[Q] Do not get drunk and play with Titanium Backup restoring - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people and geeks,
I just got a new phone, Galaxy S4, and I did a Titanium Backup (pro) on my two years old phone, Galaxy S2 (CM 10.2).
So I put the sdcard from S2 to the S4 and I was about to restore the backup when my girlfriend invited me to go to a craft brewery local festival. Then we went there and drank a lot of the best quality beers that I tasted in my life. :silly:
When I came back home, there was my brand new S4 phone waiting me to restore Titanium Backup from ssdcard.
I can't remember very well, because I was pretty much drunk, but I did the restore.
To short the story, I ended up with a inoperable phone, showing error messages every second after boot up. To solve it I did a factory reset and installed Samsung's stock ROM.
Now the phone don't show errors anymore and seems to be working well, as would be expected.
Here it goes where I need your help, mates:
The apps menu on S4 is showing system apps restored from S2. Yes, by mistake I restored system apps from Titanium Backup.
Even after factory reset (from TWRP) and formating the /system and install stock ROM again, there are some apps from my old S2, I can't get rid them and don't know what to do.
What I can do to get the S4 back exactly to factory default?
There is any way from this system apps are being installed from SIM?
What the repartition feature from Odin does? It can be useful to my case?
Thank you in advance!

[Q] dynamic config 335.data when restoring phone

Alright, first of all, yes, I'm a noob here, however I am not a noob to forums. I did search for similar problems but to no avail. Moving on..
I just recently put CM 7.2 on my dad's Droid X2, I had it working flawlessly and everything was fine. Created a nandroid backup and all was good.
Today he wanted to restore his phone back to that original nandroid in order to get his recipes and notes from some app that didn't transfer over (I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "dynamic config335.data" on his screen. Apparently, it locks at this and needs a battery pull to fix, and the restore never occurred.
We ended up doing this a second time and the same process occurred again. As I never had to deal with this with my DX2, i'm not quite sure what to do.
Any help would be great!
Thanks
You could try to sbf and then restore the nandroid.
DD you do not ID the restoration agent is it TB? Or what?
Ok so the error occurred after the suspected nandroid?
Here is where I get confused
"(I was unaware, or i would have saved them) when he did so he restored it and everything was going fine until the phone locked up with "
Restored it w/ cwr?

You'll have to slow it down with the acronyms until I know them all haha
After I rooted his phone, and before I flashed CM7, I created a Nandroid. After he's been tinkering with it for the last few days he realized he wanted some files that did not get transferred over.
He decided to restore to that nandroid and while it was restoring it got stuck with that appearing on his screen. It never finished the restore.
Luckily I had him make another nandroid before messing with it so I was able to get CM7 back unharmed however he still wants these files...
Do you guys recognize this error? It just happens mid restore
Never seen the error. You could just have a random error. Maggard.
...may have the best advice.
If you have Titanium Backup you could try using it to restore just the data that he needs. TB has the ability to restore files and data from nandroids. You may have to have the paid version though, I'm don't remember for sure.
Alrighty, i'll try and mess with it. Thanks guys!

Trouble of transfer backups

Hey guys, I just got my S3 yesterday. I encountered some problems and I think should be no one met this problem, hope some of you can help me.
Previously I was using SGS, and I rooted and flashed a custom rom which is this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442169&highlight=doc+s+rom
So, I did Titanium Backup and GO backup (for spare) on SGS. On S3, I rooted it for installing Titanium Backup, I copied the Titanium Backup files and move it all into my S3 through PC.
Both devices running on same android version 4.0.4, SGS is on custom rom but S3 is still on stock rom. At first I think my files on SGS can be transfer and backup on S3, but eventually I did all the backups, but all the apps (only user apps) are still cannot open, such as LINE, Talkbox, Whatsapp and etc. Open the app and it will close it automatically.
And also, some of the apps such as LINE needs to register with the phone number. Previously I registered on SGS, now my number transfer to S3 and LINE cannot be open in SGS anymore. When I backup in S3 and it ask me to register with phone number, and I did, but it became a new app, no chat history, no added friends. Is it because I register on S3 and so my SGS does not recognize the LINE app?
What I concerned about is the chat history, I need it so much. Everytime I flashed a new custom rom, I did the backups on SGS, from GB 2.3.3 until ICS 4.0.4, and the backups are works. But this time, I really cannot figure out what problem I am having now.
I still using the same number, from a normal SIM to micro SIM,
1. Is it because does not working to transfer file from different devices?
2. Is it because my number use on a new device, and all the previous data cannot be transfer?
Any kind soul please give me some guidance?
I really NEED to transfer the old chat history into my S3, I don't want to lose it because it is my memories.
generally its not advisable to restore a backup of one device to another device, but as you said its working for you earlier. try restoring the apps alone in TB and later restore the data of the specific apps you need.

