[Q] How to check email every 5 minutes? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have my email set up (pop3) which works but I have to manually refresh to get the S4 to check for emails.
I do have it sent to autosync every 5 minutes as I assumed this would then check the email every 5 minutes but it doesn't
I have just come over from having an iphone 4s....was easy enough to set up on there but this s4 Im just not used to!
If anyone is able to help I would appreciate it as I need regular email updates for my business and dont really want to have to do it manually all the time.
Thanks

Settings the sync interval to 5 minutes (or in my case, 30) works just fine, you should be having your e-mail checked every 5 minutes.

When i chose the actual account were all the options are it says "Sync Email - Tick - Master Sync has been Disabled"
Set to sync every 5 mins.
When I goto Settings > Accounts > Email - It lists my 2 accounts and says "Sync Disabled"
I am well confused!

Solved, thank you.

Calendar Syncing

Is there anyway to use any calendar related features on the Atrix without it syncing to Google? I've searched the internet for answers, searched the device for settings...and I always get the same result. Under Settings > Accounts > Other Accounts heading > "My Google Gmail account" the tick box next to Sync Calendar is UN-ticked. Yet, no matter what calendar app I use, eventually everything shows up online in Google calendars. So I go back and check the tick box and its still cleared. I put a test event online in Google calendars, and in less than a minute it's on my phone. Is there a setting I'm overlooking here?
thanks
Have you tried Calendar(app)>menu>more>calendars ?

Yes, but If I 'un-sync' it there, the whole calendar disappears from phone. I want to use the calendar on my phone, but not have it sync to Google. There's only 3 options there, but not a 'Visible, not synced' option. Only 'not synced, not visible'. The only way i can stop it from going to Google is turn on Airplane mode, but that's pretty pointless, and it just syncs as soon as I turn it off. It doesn't appear that sync settings under accounts do anything on my phone. This is my first Android device, so maybe that's just how it is?

SGS2 and K-9 Mail

Hi everybody,
I recently downloaded K-9 Mail for my Galaxy S2 and setup all my email accounts, but the problem is that I want this program periodically check my emails.
I've set the "Folder Poll Frequency" for all accounts to "1 Hour", but it doesn't seem to automatically check email.
When, after sometime, I open K-9 Email, I see at the top the statement "Next Poll @ ..." which is always set to a time one hour later than the time I opened K-9; for example, if I open it at 9:32, it says "Next Poll @ 10:32" and I press the Home button and wait for 5 minutes and open it again at 9:37 and it says "Next Poll @ 10:37".
Anybody having the same issue? Is there any workaround?
Thank you...
Menu-more-settings-account settings-fetching email-folder poll frequency- you can try to set it never
Menu-more-settings-global settings-network-backround sync- set it to never
Hope this helps

But I'm wondering how it's supposed to automatically check for email if set everything to "Never" ?
You can switch off background data on your phone. Settings-accounts and sync-background data
On latest darky kk5 everythin workin just fine

I'm not sure if I made myself clear; I actually DO WANT K-9 Mail to DO SYNC my emails in the background and DO NOTIFY me if I have any new email...
Thank you...

Could you do a test (if you haven't done it yet)?
Set the poll freq. to 15 min.
Wait 5 min and check K9 to see if poll time has changed.
Wait 5 min and email yourself something, so we know you will receive a msg.
Wait 5 min and see if K9 fetchs the message.
If it doesn't work, check if manual fetch works (and syncs). If manual fetch doesn't work, check your email settings.
If manual fetch works, do you have any data connection managers that could interfere (such as JuiceDefender)?
In my case I have K9 with two mail accounts and didn't saw any problem fetching (poll freq. @ 15 min)
Hello
Don't want to open another new post for K9-Mail but can you please advise if it works with Exchange 2010?
Thank You

Well, maybe it's different in ICS, but on GB, you open email, hit menu, hit more, hit account settings, hit sync schedule.
Though if you're talking about GMail, and not EMail, you can just turn off auto-sync in your Accounts and Sync settings.
its very simple go to settings> accounts and sync then untick the auto sync option..thats it

Interesting you did not thank me, but thanked the guy who responded an hour after me, and said the exact same thing I did... but I digress.
Did you try going into the email settings as I suggested?

So obviously there are some differences in the email app from Gingerbread to ICS. It's just a matter of navigating the menu to find the options you're looking for.
When you open the email app, and hit menu, do you get a "Settings" or "Account Settings" option? (if so, do you see a "Sync schedule" option inside that?)

That's the sync period. In other words, how far back to retrieve emails. There should also be a sync schedule, to set peak and off peak schedules on how often to sync.

You set it to what you want.
Push = emails retrieved when they are received.
Manual = on demand (when you first open the email app, or click "refresh")
You can also set it to intervals.
Peak/off peak is like day/night settings.
This is the same as GB...

