[MOD] Long Press Back for Menu/Remove 3 dot on screen menu - AT&T HTC One (M7)

This mod will remove the on screen 3 dot menu bar and restore the Option under Settings/Display, Gestures, and Buttons for Back Button Options, letting you choose Press for back, press and hold for menu (as shows in the screenshot). This mod will not enable Menu functionality in Prism (the sense launcher). This will work on Stock/Rooted, odexed or deodexed. Flash in recovery, wiping dalvik and cache afterwards is necessary. Contains a slightly modified Settings and build.prop with a line added to remove the 3 dot menu bar - built from ATT's 1.26.502.10
Also included is a mod to enable the back button settings, but leave the 3 dot menu bar. And one will go back to stock Settings. Note that this is based off of the ATT software like stated above. If you've flashed this to another build, and you want to go back to stock, you need your Settings.apk. If you're stock ROM was odexed, you also need Settings.odex. Put them both (with 7zip on a PC) in /system/app/ of the bk2stock zip and flash away. Not a bad idea to also use your stock build.prop if you're going back

Good to hear! Thanks for the report.

great job man, gonna try this immediately

What code did you change to enable back button as menu? I would like to try this on a different base.

It's in the display flags smali
To remove the 3 dot menu bar, it's just a build.prop edit (last line of the build.prop included in the package posted)

Anyone run into a problem trying to disable the mod and get the 3 dot menu back? When I select always go back from gestures the 3 dot won't show up nor does the long press work.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Yea the 3 dot was permelanently removed by this mod.. no configuring it, so if you turn the back button menu setting off, you won't have any menu other than the in app menu that has been the android standard since Ics. I'll provide another .zip this afternoon that leaves the 3 dot menu but also enables the back button setting

Wait... with this mod? or the debloat script?
This mod shouldn't remove anything other than the 3 dot menu bar. The debloat script should remove the kindle app, since Amazon let ATT call it ATT Amazon Kindle, it became ATT Bloat

Three simple questions

Hello folks.
I want to ask two questions->
* I hid some apps (dirty minds should not think about that....) in order to hide the tools i used for customizing my hpone. I hid them by opening app drawer, going to options->hide apps. But now i cant find any option to show them. Can anyone tell me where its located?
* When is final version of JB going to release for galaxy s3? Every rom has a new update almost every week. I am tired of updating my rom and installing things again and again. But now i have decided to wait till final release. So when is final JB going to be released?
* What is meaning of "ZipAlign". I see many roms zip align apps. How is it useful? What is its meaning?
Tnx to helper.

Obviously not that simpel or you wouldn`t have to post these questions:
1. Search with root explorer or similar app for that file
2. Official JB will roll out within 3-4 weeks i guess, maybe earlier leaks on sammobile
3. Zipalign, see http://developer.android.com/tools/help/zipalign.html
Use the search button, all your questions could have been googled and anwered under 2 minutes mate, but off course it is much more convenient for you to let others search for your answers

[MOD]remove power save notification icon [rooted only]

Hi
I'm not a developer, but a good observer and tester.
I found a clear and safe method (at least for me) to get ride of the annoying notification icon of power save even after booting.
I'm very sorry if this method was already founded (because i didn't do a deep search), so please guys you can tells me if this method exist already or not when you find it elsewhere.
OK, for this mod we need :
1. unlocked rooted hox+ (at least international, but i went some AT&T guys to test it for me) and i think it will wok for them also because this mod affect only the "com.htc.htcpowermanager".
2. Install "system tuner" from play store or any other apps that can modified the events in system apps (but i recommend the system tuner because it is free and very easy to modify the events).
3. Go to system apps tab and then htcpowermanager (power app) as shown in 1st photo.

Then go to details as below
Then go to the following event:
"powersaver.powersavernotificationreceiver" and unchecke it as below
Then reboot directly.
That it, after reboot you will find that there is no icon in the notification area for power saver.
Thank

I don't think this is the same solution because you freeze the power app completely (that's means you will loss the entire benefits of this amazing option in jelly bean, from reduce UI power supply to disabled the entire return vibration of the device).
But with my method, it will disabled only notification event without disabling the functionality of this amazing app

but you must sure it has the package name com.htc.htcpowermanager as in the 2nd screen-shot

At first the power save mode thing being persistent bugged me. But to be honest I actually like using it now. Unless it's a rare occasion that I'm gaming or something, I dont really notice the difference when it's on. but my battery sure notices. it does a decent job of extending battery life without really hurting user experience that much. of course if you're very frequently attached to USB and constantly charging at work or something it's a non-issue and is probably annoying... but especially on weekends if I'm out running errands all day it comes in handy.
That being said, it's great that you found this. most of the time HTC Sense stuff is so interdependent on random elements from stuff here and there that you don't expect. so it's cool that this option to disable it exists.

