I have read a lot of threads while searching for a way to fully unlock my Titan II as a lot of people are trying to use their unlocked phones on other carriers. I too am one of those people and would like to officially start a bounty thread for the Titan II.
I know that DFT was the one who created it for the legendary HD2 which I am a proud owner of.
I would like to post a $50 bounty via paypal to the one who cracks the Titan II and adds the database for the HTC Connection Setup. I don't know if it can be ported over from the HD2, but it doesn't seem like it wouldn't be possible. Either that or any other way to unlock the apn settings for mms provisioning.
Please join me in my quest to fully unlocking this AMAZING device and proving that we don't need to be tied down by the chains of tyranny due to oversights by manufacturers, providers and software manufactures because WE THE PEOPLE are capable of standing on our own,

Thanks for getting the ball rolling. Some reason I feel like there are a good amount of people out there with HTC titan 2's (myself included), but there's no dev support for it really.
Many have said that it should be quite easy since other than the camera and addition of LTE, it's essentially very similar. But who knows, I'm not a developer,

I understand your frustration; I really, really do but think about this; name me one Windows Phone that has followed the HTC Titan (Eternity) that has been successfully HSPL'd? Answer - None! There will never be another device manufactured like the HD2 and I fail to see the logic behind locking these devices down so tight there is no joy in owning a device which you're at the mercy of the WP Marketplace. All that said, development is dead for Windows Phone 7.x and like it or not while Windows Phone 8.x isn't perfect it is slowly grabbing traction with market share now at 5.6% and as of April has risen faster than Android. I have waffled back and forth as to try and sell my HSPL'd Titans while I can still get some value out of them or wait it out until Windows Phone 9 is released or abandon Windows Phone altogether. I bought my wife the HTC One (M7) and I guess I got lucky because it is one sweet piece of hardware and I bought the developer's edition and to help my wife learn the device I loaded Launcher 8 to give her the same start menu she was familiar with on the Titan. For the moment I'm eyeballing the Lumia 925 if it in fact pans out it's pentaband.
Fully support this bounty, but you're a little too late. It's all about wp8 now. No development is going to be done on a past device os. MMS is solved by the app SwapChat. No one picture texts.. just SC's

I'm not familiar with that app but there is an alternative now for AT&T compatible radios, but you will need Nokia's Network Setup to make the manual edits. We had a solution in the past but discovered using Consumer Cellular gave us MMS but did not give us the ability to use cellular data completely unrestricted. You can uninstall HTC Connection Setup if you opt this route. Carortruck, it is doubtful there will be any further development of the Windows Phone 7.x platform with the exception of an update to 7.9. It is unclear what this update will entail though many who have responded to Microsoft asking for Bluetooth and Skype to run in background. There are quite a number of 3rd party apps that will run APIs of branded apps, my personal favorites are MetroTalk and MetroRadio and of course, Skype.

I have tried to find a way to install nokia's connection setup but am unable to figure out how to spoof the marketplace to let me download it. On my hd2, I also used consumer cellular and know that trick, but the htc connection setup on the titan 2 only has at&t in the database. I was thinking of developer unlock to sideload a registry editor or load an xml file that would have the settings in it, but it seems like there is an easier way.
I have switched back to my gs2 even though I LOVE the way the windows phone feels. It's so stable and smooth, but I am at a crossroads here. I can live without tethering and want not.
As far as api's, I use graffiti radio for my Pandora. I really just want my mms unlocked.
hi i just talked to cotulla, he doesnt have the htc titan 2 he says if we send him one he will work on it he says it should be almost tha same as the titan, so is doable, i can send the device to him i can donate also to make this happen

I want you to open the APN settings inside your settings...and simply add "att.mvno" on the APN line....everything else is blank! Continue to use Consumer Cellular. The downside is these settings will disable mobile data to Bing and Map Search. Registry Editor won't help you here. Being that you have the Titan II it is not possible to install the Nokia Network Setup app which the HTC Connection Setup is not required but HTCCS will work as long as you configure your settings properly.

