Official Firmware update gone wrong, help needed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi peeps, updated my wifes S2 with an official samsung update. OTA would not work so i resorted to using Kies (which appeared to run well and completed with a reboot. The phone seemed OK at first but then the gallery/music player kept force closing and the camera would do the same. After a few reboots it continued to decline in stability until it just stopped booting at all. I have tried a hard reset but with no luck ( little android fella shows up then loops back to galaxy splash screen. I can boot into odin mode but i would prefer the Samsung Jelly bean Rom. can anyone tell me if i can flash this from Odin as this appears to be the only way to get it up and running again. Any helps good help Cheers.

U already have the answer mate!
Download the JB firmware you want from sammobile.com.
Get into Download mode.
Flash it via Odin.
Get into recovery.
Do a factory reset and wipe cache too.
Reboot.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I went ahead and tried it through odin and all seemed well until the reboot and then it looped back onto the s2 splash screen again. Seems odd after it seemed Ok. Any ideas What's going wrong? Thanks again.

I did think of that. That's why I asked after suggesting a reset. Guess I will ask first, then suggest next time.

[Q] Official firmware update 4.1.2 for indian variant (INU)

Hi,
I have update my Galaxy SII (GT-I9100) indian variant (INU) to official 4.1.2 update released through kies.
The update happened for only around 20 minutes and JB runs smooth and fast. I am impressed with the update Samsung has released.
But from the day one of JB update, my Galaxy SII needs charging for every 8 hours. It drains fast and I am frustrated now, coz I have to keep on check on the battery which is draining pretty. I am scared of to use this phone, as the battery is not predictable for longing at least for 10hrs. Previous 4.0.4 update used to give me more than 12 - 14 hours even there is use of more than average.
I searched through google, and every says about media process running. But could not find a solution. Can any please help me or direct me to find a solution on how to correct this.
Firmware: XWLSK
Thanks,
Kishore
Almost 1 in 3 people who have updated to JB have this issue.
A new firmware usually takes time to settle, and so will the battery life.
Have u done a factory reset after updating? This usually solves many issues.
There are many tips & tweaks for improving battery life on JB. Search the forum please.

My S2 was bricked last week and I gave it to samsung service and they have changed the motherboard and delivered it to me by updating it to Jelly bean. Previously I was in ICS (Had No problem like these)
Now I have these problems:
1. whirring noise when turning on the camera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toDlY8Txb4M) like this
2. ON every wake up ("SD card unexpectedly removed") Using 32 GB class 4 Sandisk memory card.
3. Battery drains fast ( this will get cleared in another few cycles of charging)
Please help me out...
Checked various place but dint get cleared...
Thanks in advance.
@felixpaul:
Sorry, but please do not create double posts. Your question will be answered soon enough.
I suggest you take it back to the Service Centre as they are obviously responsible for it.

Thanks for the reply. The official firmware was released on April 3, and I updated through kies on April 4.
I learnt that the new updated ROM takes time to settle, but April 4 to till date is sufficient I guess to settle.
As mentioned by you, I dd not do a factory reset. do you want me to do a factory reset. I am not sure how to proceed with factory reset. I will to learn about it. Will the factory reset wipe all data and JB update?
Thank in advance.
Factory reset can be done by entering the Recovery mode. Just choose 'Wipe Data' and 'Wipe Cache Partition' and reboot.
U will not lose JB update, nor lose ur files, photos, videos, songs, downloaded content, documents etc.
But u will lose ur installed apps and their data, call history, contacts, calendar entries, messages, bookmarks, notes etc.
So backup what you can before doing a factory reset.
Also search for battery saving tips on XDA, like switching off Fast dormancy, etc.

Calm down mate, your battery will be normal after couple of days.
Just ignore it and keep fueling it.
Happened with me too.
According to me, the thing is
Jelly Bean creates cache files in its starting phase so i guess it leads to battery drain.
I am not sure though about my theory though.

Thanks a lot buddy. That solved the problem of JB battery drain.
By this factory reset, my phone is looking new and fast with JB smooth response. But only concern is all applications have to be re-installed.
After factory reset, I kept my phone in observation (3 days) and stock ROM to settle down (did not installed any app).
I can see the power management is normal now.
Any clue on how many hours of battery backup using JB stock ROM will give status of battery (in good condition or bad)?
Thanks once again.
Ur welcome!

