[Q] How can I enable AT&T Lumia 920 to select network speed? - Nokia Lumia 920

Since the ##3282 field test menu does not work on AT&T lumia 920 firmware past 1249, I have not updated my phone. Well actually I did, but then flashed back because I wanted the field test menu back more than anything else the update may have improved. I would like to update my phone to future ROM's but am unwilling to give up the ability to switch network speed. Has anyone flashed another ROM past 1249 meant for a different phone and/or carrier and still had full network functionality on AT&T (mainly LTE and internet sharing working) and also been able to access ##3282 field test or select network speed from cellular settings?

Bump
I would like to know this as well if anyone finds a solution to disable Lte on the latest firmware.

Advantage 7501 and Rogers

Can somebody help me set up my device to correctly access the Rogers network in Canada?
I had a Rogers branded motorola phone and had no problem moving my sim over to the Advantage. Able to do phone functions with no problem.
Everytime I reboot my device the network settings dialogue complains that it is not set correctly. Of course the built in settings don't work for Rogers and I'm not sure what needs to be done to get it set up and working.
Thanks.
I'm using Rogers in Calgary.
Go Start>Settings>On the "personal" tab tap the Phone icon>Tap the "band" tab>Network type "Auto" and GSM/UTMS band to the third one down "GSM(1900+850....)
Try that and let me know if it works. I always cancel the network wizard when it pops up because it doesn't have Rogers in its data base.

Enabling 2G data connection purposely on the Photon

I feel really stupid for asking this, but here goes. I have a Photon, just got one of the T-Mobile SIM cards, activated it with the $30/month unlimited web+text+100 minutes talk time thing and I'm wondering - for my own purposes, mind you - how to purposely enable only 2G data on the Photon, if at all possible.
Now, at the moment I'm running the stock 2.3.4 ROM, unlocked and rooted so I could install the KDDI radio, and my T-Mobile speeds are consistently in the 5-6 Mbps range which is more than acceptable and I have zero issues with that service at the moment.
Having said that, and again for my own purposes, is there a specific way to get the 3G data connection switched to straight 2G/EDGE mode directly on this thing? I will be moving over to cybik's CM7 ROM here shortly and I can't recall (when I ran it a few days ago) if there's an option in the Mobile networks menu to switch from 2G to 3G. I was able to see the T-Mobile 2G network under the secondary menu as an available network, and I selected it but it still appears to be 3G.
Guess I'll play around with it some more, maybe there's a toggle on Google Play or something, just thought I'd toss the question out since I can't seem to locate such a toggle myself. DOH!!!
Update:
Installed that CM7 from cybik and it does have a menu toggle to directly enable 2G mode, works fine here for me (140-180 Kbps consistent, works great for streaming audio which I listen to frequently, iHeartRadio and a bunch of different police scanners online from RadioReference using Scanner Radio Pro). But I'm still wondering if it's possible to enable that with the stock 2.3.4 ROM directly, if anyone can offer any info, thanks.

It is for the atrix, but should be similar for stock.
Also you are correct CM7 has those settings allowed by default.
Also you can set the mode in the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Under phone information > CDMA Only = 2G ; EvDO only = 3G
Also: be careful editing the settings in the *#*#4636#*#* menu under the stock rom. It did it once and locked my phone on GSM and had to SBF to restore CDMA. Dunno why it did that but I have seen others have the same issue. IIRC i didn't even enable GSM it just happened when I entered the phone information menu.

Tethering works just once!

