[REQ] changing touch sound? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Is there a way to change the stock sound of the water touch sound?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2

If you use Root Explorer you can navigate to system/media/audio/ui and change sounds there. If there's an easier way maybe somebody can help you but that's how I do it
edit: you'll have to copy the new sounds and rename or delete the orignal sounds to change them

You should be able to copy the ui sounds from another rom...like one of the Jelly Beans builds by Beanstown106,
he uses AOSP sounds which I prefer. Or you could just use the mentioned rom and have sounds built in.

Of course the beanstown link isn't working. I hate the touchwiz sounds

i am in the same boat, i can not stand the water sound for touch, so i just keep this on my sdcard so i can add it to the list of zips i flash after a new rom, or test builds or what have you
feel free to use if you like
its the aosp touch sound, its just a quite click, it changes the defult touch sound as well as the softkey/captive button touch sound.

Thanks, ill save that. I found a few simple sounds in the ui folder and renamed them to the appropriate thing. Only thing I can't seem to change or am overlooking is the dialer sound key press. But other than that its perfect. No more stupid water sounds on touch or keys or unlock. Depending on the sounds you're using, it tricks your mind and makes it seem quicker without the long water sound.

the dialer is
Dialer_new.ogg ( if memory server me)
and i know there is a gallery one too... just cant remember where/ what its name is hell it may be in the gallery apk itself.

Also, if anyone is having problems getting sounds to work once replaced, make sure that you set the permissions on the new file appropriately. The permissions should be: rw- r-- r--. Hope this helps someone.

[Q] Landscape Rosie

If I pull the rosie.apk out of a rom that has the landscape homescreen mode working and put it in my system/app folder and change permissions will that allow my phone to go into landscape or are there other changes that need to be made?
I am running the Fresh rom atm and it's the only thing bugging me.
Thanks.

It depends on if you are running a deodexed version of the ROM currently. If yes, then, it should work as you described. If it is still ODEXED, then, no it won't.

Thanks, I did see that but I didn't like the idea of another app running in the background when I could just change one out. If I wasn't unlocked and rooted I would use that.
In case anyone wants it I pulled the .apk out of flex360's rom. Thanks flex360.
This, I believe, also has the ultrasmooth mod.
If posting this is against the rules or whatever let me know and I'll remove it. Just thought it would save people having to download a 500+mb rom if they are running a deodex rom and want the landscape rosie.
I kind of thought this would make the lockscreen rotate too but it doesn't... I have my phone sitting on the kickstand at work and I turn it on to look at the weather on the lockscreen which is why I originally wanted it rotated.

either this apk doesn't play well with viper, or I installed it wrong. I dropped it in /system/app and set permissions, but just got a black screen on reboot. Luckily, I was able to install apex from the play store from my computer, and once that installed, I was able to launch root explorer and change back to the backup rosie.apk I made before I pushed the new one. How are you supposed to install this?
Weird. Maybe some roms have changes not compatible or something. I did exactly what you did and it worked fine for me on the fresh 5.1.1 rom. I just renamed my original and put this one in system>app and changed permissions. After a reboot it worked.
I assume you meant system>app.

you might be right, but it's smooth enough for me
If its still odexed first delete the Rosie.odex file in root explorer then place your new Rosie in there. If you have modified the Rosie make sure it is signed. Signature verification has not been disabled in any of the roms that are out I don't believe.

I agree with Flex360. I'm an Android nub learning slowly here. Tried a few of the new roms and his is just...ultra smooth.
Crazy good battery life too, do the one click root. Then install and you are g2g.
Thanks Flex! I can't post on developer yet, 8 more posts! woot.

[Q] Wake using volume rocker

I had this when using the Base, but after going stock again in preparation for CM or AOSP I lost the ability to wake using the volume rocker. I know I need to edit a file in system/usr/keylayout but I can't remember which one, and if that was the only thing i needed to do.
I've tried searching this forum for it, but have not been able to find it. I remember when I read it, it was a offshoot of another thread within it.
Thanks for any help and have an awesome one.

Rootbox has it as an option, and I think the new CM10 has it as well.
If you're intending to use AOSP anyway, there really isn't anything for you to do.

Yeah I was able to try those and while I prefer their aesthetic I miss not having more control of the hardware. (eco-mode, wise screen, etc.) If any of the ROMs for the G had the eco-mode feature I'd stick with it, but as it is the Nova launcher and stock are more than ok.
So for anyone who might know could you let me know?
Thanks!

Go to system/usr/keylayout. Edit file "keypad_8064.kl", key 114 and key115 as shown. Save a backup of original file, just in case.
Get Trickster MOD from the play store. You can set ECO mode with it if you are using the Houcha kernel.

Thank you for the feedback guys.
I knew about the editing the keylayout file, but even after editing it does not change the rocker behavior. I remember needing to do something else to a file, but I can't find the reference anywhere.
Being on the houchu kernell would require me to convert the phone to the nexus 4 wouldn't it?

