[Q] Help with unbricking LGE720 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks,
its bricked due to FOTA (I think it stands for: firmware over the air) update. This means the phone downloads a firmware update without computer connection or further PC-Software. Alas it didn't work.
Situation:
Phone starts, displays LG Logo and after that an 'updating firmware' screen for about 1 sec before rebooting and doing it all over again.
What I tried to solve this:
set up a new Win 7 32 bit machine to try to unbrick it. (drivers didn't work correctly on 64 bit) at least the MCCI driver update didn't)
connected the phone with the PC in Emergency Mode (holding VOL_UP + VOL_DOWN + PWR while USB is connected)
downloaded B2CApp (LGSupport Tool) and installed the device drivers for Emergency mode.
disabled the Android(Modem) dirver
downloaded V10D_00.kdz from LG home page
using the phones IMEI and this link:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=IMEI_NUMBER_GOES_HERE
This gave me this link
http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/swdata/WDLSW/LGE720/ADEUBK/V10d_00/V10D_00.kdz
I'm German so this seems all right, but I'm no expert
installed msxml
ran KDZ_FW_UPD_EN and tried CDMA in CS_EMERGENCY Mode
A bunch of magic happend until the phone restarts during the process and is right back where we started, if I put it back to Emergency Mode while KDZ_FW_UPD_EN is still running the process finishes, but to no avail.
The log of this try is attached.
Where I am stuck now:
phone:
runs in Emergency Mode
is recognized by KDZ_FW_UPD_EN as well es LG Support Tool
Flashing via KDZ_FW_UPD_EN finishes
Flashing yields no result.
What else did I try
download V10C_00.kdz, as well as V10A_00.kdz from LG site and tried those with same result as with V10D_00.kdz
tried 3GQCT Type instead of CDMA
Wild guesses by me:
I need a different KDZ_FW_UPD_EN version, maybe different dll. I got it from here somewhre in a LG P500 related topic.
I messed up the driver install or need a different driver
LG hates me personally and planted this whole brick specifically to get to me.
The device really is permanently bricked, so I did all I could and there is nothing more to do? That would be sad, I hope I'm wrong here.
Additional Info:
The phone is not rooted and has never before been flashed. It ran with the same stock firmware since it was unwrapped.
The phone was not interrupted by power-loss during FOTA update.
The [read phone information] tool from KDZ_FW_UDP_EN crashes every time, maybe this tells somebody where things go wrong
Any help is appreciated. Ask for more info, if you need it.
Update - What else did I try:
I got the LG Support Tool to flash the Emergency Recovery all by itself runs till 99% --> reboots --> still stuck in same ol' bootloop
reentering Emergency Mode from the bootloop makes the Emergency Recovery finish with 100%, no error, but still bricked.
Regards
gimmeg

Can anyone of u help me ???? My phone is still stuck with Fastboot mode
Basically on a windows machine you download kdz updater and uncompress it as it is a zip file.
Download from here.
This is what I did on an xp laptop.
I had to down load the drivers from the official lg site. when here you enter the code that is on the box the phone came in or under the battery.
Chose the your county and laguage from the drop down box at the top right of the dialogue box. Then from the middle you can choose the drivers. For some reason I had to find the files and click on them to install the driver.
Ok once you decompress kdz updater there are three seperate files to work with. 1. windows enabler. 2. msxml.msi 3.KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
You will also need to download the right file to restore with,You can find it with google.
Please check here the The_ERROR thread wich explains it very well:
[ROMS] Original LG Firmware list.
Install msxml now.
Now you have to boot the phone into rescue mode. On Lg Optimus One turn phone off even if it means taking out the battery.
Press power - volume up - back (this button is next to the home button).
Connect to usb now.Computer found new hardware and installed four drivers.
Then open device manager. Left click my computer - properties - device manager. You need to disable the lg modem driver. Left click on it and disable.
Now launch kdz updater. There will be a drop box on left set to 3gspt or similiar. on the right drop box set to diag. The long box just above the info box with a file at the side lets you browse to find restore file. e.g. V10a.00.kdz.
Double click the button below and let it do it's thing. Took 15min. My phone shut down and came up with an error at the last minute. Anyway I rebooted and all was good.
Everything was the way I left it. Just had to re-root.
My only real problem was getting the kdz installer to see the phone.
After installing the drivers restart pc. If it finishes quickly and just before saying finished it says phone not found try removing all phone related drivers including nokia pc suite and the lg suite and remove and reinstall the drivers.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Finally, Recovered my phone by flashing KDZ through Emergency mode.. No other method worked..

I had the same worries coz my pc did not detect my device at all..
I was trying to get pass the Fastboot mode.. But in the cmd when i tried to erase and re-install recovery it said waiting for device.. Luckily and finally after many tries i could enter emergency mode. Only then the phone got detected but fastboot didnot work there.. The Only way out was to Do the KDZ flash. I flashed the indian GB V20b and did a hard reset now. Flashed recovery and for now have left it with the stock rom..
I wonder now this problem arises due to custom roms.

this problem was cuz didn't perform the steps carefully.
This can called bricking but not fully . As it can be recovered.
Bricking is when your phone is as useless as a brick.

