[Q] Will the SD card be encrypted on inserting to an Encrypted Android Phone - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently encrypted my phone(Xperia Z) without SD card in it.
Now I have added a 64gb Sandisk card to my phone. Its working fine.
My question is, will the sd card also be encrypted?
How do I make sure that my sd card is also encrypted?
Cheers,
Amit

hi ricky,
:crying: I did a factory reset yesterday and then encrypted the device with SD card mounted.
After completion of encryption, I removed the SD card and tried accessing files on my PC, they are accessible!
Am I doing something wrong here?

nope, thats the only possible way i know of sorry!

unless I am completely wrong I do not think the Xperia Z and ZL support SD Card encryption. I have a ZL and been testing with Exchange ActiveSync since my company requires SD Card encryption. I have not been able to get it to work unless I turn off that one policy. I can't understand why Sony has gone this route. Almost all the other vendors now allow encrypting the SD Card.

not only sdcard will not be encrypted but you should know that your internal memory (internal SD) has never been encrypted, you might think your files r encrypted inside the phone but they are not! only /data folder gets encrypted when the phone uses android's native encryption.

Why do you want to re-name the SD card?
Unmount and remount the SD card, perhaps? Or format via recovery, if rooted?
Is it SDXC or SDHC?
SDXC might cause problems sometimes - exFAT, FAT32 and all that jazz.

Can't mount external sd card

Hello. When trying to flash my mini X android box, I used sd card from my sgs2. After that, I inserted the card to sgs2 and rebooted.
The telephone said "Corrupted card" and asked to format. However, it formatted internal sd card!! And it doesn't see the external one.
I've tried formatting external sd to fat32. No luck.
What should I do?

Well, this may sound stupid or strange, but what I couldn't do with gParted or Windows partition was easily done by putting sd-card to my Note 10.1
My problem is solved by now. The only thing that bothers me is that my internal sd is formatted and everything's lost. If anyone knows how to recover all data, please pm me

There is some custom roms that have strange behaviors with sdcard, But the stock is not very normal to have problems.
Try back up data in your microSD, and format, and scan your sd card

Android 6.0 Adoptable Storage Corruption

Hi, I'm using a non-rooted stock Moto G3 that I had set up to use an SD card as adoptable storage. Yesterday I started getting notifications to insert the linked SD card even though it had never been removed. Upon removing it and reinserting it, there was a long "checking" process that I noticed in the storage settings page which eventually ended with the status "corrputed". If I take the SD card out and look at the partitions in GParted, I see two android partitions of the correct size. It looks like the data is still here, however, I cannot mount it due to the encryption. I found a guide on how to get the encryption key from the /data/misc/vold file, but since the phone is not rooted permission is denied. Are there any methods I can use to get to the encryption key or some other method to recover the data?
Thank you very much!
You are out of luck. You are gonna have to wipe the sdcard. This is why most oem removed the option.
My only advise is that if you are gonna use the sdcard then remove the encryption or just don't use if for anything other then storage.

Well, I did have some luck. Since I was still able to see the partitions, I was able to clone the data to a new SD card which was recognized by Android. I have not noticed any missing data yet. The old SD card is now stuck as read-only, so I cannot delete the partitions and reformat. I will be sending it back since it is still under warranty. Thanks for the advice. I will definitely move away from the adoptable storage method.

You mean the adopted SD card can still be protected by warranty?

Yes, the manufacturer sent me a replacement SD card after the original became stuck as read-only and could not be formatted.

Encrypting SD Card

Hi,
I want my 128GB SD card to be completely encrypted. Is there a way to do this without adding it as internal storage? I found none ... as to:
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...d_answer_detail/a_id/111911/p/9834/kw/sd card
it may not be possible.
TIA
Is your internal encrypted ?
Have you tried format it as internal?
When formated as internal :
The card is not readable by other devices. (another phone, Mac, PC, digital camera)
The card is always encrypted, and can not be decrypted on any other device.
