[Q] Sudden reboot after reverting back to stock, stuck on logo - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I gave my girlfriend my S2 as I got a new phone. I was running JellyBam ROM with DorimanX kernel and I used this procedure to revert back to stock Sammy ROM:
1: Boot to recovery
2: Format /data, /system, internal memory
3: Wipe cache, Dalvik
4: Factory reset
5: Flash latest stock nordic ROM via Odin
Reboot, everything was as expected.
My girlfriend set up the phone, downloaded apps from market and used the phone as normal.
Suddenly the phone had rebooted and was stuck on GT-I9100 logo. Battery in/out, no effect. Still stuck on logo.
I entered stock recovery, made a factory reset. Phone booted, and have behaved as it should since, everything seems to be working.
I'm afraid that the device will do this again. What I would like to know is: Have I done anything wrong in reverting to stock? Did I miss anything? Should I have been running a kernel cleaning script or something?
Can anyone explain why this happened?
Thanks,
Hvilsted

I do not know why it happened, as u seem to have covered every kind of wipe.
I usually do a factory reset after flashing via Odin just to be sure. Maybe that was the reason?

LOL.
Maybe not but her Wildfire S needed to be laid to rest. She squized the poor thing for every last drop of life. I couldn't stand watching it. I was like seeing a small animal getting tortured.
BTW, can you believe that Wildfire S has a notification LED and the S2 does not? I will never understand why Samsung left that out. And iPhone 5 doesn't even have one. I just don't get it.

I had the same problem when I tried to reset flash counter with Triangle Away, I've flashed Siyah Kernel and done a Wipe Cache & Dalvik Cache and... Problem Solved

You can use BLN for notifications on the S2. The soft key lights act as notification lights.

Yeah, I know and I have been using it myself but in that price range it really should have a LED.
Not that it is a topic worth of discussion, it just crossed my mind.

[Q] Hard Brick - Will Replacing MB Help?

So.... my SGS2 froze all of a sudden while I was using it and it didn't respond to anything (even the 10 second power button press). Hence I took the battery out and tried to reboot it. It was stuck in a boot loop (this has happened in the past, where a restart caused the phone to not boot for unknown reasons. It feels like some memory chip in the phone is corrupted or sometihng. But it hasn't happened in quite a while).
Anyway, I was on ICS (WanamLite I believe) so I thought why not try JB? I downloaded the firmware from SamMobile and tried to flash it in Odin.
First attempt: Failed. Unplugged and rebooted into download mode.
Second attempt: Failed. Couldn't power off of took the battery out and bam! The phone has never woken up again since.
Now I can't get into recovery or download mode. Neither does the USB jig get it into download mode. Nothing. Blank.
I guess my best bet is to replace the main board?
(warranty is long over).

If it is a hard brick, JTagging may help. Or ultimately you could replace the motherboard. No guarantee that it would work though.

Well.... technically I didn't interrupt odin flash. At least I think I wasn't.... Because it was already showing "Failed".
Are you sure it's long over, warranty that is; SII's been out for 2 years this april may.
Anyway, ask a friend for a hand with the following:
Do the combo thing (DL combo) without the battery and ask that friend of yours to insert the battery just after you start hitting it.
Make sure the battery's got juice.
Jtag could also be the answer but you really need to see if you're hard bricked or not.

I had something similar happen on my S2. I was in the middle of applying a rom via either CWM or mobile odin when the phone froze and after a while turned off never to turn on again.
I sent it to a repair shop and to a contact in Samsung but it was proper borked. JTag job to repair it. I don't think there is anyone in Ireland doing that kind of work.
I kept my eye open for an S2 with a smashed screen. Got one 2 weeks ago. Swapped mobo's and was good to go. Essentially it was the other guys phone in my casing as it was locked to 3 network, had all his photos, music etc. I rooted, unlocked flashed my carriers stock rom and away I went.
Hope this helps.

Hi, yes, considering that I bought my phone in early June 2011, it's definitely out of warranty. I'm not sure about other countries, but here it's only one year.
Anyway what's this DL combo that you mentioned? A search on "dl combo" didn't give my any good results.

[SOLVED] Media Process Battery Drain

These didn't work:
I have tried disabling the media scanner (rescan media root).
I have scanned my pictures/music for corrupt files and found none.
I uninstalled the Download app which surprisingly worked for a while, but the problem has come back again after a week or two.
The three processes which are listed as possibilities are "Download Manager / DRM Protected Content Storage (I have none) / Media Storage" - I tried disabling each one but to no avail.
I tried rebooting in safe mode but nothing changed, so it's not a third party app.
I never had this problem when I was unrooted on stock, but I can't think what could be causing the problem.
The process is called android.process.media
Help, please?
Please provide more info on which GS2 model u have, what firmware/ROM you are running and whether rooted or not.
And have you tried moving Camera storage to External SD, and manually transferring all the files from DCIM folder of internal memory to the External SD?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
I have the international version, I'm on PAC ROM v22 rooted. I haven't installed my own kernel, but I think it's custom CWM based which came with the ROM...
I have camera set on external by default and have all my DCIM stuff in there anyway.
Could be a bug in the ROM then...
Have u tried asking in the PACman discussion thread? They could help u better...