That's just the problem....there are no other carriers in the database other than at&t! I know consumer cellular works but as stated, it's not in the HTC Connection Setup database

The HTC Titan I (Eternity - PI39100) was the last of any of the Windows Phone 7.x devices to be developer-interop unlocked and even during their development the bootloaders changed making near the end of production many of these devices unable to be unlocked other than subsidy (carrier) unlocked. I'm torn between staying with WP8 and buying the Lumia 1520 or going over to the dark side and buying the HTC One M7 or M8 so I remain with my devices for the time being realizing they're likely to become worthless before I once and for all sell them. I continue to own a HD2 that I stuck a 64 gig card in running NativeSD; we'll never see another device like that one, what a shame.

OK I was a little harsh when I sent this to T-Mobile this morning, bad day, but it does reflect my feeling about T-Mobile’s attitude towards its business customers.
I will of course be flashing my phone with a ROM from this sight but when I visit clients and they comment on my phone I shouldn’t need to tell them that they can only use the phone with all it’s features if they burn the warranty... We are seeing quite a few clients make the transition to Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 so telling them that to open files on their phone they must stick to saving files in 2003 mode and that they will not notice many improvements on their phone using WM5 and Exchange 2007 (only real benefits are administrative) is totally unacceptable and will mean that both T-Mobile and HTC lose out as we will be recommending the i-mate Ultimate range of phones in future (anyone have a good supplier?)
Good morning, I have just been informed by a colleague that whilst I was led to believe that a Windows Mobile 6 update for both my Ameo and Vario 2 were imminent, T-Mobile UK has now decided that it's business customers do not require the advantages offered by this upgrade and that having just invested a not insignificant amount of money in a new phone I will have no choice but to void the warranty in order to get the upgrade that other colleagues in other countries will receive from T-Mobile direct! Might I suggest that if you are unwilling to provide this upgrade you at least extend the warranty to cover the upgrade released by HTC as without this concession I will find it very hard to justify renewing my contract with T-Mobile UK in 18 months when it expires! Nor will I be able to continue recommending T-Mobile to my clients. As a VAR and IT Managed Services provider I often recommend to clients their next phone upgrade to be integrated with their Exchange servers, I am now installing Exchange 2007 which specifically takes advantage of new features added in Windows Mobile 6 not to mention continued compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007. The AMEO is one of your flagship corporate products to treat your customers with such disregard is unacceptable!

Also, they probably thinking you will forget about this soon before the 18 months and you will renew with them again when another device hit market within that time frame.

I am a private customer but use my Ameo for work too - therefore I just wrote them this:
I have just heard that unlike ALL other carriers of the HTC X7500 (the phone from which the Ameo is cloned) , T-Mobile UK is not releasing a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade. Even the manufacturer is doing this which PROVES the device works well with WM6! The american version indeed comes with WM6 as standard. Why is T-mobile UK leaving customers of its FLAGSHIP telecommunications device without the latest software update which allows the latest integration with MS Office and Exchange server? It is outrageous to crippple a device which has only just been launched. Please explain as I am appaulled that you are not going to properly suppport this device. If the upgrade is available (which it is minus the T-mobile branding) then it shoudl be branded and offered to us. It feels like now you have got our money and tied us to a contract you no longer care. I think all of their customers with Athena started complaining (flood the gates with hate mail and e-mails), they probably would reconsider their decision.
Ithink you're taking slighty the wrong tack here.
A few people need to approach t-mob as if they were a Smb and looking to purchase several (say 30) devices that havw a seperate keyboard large scren etc and the ability to link with exchange 2007. Say that the ameo fits the bill perfectly and is available already in the US with WM6 and when would t-mob be offering it, as it would dictate whether said company was going to go with t-mob or o2!