Great Mod! Worked like a charm...rooted, stock, odex with cubed 1.4.9 kernel
The genius of this is it makes the DNA an even more one handed phone for me...as it was annoying that on most apps the on screen menu button was top right, especially web browsing
With the hard button remapped to menu, the right thumb can do all!! (especially with swipe to wake/off with the 1.4.9 cubed kernel).

[How-To][CM10.1] Disable HW keys, and enable softkeys

Not sure if it has been tackled here yet, but it just took me half an hour to figure this out. So to make the world a better place, without further adieu: How-to disable your galaxy note's capacitive Hardware keys, and enable soft keys on CM10.1.
1. Go into your build.prop file with a text editor, which is found in your system folder on the root of your internal memory.
2. Go to the bottom of the file, and enter the following without the quotes "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0", save the file. (This turns on softkeys on reboot)
3. Now find the melfas_touchkey.kl file, which is found in system>usr>keylayout. (This turns off capacitive keys on reboot.) Delete all the information in that file, it should look like this before the deletion:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Back out of the file explorer, go into the settings app, click advanced, move over to sensors and uncheck "Enable keys backlight" (this turns off the backlight when you touch the screen)
5. You're done, reboot your phone, and enjoy your new softkeys!
Best part about this is that the capacitive key notification lights still work!
To reverse any of this, do the exact opposite of this guide (re-enter the info in that touchkey.kl file, remove the qemu line in the build.prop and turn the capacitive backlight back on in settings)
Anyone know how to do this with the Official Jelly Bean ROM. I tried to do this with Official ICS as well with poor results.
Inputting
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Will result in having on-screen keys but the back and multi tasking buttons are reversed.
I can find Melfas under the key layout...
And how to disable backlight of the capacitive buttons cos there isn't that option in settings.
That's strange...the screen shot didn't show my on screen keys??
It is menu, multi tasking, home and back on this screen.
Of course when back inn the home screen it reverts to three buttons: multi tasking, home and back button. I'd like it to be in this order: back, home then multi tasking

I've been using this for a while on jamies super nexus rom. You might need to use exposed because the buttons don't show on landscape in some layouts. cool to know it works on cm that means it should work on jamies chameleon os rom. I also Use jamies disable captivate lights to make full use of the nav bar.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Just out of curiosity.. what is the point of this? I've seen a bunch of people doing this, a bunch of custom roms support this. To me it just seems like you're taking up more screen space for buttons that are already built into the phone. Is there some added functionality I'm missing?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Its mostly personal preference unless you have a device with broken hard keys. I dislike the hard buttons and disable them. I know in roms like jamies supernexus its the only way you can access the recent apps menu. You only lose like an inch of screen not that big of a deal imo.

To be honest, I have no idea why this isn't working on the touchwiz rom, but I'm not really that surprised by it. Can't help you guys there unfortunately.
Is there a way to get soft keys working for note sgh i717 on Pac ROM V23 4.2.2?
I tried this method on it and it didn't work.
I also tried searching everywhere to find a way but so far this is the only way...

Kindle Fire HD 7" Tablet APP UI

So, I noticed there are literally 0 threads on how to enforce the Tablet UI on apps inside of our device. I realize that this may be common sense to some people but I figured there would be SOMETHING. However to my knowledge it is not included in any rom available (other than the new PA rom by -a-, Props to him for making the attempt) that includes a tablet UI of any kind. So here is the very simple method.
Tweaks:
1. Download ROM toolbox LITE
2. Open ROM toolbox LITE
3. Slide over to PERFORMANCE
4. TAP BUILD.PROP Editor
5. Find ro.sf.lcd_density (IN CM10.1 this is set to 213 by default)
6. Change this to 160 to avoid any conflicting issues with the market.
7. Reboot as instructed by ROM toolbox LITe
8. Everything except Status bar will now run in Tablet mode. (im workin on it lol)
9. PROfIT.

Hashcode mentioned this but there were issues with 160 on his cm10.1 that involved the play store.
Nice find though.

Im using his 10.1 and there are no play store issues with tablet mode enabled. Probably just an unupdated OP. This works perfectly, and I will stand by that, I have not had any issues so far with anything I have done and much prefer it.
Im just tired so im sorry if anything I say comes off rude. This works perfectly fine on CM10.1 for our device, it may not have for a previous version of his rom, it does for his current.
Not rude at all. We are all here just helping one another.

It doesn't get rude 'til I'm here.

Thank you, this is awesome!!!
Using the tabletUI rom of hashcodes CM10.1 is so much easier though.
Thank you got this and sorry for bumping am old thread but. .. When I did this it messed up the lock screen. It's a totally different slide lock that won't unlock unless I do so as soon as it boots.
Also, how did you get the nexus style buttons at the bottom of your screen?

It does work! Thank you. But the UI fonts are too small once switched to tablet mode. Any idea on how to adapt that?
