Man, I never thought I'd use the TV app... - AT&T HTC One (M7)

...but I don't even use my cable remote anymore. It is so damn convenient being able to browse movies and shows on my phone and just tap on what I want to watch. HTC really nailed this function, it works flawlessly for me. The IR blaster is insanely strong, I don't even need to point the phone even remotely at my TV or cable box. It also makes playing with my phone while watching TV perfectly justifiable. Brilliant!
Plus, I get to mess with my friends when I'm at their places... "WHY DOES THE CHANNEL KEEP CHANGING?!?!?" mwahahahahaha :victory:

Lol i did that at bestbuy and there like our guy is in the back playing with the wires and im like ok dumbass

Wish there was a way to change TV providers with each remote setup... I stay at my girlfriends house 1-2 nights a week and I have to change from Directv to Time Warner every time. It only takes a minute but it's still annoying.
Awesome functionality/app otherwise! Use it all the time!

yup! the tv app is fun and useful.

In a few months time I am expecting restaurants and some business establishments to forbid people holding a Galaxy S4, HTC One & Xperia Z in their hands upon entering the premises

I was surprised at how well it works. Better than universal remotes - some of them can't change the input (i.e., hdmi, TV, etc.). Soo good - hard to believe this isn't getting more attention. This one excellent feature is better than the S4's several gimmicky ones.

I haven't tried multiple remote setups yet. So if you make a second remote profile you can't set it as a different provider from the first?

I haven't tried the GS4's but I agree that the One's should be getting more attention. It is a great feature that actually feels fully fleshed out. They really did a bang up job with it. The only thing I would like them to add is custom buttons and programmable macros. Then it would be perfect.

The ir blaster on the one works better. Seems stronger and better placed.

It can control the DVR on my Comcast box so I'm assuming it'll control the DirecTV one just fine. One thing I just noticed though is that there is no option to record directly from the guide in the app (at least I don't think), which is a feature I think HTC could easily implement.

Spy application

Hello XDA community, I wanted to know if there is a spy application out there that will allow me to record for at least an hour. I ask because I suspect my girlfriend is cheating on me and worst of all I think she's doing it in my crib. I tried out both the stock camera and spy phone but neither seems to record more than 20 or 30 minutes. She starts work latter than me and I think she's had another man in my house.

Dam bro. You need to go to your nearest spy shop. Heck buy a digital voice recorder at Super Wally World aka WalMart and leave it recording when you leave. That can record for a couple or more hours. Good luck pal.
Or just go home early if you can?
Isnt there an app for this purpose? I something on current affair where they spy on you thru your own phone.

This is probably what I would do. It's small, it's descrete, and it will record while hidden, unlike a camera. Best of luck!
Wow, that sucks! Have you tried the old fashioned method of talking to her?
And if I recall, some of those digital recorders will sit in "standby mode" and only start recording when it detects sound; you can test is with some moaning (sorry, just had to do it).
Best of luck to you...and, don't do anything stupid; no woman is worth jail time
Dunno if you still need help but just stick a camera on record for a ton of hours and hide it in something. A mate of mine cut a little hole in a Mc Donalds drink and popped his camera in there. Caught his wife messing around.
Something real discrete. That or you could just talk to her..
I hope you get it all sorted out soon though. A regular camera set on record for a long time would work fine. Just make sure to use fresh batteries.
Perhaps your phone isn't what you should be using to fix your issue. It'd probably be better for you to talk it out with her, quietly.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated

You can use "securet livestream" to see your camera from another place. you can put it even in hidden mode. Or if you have a laptop or a PC with a webcam you can use "vitamin D" its a program that records when a specific point in the screen moves like a dog moving, someone crossing the door or things like that.

SlingMobile is awesome

I have used SlingMobile in my last four phones (TouchPro, TouchPro 2, DroidX, Rezound) and the app really kicks major butt in the Rezound using 4g.
I have the newest HD Slingbox and with 4g service the picture is outstanding.
I have two different inputs I can select from, standard cable and an HD cable box. If I use the standard cable input, a viewer at home can be watching a different channel than I am watching but the picture is lower quality.
I even get perfect TV reception while driving down the road in my truck. My Wife watched a movie in HD HBO on demand while we drove on a 3 hour trip last week.

I have never used anywhere near the amount of data that a lot of the posters here use every month.
Last month, I used less than 4 gigs so I would have been fine even on my Wife's 4gig tiered plan.
I don't believe data hogs are what caused tiered data anyway, I attribute it to Verizons greed.