Seems like T-Mobile has no clue what they are talking about. WM6 is a vast improvement in every area over WM5 and the Athena didn't work perfectly under WM5 either. Furthermore, even the new devices coming out...including the iPhone...are no match for the Athena so to say that WM6 will be better or other devices will make better use of the WM6 features is totally ignorant.
I have T-Mobile in the US and haven't run into this problem. They are all willing to work with me. I've always had the latest phones and never had a problem getting support from the US team. I do help them a bit by breaking it down and letting them know that even though the phone is different, the OS is supported so I tell them not to get distracted by the fancy hardware. ;-)

ATHENA is part of the COMPUTER business and I have never seen a computer company refusing a major software update after less then one year for a new model.

You mentioned a possible problem with the case provided. Every fault report or warranty claim would be looked at on its own merits and it would be wrong of me to try and offer you a blanket answer to what is as yet a hypothetical question.
I do understand and appreciate that you are not being awkward as such. Is there anything that makes you say that T-Mobiles customer care regime does not in fact care? I'm sorry if any of your dealings with us have made you feel that way and I assure you that is not our intention.
I'm afraid I'm still not able to give you the answer you'd like. As you say the software will be widely available and as a consumer you can make an informed decision as to whether you wish to use it or not. At this stage we have no plans to support or officially offer it.

In my understanding they changed something .... Now they said.."please use the HTC upgrade". This seems to me a big difference from the first statement..,"don't even try to modify the rom supplied".
Now you have material to make a loud noise all around internet about the lack of update support from T-Mobile. Wrote a petion and ask for signers, not only for AMEO but for all unsupported T-Mob UK devices
Following this thread from the start I can surely say that the initial good impression I had from T-Mobile has been severely tarnished.
I think their blatant lack of support and stupidity are going to be at the cost of business customers. Already I can't sync with my company server (if I had stayed on T-Mobile WM2005, but fortunately now on WM6 ROM from this site).
I for one will be fully supportive of any petition drawn up. If they don't change their tact, come upgrade time it will be byebye T-Mobile.

A few years ago I bought a Tmob contract/phone from P4U. Not a good experience, it was broken out of the box, unusable. P4U refused to take it back despite being within 7 days of purchase, they wouldnt replace it and told me to go to TMob. TMob said it was P4U's problem, when I went back P4U told me it had been TOO LONG and said I should go to Carphone Warehouse as they do Nokia warantee Repairs.
It was 2 months before I had a working phone, I paid £200 to P4U for the phone and was paying monthly during this time, neither of them wanted to help me in any way.
I gave TMob a chance recently thinking maybe they had mended their ways, but to be honest, they are as bad as ever. I will never however buy from P4U again and suggest nobody else does either.

The issue you've posted has nothing to do with T-Mobile, it's all Phones4U. Phones4U are in a position where they don't supply T-Mobile stock handsets. They have their own stocks which they source independantly. Hence why their phones generally aren't branded and are supplied network unlocked.
T-Mobile will support you if the handset is "one of theirs". If it's a "SIM free" model then your support should come from your place of purchase.
Its amazing that a major telco can't be bothered to upgrade people to WM6. I suppose its best for them, as they've got no problems with bricked devices and it encourages upgrades from existing subscribers to new handsets at contract renewal time. When mine does become due (another year or so yet) I shall be cancelling my contract, and asked the reason why, I shall state that by not offering an upgrade we know they have (hence the leaked rom) that I believe them to be a profiteering supplier only interested in encoraging upgrades and not offering the support their customers demand.
I can understand why they don't do it, and on the whole, I like T-Mobile, but the sell and forget attitude smacks of poor customer service. Not that I think any other Telco is any better, but might as well spread my £££ around to whoevers doing the best deal at the time.

I totally agree with you! I believe people just bluffing....just to make us jealous, cause our devices are not able to do what their devices does.....

Proof is in the YouTube videos. Also note the previous posts about s-off devices which are rootable and allow changes to the system files. If I had a s-off device, I'd start by comparing the dialer file size.
I'm still on the fence whether I would use the device as a phone... I guess if I'm paying for a data plan and it includes voice. But I've only got the WiFi version.
If you use a third party process viewer (i.e. Astro File Manager), there is a Phone app using memory. Opening the app takes you to the familiar phone settings tab... Which allows you to configure Internet calling. Maybe more with a CDMA or GSM capable radio.... Which i don't have.