Another help-wanted thread. Bricked (i think) phone

Ok, basically I wanted to downgrade to froyo in order to reflash mikos rom to have data and gsm, i downgraded with KDZ, all went great, but when i tried to boot it just blocked at boot animation i mean it took forever (Well i waited ~10 minutes twice or 3 times) and I said, hm okay i will try to use kdz again maybe it will work, when i tried to use again KDZ to update the rom (still the same rom tho) i got an error and when i reboot the phone it goes directly to emergency mode. If i try to use KDZ updater it says that the phone is not found, if i try to use lg software update agent (i think thats the name of the software) it also can't found the phone.
I installed many lg drivers from many sources but when i installed lg drivers from lg update agent thingy it bugged my pc internet connection(is working now) and now im writting from fedora (linux). If i try here to use trough wine KDZ still no luck, maybe i will try with my 2nd PC with windows xp to do it but i donno if it will work i guess not. (tried earlier, don't ask )
So is there any way that i can bring my phone back to life?
Thanks in advance
later edit: yes i disabled modem driver, also tried with it on, still no luck
later later edit: LG software update see my phone but at "analysis" it says "please disconnect he cable from your cell phone in order and remove and connect the batter. power on your cellphone and press the restart button to resume update" i did that and after i press "the resume button" it loads and say that again...
The error from KDZ:

Remove your battery, push it back in.
Do a hardware reset -> home + volup + power.
Then try KDZing again.
Remember, after KDZing do a hardware reset again after the process is done.
Sometimes reinstalling the USB drivers does the trick.
Also, some users reported that on 'shaking' [yeah it sounds weird but its true] your phone, it gets recognised by the PC.

the s / w upgrade does not pass 50% LG L9

Good evening, I have in my hands a smartphone lg p778g does not pass me the logo to light following a simple copy of the folder whatsapp internal memory to the microsd (it was blocked after you copy and to restart it and did not initiate more ... it stays in the LG logo when turned on and there does not pass.
I tried to hard reset with vol (+ or -) buttons + home + power but rather than get out the menu of recovery I get the doll android slept with a triangle exclamation and there is no way to enter the menu that tightening no buttons.
Then I looking for information online found the utility tool flash, did all the steps as marked, I installed the drivers perfectly, the PC detects me the phone without problems, but always in the middle of the update (put the mobile mode s / w upgrade ) 50% program lg cancel the process by saying that there has been an unknown error and try try again by disconnecting and connecting the mobile, but no way, I give retry to to try again and again it hangs at 50% and I jump the error screen again.
I wonder if there is some other program where you can do the hard reset this phone than by the official LG utility, or by microsd.
The operating system used is Windows 7 64-bit, disable the Windows firewall and antivirus and run as administrator utility tool flash lg 2014, but always the same. I also tried running the utility lg mobile support tool directly to you directly seeking the most updated for lg p778g firmware, but it's the same as using the lg flash tool 2014, the 50% of the upgrade stops and gives me the message error.
A greeting and I hope you can help me, I need the phone !!
We'd need someone with a p778g. The problem may be be caused by the special branding of the phone, or an encrypted bootloader. Or the internal flash got completely cleared, partitions and baseband rom, which means a full brick. Otherwise flashing stock in D/L mode should work, even if anything else fails. But this goes mainly for LGs official tool working online. With the LG Flash Tool 2014 i had also problems.
I think both tools have to ways to perform the unbricking. Either with the phone put in D/L mode by the user (if Fastboot don't work on the PC), or by recognizing the phone (but with a still running system) via ADB, then auto-switching to Fastboot. And you should also be able to attach the phone when it's already in Fastboot mode. The latter methods don't work on both my systems under Win10. When my desktop pc had been upgraded to 8.1, i performed all servicing of the L9 with my netbook, which was still on Seven.
My last unbrick was months ago, and i don' t know what happens at 50%. It's something important, and knowing it may help to understand the nature of the problem(loss of contact between phone and pc before the actual process starts, errors during flashing...).
It could be like this:
-phone seems to get recognized by driver&tool, that is good
-image gets downloaded(only with the official tool)
-image gets temporarily extracted on the pc(both online and offline). I fear that by completing the extraction the 50% mark is reached, and that no actual writes to the phone can be performed.
And LG's stock recovery, which calls itself "service mode" or "s/w mode" can be mistaken for D/L mode. I'm talking about the D/L mode, which is also present with a custom recovery, but theoretically D/L mode, S/W mode and Fastboot could be used for unbricking

If i was you:
1) Enter in bootload mode using LELUS Method
2) Flash a TWRP 3.0.2 recovery
3) In TWRP recovery format all partitions
4) Install a custom rom
5) Enjoy

Lg phone Bricked

To begin with, I was trying to unlock Lg sp200 tribute dynasty phone , I was told that flashing lg k8 plus x210mula firmware will do it. Everything went well during flashing process using chip erase command on lg up software until it didn't.
The phone stuck in lg k8 plus logo, at first I went to download mode but then I tride hard reset way by using recovery method but everything went bad after that. I had been stuck at black screen since then with a message saying [LGE] [Image Recovery] op_image : 0 API Support : 3 and no ability to go back to download mode .
When plugged in, the phone was recognized by the computer for a few seconds beep and then disconnected after the message appears.
I tried lg up, lg flash tool and even plugging without battery using volume up method to get into download mode but no luck.
Now I need a powerful tool to get back to download mode to flash new firmware that I got recently.

