[Q] Galaxy S 2 plugged to 12 Volts DC (maybe inverted +/-) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
A friend of mine has just did something interesting to his Galaxy S2, he cut a microUSB cable, connect it to his car's electricity bypassing the 12 V to 5 V converter (car charger module). And he might also plugged it inverted (GND and VCC swapped).
So he basically supplied 12V DC to his Galaxy S 2
Does anyone here has any experience like this?
What is the verdict? Could it still be repaired? maybe by Samsung service center? or cannibalized for the screen? I don't know how far did the 12 V go into the phone circuitry....
I think the phone is totally death after this kind of experience, isn't it?
Thanks,
Cheers,
Widita

[Q] Microusb Pinout on S3

Can anyone confirm is the pinout of the Galaxy S3 Microusb is the same as the S2.
I would like to make a cable using a 365k resistor to trigger Car Mode, Charge the phone and send Audio out on D- & D+. I know this worked on the S2, I am assuming it will for the S3 as well, but wanted confirmation.
Thanks!
(Heres the S2 cable link I am refering to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395173&page=2)
Not sure about this but I read that the S2 Micro-USB Jig doesn't work with the S3 so this to me would imply something changed and so pinouts 'may' differ.
Hopefully someone else knows the answer for you.

They're the same, the car mode cable I made works when I plug it into the S3

I dunno who told you hhis, but the same jig works across all Samsung Galaxy devices including the S3.
Some manufacturers use ****ty lowcost resistors with a high tolerance factor to which the s3 simply doesnt react but my homemade 301kOhm 1%tolerance jig works bust fine.
Btw one of the pins for the jig to work -the pin 5 - is never used in data cables.
The pinout is the same as alway and is a standarized MicroUsb-B female plug.
Only the MHL (hdmi) link which is also included in the same plug had it's pinout changed from S2

There is no such cable compatible with the P3100. The original Tab had a TV out cable which also had audio. The P3100 has no TV out hardware.
Why can't you plug into audio via the headphone jack?
It seems that secont tabs doesn`t have video out, so only way is 3,5mm-to-RCA adapter
But if p3100 docking station has audio output jack so it must be a way to put audio via main connector... don't you think?
Ok - just bought docking station model EDD-D100BEGSTD which has jack audio output and it works! So P3100 definitely CAN transfer audio via Samsung connector.
Now, anyone have/know/can share Samsung P3100 connector pin scheme?
This docking station isn't only for the P3100
It is for all Samsung tablet which have the same connector (from galaxy tab 7.0, 8.9, 10.1 to galaxy tab 2-7.0, 2-10.1)
Ok, so i dismembered my dock station - it turned out to be a bunch of plastic, metal and plugs connected via tape. Just took out tape with connectors, wrapped with isolation and got myself audio/charging cable.
But still.... it's pretty thick...
So it is possible to send audio via connector, now I'm waiting for some electronic geeks to make regular cable like the one i used with gp1000

Honestly, do you folks ever read anything or do you just post to hear yourself? I covered this a dozen times already. READ. Just a few post back an dposted the pinouts in one of the other 6 or 7 threads on the same subject. Get a grip. NO video hardware on the P31xx series.

Uhm... how you do that?
What's the pin number for the audio?
And, are you in stock ROM?
What happend if you connect at the same time the audio out from the connector and the audio out from the standard 3,5mm jack?
If out give me this information I can make one...or two...or a lot of this type of connector with double function: charge and audio out
Thank you

[Q] Charger Not Working for Note

I've got 4 different car chargers that *used* to work for my Note. I know they worked, because I did quite a bit of work over the last year which required the use of the GPS on my phone. Each one is > 1A. However, recently they've all stopped working for my Note. I've tested them using a Galaxy S3 and a Desire HD, and the chargers appear to charge the other phones just fine.
I seem to have no problems with AC or the computer charger it however. I've also taken the same USB cable I've used on the AC/computer and plugged it in to 3 of my car chargers, still no luck. Any ideas?
Your charge port needs to be replaced. If you're still under warranty, get it replaced. Otherwise there is a guide around here to DIY replacement I think..
I think we need more info. Since the phone charges at home the first suggestion is not helpful. The port is fine or it wouldn't charge at home. What ROM are you using? Did you try flashing a different ROM to test the charger in car? What were the results?
get a toothpick and make sure the metal in the port isnt touching any metal , then try , these ports in samsung phones are cheap , my wp7 focus had this happen , if it doesnt work ,its easy to solder it back in place , just open it up and make sure the solder is correct!

The day after my post the AC charger stopped working with my phone as well. So after trying a couple more chargers, I took it into AT&T and got it replaced under warranty. However, since my wife and I both have the Galaxy Note, I may have to replace one in the future. Just in case someone needs it..

There's the video for replacing the usb port. Thanks for the help!

[Q] s3 charging issues

Hi I bought s3 5 months back and now im facing the slow charging issues.and at one point the phone wont charge at all.. blowing cleaning also didn't work.. I took it to the service centre. They first replaced the port and it didn't work. Later that day they told its mother board problem. They couldn't explain why. And couldn't tell whether wireless charger would fix this issue. If anyone could help me how to check hardware failure I could check myself and tell me if wireless charger would work nw??
I faced the same problem and the cause was my usb cable
Replace port failed and presuming a service centre would have a decent cable you need a new motherboard .
No way of knowing what has failed without removing the motherboard and testing each component end result you still need a new motherboard .

Yeah its the usb cable, samsung ones are rubbish, mine got to a point where it would charge 1 percent an hour, tried my brothers galaxy ace 2 charger which is all in one and charges from empty to full in about a hour and a half without affecting battery life

You can take the battery out and use the universal charger.

[Q] I9100 charge without usb port

Hi there,
I am looking for a way to charge my i9100 without using the usb port, as it is broken. I do know some phones have external charging pins hidden under the battery cover - my wife's Nexus S has those. Nonetheless I couldn't find them on my Galaxy S II. Anyone had some experience with this? I do know one can buy and replace the usb port together with the whole bottom circuit board, which would probably fix my problem. But I got the phone for free to use before buying a new one and I did not want to put any money into it

Hi namarath,
I have the same problem. The usb flex cable I bought to exchange the broken one was broken itself, which is common. As a solution I bought an external battery charger for just 5 Euro on Aliexpress. Works fine since I have two batteries. The indicator light switches from pink to blue when charged. Be warned that this light is bright like disco lights

Buying a broken replacement USB port/board assembly is NOT common......buying the WRONG version of the board IS common....There are 4 different non interchangeable versions.
See this guide that I wrote for explanations.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335961
But yes, I agree, an external charger and spare battery is a good option....I have done this for both my S2 and S5......

Hi keithross39,
Well, unfortunately in my case everything but loading the battery did work with the new flex cable which indeed had the same version number. So I was one of the few to pick a broken one But thanks for your work in that area!
Cheers