I was able to get my HTC Flyer to work as phone with Google Voice using GrooveIP. GrooveIP is available from the Android Market. Once you install it, it will asks you to enter your Google Voice phone number (you can get one for free when you apply for Google voice). Then connect. That's it. I was able to make US and International calls. I am not sure if they are charging me via my Google Voice account, but I will check. Note, you will need Internet connection (WiFi or Sprint View 4G...I have a HTC Flyer with WiFi only connected via WiFi to my Verizon FIOS wireless router).
I also got Pdanet Tablet (beta) to work with my Sprint EVO 4G phone via Bluetooth tethering. So, I believe my tablet has full-time phone functionality as long as I am connected to my Sprint EVO 4G phone.

IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SIGN UP FOR A TWO YEAR SPRINT PLAN READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH !
If you intend to use this without connecting it to a Sprint Account there are some things you should consider before making this purchase:
1: You will NOT ever be able to update the Profile, Firmware or PRL of this device. This is very bad.
2: The Cellular network radios will always be on. They will create a SIGNIFICANT drain on your battery as they will be in constant scan mode unable to connect. There are ways around this. There is some software available on the Official Android Marketplace called "Network" that can take you to a page where you can modify the radio settings. It is not 100% reliable, and if you read through the comments on that Applications Review page you will see that it is not working for everyone. There are more permanent ways to deal with cell radios if you are willing and able to root your Evo View 4g. That is a complicated process and as of now many of the "fixes" for cell radios are PERMANENT meaning once you disable them , you can never get them back.
3: You are going to get nagged to death. Each time you boot the tablet you will be presented with a Sprint screen that urges you to activate the device. You will not be able to set your own homepage in the default browser, as, until you have activated the phone Sprint spams bloat at you instructing you to contact a Sprint Rep asap. This will happen during use as well, though it seems to happen randomly, and not very often, but it will happen if you do not disable the Radios.
4: Sprint will often interrupt whatever you are doing on the tablet to remind you that you have not activated it yet..........
5: The screen is not as sharp, vivid or responsive as that of the Best Buy Flyer.
This tablet may not "REQUIRE" a Sprint account for "use" but the features and functionality of this tablet are greatly lessened if you do not have a Sprint Account.
If you want to use this as a wifi only device this is a very poor choice of purchase. You are MUCH better off snagging a wifi only Flyer.
Bottom line the View / Flyer are great tablets, but, if you do not plan to sign up for a Sprint account this is NOT the right tablet for you. Sprint has purposefully built in crippling features to those who use it without a Sprint Account.
I am very sorry I purchased this. I really wish I had just gone with another Flyer.
I am pretty ticked off at the merchant too.......... Claiming that this does not "REQUIRE" a Sprint account to use is the same thing as saying that a Honda Civic does not "REQUIRE" headlights to drive.
Think this over very carefully...... The price really isn't that great.......

because this 14th of march my friend who lives in US will come to indonesia, it's $100-$200 cheaper to buy in US than in indonesia, so i have less than 2 weeks to decide on what tablets to buy
in indonesia CDMA have better internet quality compared to GSM, that's why i'm considering view to be my 1st android tablet, since i can't use sprint service, i'll have to inject the tablet with indonesian CDMA provider, will i miss a lot of things like the review above stated? especially #1

