[Q] My One literally bricked itself... Any suggestions? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

This happened like 5 minutes ago and I'm freaking out. My One is rooted and running CM10 5-22-13 Nightly. I haven't had any issues since updating it last Thursday. I was watching this youtube video <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06xF46tIkmA&feature=youtu.be> on a friends facebook and when the stick figure in the cartoon explodes my One just shuts off. I tried holding down power and volume down. I tried plugging it in to power but to no avail. Anybody have any suggestions? It hasn't been a month since I've had it but I rooted using HTC's dev site. I think this negates my warranty... FML...

Leave it off the charger overnight and try to boot into bootloader again.. If your not getting anything while plugged in then your bricked. Any lights or screen action and you'll be fine.
If your bricked I'd tell them it downloaded an ota update and got stuck half way through and won't turn on anymore. If it won't boot there's no way to tell it was ever rooted and rom'd

Im not very familiar whit htc but if you do get the phone to boot up find the good RUU for your device and you should be good to go..

So if I take it back to the place I bought it they won't go back to HTC's dev site to see if my IMEI was used to turn S-off? Thanks for the advice. I will try it. If it doesn't turn back on I will take it back to Sam's Club where I bought it. They have a pretty decent return policy.

do you get any usb activity when you plug it in to your computer? you know the usb sound? And when you hold just the power button down do the capacitive lights start flashing after a few seconds?

Lol Sams club. I doubt the people there even know what it means to root a phone. But if you had it a month it's probably past their return policy for phones and you will probably have to go to the AT&T repair place. Good luck!

I got it at Sams because it was only $149.99 there. I also doubt they know what rooting is. I will probably use the OTA excuse. And I can still return because I bought my One on May 1st and they have a 30 day return policy. AT&T has a 14 day policy to cancel on your recently signed two year contract. So I still have a few more days... lucky me...

Well since there hasn't been issues of other Ones with CM dying, i'd say you didn't do anything wrong, you didn't brick it. Something failed, probably would've happened if you were bone stock. No need to make up an OTA story, just tell the truth. You were watchin a Video when it died. You should have absolutely no problem exchanging, probably no questions asked.

Update
So I ended up going to an AT&T DSC location. The people there were really nice but not very knowledgable about smartphones. Pretty much just looked at the One, tried turning it on and declared it dead after not being able to turn it back on. They had to back order me another one which they will send priority. They also ordered me a 64gb instead replacing my 32gb haha. I had also dropped my One, my first week, while running because it was too big for my arm band and got a few scratches. AT&T FTW!

[Q] Refurbished without OTA

I was just given a rezound as a replacement for a thunderbolt. I got one with some dead pixels and had another sent out both of which have the most current OS on them which means I can't temp root them. Has anyone recently had a replacement that did not have the OTA on it?
Thanks
I'll find out when I get mine later today...will report back.
I will find out today as well. I think it's just the luck of the draw.
Edit: OTA. But they didn't send me a replacement, this is brand new in the box. Wonder if I should keep all the cables and headphones

How did you manage that? I'll take the stuff if you don't want it
Told them exactly my problem: Since the OTA my phone runs about 114F-120F Degrees for no reason. I did a master reset a few times just to be sure. With nothing running, my phone was cooking.
Even though I didn't mention that my battery life was suffering, I chose to leave this out. I didn't want her to think it was just the battery. I let her figure out that it could be both. She sent me a new phone.
Helps that it's a business phone too
I got my replacement rezound a couple weeks age without the oat update.... but I ran the oat first thing so I could get the latest radio.
Temp root is lame anyway... just unlock it.

Verizon Tech Support giving away Rezounds

a buddy of mine told me that if you currently own a tbolt and call Verizon Wireless complaining about certain issues, they replace it with a Rezound. Has anyone heard anything about this?
If you get your Thunderbolt replaced for valid insurance purposes, they will replace it with a rezound since most, but not all, Verizon stores are out of Thunderbolts.
Some times, though, you won't be offered a rezound. Rather, you may get offered a LG Revolution... which sucks.
There is a post about it here:

You have to push a little if they don't offer it. We got my wife's Charge replaced with a Rezound last night. Took some prodding, they wanted to offer a Stratosphere or Spectrum or Nexus. When we pushed, they offered the Rezound or Bionic as well.