By the way, I have had unlimited data since the first day it was available years ago and I also have the unlimited 4g hot spot so you can KMA with that attitude........

He's using the data on his smartphone with an app he purchased. He's not running a whole home network, which are the people that are abusing the data.
As for the slingbox, I got one last xmas, it died in march, 92 days after I activated it. Contacted sling, they told me they couldn't give me any tech support without either paying 30 bucks up front or adding the extended warranty for 50 bucks. Horrible customer service in my opinion.
I can say, that when it worked, it was great, never had any problems with it. But the fact that it only worked for 3 months is what was bad. If you get it, get the warranty. Just consider it part of the purchase price.
As a side note, with mine (the base model), it took over the dvr, so if someone was watching tv at home, if I changed the channel, they would have it changed as well. Works for me because I work nights.

Something else you can try (I use it for netflix because we dont have tv) is to run an hdmi cable from your comp to your tv and you will be able to watch whatever is running on your comp.
Slingbox has had big problems with defective equipment. It is much easier and cheaper to look up their problems online and and fix it yourself or have a local electronics shop do it for you. There are online instructions to do this. I bought the parts I needed at radio shack and did it myself.

this and their customer service is ATROCIOUS....i dont think they care since Dish or whoever bought them...they wanted 100 bux to fix, after i spent 20 bux on a power adapter that wasnt the problem, and then if it broke after 90 days i was back to 100 again...and this was all 3 days after the warranty i bought expired...seriously...
so i researched and bought a brand new vulkano for 100 bux...works and is simply awesome as sling will not be getting another dollar from me...

External 7" touchscreen driver for Atrix CarPC

Hello everyone. I have gone as far as I can go by myself, and I am looking for a little help to see if together we can get this working.
I have a Lilliput 669GL-70NP/C/T 7" touch screen that I want to try and get working over USB host. So far, all my attempts have been fruitless, but I think that it is possible. The touchscreen utilizes an eGalax driver to work, and I see from their web site here:
http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalaxTouchDriver/linuxDriver.htm
that they have created a linux driver for ARM devices. Based on what I have been able to determine, this means that I should be able to load the driver on android, but this is where I start getting in way over my head.
Does anyone know what I should be trying to get this to work? I also read that ICS has some form of touch input built in... should I be trying this on that? Right now I am running CM7. It seems to me like with a little work we could have external touchscreens for our Atrix!
Oh I forgot to mention, when I plug the touchscreen in, DMSG does register a USB HID input device as "eGalax Inc. USB TouchController"
CM7 also registers the handlers for the touchscreen as mouse1 and event10 when I run "cat /proc/bus/input/devices"
It seems like this is so close right out of the box! I'm trying my best to load the drivers now from terminal... we'll see how that goes.
Hope you get it sorted.

That would be a really sweet way to almost have a padphone. Ever since I unboxed my lapdock I've said that it should have been a tabdock with a touchscreen instead.

Thanks, My idea here is to dump the phone to a mounted 7" screen in my car dash. I want to basically have a touch screen head unit with all the power android offers, and the unlimited data that AT&T is still reluctantly supplying.
As far as the project goes... I just tried on Joker's CM9 built with the exact same results... I was hoping maybe the rumors I had heard about ICS support were true, but not out of the box i suppose. As far as the drivers, I can not get the calibration / driver utility to run so far... and that's as far as I'm going to be able to go tonight.

HDMI works great as is. However, I was looking to be able to provide input back to the phone. Otherwise, the phone still has to be front and center for controlling, which in my opinion kind of defeats the purpose of putting the screen there in the first place.
Basically you want to do like, vnc and pocket cloud, where you control your computer via smartphone but you wanna control the phone instead via touchscreen panel, that sounds like a pain in the ass!

Are you sure that the USB isn't just for passing touchscreen input back to a device? I mean, I know there are such things as USB monitors, but I don't think this is one of them, is what I'm saying -- I'm pretty sure you need to use both HDMI and USB for this to work.
Even if you could load the driver. Which you can. You still need to write some libs and script to get android on the screen. Good luck

Perhaps I need to clarify... The Lilliput 669 has a proprietary HDMI cable that breaks into HDMI and USB. I am not trying to send video and input over USB, just input. The HDMI part works as is. I plan on using both HDMI and USB in the final solution.

