Rooted my s3, restored backups from s2 and now messaging and contacts don't work - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all ,
Like the title says i recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i first rooted the phone and then i tried to restore backups from my S2 by using Titanium Back up Pro. Everything else works fine except for:
- Messaging fore closes every time i try to start it. I have deleted the user data to no avail. I think i restored the app from S2 and now its broken
- Contacts does work but in some contacts it links different persons together and i cant unlink those
Anyone know a solutions?
Thanks very much in advance

By restoring system apps from the S2 you will have broken the S3 framework. Wipe data, cache etc then flash a fresh copy of the stock ROM for your country and start again.
Only restore users apps, never system apps or data.

[Q]problem when Ti restoring app on my SII from Dell streak

Dear all,
I've experienced two problems when using Titanium Backup (newest version) restoring app from Dell streak (Froyo) to my new I9100 (UK O2 2.3.5), spent whole afternoon today search around and they seem to be quite unique... :
1, App-only restore works fine. However, if restore the data at the same time, apps always crash. Would this be because of the I9100 has "SD" and "external SD" while Streak only has "SD"?
2, The second problem is a long one and by my own fault. I accidentally "restored" the contacts system app and data from Dell streak to I9100...
This crashed my I9100's google framework, the phone dialer, the contacts, and the Messaging. The dialer and contacts icons simply disappeared from the launcher and the application list. A factory reset would not solve this problem.
Error messages were like "The application Google services Framework(process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. " and "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" etc.
I ROMed the phone firstly with a customer 2.3.4, the dialer etc. back to work. Then I ROMed it again with O2 stock 2.3.3, the dialer etc. icons were back too, BUT couldn't open with same ERR messages. Finally ROMed it with O2 stock 2.3.5, the dialer etc. back to work again.
Have I done this correctly and is there any better solutions? Shall I do a clean up to eliminate any bad residue files or better just leave it for now?
BTW my Kies recognize my O2 Stock ROM now so guess my future upgrade to ICS will be fine?
Many thanks in advance.
Anyone knows the answer to problem #1 with my titanium backup between 2.2 and 2.3.5 systems?
I'm about to add apps back to my I9100 today using Android market online. But would be very delighted if I can restore the data using Ti Backup as well. I have lots of personal data with Apps like Notes, V1golf, whatsapp, etc.
Thanks!
apps designed for froyo will not always work properly with gingerbread as the file structure is different, you may have to reload the data manually so that the sd card formats it correctly.
you should have wiped the cache and daavik cache before flashing, if the porblem persisted, you needed to do a factory reset to get rid of any stray code from flashing a back up that is in a different format.
Many thanks.
I'll manually reload as much data as I can...
The problem is not showing up after the 2.3.5 update. I'll backup my apps + datas every two months from now on, and keep the 2.3.5 O2 stock ROM.
Just in case the problem comes out again when upgrading to ICS... Is it likely to happen again? Or ICS upgrade via Kies will wipe the cache and daavik cache automatically?
It should not happen again as 2.3.5 and up will be compatible with ICs but when flashing it is always best to clean them yourself before flashing.
When ICS comes out read carefully and foloow the developers instructions as it will most like come out as a custom rom before official stock firmware comes out.
Is there any method of doing this cache cleaning during normal operation, which won't affect any personal data etc.?
Well, even this won't do any harm to the existing system, I'll backup everything on SD also copy to my PC before doing anything... Lesson already learned...

