[Q] S2 Rebooting randomly and losing signal! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I'm having weird problems with my phone. Useally, when I'm having a call or just trying to unlock the lockscreen, phone just shuts down. Also sometimes phone loses signal and even shows that it's charging even if it's not. I'm using Disaster rom 10. My kernel is Dorimanx, because I need stwaks to lower defaut headphone volume.
What could be causing these issues?
Thanks for any help.

Buggy rom could be reason. Backup ur data first.
Wipe cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions first.
If that doesn't work, try a full wipe.
If that doesn't work, re-flash ur rom.

All apps crashing after ROM change

Hello,
right now I have the following Galaxy S2:
Model: GT-I1900P
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100PXXLPB
Kernel:3.0.15-I9100PXXLPF-CL340191 [email protected]#3
Build number: IML74K.XXLPF
before that I was stock 4.0.4, after failed attempt to upgrade I installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614895 ROM and during 1-st boot all apps was "optimising" for 1-2 minutes, but after boot every process is crashing and the phone is unresponsive (android.acore crashing every ~30sec).
Is there any way to fix this without losing all installed apps, settings, etc.
Have u done a factory reset before flashing?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
No, I didn't do Factory reset, like I said I hope not to lose all installed apps, settings, etc.
Sorry to say this, but that's the only logical thing to do. Flashing different ROM versions can cause all kinds of errors until a factory reset is done.
Backup what you can and do a full wipe.

I was 4.0.4, now I am 4.0.3
I installed lower version because I couldn't find 4.0.4 for my model.
He asked because 4.0.4 firmwares are prone to the eMMC Brickbug.

But the big question here is: Why would you ever flash a custom rom without doing a factory reset?? It's one of the basic steps...
But hey, good luck with it

Okay, but with a custom kernel everything should be safe to do, like doing a factory reset. But anyway, that's up to the OP.

TiBu doesn't recommend restoring apps after ROM change - especially if it's a different Android version. You can try to reinstall the .apks / market apps manually and then restore the old data, maybe it'll do it.
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
yeah when installing / flashing a different rom its best to do a wipe / factory reset...if you also change android versions i would most certainly do a wipe / factory reset.
file changes...permissions...data access...media...possibly how apk's are stored/ used/ accessed. and so on.
Now a dirty flash is possibly ok...... if same android version and same rom. IE just updated version.... but even then you can have issues.
If your apps n stuff are important.... try a backup program..... titanium backup, my backup pro....etc.
But as mentioned if you change roms and specifically change android versions some backs ups may not fully function or will only restore partially.
cheers

[Q] Official firmware update 4.1.2 for indian variant (INU)

Hi,
I have update my Galaxy SII (GT-I9100) indian variant (INU) to official 4.1.2 update released through kies.
The update happened for only around 20 minutes and JB runs smooth and fast. I am impressed with the update Samsung has released.
But from the day one of JB update, my Galaxy SII needs charging for every 8 hours. It drains fast and I am frustrated now, coz I have to keep on check on the battery which is draining pretty. I am scared of to use this phone, as the battery is not predictable for longing at least for 10hrs. Previous 4.0.4 update used to give me more than 12 - 14 hours even there is use of more than average.
I searched through google, and every says about media process running. But could not find a solution. Can any please help me or direct me to find a solution on how to correct this.
Firmware: XWLSK
Thanks,
Kishore
Almost 1 in 3 people who have updated to JB have this issue.
A new firmware usually takes time to settle, and so will the battery life.
Have u done a factory reset after updating? This usually solves many issues.
There are many tips & tweaks for improving battery life on JB. Search the forum please.

My S2 was bricked last week and I gave it to samsung service and they have changed the motherboard and delivered it to me by updating it to Jelly bean. Previously I was in ICS (Had No problem like these)
Now I have these problems:
1. whirring noise when turning on the camera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toDlY8Txb4M) like this
2. ON every wake up ("SD card unexpectedly removed") Using 32 GB class 4 Sandisk memory card.
3. Battery drains fast ( this will get cleared in another few cycles of charging)
Please help me out...
Checked various place but dint get cleared...
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but please do not create double posts. Your question will be answered soon enough.
I suggest you take it back to the Service Centre as they are obviously responsible for it.

Thanks for the reply. The official firmware was released on April 3, and I updated through kies on April 4.
I learnt that the new updated ROM takes time to settle, but April 4 to till date is sufficient I guess to settle.
As mentioned by you, I dd not do a factory reset. do you want me to do a factory reset. I am not sure how to proceed with factory reset. I will to learn about it. Will the factory reset wipe all data and JB update?
Thank in advance.
Factory reset can be done by entering the Recovery mode. Just choose 'Wipe Data' and 'Wipe Cache Partition' and reboot.
U will not lose JB update, nor lose ur files, photos, videos, songs, downloaded content, documents etc.
But u will lose ur installed apps and their data, call history, contacts, calendar entries, messages, bookmarks, notes etc.
So backup what you can before doing a factory reset.
Also search for battery saving tips on XDA, like switching off Fast dormancy, etc.

Calm down mate, your battery will be normal after couple of days.
Just ignore it and keep fueling it.
Happened with me too.
According to me, the thing is
Jelly Bean creates cache files in its starting phase so i guess it leads to battery drain.
I am not sure though about my theory though.