Same here. When I talked to the Rep at Asurion about my phone (sucky data connection) I hinted about the rezoned replacement. He told me that they have plenty of TBs around. Which is fine, I like the TB when it's working, with a good ROM it doesn't really matter what the phone is to me.

I think he's talking about my phone being replaced under the phone insurance program (Asurion). This is my 3rd TB from them so I think it's paid off. It's the first phone I bought insurance on and I'm glad I did. Having to cough up several hundred dollars for a new phone would suck.
Edit: Looks like they are out of refurbs at Asurion. I got a brand spanking new TB yesterday. It works beautifully (for now) I'm going to let it sit stock for a few days to make sure but then Jester's ICS will be on there in no time.

The Rezound. Personal preference, but the big part for me is the SD card. Yes, the Nexus has a slightly larger screen, and is, well, a Nexus device, but overall I just really have liked HTC's devices.

I know this was already answered but I thought I would share my (almost) awesome experience. Went into Big Red last week with my dead bolt. Employee took me through the crap troubleshooting process and set up the replacement order. Come to find out the order was for a GS3. Would have been sad to leave the amazing bolt community but hey, it's a new phone. Anyways, I get the package and low and behold... It's a friggin LG Lucid Went back to Verizon and eventually got another bolt. Just goes to show you never know what these guys will do.

[Q] Anyone bought the DNA in the past few weeks?

I'm interested because superCID and s-off wont work with the new OTA and I will be really, really sad if mine comes with the OTA.
If you get it more recently then it will probably have the update. Most of them that people are getting more recent have it. You would be lucky if it didn't.

I got mine on Monday activated at the store, a few minutes later after the sales rep handed it to me it prompted me to update. Luckily I came to this forum before going to the store. Got home supercid, rooted, then s-offed. I Upgraded from a Tegra 3 One X and I'm loving this beauty
I got one last Saturday and it prompted me for the update a few minutes after activating it. I had to exchange it this past Thursday (screen cracked at corner of top speaker) and the new one prompted me as well.

Yesterday
I got the DNA yesterday. I'm a HTC whore going back to the 8525. Any phones I have tried other than HTC and I alwys seem to fidn reason to ditch them.
The DNA however may change my feelings. Not because of HTC but because of Big red. The limited storage which create the need for cloud service is also another reason. A of now most cloud service is free but as more and more people move to the service free will be long forgotten in the cry of
"To much cost to host so manu people" and then boom, the fee's will start.
Yea, I'm on a rant, and i assume you wanna know about the OTA. Got my dna yesterday, I am coming from a Thunderbolt. My phone did not have the ota however every 5min or so a friendly reminder to DL the update keeps popping up.
I did get root (if ya wanna call it that) via HTC dev by using the "other supported device" option in the links. The email was very fast and the token worked. I just now got a stock rom DL and am going to load onto the phone.
If you get your dna in the next few weeks you may be ok but as the supply of phones drops new phones will have the OTA in place. Also keep in mind this applie to insurance as well. IE you drop your phone call INS to get new one.
You may wish to look at other options if you wish fro true freedom in a phone. Soff on this phone is a ways away.

AT&T Repairs

Hello,
I have the purple camera issue on my HTC one and was going to have it repaired at an AT&T Store. Basically my device is S-OFF, unlocked, and running the Google Play Edition RUU. Any one have their phone repaired thats similar to mine. I don't think they'd actually check that stuff, but maybe. Hopefully someone has done this before.
Thanks,

I have AT&T as well but since I purchased my ONE over the phone since it was a phone only deal, I had to get it repaired also over the phone and I had to send back 3 phones(all kept having problems) until I finally got a perfect phone. All the phones I had S-off, and unlocked and rooted and they never said anything about it.

No one checks for S-Off. At least no one I talked to. Most of them don't even know what that is, and it's pretty hidden on the Hboot page unless you are looking for it. However, you should probably relock your devices so you don't have the awesome "this is for development purposes" splash screen when the phone boots up.
I recommend using Guru Bootloader reset, since it will not come up with a "relocked" tag but will just say "locked".

Just flash in recover! I've used it a few times already.