Trouble of transfer backups

Hey guys, I just got my S3 yesterday. I encountered some problems and I think should be no one met this problem, hope some of you can help me.
Previously I was using SGS, and I rooted and flashed a custom rom which is this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442169&highlight=doc+s+rom
So, I did Titanium Backup and GO backup (for spare) on SGS. On S3, I rooted it for installing Titanium Backup, I copied the Titanium Backup files and move it all into my S3 through PC.
Both devices running on same android version 4.0.4, SGS is on custom rom but S3 is still on stock rom. At first I think my files on SGS can be transfer and backup on S3, but eventually I did all the backups, but all the apps (only user apps) are still cannot open, such as LINE, Talkbox, Whatsapp and etc. Open the app and it will close it automatically.
And also, some of the apps such as LINE needs to register with the phone number. Previously I registered on SGS, now my number transfer to S3 and LINE cannot be open in SGS anymore. When I backup in S3 and it ask me to register with phone number, and I did, but it became a new app, no chat history, no added friends. Is it because I register on S3 and so my SGS does not recognize the LINE app?
What I concerned about is the chat history, I need it so much. Everytime I flashed a new custom rom, I did the backups on SGS, from GB 2.3.3 until ICS 4.0.4, and the backups are works. But this time, I really cannot figure out what problem I am having now.
I still using the same number, from a normal SIM to micro SIM,
1. Is it because does not working to transfer file from different devices?
2. Is it because my number use on a new device, and all the previous data cannot be transfer?
Any kind soul please give me some guidance?
I really NEED to transfer the old chat history into my S3, I don't want to lose it because it is my memories.
generally its not advisable to restore a backup of one device to another device, but as you said its working for you earlier. try restoring the apps alone in TB and later restore the data of the specific apps you need.

Thanks for reply. Yes is working only in SGS.I tried restoring the app alone in TB and restore the data of the specific app in S3, and is still not working. It still close automatically.
Does anyone knows how to restore a backup from one device to another device?
Or maybe I transfer back my number to my SGS, and everything will be same as before?

[Q] How to uninstall Cyanogenmod 10 and restore Touchwis

Hello everybody,
I'm New to these forums and i'm a TOTAL noob. About a week ago
I wanted excitedly to flash CyanogenMod 10 and succeeded.
I made a Nandroid backup to my internal SD card and copied it into my
computer. Now I have tried via CWM recovery to restore my
personal files, for example apps, contacts, messages, etc. and,
for some reason, it FAILS to recover them. And, not only that,
but I've started to hate CM10 also. It stinks. It has got only a small
part of things compared to Touchwis. I desperately tried to restore it
and found out something about "flashing a stock rom and doing a full wipe".
I'm starting to freak out because all my apps and contacts are
so close but i can't access them!!! And the good ol' Touchwis.
I just can't get it back. I regret tuhat I ever installed
the CyanogenMod. I have a Samsung Galaxy S 3
GT-i9300 phone. Please, van you help me?

1)Your contacts should have been synced with your Gmail account. Sync Gmail and it should work.
2) you should have done a titanium backup for the apps! In any case just re download all the apps from the app store. Play store saves which apps you have downloaded since the first one.
3) should have used sms backup and restore for the messages. What format are the messages in?
4) as for stock, download the stock firmware from sammobile.com for your specific device. Copy it to internal sd. Wipe/factory reset. Cwm recovery it, wipe there if need be, clear cache and flash the zip for official.

[Q] Do not get drunk and play with Titanium Backup restoring

Hello people and geeks,
I just got a new phone, Galaxy S4, and I did a Titanium Backup (pro) on my two years old phone, Galaxy S2 (CM 10.2).
So I put the sdcard from S2 to the S4 and I was about to restore the backup when my girlfriend invited me to go to a craft brewery local festival. Then we went there and drank a lot of the best quality beers that I tasted in my life. :silly:
When I came back home, there was my brand new S4 phone waiting me to restore Titanium Backup from ssdcard.
I can't remember very well, because I was pretty much drunk, but I did the restore.
To short the story, I ended up with a inoperable phone, showing error messages every second after boot up. To solve it I did a factory reset and installed Samsung's stock ROM.
Now the phone don't show errors anymore and seems to be working well, as would be expected.
Here it goes where I need your help, mates:
The apps menu on S4 is showing system apps restored from S2. Yes, by mistake I restored system apps from Titanium Backup.
Even after factory reset (from TWRP) and formating the /system and install stock ROM again, there are some apps from my old S2, I can't get rid them and don't know what to do.
What I can do to get the S4 back exactly to factory default?
There is any way from this system apps are being installed from SIM?
What the repartition feature from Odin does? It can be useful to my case?
Thank you in advance!