Thanks a lot buddy. That solved the problem of JB battery drain.
By this factory reset, my phone is looking new and fast with JB smooth response. But only concern is all applications have to be re-installed.
After factory reset, I kept my phone in observation (3 days) and stock ROM to settle down (did not installed any app).
I can see the power management is normal now.
Any clue on how many hours of battery backup using JB stock ROM will give status of battery (in good condition or bad)?
Thanks once again.

[SOLVED] I9100 freezes, gets slow sometimes when using stock camera (JB 4.1.2)

Hi all,
Since I updated from CF-rooted GB 2.3.6 to (Mobile Odin root injection) JB 4.1.2 (XWLSD, XEN), I noticed that when opening the stock camera app, the shutter does not open (i.e. app starts, but screen is black) and my phone freezes or becomes very slow. Sometimes I receive an error message and that the application is forced to close. The problem is random. Rebooting does not help. I never had these issues on GB 2.3.6.
Is anyone familiar with this issue? Do I need to reinstall the stock camera app? If so, where to get it for JB 4.1.2? Thanks in advance for replying.
Have u done a full wipe or factory reset after updating?

Thanks for reply.
To be honest, I do not know anymore if I did a full wipe (cache / Dalvik cache during Mobile Odin flash). However, it should be safe coming from GB 2.3.6 with respect to the brick bug issue (I have insane chip 0x19 in my I9100). Following that logic and my own thoughts, I would expect I did wipe the cache / Dalvik cache.
Of course I can perform a factory reset again or multiple times to be sure everything is wiped. What's the best thing to do? Thanks for advice.
At this moment I do not have CWM installed to wipe cache / Dalvik cache separately without the need of a factory reset because I people reporting issues with CWM 6.0.2.9 for i9100. Furthermore, I do not know if sure JB 4.1.2. has brick bug command enabled / disabled.
I think a factory reset should solve this issue. Try it and let us know. Remember to backup ur data too.
There is no known risk of 'eMMC Brickbug' in JB 4.1.2 firmwares. So you can safely wipe ur data.
As for rooting and CWM, flashing a custom kernel like Siyah or Philz is recommended. This can also relieve you from any fear of the Brickbug on 4.1.2.

You cannot inject CWM via Mobile Odin, but you can flash original CWM (from Clockworkmod's ROM Manager) homepage with Mobile Odin. Just download the *.img file from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager, put it in your root folder of your device and rename it to "recovery.img". By renaming to recovery.img, the file is recognized by Mobile Odin and you can flash it.
Did it succesfully on My P7510 / N8010 multiple times and this evening again due to new version 6.0.3.1.

Has possibilities, but from what I've read.....no real advantage over PhilZ...also having read the number of threads where people are having "issues" with odin, PhilZ is probably safer too. Another thing, the firmwares appear to be "unbranded"...for some, this may be unsuitable....
My opinion.....if I want to root a firmware, I'd rather use the stock recovery than PC odin.....come to think of it, I'd prefer to use Mobile Odin to PC Odin if it could be rewritten to work on unrooted phones...

I believe pre-rooted firmwares can help a few people who are either too lazy or too dumb to root separately!
I agree that if it were usable on non-rooted phones, Mobile Odin would rock!

Nice discussion over here
Anyway, does anyone has the stock kernel XWLSD / XWLSN? I'd like to try PhilZ and Siyah kernels but also want to go back to stock. Usually, we receive all firmwares from Sammobile, but you can also get them from here: http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=none
And via live.samsung, you can also get the stock kernels only besides the full firmware for a certain device / release, check this out for example: http://live.samsung-updates.com/details/8032/Galaxy_Note_10.1_WiFi/GT-N8010/LUX/N8010XXUCMA8.html, full firmware and stock kernel only . Unfortunately, for I9100 no separate stock kernels seem to be available.
UPDATE: Just extract zImage file from full firmware and you have your stock kernel Flash it with Mobile Odin (do not rename file!)
I'm a few weeks further, after full wipe, clean cache, etc no more problems with my camera so far.

Official Firmware update gone wrong, help needed

Hi peeps, updated my wifes S2 with an official samsung update. OTA would not work so i resorted to using Kies (which appeared to run well and completed with a reboot. The phone seemed OK at first but then the gallery/music player kept force closing and the camera would do the same. After a few reboots it continued to decline in stability until it just stopped booting at all. I have tried a hard reset but with no luck ( little android fella shows up then loops back to galaxy splash screen. I can boot into odin mode but i would prefer the Samsung Jelly bean Rom. can anyone tell me if i can flash this from Odin as this appears to be the only way to get it up and running again. Any helps good help Cheers.
U already have the answer mate!
Download the JB firmware you want from sammobile.com.
Get into Download mode.
Flash it via Odin.
Get into recovery.
Do a factory reset and wipe cache too.
Reboot.

[Q] do i have two recovery tools?

Hello,
I have "played" arround with my phone trying different ROM's during a couple of years now.
Now i want to try the Omnirom but kep getting error 7 when i try to flash.
The soluton for this is updating CWM.
The strange thing is that i seem to have two versions of CWM, the standard interface and Phyliz Touch 5. They both seems to be a different version of CWM.
Now i clearly need to clean things, but i am not sure where to start.
What would be the best way to make my phone ready for the Omnirom and get one CWM?
ps. i did some googling but there is so much information out there that i get confused what the right way to go is.
Cheers,
Francis
Huh?? Two recoveries?
How did you do that? Or are you using ROM Manager?
