Encrypting SD Card - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi,
I want my 128GB SD card to be completely encrypted. Is there a way to do this without adding it as internal storage? I found none ... as to:
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...d_answer_detail/a_id/111911/p/9834/kw/sd card
it may not be possible.
TIA

Is your internal encrypted ?
Have you tried format it as internal?
When formated as internal :
The card is not readable by other devices. (another phone, Mac, PC, digital camera)
The card is always encrypted, and can not be decrypted on any other device.

[Q] Format Internal Storage and SD CARD to exFAT?

Currently, Internal Storage(the 11,5GB partition) and SD CARD are formatted as FAT32. Should I format them as exFAT?
Will it work? Benefits? Thanks!
No, it won't work, thanks!
And how about changing the allocation unit size? Will it make it kinda faster?

[Q] Will the SD card be encrypted on inserting to an Encrypted Android Phone

Hi,
I recently encrypted my phone(Xperia Z) without SD card in it.
Now I have added a 64gb Sandisk card to my phone. Its working fine.
My question is, will the sd card also be encrypted?
How do I make sure that my sd card is also encrypted?
Cheers,
Amit

hi ricky,
:crying: I did a factory reset yesterday and then encrypted the device with SD card mounted.
After completion of encryption, I removed the SD card and tried accessing files on my PC, they are accessible!
Am I doing something wrong here?

nope, thats the only possible way i know of sorry!
unless I am completely wrong I do not think the Xperia Z and ZL support SD Card encryption. I have a ZL and been testing with Exchange ActiveSync since my company requires SD Card encryption. I have not been able to get it to work unless I turn off that one policy. I can't understand why Sony has gone this route. Almost all the other vendors now allow encrypting the SD Card.

not only sdcard will not be encrypted but you should know that your internal memory (internal SD) has never been encrypted, you might think your files r encrypted inside the phone but they are not! only /data folder gets encrypted when the phone uses android's native encryption.

So I had this weird glitch yesterday where I lost everything in my SD card and in the internal Storage.
Is it possible to downlaod somewhere an image of the official internal storage content and structure?

If it's just the storage (as in sd and internal sd) it should be ok, if you can't save anything to the internal sd, then just formatting it should fix it.

Many people would recommend "exFAT" file system, also some would recommend "FAT32" but due to the limitation of the file size, i won't recommend it, "EXT4" is good, but may not be a good choice for SDcard if you wanted to view the files on the PC using a "SDcard reader" one day, your sdcard then would be limited to read only, so you have 2 options:
1-format it as "exFAT"
2-just put it in the phone, Reformat the SD card with your phone Settings --> Storage/Storage & USB The file system on the freshly formatted SD card is the type that will give you the best performance with your phone.... in other words....(let the phone choose)

As i told you, Individual files on a FAT32 drive can’t be over 4 GB in size, but in exFAT it has no limitations, if it worked good for you in phone or pc then it's fine, if you faced any problems reformat it to FAT32.

Yes most of the apps but not all. Some modules in EdXposed will not work so you have to move them to the real internal memory.
How did you set this up? Is there a particular ROM or was this installed later? Did you use a tool to set the partition? Perhaps a link to docs and downloads would help if you have them.
