[Q] At&t sim for prepaid? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I live in OKC and t-mobiles service in the metro is great. However there are times when we go camping or travel out of state in directions where there is no service and I rely on a data connection at all times in case a server goes down and I have to fix it. I was looking at the prepaid At&t plans and they charge 1 cent per 5 kb. That comes out to $1000 dollars for just 1/2 a GB of data. Is there any other pre-paid sim card plans that works on At&t towers with cheaper data rates? I would need voice capabilities as well but per minute charges really aren't a concern.

Straight Talk.

[Q] AT&T GoPhone SIM card data speeds too low?

I'll be spending some time in the US and got the $50 AT&T unlimited GoPhone plan. Everything looks fine except my data speeds are too low. I get 500 kbps, while the signal says H+. (Btw I had to call them to put my IMEI in their database so that the data is enabled). In Serbia I'd get 4-5 Mbps with H+, sometimes higher. What's the deal?
I found the same thing with the Rogers/Fido network in Vancouver. Galaxy S II only gets 3 Mbps where as on the Bell network it had over 8 Mbps.
If you don't have an agreement with AT&T are there any other networks you can try that may offer better speeds in your area?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
The Goplan has a data speed cap, that's why it's so cheap.
I wouldn't call $50 a month cheap... but anyway, is there any way around it?

You'd have to switch to a post paid plan instead of prepaid.
Except there's a 2 year contract requirement and I'm only going to be here by the end of december.
If you read the fine print the $50 unlimited is only for non-smart phones. The sgii will not work, you will have to add a data plan to use the internet. I'm kind if in the same boat (I'm on a gophone plan), I can no longer send mms without enabling data. They ran a sweep and found out which phone I was using. The sgii is not supported on the network, or so I was told because it is a 4g phone. So I'm back to the inspire.

Help picking prepaid service for streak

I was going to go with simple mobile but then saw I would only be able to get EDGE so I was thinking about getting a gophone and using that so I can get 3G. I went to go pick up a go phone simply and saw the 50 plan says its not for smartphone.
Will my internet work if I just get the monthly unlimited plan? Are there any other options and if i was to just go with simple mobile simple is EDGE that slow?
Any help is appreciated!!!
have you looked into h2o wireless? Last i heard they functioned on at&t network so you'd get full 3g
Yea I have looked at H20 and I'm not sure how long 1gb of data is gonna last for 60 a month. I know in the past I saw people using go phone sims with iphones and just wanted to know lf it's still working while getting internet on the 50 a month plan without buying a data plan also..l
hey this is off topic but, your talking about these data plans etc, ive seen a few posts on here regarding this. in my opinion they all seem a little pricey?
what exactly are you getting for 50 or 60 dollars a month?? here in the uk for 15 usd(10 gbp) i get 250 mins any network, unlimited texts any network, and unlimited data, which is hsdpa (7.2mbps) or 3g in lower signal areas
so my question is what are you getting for your money and why so expensive?
also im pay as you go, are your plans contract or pay as you go?
Only att is pricey, if you have metro pcs or simple mobile its only 50 a month with unlimited talk text and web.
But why is it so pricey?? I guess its a contract??

I really don't know.
Does anybody know if using the sim from a e71 with straight talk still working?
I use 3 in the UK
The One Plan.
2,000 any network minutes
5,000 Three-to-Three minutes
5,000 texts and All You Can Eat internet ( With no "fair usage" policy, you can use all the data you want at no extra cost. )
£25 p/m
And tethering is allowed
Anybody else got any info???

HTC Amaze on Straight Talk-- ATT or Tmo sim??

Hi guys I an recently switching from Verizon over to Straight Talk to save some money. 45$ a month unlimited.. You can't beat it. Anywho here is my dilemma. I live in Michigan and out in the country on a lake where reception isn't that great as it is but it's still functional. I want to know if I should use the TMO Sim or the ATT Sim they offer. I already have a Tmo sim I can activate but if I do and the service sucks they said I need to change my number to get the att sim switched in. My question is will it give me any insight into my possible reception if I put in the sim b4 activating it and drive around? Bc it seems to show bars for awhile then just drop off and say no service after awhile for about 10mins then it comes in and out intermittently. Any insight is appreciated thank you!!
On another note I heard about some att /Tmo roaming agreement? If I could roam atts voice service all should be well right? Or is that not for mvno carriers? I really like my number or else I'd take the chance!

I use my amaze with tmo sim on striaght talk and it works perfect! Everything is working great. I have awesome reception. 4g works great and I can tether my tablets and laptop all for 45 bucks a month. Took a lil while to get the apn settings right for everything to work because straight was telling the wrong settings but I got it right now and its awesome!

We all know those coverage maps don't mean jack lmfao. Hey gamble what are your apn settings so I can try them out and see how it goes. It has decent service with the unactivated sim card but keeps kicking to "no service" not sure if this is just from not being activated or the service is spotty.