Wow, that reviewer doesn't know a thing about the tablet. All of that is completely false. Pretty much everyone around here doesn't use the device on Sprint.
1. The firmware updates come from HTC via the internet. While Sprint has a hand in approving them, they don't actually send them out. I had no problems downloading, installing, and using the OTA Honeycomb update without any Sprint service. You don't need any PRL updates if you're not using it on Sprint.
2. You can easily turn the cellular radios off - it's called airplane mode. You can still use WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS in airplane mode. There are also other simple ways to deactivate them discussed in this thread.
3. When you boot up the tablet from being turned completely off, you get a prompt to activate it, which you can quickly dismiss. There are no other Sprint prompts at any time. There's no "nagging" whatsoever. And you can even get rid of that activation prompt with root or without root.
4. There are never any interruptions to activate the tablet after the first one when booting it up.
5. The screen is exactly the same as the screen on the Flyer.
Now, as far as being able to use it on an Indonesian CDMA provider, that's something I can't authoritatively give an answer on. when i tried to search in google about where to buy, all i got is reviews with no store that sells this product except for amazon, and yes i have no knowledge about international stores
One thing that kept me away from the view was the updates such as possible ICS will have to be pushed by sprint. I would assume just like a phone that the updates are controlled by the carrier and if they want you to have it. This alone makes the flyer a better deal in my opinion. This is am assumption of course. Also with out having a sim slot this becomes very limited on what carriers it can be used on. I know the flyer comes without sim access but the view is locked to sprint. The 32gb model looked very appealing at 250 but the negatives out weigh the positives.

As I mentioned in my post, this isn't true. While Sprint does approve the updates, the updates are actually built and sent out by HTC. This is the case with Android phones as well - the manufacturers build and send out the updates with the carrier's approval. The carrier does not push them out. My View has never been activated on Sprint, and I received the OTA update to Honeycomb shortly after I purchased it. It all works via the internet and has nothing to do with cellular connectivity. You'll still get any and all official updates on the View even if it's never been activated with Sprint.

The lowest I can find for current prices via a quick search is $274.94 on eBay. It's been down as low as $239 brand new a few times over the past three months, so it will probably drop again. But if you're operating in a specific time frame for the purchase, that range seems to be what they're currently going for.

I am guessing you are a little new to Windows Phone right? Rooting is only done on Android devices.
Now to answer your question ...there are three levels of unlocking standards for WP. -I will post a link from the WP thread explaining these level of unlocks entirely when I am not busy.

In order for us to have a custom ROM we must have an unlocked bootloader. -Which is also not currently available for our phones just yet.

Nope! That's a separate sort of unlocking I'm afraid. You might need unlock codes to carrier unlock.

To Dev unlock...for free...you have to be a student, otherwise if not a student you have to pay 99$ to dev unlock your phone.

$99 is not just unlock your phone. You get to publish apps you wrote and unlock up to 5 phones.

Also may I add that $99 is not one-off. It is $99 per year.
The bottom line is if you are not going to publish apps, there is no reason to spend that $99/yr. Dev unlock only gives you ability to side load apps. That's about it.
Too bad, there are several apps that I would like to be able to side-load. But that is not worth $99 annually.

if I buy a Titan II from the US, can i use it in India and flash a current/latest custom ROMs?
From my experience with a Titan 2 there is no way to install a custom ROM or even a Stock ROM, They were only ever released for AT&T and although you can unlock them for use on other carriers you will be stuck with AT&T setings and not be able to use MMS,
At least that was what I found out earlier in the Year when I purchased one from USA,

there is one stock ROM around for the Titan II - I haven't tried it, but there you are - no one has reported back after flashing it to say if it is useful....
If you carrier unlock a Titan II and take it somewhere else it will depend if the carrier you use has the same frequencies as AT&T, and also whether the HTC connections app can help you out. The app is designed to facilitate use of HTC phones on other carriers by trying to set up the connection specs for you. I don't know how effective it is, I'm on AT&T.....