It seems on ICS that these settings are not present, either in the main accounts sync settings, or in the stock mail client settings. I think they were there when I set the email account up, but perhaps cannot be changed subsequently?
Am I just missing something, or do I need to use another email client to get this capability?!

on samsung ics roms its email>menu>settings>select your account>email check frequency>set it to never
then it will only check when you open your email manually
Thanks skimminstones. Is it possible to change the number of emails downloaded, or is this missing in the stock app?

not that i can see. It just downloads whatever is waiting. Doesnt download any attachments automatically, youd have to open the email and press download for that.

See posts 10 and 11 in this thread. You can change how far back in terms of date it looks to download emails, but not a specific number of emails.

Mail no longer auto-updating

Been on Nil's Business Sense for months, no probs...
Today, out of the blue, my email no longer is syncing. I have verified it is still set to check every 5 minutes, and it was fine yesterday (and I have not been tinkering for months). Even rebooted, then powered off and did a battery pull when that didn't work...no good.
Mail only refreshes if I go into my mail folder now.
Any ideas?

Uncheck it from sync, recheck it, sync all, then you should be good

I tried this to no avail...did you mean somewhere else?
In mail, I went to:
Settings
Send & Receive
(tried un-checking inbox from sync - could not)
Update Schedule
changed frequency from 5 min to manual
exited to desktop, went back and re-set to 5 min.
Still does nto auto-sync my mail.
If from the desktop I go to settings - accounts and sync, then select my email, I get to the same place as above.
The only thing I have not tried is deleting my email account from Accounts and Sync, because it warned that doing so would delete all mail, contacts, etc.

Aha!
When I went back in that way again, I noticed the slider at the top for "Auto Sync" for everything was set to "off" (weather, mail, etc...)
The master sync switch also resides on one of my screens near my wifi button...must have accidentally turned it off from there.
Thanks!

Issues with GMAIL Syncing

Hey everyone, new to the DNA (bought last Friday) and I'm totally a fan. The phone is awesome. However I'm having an issue where I'm having to manually go in and sync my Gmail to the phone. It doesn't automatically pull the Gmail down. I've made sure that sync is set to auto and that all the correct boxes are checked.
Currently stock running 4.1.1 (Software Number: 2.04.605.2 71ORD)
Gmail App Version: 4.2.1
Any help would be greatly apprciated.
Thanks,
Brocja01
That's pretty weird I don't have any problems with gmail sync. Do you maybe have an app installed that is controlling sync times ?
Edit: I'm also on stock btw.

I thought maybe it was the sync notification app you install for Nova, so I un-installed it and rebooted. Still not working. I'd hate to have re-install everything.
I think you covered this in your first post but have you actually gone into accounts under the normal android settings and made sure that your Gmail is supposed to sync?
It sounds stupid but it's somehow happened to me a few times where the Gmail sync box was unchecked.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Nope, it is definitely checked. I'm wondering if it is something with my account. My nexus 7 isn't syncing either.
Try going into settings and apps then clear the data for gmail and then open the app back up to let it log you back in.

If you suspect it your account (which is unlikely), check on your computer to see if it syncs.
I'm getting emails on my computer just fine. It is just my two devices that I'm not getting mail on. Factory resetting my phone this morning, will see if does anything.
I've also added my secondary gmail account to the device and that one syncs, if I send an email to both accounts, i get a notification for my secondary account but I don't get one for my primary account. Any thoughts? Would this be something to hit google up on? Is there a number I could call?
Did you try clearing the app data like I suggested? This has happened to me before on different devices and clearing the data always fixed it for me.
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA
Most definitely tried that, also factory reset the phone. Trying turning the auto sync on and off a few times and that didn't help either. It is the craziest thing. Which I could figure it out.
Obvious things to try that I'm sure you kick yourself if you forgot any one of them:
- Under the specific account settings:
- Notifications are indeed checked?
- Gmail sync is on
- Manage labels, Inbox and any other important labels are set correctly?
- Days of mail to sync are set to ~30 days?
I think those are probably an exhaustive list of on-phone options that would preclude syncing.
Yup, went through all those settings. Multiple times.
Did you hit the setting within the GMail app specifically?
I recently went through this because of the Snapdragon Battery Guru app. It shut off my GMail sync and I had a hell of a time finding out how to put it back on.
I had to open the Gmail app itself and go to:
Settings > [your email account] > Notifications (check box)
Settings > [your email account] > Gmail sync is ON
If that's not it, then I don't know what else could be the issue.
I am thinking that during initial setup you said NO to background syncing so just check this ..
Settings -> Accounts .. -> Auto Sync (SHould be ON)

definitely check that! i went a day without emails, and any notification. i thought it was weird, but didn't really pay much mind to it. then i noticed that i'd only get my whatsapp messages when i actually opened the app, i checked for autosync. somehow, it was off. it was working fine all along, and i have no idea how it got turned off. everything has been fine since, though, so definitely double check that