Is there a data cap on strait talk? Also how are the 4G speeds on strait talk compared to the 4G on tmobile. I was going to switch to Metro PCs just to save money. I am getting tired of paying 210 dollars for 3 lines.

Consider looking into Walmarts T-mobile Prepaid 4G plan if the Straight Talk doesn't have good coverage.
$30 for 100 minutes, and unlimited text and data (5GIG of 4G data).
If you prepaid it with credit card, you get $5 off making it $25.
I love the plan, and only ONCE have gone over the 5G of data. Speeds average 2-6MB, and with good coverage up to 15-20MBps

I thought straight talk piggy backed right off of AT&T so wherever AT&T customers get coverage you would get coverage?

Lg Mytouch on ST?
This sounds very interesting. We own our phones, One Amaze one LG MyTouch (wifes).
Wonder if the lg would work on Straight talk?
Is Straight talk 4g service "LTE" ?
thinking of switching from simple mobile... do any of you guys have issues with throttling? simple mobile throttles same as t-mo does after 2GB... also, what SIM card do I need for it to work? I have an old at&t SIM and a couple old T-Mo SIMs... do they require you to use one of theirs? If so, where do you get it? I went by my local wally world and they only sold the stupid phones and re-up cards, no SIMs and the person that was available was zero help... any info would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm not too worried about the speed difference, I'm in a large metro area, so I'm sure it won't be a huge difference whether I use t-mo or at&t...
ok, well I found the SIM on their site, ordered it, got free shipping... will purchase the unlimited plan when I receive the SIM and will report back with some comparison (to SimpleMobile) photos... I just went the "unlocked GSM phone" route instead of choosing one or the other, which I guess means it's equivalent of going the att route...

Yeah..i did the same thing. Supposedly they pick best SIM for your area. I say if you know what phone you have and what service is better in your area, just pick it instead of letting them. I ended up with ATT and signal was horrible at my house, dropped calls all the time. So i recently swapped over to ST TMO SIM and it's been amazing. I had verizon and it was terrible (at my house), sprint was the worst, no signal whatsoever. I don't live out in the country or anything either. It's like a dead spot just at my house, my brother lives down one block from me and has verizon and is great for him.
Anyhow...ST TMO with a Samsung Galaxy Blaze gets 10MB/s down and 1MB/s up. Download speeds faster then my home ISP.
Only had ST TMO for a week and it's been alot better then ATT for me. So it will be trial and error. Whatever fits best for you, but what's good about it is that SIM card is only $15 if you have to try the other one.
Good luck!

I just bought the Tmo SIM, the ATT service was horrible (Orlando, FL) dropped more calls this month than I have in the last 3yrs... absolute SHYTE!!! FU ATT!!! soooooo happy that "merger" failed hard on it's face!!!
Just my two cents hope this clarifies st just pays Atat and t-mobile to use there network, servers etc. They can't alter it ie. Roaming agreements. So if you have.both sims try them both to see which works better t-mobile still gives 4g I don't think Atat can on st. Also ive changed a number from a phone to a sim while it was activated.

Important: When you buy a ST sim card you will have a choice between at&t or t-mobile networks.
http://www.straighttalk.com/shopsims
If you chose.. "Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)" this is the at&t network card.
If you chose.. "T-Mobile Compatible Phone" this is the t-mobile network card.
You can buy both cards and switch networks without losing your minutes or being charged for switching networks. In the your ST control panel both cards (after registration) will be listed as available options.