Got a queation. Have you plugged your phone into a pc mac or linux machine to see if it registers. It being a qcom device it might show up as hsusb 9008 or qdl mode. If so you might be in the same boat as me. If it is check out QPST or QDL on linux and do some research. Im going to try to use qdl to revive my fortune2.
Worthy to note before attempting any kind of drastic procedure like exchange of firmware do extra research and make sure device hardware is compatible with the firmware you are trying to flash.
Some phones like the LG LMX210 variants called CV1 are pretty much interchangeable running the same hardwares. But there are a couple like my ulma that run mtk. Flashing mtk with qcom or vice-versa cause really bad. Thats not what i did i was just tired and wasnt paying attention to my procedure list and well you know it happens.

bricked lg k8 (lg-k350n) - is there a way to get to fastboot to flash anything?

I was trying to flash lg-k350n with LineageOs and make a whole bunch of idiotic deeds, so currently I'm felling like dying is the best option for me.
1. I've used this tutorial: .getdroidtips.com/install-custom-rom-using-twrp-recovery. It clearly says that this ROM is for Android 8.0 Oreo, while mine is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Nevertheless I've downloaded ROM lineage-15.0-20170913-Unofficial-MT6735-64-bit.zip. For some reason TWRP mentioned here getdroidtips.com/lineage-os-15-lg-k8-8-0-oreo/ did not wok for me but I've googled a bit and found something called TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img which worked (not by fastboot flash TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img since this TWRP appeared to be to big but simply by fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img).
So I just did:i
turn on debugger
turn off oem lock
adb boot bootloader
fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img
Feeling happy that TWRP loaded nicely I had not done any backjup and just wiped system as suggested here: lineageos.org/devices/h990/install. Then I've tried to installl the Android 8..0. ROM with obviously did not work. And I've got left with a TWRP working and then I've put the last needle in my coffin - I've rebooted hoping that some hard reset or recovery will fix things for me.
So now I have a phone which I'm able to put to recovery, but it does not recover anything. The phone just go dead after such a recovery.
I cannot put it into fastboot mode, if I could, I would just run 'fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img' and at least had a chance to google a bit for maybe a vanilla ROM or anything working, which I could've later installer.
I've seen that there is a way to put the phone into download mode when it will download stuff from S/W "LG Bridge", bu I don't have Windows and haven't yet tried in virtualbox.
Is there any way to unbrick the device? Please help an idiot!
Sorry, you have to find a Windows box I'm afraid, LG is only offering Windows software for flashing. But chances are quite good that you are able to revive the telephone that way. I have bricked my phone as well but was able to unbrick it this way:
Go to www.lg.com, choose your language, select download, software and firmware.
Select smartphone, Android smartphones, K-series and your model number. This is only to come to the download site of LG Bridge, I guess it's not really important to choose the precise model!
Download LG Bridge, install and start it.
Let it update itself and the USB drivers and keep the software running.
Switch off the phone, press Volume up and keep holding that button.
Connect the phone with via USB with the PC while still pressing Volume Up. The phone should be recognized by the PC (install USB driver) and by LG Bridge (watch the status line to the left, it should show the phone type and USB)
The phone should automatically switch on and show a download screen (yippee!)
Select the second tab "software update" and then click on "correct update error" in the lower right. It should automatically download the correct firmware from the internet, so this is rather fool proof!
Click through it and this should start the flashing process, at the end the phone will automatically reboot, ask for the PIN, etc.
Unbricked!!!
Above instruction worked for me on a completely demolished phone. Lineage OS, changed FS, root attempted, I almost though that's it, but no, it recovered, thumbs up.
I haven't tried in Virtual Box, so I cannot tell if this is working. But you've got nothing to loose, right, so why not try it?

your phone cannot be trusted loooooop, cannot goto download and fastboot mode...
If you don't manage to enter download mode you have probably indeed bricked the phone. If what I've written above doesn't work for you I know of no other way to resurrect it, sorry.
This is because you cannot burn TWRP to the Flash plus there's no tool available to bootstrap an LG phone with a completely naked or corrupted Flash. There must be something like that, because a freshly manufactured phone has by definition a naked Flash.
With Samsung phones you have Odin and with it it is possible to burn a software to a completely dead phone. So it is almost impossible to hard brick it. With LG unfortunately it is different. Plus this phone is somehow crippled, it has only a very, very limited amount of Flash. So I would recommend to not care for this phone anymore, it's not worth it, and instead get a current one with a decent amount of memory.