Yea me too! I have tried in vain to buy this. $189 AU is a little less than $200, which I would be perfectly ok with for a completely working bluetooth solution. However, I can't buy it. MP3car.com is working with the designer to bring the product to market, but they are still 4-8 weeks out, and there are some concerns that it may not be released at all. The designer's web site lists the product as out of stock.
I have tried to find somewhere else that I could buy it, or at least get schematics to build one, but it has been in vain. By the way, this has been re-branded as "Mimics for Android".
I had been wanting to do the same thing. The other day i just came across something that should be coming out end of the month android quadcore mini development board. so you could say use touch monitor and android OS i see they have bluetooth also so maybe phone could connect bluetooth to the android system in car. there isnt much more info on the board but it looks promising for an incar project its tiny. its called odroid-x http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php
there was some other $100 range android cube thing i saw recently too that might be good. OUYA is name of it maybe XDA will have a section one day for these devices. could make for some good in-car systems much cheaper than indash receivers and more features.
Good luck to ya, keep us posted. I would kill for a solution like this. I would love to be able to implement this, with a fiber optic audio out to a DSP like the Zapco DSP6 or Audison BitOne.1 or the Helix C/P-DSP that is coming to market.

This all sounds good, and I have seen the OUYA... it looks impressive. However this will remove the phone ability if I go this route. I could just check out the android x86 project for that... I believe they already have this screen working actually. I've been trying to follow how they made that work.
I really want to stick with my atrix as the brain so that I retain the 3g connection without another $50 a month or losing unlimited internet.

Good luck, you'll need it.

I just got mine yesterday and so far I like it. I had the original Gear 1 and a Moto 360. I will say that the Moto 360 seemed to work better with Google stuff such as Hangouts, but it was far more limited as a device compared to the Gear S. I loaded the Gear Notification Extender, and now I can reply to both Gmail and Hangouts using the Gear S, very nice!
I do like the option of using something like the Opera Mini Browser to view Gmail and such. And I can't wait to try it out this spring while cycling, it would be nice to leave my phone at home or in the car when riding my bike.
Hope this helps.
its a fantastic piece of kit
to be fair i've struggled with it a bit understanding the settings and permutations but the functionality seems to be improving day by day.
the choice of useful apps isn't massive but that hasn't been a problem for me personally,
I'm not a great fan of the interface on my related S4 smartphone but i can live with that
the liberation of just having the watch (ok with your compatible samsung plugged in or turned on somewhere else) is the main attraction for me
i dont understand the haters especially those deriding the battery life, the appearance (it looks great on your wrist in real life), the concept ( i don't think i need one why would anybody else?) or the need to have a samsung phone to go with it ( I'm not charmed by that either that but Samsung are no worse than others in that regard and there are I guess technical reasons why it has to pair with something short of being a brick on your wrist) at least with the Gear S that pairing can be at a distance or indeed you can just use it as a phone on its own
some people have posted here and on android central that they have returned the watch but most actual users who see the use case for them, have checked out the limitations, have persevered or been patient with some of the glitches and understand why its the best in its class
i see your a "senior member" so apologies for showing granny how to suck eggs - apart from that buy it - or hang on a little longer to see if there really is a Gear S 2 coming soon!

i see your a "senior member" so apologies for showing granny how to suck eggs - apart from that buy it - or hang on a little longer to see if there really is a Gear S 2 coming soon!

I quite often leave my phone at home if popping to shops etc. Has step counter and sleep log. The apps i have downloaded are quite cool but dont use them often.
The two i wrote. Access cctv and view from watch. Control domoticz home automation from watch. Yup lazy can turn lights on and off from bed and couch. The tizen ide for programming is not too bad.
Anyways to sum up i love it

I would get one that can be rooted. Mine may go back because of the lockdown.
What type of lights are you turning on and off? And what brand camera? I didn't see your apps on gear store
Thats because i wrote the apps for myself.
My home lights via domoticz
Accessing a cctv server system to view live images.
Might adapt them for the store at some stage but presently just because i wanted them.

I have the WEMO light switches and wished there was an app for it on my watch. And I have foscam cameras, not necessary for a watch but I thought it would be cool.

No apps maybe, but you can go to the website for your Foscam using the Opera browser on the watch. Cheers!