Thanks for reply. Yes is working only in SGS.I tried restoring the app alone in TB and restore the data of the specific app in S3, and is still not working. It still close automatically.
Does anyone knows how to restore a backup from one device to another device?
Or maybe I transfer back my number to my SGS, and everything will be same as before?

Rooted my s3, restored backups from s2 and now messaging and contacts don't work

Hey all ,
Like the title says i recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 and i first rooted the phone and then i tried to restore backups from my S2 by using Titanium Back up Pro. Everything else works fine except for:
- Messaging fore closes every time i try to start it. I have deleted the user data to no avail. I think i restored the app from S2 and now its broken
- Contacts does work but in some contacts it links different persons together and i cant unlink those
Anyone know a solutions?
Thanks very much in advance
By restoring system apps from the S2 you will have broken the S3 framework. Wipe data, cache etc then flash a fresh copy of the stock ROM for your country and start again.
Only restore users apps, never system apps or data.

[Q] Galaxy S2 backup and restore issues

Hi Folks,
I apologise in advance for my limited knowledge, I am not as techy as I would like to be, but here is my issue:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100T) running Android 4.1.2. I made a habit of backing everything up on Kies version 2.6.0.13091_9.
Kies claims to have backed everything up but when my phone had some issues and was wiped, I tried to restore which worked fine except my sms messages where not restored. I have 3 years worth of sms's that are important to me.
Likewise, messages and content within programs like viber no longer appear but program content like say Whatsapp does.
My internet searches on resolving the matter lead me to here; can someone please bestow some of their wisdom upon me and help me get the complete backup back on my phone?
Thanks
Helpless Amateur.
Back up with cwm/twrp recovery. Make a nandroid of your rom and don't forget preload . Use google to back up you're contacts.use an app of play store to back up you're messages. BTW have you heard of Efs? You need to back that up too. Use hc ktool to back that up. It's also on play store.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your response, but my phone is already wiped and the only backup I have is what kies backed up (claiming it backed up everything including txt messages which are very important for me). I need to find a way to restore from that back up that I have.
Regards
Dunno much about kies, used it short, so I cant help here...
But when you deal with your problem and you feel that you need be much careful in the future:
I am using 3 thing when backing up. (and I do it often, I exchanged many ROMS)
1. Titanium backup is a must.
2. SMS Backup - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
3. Next Launcher Backup in its preferences...
Good luck finding your sms...

Help me in backing up Galaxy S3 before hard reset

Hi Friends,
I have just installed Jelly Bean 4.3 in my Galaxy S3 thru OTA. But its a bit lagy. People are suggesting to do a factory reset after installing 4.3 so that it will not be lagy.
I have many games, apps installed and I need the games' saved files and data to be backed up and restored after factory reset. Please let me know a way for this. My phone is not rooted so that I will not be able to use some backup apps which requires root for backing up games data files. I have some 100+ downloaded apps and games which I need to backup and restore them after factory reset. Help me!
Thanks in advance.
Without root you will manually have to copy and paste the saved folders from your internal sd card, there is no way to backup or restore the apps themselves.
So when I moved from the Evo to the S3 I took the advice of many to use MyBackup Pro and I don't remember any issues. Decent interface to save the data you need and skip what you don't. Mine's also unrooted and am about to do exactly what you're doing for the same reason - I'm banking HEAVILY on it working well... wish me luck, and good luck to you.