Is there a DCIM folder in your internal SD?
Sent from the little guy
There was, but I deleted it. It just looked like cache files or something.
@immortalneo: Yeah, I've asked but we never came to any conclusion and even after trying another ROM the problem stayed.
I have the exact same problem... Tried everything you mentioned the only thing that works is disabling media scanner through the app Rescan media ROOT. However that's a half-assed solution cause the media scanner remains off till you re enable it.
Do the DCIM folder thing.....and keep both folders (DCIM), externally & internally.

Okay, no matter what I can't seem to get rid of this error. I've done a complete wipe and flashed a new ROM, but even after that the error persists. Could it possibly be some error which no software could fix?

I might be different on your ROM but have a look at my thread here in case it applies:

Make sure you only block the drmserver and see what happens.
Okay, I've flashed stock 4.1.2, so I'll try that out for a while with no apps, nothing in my SD card, no ext SD card and no SIM card. Let's see how that goes. If I have to I will go back to 4.0.3.
Edit: Seems to have worked, but I'll let it settle a while then bring back the apps, music, mobile service etc
Edit 2: And it's back again...this is ridiculous.
Media Process menace is always persistant intermittently no matter what has been done so far/tricks applied from this forum's members :banghead:
I still long for its solution since ages
search on google play "rescan media" u can disable scanner or scan again
Well, after going back to complete stock I can safely say the problem is gone (well, for now, who knows). No idea what the problem was but...glad I'm fine for now.

You know most problems do get solved by reflashing firmware. Sometimes those kinds of problems appear which even recognized dev's say that the solution is to reflash the firmware.
Now if you want to go fix a problem of which you have no knowledge about: would you..
a) Reflash firmware (you know that this will most certainly will fix the issue)
or
b) Spend day and night searching in the internet and fingering with your device like you have the time of the world... Most people dont have that amount of time.
So if your way is to dismantle the whole vehicle in search for a problem, then that's your way. But please don't disrespect others for their way to the solution.
BTW - These days, someone new who fixes the problem in any way by themselves is considered a victory

[Q] Did Husband root my phone and help getting it back to normal.

First off...Let's just say I have not had good luck with rooted phones. My husband has rooted my phones in the past and eventually I end up with more problems than what stock gave me.
He said he manually upgraded my phone to Jelly Bean(this is about a month or so ago)
To prove to me he didn't root it, he showed me it was not rooted on Rootchecker lite.
At first he had issues getting the gps to work, etc. Then he told me it was all set. However I cannot screen shot(power and volume down)
I want to put the phone back to how it was..Which is normal, before he manually upgraded. Now that Jelly Bean is OTA, I'd rather go that root. He tells me the Jelly Bean he put on mine is an earlier developer version. Anyway here is the info on my phone. Please help me figure out if its rooted and how to get it back to normal. When I wrote him and asked him, "Since you didn't rom my phone, I can just factory reset and it will go back to normal right?". He basically wrote me back from work saying he will not take responsibility if I screw my phone up. UM HELLO. I did nothing to the phone..he did.

Hmm, I am not an expert, but I think an USB Jig can solve your problem. Buy one from ebay or somewhere, it is not expensive.
In this case I suggest you to go to a software engineer because they have the necessary equipment.
To be honest I once crashed my sgs2 by rooting it with different version of build number. Even though I still could join the download mode and recovery mode I went to an engineer who immediately asked me if the phone still can go in that mods. He said it was bad if it doesn't. The good part is that he said it is fixable even if it doesn't go in that modes, but he needs to do more things which is pretty obviously makes the reparation more expensive.
To repair the phone he asked for 15 euros and to add the ICS (latest android version at that time) he asked for 5 euros.
Indeed it would be more expensive to you, but I think it is the most recommended.

[Q] My phone seems to be damaging the battery :(

Hey everyone, I recently replaced my phone's battery, it got kind of "bulky" (I don't know if that is the right word to use but it just got fat, just so you know what I mean ). Anyway, I got a new one and it worked fine for a couple of weeks. I noticed that it was was getting drained in about two hours. I've tried some new ROMS around and the problem persists. I got to the conclusion that it's nor the battery neither the ROM, but my phone, My new battery is damaged already, just like the previous one I just replaced. I'm asking here to see if somebody knows what might be going on with my phone. Also when it is unplugged, the battery icon shows like it is charging, and the only way I can turn off the phone is by taking out the battery; if I let the battery in the phone, it turns on by itself
If anyone can help, I'd be grateful, I have a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Why not take it to a Service Centre then?

These issues (I think) are caused by a faulty usb charger port. My wife was having similar issues with her S2.....I brought the part from ebay (be careful there are 3 versions) and swapped it out and the issues went away......

from my research, you could have what it called "high voltage manifestation", seems like the main problem is in your usb port, not the battery. .
you could replace it, just go to SSC

These issues (I think) are caused by a faulty usb charger port. My wife was having similar issues with her S2.....I brought the part from ebay (be careful there are 3 versions) and swapped it out and the issues went away......

from my research, you could have what it called "high voltage manifestation", seems like the main problem is in your usb port, not the battery. .