IR Remote App

Hi all, I'm sure not everyone uses the IR blaster and the quick remote app but here's to those who use it daily.
The LG quick remote app, isn't really that quick - no widget, or quick access from your homescreen, afaik. Other apps I use to find handy was the anymote but somehow, it shows that the LG v20 is unable to learn new codes, which is totally false since the LG app is able to do that.
Does anyone have a better recommendation of the app they use? Feel free to chip in please!

Galaxy remote looks pretty sleek! Fingers crossed it learns code on the v20 too!
I use anymote from the play store. Out of all I've tried, it's the best one so far
I'm definitely one of those who use the IR Blaster daily and it was a major factor in getting the v20, but unfortunately from what I've read LG doesn't follow standard IR protocols so most universal apps claim to not support LG devices. I used to use Smart Remote (which eventually turned into Anymote) and none of my devices work with it so can't use it, and I haven't tried peel yet but I have tried a lot of other different IR apps and the couple that actually worked seemed to be spotty at best. I was really disappointed that I can't use Anymote because I loved the way I had it setup and I've been forced to use quick remote which like the OP said basically sucks, so I'm really hoping someone figures something out or is able to find a universal app that works the way it should with this phone.

No problems with that app using v20
Smart remote- anymote is working on TiX rom. On the stock rom it did not work for me. But on TiX rom it is working. In the other ir remote thread some stated to have alternate controls toggled on. It is on on mine and the remote is working.

Ok thanks for the info I'll definitely give it shot and post my results whenever I get a chance. I was also going to edit my previous post because I came across a decent IR app on the Play store I had never heard of before called "Sure", and I haven't had a chance to see if recording is available or not and if it works or if includes any widgets yet. I can say it does cover a huge amount of devices and all of the ones I've tried so far work exactly like they should, I only had a few minutes to mess with it this afternoon but so far it seems like a pretty decent app.

and i'll be Sure to take a look at that too. Haven't had time to tinker with the app yet. Yeah, anymote needs to have the alternate ir control thing on for it to work.
another thing is the blaster's ranges seems to be intermittent at times, or perhaps just a very narrow direct pointing field. most times it has to be direct for the commands to work.
keep them coming!

I actually went ahead and bought that Galaxy Universal app and I have to say it's the bees knees lol, so I hate to say it but I "Sure" did get rid of it because Galaxy just blows it out of the water and then some. Like you said before though it never hurts to have options though ?

Just from using for 2 days I can already completely agree with you on that! What really blew me away was the ability to create a custom button that you can manually add the hex or decimal ir code to! I've had this hdmi switch that I got a long time ago (and of course it was missing the remote) that I had all but given up on because I could never find it listed as a device on any of the apps I've tried, and when I figured out you could manually enter ir hex codes with Galaxy I looked it up online and found them.. and then Bob's your uncle I can control it with my phone now! I'm sure there are probably other apps that also let you manually add the ir codes, but that along with all of the customization options and being able to add widgets makes Galaxy the best one imo too!

haha, yeah. on that note, i must say the quick bulletin doesn't really serve much use. i miss the old days of my HTC one with the quick feed and integration.
i'm currently trying to figure out how to decode the ir commands since galaxy does not learn the codes or have the codes to my devices. T__T

i've been raking the net for codes for my panasonic wall fan, and this europace casement air-conditioning unit.
hitting a stump there, if only i could figure out how to rip those codes off the different apps.
I like anymote the best been using it since my note 2

Have you tried using the code scan feature that Galaxy has to see if it finds it? I'm kind of in the same boat with an oscillating floor fan that I have in my room, and after 2 days of searching online I finally emailed the Galaxy devs last night to see if they could send me the code. I was surprised because they actually responded pretty quickly and they suggested I try the scan option and see if it finds it (I knew it was there but I completely forgot to try it so as soon as I get home from work I'm going to give it a shot), and they said if that doesn't work then they should be able to find the code I need and send it to me. So I have to say Galaxy Universal was worth every penny and I can't say enough good things about it!
As far as ripping codes off of other apps that would be awesome and yeah I wouldn't even know where to begin. One thing I've been wondering ever since I found out quick remote can record IR codes (meaning that our IR blasters can also receive), is if it would be possible for someone to create an app that could show the IR hex codes of whatever remotes you point at it because that would be forkin awesome. I have no idea what the limitations are though I just figured if quick remote can duplicate an IR code from another remote, you'd think it would at least be possible to create an app that can display the code info instead of just duplicating it. Anyway hope you get it figured out and if I'm able to get mine working I'll post the results.