[Q] Soft Bricked phone?- Solved

So my mum's phone suddenly stopped booting and wouldn't go past the Samsung boot screen, she had never rooted it or done any development to it. We tried everything except the obvious send it off to Samsung as the warranty had expired anyways and we figured it would cost a lot. :crying:
My first thought was to root it and then flash clockworkmod recovery, do a backup then factory reset, so I rooted it and flashed clockwork but when I booted into clockwork, it wasn't mounting any of the files, system, caches and even the sd card, i re-flashed it quite a few times but it just wasn't working.
So my final thought was to just flash a stock rom. So I downloaded one and then flashed it but its still stuck on the samsung boot screen. And finally I realised that none of this would work because usb debugging wasn't on, so this brings me to my question, I don't have access to the actual phone so is there any way I can enable usb debugging in order to fix this soft brick?
If it was just the files I used I've uploaded them below.
I don't think USB Debugging matters here.
Try flashing a stock rom (not 4.0.4) first. Then, if it bootloops, go to stock recovery and do a factory reset.
Hopefully, that should help.

Tell him to reflash via Odin, then boot it up and it should get stuck again, then boot into recover and factory reset, that fixed it for me. Gl :fingers-crossed:
It doesnt even boot up it just says firmware update encountered an error. I dont even know enough to help him bless him he's only 13 and dives into things without thinking first I just wish he'd have waited for me to read up on it first

@DeanWarren
Has he tried to reflashed using odin and it's not only him , I am sometimes the same.
EDIT: maybe there is a problem with the odin he is using or its the actual firmware? Is he using odin 1.85?

A reflash won't hurt.
In fact, its always a good practice to do a factory reset before or after flashing a new ROM/firmware, especially when the android version is different.
U don't need to wipe if you're simply upgrading a ROM (like a new custom rom version).

Check if the firmware ur trying to flash is not corrupted or broken.
Use another version of Odin (v1.85 or v3).
Ensure that Kies is not running in Windows Task Manager.
Some antiviruses may interfere with Odin. You may try disabling it temporarily.
Try using a different USB port also.
Let know if he was able to flash it successfully (I do hope u guys know how to use Odin properly, because if you don't, things could get pretty bad.)

[Q] S2 Rebooting randomly and losing signal!

Hi! I'm having weird problems with my phone. Useally, when I'm having a call or just trying to unlock the lockscreen, phone just shuts down. Also sometimes phone loses signal and even shows that it's charging even if it's not. I'm using Disaster rom 10. My kernel is Dorimanx, because I need stwaks to lower defaut headphone volume.
What could be causing these issues?
Thanks for any help.
Buggy rom could be reason. Backup ur data first.
Wipe cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions first.
If that doesn't work, try a full wipe.
If that doesn't work, re-flash ur rom.

[Q] Google Play keeps crashing on PA 3.15 [SOLVED]

I've got an issue with my i9100 running the latest version of ParanoidAndroid (3.15, on JB 4.2.2). I think this is most likely a question for the Dev forums, but I can't post there yet, so here I go.
I've wiped my phone several times, reinstalled several version of the image, along with several versions of gapps, but whenever when the phone reboots it's missing play, gmail and several others. I've managed to download and install play separately, but whenever I open it, it closes immediately.
Any ideas?
Do not flash several versions of GApps. Only flash the correct version (to kmow which version to use, check the PA thread).

Play doesn't work independently, it's dependent on certain other Google services which gets automatically installed when you flash gapps and the issue with the loss of gapps on reboot you better ask there, must be a bug as 4.2.2 is still far from being perfect.

Thanks for the answers guys. Looks like it was the state of my phone. I wiped it using Odin and a stock 4.1.2 ROM, partitioning when I did so, then tried PA again and it all came back!

[Q] do i have two recovery tools?

Hello,
I have "played" arround with my phone trying different ROM's during a couple of years now.
Now i want to try the Omnirom but kep getting error 7 when i try to flash.
The soluton for this is updating CWM.
The strange thing is that i seem to have two versions of CWM, the standard interface and Phyliz Touch 5. They both seems to be a different version of CWM.
Now i clearly need to clean things, but i am not sure where to start.
What would be the best way to make my phone ready for the Omnirom and get one CWM?
ps. i did some googling but there is so much information out there that i get confused what the right way to go is.
Cheers,
Francis
Huh?? Two recoveries?
How did you do that? Or are you using ROM Manager?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine."

Well sometimes its starts in phyliz touch recovery and sometimes in de normal CWM recovery.

Philz touch is a modified CWM recovery mate. But I still don't understand how you can do that.
