[Q] Samsung galaxy SII doesn' turn on, recovery and odin don't work - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i have problem with my Samsung Galaxy S II (I9100), I have searched for almost one night and day - and I can't find any problem like this.
Yesterday my phone turned off (i had Infinity custom ROM), and now it doesn't want to go past "Samsung galaxy SII" screen, recovery doesn't work, neither Download mode with odin (tried installing new rom about a few times), and i don't really know what to do now. Please help me.

Hmm, I am not an expert, but I think an USB Jig can solve your problem. Buy one from ebay or somewhere, it is not expensive.

In this case I suggest you to go to a software engineer because they have the necessary equipment.
To be honest I once crashed my sgs2 by rooting it with different version of build number. Even though I still could join the download mode and recovery mode I went to an engineer who immediately asked me if the phone still can go in that mods. He said it was bad if it doesn't. The good part is that he said it is fixable even if it doesn't go in that modes, but he needs to do more things which is pretty obviously makes the reparation more expensive.
To repair the phone he asked for 15 euros and to add the ICS (latest android version at that time) he asked for 5 euros.
Indeed it would be more expensive to you, but I think it is the most recommended.

[SOLVED] Media Process Battery Drain

These didn't work:
I have tried disabling the media scanner (rescan media root).
I have scanned my pictures/music for corrupt files and found none.
I uninstalled the Download app which surprisingly worked for a while, but the problem has come back again after a week or two.
The three processes which are listed as possibilities are "Download Manager / DRM Protected Content Storage (I have none) / Media Storage" - I tried disabling each one but to no avail.
I tried rebooting in safe mode but nothing changed, so it's not a third party app.
I never had this problem when I was unrooted on stock, but I can't think what could be causing the problem.
The process is called android.process.media
Help, please?
Please provide more info on which GS2 model u have, what firmware/ROM you are running and whether rooted or not.
And have you tried moving Camera storage to External SD, and manually transferring all the files from DCIM folder of internal memory to the External SD?

I have the international version, I'm on PAC ROM v22 rooted. I haven't installed my own kernel, but I think it's custom CWM based which came with the ROM...
I have camera set on external by default and have all my DCIM stuff in there anyway.
Could be a bug in the ROM then...
Have u tried asking in the PACman discussion thread? They could help u better...

Is there a DCIM folder in your internal SD?
Sent from the little guy
There was, but I deleted it. It just looked like cache files or something.
@immortalneo: Yeah, I've asked but we never came to any conclusion and even after trying another ROM the problem stayed.
I have the exact same problem... Tried everything you mentioned the only thing that works is disabling media scanner through the app Rescan media ROOT. However that's a half-assed solution cause the media scanner remains off till you re enable it.
Do the DCIM folder thing.....and keep both folders (DCIM), externally & internally.

Okay, no matter what I can't seem to get rid of this error. I've done a complete wipe and flashed a new ROM, but even after that the error persists. Could it possibly be some error which no software could fix?

I might be different on your ROM but have a look at my thread here in case it applies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39647217#post39647217
Make sure you only block the drmserver and see what happens.
Okay, I've flashed stock 4.1.2, so I'll try that out for a while with no apps, nothing in my SD card, no ext SD card and no SIM card. Let's see how that goes. If I have to I will go back to 4.0.3.
Edit: Seems to have worked, but I'll let it settle a while then bring back the apps, music, mobile service etc
Edit 2: And it's back again...this is ridiculous.
Media Process menace is always persistant intermittently no matter what has been done so far/tricks applied from this forum's members :banghead:
I still long for its solution since ages
search on google play "rescan media" u can disable scanner or scan again
Well, after going back to complete stock I can safely say the problem is gone (well, for now, who knows). No idea what the problem was but...glad I'm fine for now.

You know most problems do get solved by reflashing firmware. Sometimes those kinds of problems appear which even recognized dev's say that the solution is to reflash the firmware.
Now if you want to go fix a problem of which you have no knowledge about: would you..
a) Reflash firmware (you know that this will most certainly will fix the issue)
or
b) Spend day and night searching in the internet and fingering with your device like you have the time of the world... Most people dont have that amount of time.
So if your way is to dismantle the whole vehicle in search for a problem, then that's your way. But please don't disrespect others for their way to the solution.
BTW - These days, someone new who fixes the problem in any way by themselves is considered a victory

Take it to a local mobile shop. Will probably be cheaper than paying a service centre to fix it. Whether they're able to fix it or not is another issue - if they can get necessary parts or not; I.E if it's a motherboard replacement they're only going to be able to source a 2nd hand board if they're not an authorised repairer.

they say it's a boot loader problem . they've tried to fix it using the box but they faced the same problem which faced me , pc is recognising an OMAP4430 device which instantly connects and disconnects !
i've been looking through the internet since it was bricked and i couldn't find a sollution
If it was a bootloader problem it would be JTAG'able. It clearly isn't JTAG'able given you've already tried.
The motherboard needs to be replaced.

Can U tell Me how To fix it by my self ?
Or is it impossible ?
If you have to ask, you probably don't want to try it. It involves taking the USB circuitry board from another phone (I presume, this is what you'd do if you wanted to replace the motherboard yourself with a 2nd hand one; tho it may not be exactly the same process & you may not be able to do this yourself), and swapping the boards out. If you don't know what you're doing, you bork the phone beyond repair. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing. Or buy a new phone.
Edit - I've attached the SGS2 service manuals to this post zipped up. Have fun.