[Q] {Q} Straight Talk vs. AT&T go phone

I have been using gophone service for the last year or so and it's so epensive. My mother on the other hand has been paying 45 bucks for unlimited talk/text. I pay 60 bucks a month for a 2gb data unlimited tet/talk package + 2 gig's of add'l data (80-90 bucks total a month)...She just got this 45 dollar package that contains 4 sim card's (2 micro/standard sim cards & 2 nano sim cards). Well I got her phone working (it wasnt hard, it's not a smartphone)..I used a micro-sim card, inserted it into the slot...The phone tells me to reboot so I did..I expect to see bars or something but nothing happens. I than went to the apn settings and it has att, att phone, att broadband, att lte, straight talk & straight talk.mnvo...None of them work and all of them are forcing me back to the 3g selection instead of LTE preferred...How can I active a sim card that isnt showing me the right apns to give my phone (lg optimus g e970) data ? I really have no desires to go back to at&t go phone service....ST would give me 2.5 gb of high speed data + unlimited data/text for 45 bucks a month (a big difference in money)....once you use up the 2.5 gb of data it switches to using 2g data for data....when you use all your data with gophone, you have to buy another 1gb data package (10 bucks)...I dont have wifi....
You may wanna be concise in your description of issues. Too much unrelated stuff mixed in, my eyes are losing track
Try this:
Name: straight talk
APN: tfdata
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS PROXY: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS PORT: 80
MMS:80
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
Also you may need to call straight talk to activate the sims
yeah that apn was already included, I selected it. I went back to the mobile settings menu and selected LTE as preferred than pressed the back button. I went back to mobile settings and it was on 3g...No bars, ...I guess I do need to call ST just to activate the card...the pack my mother got contains onlye 1 service pin card but comes with 4 different sim cards (all with different serial numbers)...I really thought Id be able to stick the sim card in my phone and it show me if I actually get 4g LTE service on this phone thru ST...I didnt want to pay the 45 or 60 bucks for a plan for it to not work than have to pay an additional 60 bucks for ATT go phone service. When ST did not work...I did check the compatibility thru the straight talk website. It did say the phone was compatible with the e970. If you have a 4g LTE phone, wouldnt you want 4g LTE and not just 3g or HSPA+
I'm on straight talk too. You get att 4g lte with straight talk on this phone
This isn't a shared plan, you and you mom can't both use one 45 dollars plan. If your mom use a dumb phone she can use the All You Need plan through straight talk, which is even cheaper than this.
Also don't get too excited, the 4g lte you get through straight talk isn't gonna be as fast as att customers.

Im not sure Ive ever heard that before, but thanks for the heads up...I guess Ill stick with att go phone. So why did you choose straight talk and not att go phone ? the only reason I was thinking about getting ST was b/c of the 2.5 gb's of data given to the 45/60 buck plan and the fact that you still have data when you've used up the 2.5 gig's...With att go phone, you get 2 gb's with the 60 dollar plan...You have a choice of buying an additional 1gb package of 10 dollars...So say tommorrow when I get paid...Ill end up having 4 gb's of data...but all of that data is a constant speed, there is no cap on speed....I watch what I download, dont usually download anything over 10mb's when using data....Ive watched porn a few times (streams) but im not sure how much data is used to stream a short clip or a continuous stream....I know FB is a huge data hog, so I try to limit my time on FB...There is wifi around my neighborhood but I only use it when Im downloading roms

I had go phone long time ago. It was expensive so got rid of it for virgin mobile. Their beyond talk plan is 35, 300 minutes was not enough anymore, also tired of cdma phone so switched to ST. With ST you still get 2.5 gbs of data and unlimited 2g data after 2.5 is exhausted. The saving is what's real, man. Looks like you also work, so I'm sure you understand this. Prepare myself for an hour on the phone with ST retards if your switching your # over too
I stuck with at&t gophone....might do the switch later down the road..no idea, start college in may...do minds focused on that and everything

It is here. I compared my ST speeds to two coworkers AT&T LTE phones last month. (Yeah, we're reeeeaaal productive some days.) Using the same servers, my speeds were nearly identical to one S4 and we were both a hair faster than a Samsung Note (3?) that we borrowed for the test.
All three were much faster than I was getting with a T-mo SIM for Simple Mobile, whether on LTE or or not. I'm leary of anything at Walmart, and I did have issues signing up and porting my number, but I've been happy with my three months on ST, especially after seeing more consistent coverage when travelling. I was mostly happy with T-Mo's network before I had an LTE-capable phone, but I'll stick to ST/AT&T.

[Q] Advise needed on Sim for USA visit

Hi all
Visiting the states next week
LV and LA area for about ten days
need advice on 2 gsm/3g sim cards prepaid
after mainly data prob lots of it and going to make about 4 calls all up
have nexus 5 phones
what you guys use
Thanks in Advance
Anyone?
Ps i live on the other side if the world so have no idea who the providers are
Depends on what you mean by "lots of data".
With pre-paid and a GSM phone, you'll be using an MVNO or subsidiary of either AT&T or T-Mobile. AT&T will give you better overall coverage, but T-Mobile has a strong network in both LA and LV. MetroPCS uses T-Mo's network and you can get a plan with unlimited high-speed (LTE) data for $60. A bit pricey for only 10 days, but you don't have to worry about data caps, throttling, or refilling your "bucket" or card. Plus you can bypass their tethering provisioning and use your data on a laptop without having to worry about finding a hotspot or paying for the hotel's crappy wifi.

A convenience store or airport, probably not. At the airport though, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't at least a kiosk or even an actual store within the airport, or at least very close by.

I honestly don't know how activation would work. I imagine it differs from company to company. From what I gather, activation with MetroPCS when buying a device or signing up for service is free. But if you do it at an "authorized retailer", they might charge a fee. I don't know if they charge for a SIM card or not. Cricket, for example, charges $10 for a SIM, activation in-store is $25, but free if you do it online.
I've traveled and a lot of the major ports offer Sim card kiosks/machines or you can find them in a store at the international terminals
Usually its from carrier mvno mostly that specialize in this type of thing.