You are correct! Thanks to the HTC Titan II, I made absolutely sure that when I bought another device it was the Titan I, not the Titan II despite it's better camera and LTE. I'm eyeballing one of the Windows Phone 8 models but I'm saying to myself if Microsoft and carriers have perfected making the Titan II bootloader unlockable then what will the future bring. Windows Phone 7 should have been what Windows Phone 8 is and I'm hoping with the formal release of Windows Phone 7.8 in early 2013 there will be more substance to the release than just the customized tile display; I mean for Christ's sake if that is all there is to it then release it to Windows Phone 7 devices. That said, I'm hoping what is released will allow us to run programs like Skype in background.
Is there any way to get around the internet sharing restriction on AT&T? My data plan doesn't allow tethering but my Android phones with custom ROMs don't care. Is there any way around this? My old Samsung WP7 phones which were hackable could be forced to allow it using provxml and registry editing, but those aren't available for the 920.

no. you will have to flash to a non-att rom which is not necessary easy and possibly risk brick your phone.

Has anyone tried this yet then? Maybe the European ROM? I just got the phone yesterday so I have two weeks to return or exchange it if it gets bricked. I'm not going to move to a family share plan and pay $50/month more.
There is a thread here that someone tried to flash a different ROM and got bricked.
Where is this thread? I can't seem to find what the individual did to cause a brick. I would be very interested to know.
Just search it. It is here. He flashed a ROM not for his specific model of 920 (there are 3 different models for L920) and bricked the phone, If you like to flash custom ROMs and hacking phones, Windows Phone is the wrong choice. You should have stuck with Android phones.

I don't care about all that, all I want to do is tether with my phone. The rest is fine the way it is. I just don't want to go to a family share plan because it will be MUCH more expensive than what I'm currently paying.
I hope someone finds an exploit in WP8 that lets us have registry access then I can disable this stupid check. I don't see how this **** is legal.

Yeah if this doesn't come soon then I may have to go back to my Android Galaxy Note as my primary phone. Windows Phone STILL doesn't let me tether or have a good google talk client. Two simple things.
Google doesn't like Mircosoft. As simple as that. So, if Google's service is important to you, you should stay with Android. There is no official Google Maps, Google Voice, Google Talk. On the plus side, there will be new Skype client (totally redesigned) coming soon to WP8.

How is answering your questions being "defensive" and worth calling him a fanboy over? I don't really think google has any interest in porting their applications until the userbase for WP8 grows larger (and AFAIK there's no official app to use google talk on my iPhone either), and for that reason it's better to roll with an android phone if you want to fully utilize google services and pain-free tethering for now.
And since I'm interested in a tethering solution as well, are people with unlocked/non-at&t branded Lumia 800s and 900s able to use internet sharing on at&t?

I'd also like to know if someone has tried to tether with a Rogers Lumia 920. It's also an RM-820 model so its ROM should work on the AT&T L920. I don't see any RM-820 ROMs on NaviFirm, though. Hopefully something gets uploaded before my 14 day return window is up in case it bricks. I'm going to keep my Galaxy Note but sometimes I like to just enable internet sharing very quickly so that I can do something on my laptop without the hassle of moving the SIM to my other phone. Especially now that it requires me to have that stupid paperclip thing to remove the SIM from the phone.

I don't think the chances of this happening within the next 2 weeks are very likely unfortunately, especially if there are no unlock codes for the 6 month exclusivity period. I'm holding off on a purchase entirely until something shows up, it's a feature I use too much and I'm not switching to a tiered/shared data plan.

Shared data plan or 4GB or more tiered data plan qualifies for tethering because your data is capped. Most ppl want this feature through hacking is because they are on unlimited data plan and never will be qualified for tethering.

The 2GB and 3GB data plans don't allow tethering. It's total BS and I am not going to increase my bill because they only want me to use my 2GB plan on my phone.
Family share data plans qualify for tethering so it will turn on. They cost a **** ton more than the old plans if you aren't using tablets or laptops though.
The bottom line is AT&T wants you to pay certain amount monthly before they allow you to tether. The real truth is that AT&T's network is heavily congested, especially on HSPA side. They can't afford everyone jump in with free tethering. I certainly won't pay extra in order to be able tethering. On the other hand, even when I had my phone capable of tethering, I rarely ever use it. So, it is not that a big deal. If you using it heavily, AT&T will catch you sooner or later anyway.