Given the issues, what you've already tried & the fact the phone has recently changed hands, I'd be calling the carrier (Despite data working).

Doesnt explain why it worked sometimes, also my friend said it were something wrong with it when i got it. I tried different SIM cards aswell. Even different carriers
See you didn't tell us that in your OP. That changes things. Well if there 'was something wrong with it when you got it', why did you buy it knowing that ? Take it to a local mobile shop.
If you want to go down the 'root the phone & start flashing CWM flashable modems to try & fix the problem' route, you're going to have a steep learning curve by the sound of it. If you want to do that, I've already given you a good head start with my previous sentence - you have a lot of searching/reading/learning to do. Whether this fixes the problem or not, you're only going to find that out if you try it.

[Q] Help with S2!

i am totally stumped on what has happened to my s2,
suspect its some sort of water damage.
When i boot the phone im faced with the 'samsung galaxy s2' screen only and the boot doesn't progress any further.
then i try to restore firmware and enter recovery mode i am faced with 'low battery!! cant download!' regardless of how long the phone is left on charge .
Any suggestions what i can do or even where i start?
You certainly don't create two threads about the same issue within 2 hrs. What do you mean 'suspect some sort of water damage' - was it exposed to water or not ? Try another battery, failing that I'd be taking it to a service centre, tho obviously they won't fix it gratis if the problem has been caused by water/moisture. In that case, take it to a local mobile repair shop (non-Samsung authorised repairer) who will likely fix it more cheaply than a service centre.

Well so not only have you used completely generic title but you have also created dupe threads. You're not getting off to a good start on here. Please do not leave such generic topic titles. Titles are supposed to be specific and descriptive of topic so that people browsing forum can see at a glance what topic's are about. Putting a topic in the Help section of a S2 device and putting a title of topic as "Help with S2!" doesn't really help anybody.
Have you tried other battery?
Have you tried other charger?
Tried charging battery via external wall charger?
Have you tried booting into both Download and Recovery mode?
Has this been a stock sammy device or have you previously been flashing custom roms?

You didn't say you'd tried another battery, and that's the problem with threads like this with zero information from the start, it ends up being a drip feed/a game of 'twenty questions' - you reveal a bit more info with every new post as to what you've done so far (which you should have mentioned in the first instance). Thing is, this takes ages. Most people here don't have the time/patience for threads like this anymore. If people can't read the rules when they sign up which say they should give as much info as possible about the problem they're having, I'm one of these people.
Good luck.

I said "external" wall charger, ie dont try and charge them within device. You can get standalone chargers that charge your battery independently of the device. I got mine from ebay as I have recently fried the USB port so it will do nicely until I repair/replace port.
You still didn't answer my question regarding download mode, Have you entered download mode and tried flashing stock rom?

[Q] Galaxy S2 won't turn on

Hello guys ,

Well a few days back my S2 turned off on its own and when I tried to get it back on it only went to download mode then I gave him to my brother he tried to flash a rom or a kernel but it always said nand error the problem now that after I got the phone back from him the phone won't charge the battery also won't turn on like it's completely dead then I charged the battery and tried another one but nothing happened the phone still won't turn on even when I connect my usb cable nothing appears but the thing is that whenever I press the power button or plug in the usb it becomes hot but don't give a sign like a rock or sth it reamins black and not even a flash or a vibration .
Please let me know if you have encounter such a problem before and I'll be thankful of you can help me
Service centre (or local mobile repair shop if no warranty). But before that, you could advanced search user King_Rat's posts to find his method of 'hotbooting' the phone with the charger minus the battery & try that. More than likely won't work, but you may as well try it.

well if you mean the way in which I cut a USB cable and connect the red wire to a pin and the black to the other then I have tried this and the phone didn't turn on and it also become hot
The problem about service centres is that the phone is rooted , had Cyanogen mod before it went nuts so that's for now a long shot..... I guess
thanks by the way
You're looking for a magic fix, there isn't one (Honestly what do you expect anyone here to suggest ?).

Since the phone is completely bricked, there's no way they can know you're phone is rooted... So take it to the Service Centre mate!

As I've said earlier I am in Syria and today I've contacted the service centre and they wouldn't pick up so I am guessing due to the situations we have now the're closed , I am taking it to an unofficial shop to see what's wrong and I am guessing he's gonna change the board and that would cost me much specially in these situations ... lucky indeed
many thanks for helping though

Well I took it the best service shop I could find he told me he stripped my mobile and welded some wires to it and managed some how to connect it to a pc tried to flash a ROM but there was always error 25 then he told me that I need to change the IC but unfortunately we don't have that in Syria many thanks for the help dude
Sounds like he attempted a JTAG....
If the phone was under warranty before, it ain't now......Samsung will see the solder marks, and say warranty denied due to unauthorised rework........

Well it doesn't matter any more cz the phone is now a total brick so guess he's gonna be staying in my closet for a long long while
you see in Syria you don't get that much of a warranty not mentiong the stupidity of the service shops we have and lack of spare parts also the great deal of cheating ^_^ so that's not new to us I have adapted to that years ago
I do thank you all for the help you had provided me earlier