I’ve figured out a way to get tethering to work once with my Lumia 920 on ATT.
The below process has to be repeated every time so it is not really a solution but may help somebody smarter figure out a solution.
Insert ATT SIM
Enable internet sharing (fails with call ATT message)
Insert Vodfone SIM ( I assume any non active sim will work, this one is from an old blackberry )
Enable internet sharing (fails)
Insert ATT SIM
Enable internet sharing (works!)
Only works once though, when you disable and re-enable it goes back to the call ATT message.
Somebody needs to jailbreak this phone so we can change whatever registry setting is causing this.
I'm able to use tethering on my ATT 920 using the access point app, I just re-added the APN settings and that's it
note: I'm using it on a non ATT network

It is known this works fine on other networks if you manage to unlock the 920.
What people want to do is get tethering working on AT&T. It's basically impossible, though. It quickly loads the APN settings when there is an AT&T SIM, and that includes checking the tethering entitlement. We have no registry access so we can't change this behavior, even with the Access Point app. You could on WP7 devices if you had registry access, the same modification should work if there ever is a way to get registry access on WP8.
I tried AT&T ROM, Rogers ROM, and Euro Dev ROM. All of them checked entitlement and told me to call AT&T. I was able to get the Rogers ROM to tether once on first bootup, probably due to the same quirk that allows it to work the way the OP described. Overall it's not a very feasible solution, especially since opening the SIM slot is a pain on the 920. Tethering is one reason why my 920 has been relegated to being a secondary phone and why I use my GN2. Even though I don't really like Android, it is easily modified to allow tethering whether AT&T is happy about it or not.
Ok I understand.
Sidenote: How did you manage to install a non AT&T ROM? I always get the FFU device id mismatch when trying to put a non AT&T rom on the phone.

NCS will allow you to flash the Rogers pre-portico ROM. You can now flash Rogers and Euro ROMs, not sure about AT&T. From there you use the built in upgrade functionality to get Portico. Once you have portico NCS will let you flash Rogers Portico and Euro Portico ROMs. But I was not able to get back to pre-portico or to AT&T from there. I was flashing a 920 with a defective proximity sensor that I mailed back to AT&T the next day, so it didn't really matter.
LTE connectivity was giving issues with non-AT&T ROM. Rogers ROM took a while to connect to LTE (much longer than AT&T ROM) and the Euro ROM never really seemed to connect to LTE.

[Q] AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 - UNLOCKED - Any benefit of flashing to other ROMs?

I have an AT&T Nokia Lumia 920, unlocked, using on T-Mobile US.
Simply wanted to know if there are any benefits of flashing European, Asian or any other ROMs.
For typical usage, the phone works fine for me. Edge connection sucks sometimes. Things that bother me are:
1)Limited MMS settings. i.e. no option to toggle SMS/MMS delivery confirmation
2)No internet sharing - even though I don't use AT&T
3)AWS band locked
Just looking for thoughts...
off topic, you are getting ability to send/receive MMS. I had to instal Lumia Pusher App and push APN App and after installed, i went to settings APN settings was at the bottom. and once i tapped on it, the T-Mobile APN was there inactive. All i had to do was tap on it and it activated. all works fine and dandy.
back on topic,
I thought you are able to flash to dev rom and that allowed to to the tethering. but would be a pain posibble brick if you were to revert back
check here they talk about it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271450
i might try another day or week because it takes time, being a family man, i cannot afford 4-6 hours of downloads and flashing to test, but sooner or later
good luck

Can't connect to LTE

Hey!
I've had my Honor 5X for about a month and I haven't yet been able to connect to my carrier's LTE Network.
I know the bands match and my phone even shows my carrier's LTE network when I turn off automatic network selection, but I can't seem to connect to it. It defaults to 3G and the highest I've gotten is HSPA+. I've tried different carriers as well but it doesn't connect to ANY 4G network.
I have 4G enabled in the settings. There's no way to force LTE as Huawei has disabled the hidden network selection menu.
Any ideas?

There is a way to edit build.prop to force it to choose but I read it somewhere and now can not find it. May be someone can explain how to do it.
editing build.prop may help
search for this line in build.prop
ro.telephony.default_network=9
change it from 9 to 10
disclaimer: always do a backup before proceeding , and do not blame me if you did something wrong of if something wrong happens..
Reset APN.
I can't edit the build.prop file because I'm not rooted. Once I do root, I'll probably install CM13 so that won't be an issue.
What I wanted to know is why this is happening. It should connect to LTE whenever it's available without me having to force it.
Anyone else having this issue?
