an blacklisted device!
Not to hijack your thread, but a "friend" of mine just stole a brand new note from best buy and wants me to help him unlock and root it. Not that I really care about best buy (and I really don't care that he stole it) but I'm thinking on refusing on general principle just because his actions raise the prices of phones and service for the rest of us. What would you do?

I'd tell your friend, that if he was clever enough to steal it, then he should be clever enough to get a job and buy one... the thieving little socialist.
In the principle of helping anyone root their phone, I'd not do it for them. I would help them read and learn how to do it, as that helps general understanding of what they are doing and may eliminate future help calls.

Cell Spa sales stolen phones
Unfortunately I bought a Galaxy S2 in September from a cell phone store (" Cell Spa" in Sugar Land Texas) that sales stolen Phones. I was able to call AT&T and told them to release my SIM card and they did. They told me the IMEI on the phone was linked to a stolen phone so basically there was nothing I could do. They are not concerned about returning the phone to the original person who claimed the theft so I'm stuck with a blacklisted phone????:crying:
What was that line from Forrest Gump? Oh yeah, "stupid is as stupid does". Anyone that buys or sells stolen phones, gets what they deserve. Remember....it was stolen from someone that actually paid money for it!

PUK code is locked

I upgraded my Dad to a One X a few weeks ago. Today he tells me about some sim message and then he said he couldn't make calls anymore.
Sure enough the home screen says the PUK Code is locked. Att tries to tell me that i can happen due to a variety of things yet they can't explain what these variety of things are so I tell the cs person to send me to tech support.
In the mean time I pop the sim out, replace it and restart the phone. Looks like he's back in business.
The tech support guy was kind of a **** and suggesting that my dad might have tried putting a tmobile sim or something in. My dad doesn't even know what a sim card is nor does he have the tool to do this.
Did ATT just improperly seat the sim when they shipped it to us? What else causes this?

This comes from someone trying to change the sim password which is not for the user to change. You can get the code from the website or from a tech that knows what he is talking about. I saw it often when I worked for them.
Wayne Tech S-III
I understand it comes from someone entering the wrong code. We're dealing with my dad here. Has no idea WTF this code is in the first place, obviously didn't see or understand the error and just wanted to dial someones number.
This just shouldn't happen.
Today he had no service again because it said the sim was missing. Going to return this phone.
It's a bummer because I know generally its a good device, friend has one with no problebs. But if my dad is going get frustrated (and rightly so) every day because the damn sim keeps coming loose, I don't' have the patience to deal with that.
*sigh*

Note 2 showing up as S3 under my account

I have a VZW Note2 with an unlocked bootloader and Beans v10 rom. Under my Verizon account my phone is listed as an S3. I called VZW and tried to get this changed but they could not do anything about it and insisted that I was wrong and am using an S3. Then they said I would have to take it in to a store to get checked out. I have tried to re-register the device online and it shows the phone as a Note2 based on the IMEI number but when I apply the changes it always reverts back to listing my phone as an S3. I have used this sim card in an S3 a few months ago after I bought the N2 for a few minutes then put it back in my N2. Maybe the sim needs to be reset? Has anyone else experienced this before?
I think I'd revert back to stock then take it to a Verizon store. This could really screw you if you were to get a warranty replacement or an insurance replacement.

I went for six months on Sprint where they classified my phone as a different phone then I had. It was a screwup in their database and eventually they fixed it. I'm sure it's the same thing here too. Even my international Note2 turned up as a dumb phone on one of the imei check sites. These companies don't have their own database of phone imeis, they use a 3rd party generated database created by offshore workers or automated systems so there are bound to be some errors.
I would take it in to a Verizon Store and let them see it and get it noted on the account just in case you have to do a return.
Yes to fix you will need to go to corporate store get new sim and activate note 2 as cpe.
It's not that it thinks your note 2 is an s3. It's just not updating your imei in their system so it thinks you are still on the s3 that was previously activated. Seen it before had to do the above to fix it when the issues has popped up.

[Q] Tablet Identity Mod

As you guys know or should know the Galaxy Note II is considered a smart phone on Verizon's network. They charge a $40 Monthly Line Access Per Device. I have de-activated my call/text and get data only at a data only rate plus smartphone fee. ie $40 (smartphone) + $60 (10GB) Share Everything Options for Data Devices vs having $40 (smartphone) + $100 (10GB) Unlimited Talk & Text + Shared Data . So that being said I was wondering If some one could show me how to change my device id, model number, baseband, or hardware number. What ever they look at to identify my device as Galaxy Note II. I like to change it to CLONE it into "Verizon Tablet Device" if you will. In case you still dont get what i would like to see solved its that I want Verizon to recognize my Galaxy Note II as a current available tablet on there plans. ie display to Verizon that my phone "is" a Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Tab, etc I think you get the picture. I only need the data and gps to work if thats even relevant. I know it can be done. Its XDA after all Thanks guys ahead of time!

I don't know much about modifying the low level stuff, but couldn't you just get a SIM card activated for a tablet and put that in the Note II? I've never done it, but I have heard that people have swapped SIMs between phones and jetpacks/tablets all the time to us unlimited data on other devices. Maybe that would work here too? Again, not too knowledgeable here, just throwing that lead out there...
Edit your build.prop, I would imagine. Replace all references to the Note 2 to the Note 10.1 tablet, or whatever that thing is called.

I don't believe swapping the sim won't solve the issue. I think they know what device is being used unless the device is branded into the sim which I highly doubt but thanks.