MOD>Manually Boost Volume for Speaker, Headset and Handset<MOD

GUIDE TO MANUALLY RAISE VOLUME
Must be rooted and have a file explorer installed. Each step has a corresponding numbered picture.
.......................................................................
I found that the speaker, headset and handset volumes were a bit too low for my damaged ears, so I decided to attempt changing it myself and it worked out wonderfully. (Same method I used on my N3) .......................................................................
I did this using Root Explorer, there are many out there you can use such as ES.
1) Navigate to System/etc. Scroll down to mixer_paths.xml. If using Root EX on the top right tick Mount R/W. If you dont do this your changes will not work or take.
2) Hold down mixer_paths.xml and a box with options will appear. Choose Open With. Then choose Text Editor.
3) Once it opens scroll down to the fourth divider line where you will see this:
Play Scenario
Then you will have a bunch of small paragraphs. First one directly under the Play Scenario line is "handset", then "speaker" and finally "headset". There are others like dock, speaker hdmi and so on but I only changed those three.
4) In each of the 3 you want to change the "RX Digital Volume" values. Stock value for the handset is 81. Touch next to the 1 delete it and inplace put a 7. (I found that 89 is the limit on my phone before distortion starts to occur so 88 or 89 is fine also) Next is speaker. Do the same 81 to 87 or whatever you prefer up to 89. And finally headset. For this change both stock "80" values to 87. (Left and Right) Double check all four changes you made closely. If you change the values above 89 there is a chance you may exceed the limit and have issues like no sound for the specific play scenario.
5) Now hit your phone menu button and tick save and exit. This will bring you back to the mixer_paths.xml page, and if you mounted r/w as I stated in step 2 you should see this directly below mixer_paths.xml: mixer_paths.xml.bak. That is a saved copy of your original stock mixer_paths.xml file which you can delete the modded and remove the bak from the name and reboot to revert to stock if an issue occurs such as no sound. Great
6) On top right you should see Mount R/O this time. Tick that and if it doesnt change dont worry it sometimes doesnt, reboot immediately. Once booted up your new values will be implemented and speaker, headset and handset will be much louder.
If you decide to mod the values once again, the saved file with name .bak created will be of your previous setting not stock. It will override the stock saved file. So if you plan on doing more than once to get the best desired volume, after your first ever edit, hold down the file created with .bak in the name and copy it to you extsd for safe keeping. This will prevent you from posting I lost my original file can someone please post it here?

Thanks for this guide. Well done. I also prefer to do this manually. So to go back to stock, rather than restoring the original mixer paths xml file, can I simply edit the values back to 80 and 81? I backed up the original file as you suggested.

You can but the easiest way to do it is add the .bak to yhe modded mixer, then remove the bak from the saved one reboot and now your on stock sound and youll still have the modded in there saved just in case. Just be sure to tick mount r/w before you rename and reboot. Glad it helped you.
Got it. Also it makes sense that if the values are changed a second time the bak file that was saved will be overwritten. Found this on the thread for the volume boosting zip thread. I will give these a try too

im assuming it all depends on your phone. start out at 87 and put your volume up, if its distorted or sounds like its going to break something, then change the number down a little at a time till it fits your needs. my numbers were a little different than the OP's numbers.

Guys it seems like it varies a bit phone to phone. On my wifes phone I am able to go to 90 buy it distorts at full volume. So I backed it down to 89 and it is perfect for her. I tested it on 91 on her phone and it actually broke the volume. She lost the volume completely on speakerphone. So im pretty sure that on every phone therre will be a setting that is too high and brakes volume. I would stick to 90 as being the highest than work your way down until no distortion. If 90 is not loud enough than give it a shot on 91 or even 92. It may work for you but like I said 90 was max for my wifes S5. GL
@sshafranko do you know anything about the mic volume levels? I have increased mine as people seem to say i'm too quite (i talk softly on the phone) but i'm not sure if they are actually working or which ones actuall effect the in call volume as well as speakerphone mic volume. I notice there are two volume levels for some of the mics, an ADC2 and a DEC# volume. what is what there? Thanks!

Lock Screen

hi! I come from a nexus 4 and I don't quiet like the Sony lock screen.. is there a way of changing it with a stock android one?
I kinda second this.
While there are numerous apps that act as lockscreen replacements, none of them actually do the job well. The one that comes closest to pure AOSP is Holo Locker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobint.locker), but it's closer to ICS than it is to KitKat.
'Tis a shame since Sony's UI can actually be made to resemble AOSP, except for the single most seen screen on the phone -- the lockscreen (even the wallpaper can only be a static image ffs).

If you don't use Pin or Pattern protection you can try disabling the lockscreen alltogether. The wallpaper thing was annoying me also. I've turned the thing off, works just fine to me.

I do prefer having a swipe lockscreen of some sort to place a widget (such as CLock) to be able to see things with a single push of a button, without really unlocking. Sony's way of doing lockscreens is just absurd, especially the way you can't set the background to match your homescreen. And those sparkles, ugh, don't even get me started.
Xperia Xposed let my live wallpaper show on lock screen
Tried many Xposed Xperia modules, all of them got me a bootloop.

I swear there is no XperiaLockScreen in there. And no, I didn't delete it, else I'd leave an .odex behind. Despite it missing, it's still working perfectly. Or, rather, as Sony intended it to work (which is, for me, far from perfect).
(See the attachment if you don't believe me -- I always leave .odex behind when I delete system apps just in case something goes wrong and I have to restore it from an earlier backup)
I absolutely love ACDisplay, similar to the motorola lock screen, and I really like the minimalist approach. I set it to show my background instead of the black screen and I think it looks great in combination with Tapet wallpaper app.

Can AcDisplay be set as the lockscreen (that is, can it be set to show itself even when there are no notifications)?
Having it wake up the screen will probably drain the battery as well, so unless there's a way to basically set it to act as a normal lockscreen, I'd avoid it.

The XTP one is pretty much empty, no res folder, just the manifest and meta-inf. The keyguard is interesting though -- this is Sony's lockscreen!
Any chance replacing this with an older Xperia's Keyguard would work?
And to answer my own previous question -- AcDisplay can be made into the lockscreen. A damn good one, too, though I'd still like a system app.

Yes you can set it to be as a normal lock screen. It works great, especially with double tap --> double tap to wake up (check clock or notifications) and again double tap to turn off the screen.
You can also set that notifications don't wake up the phone.
