[TOOL](ROOT)(RECOVERY) i545 all-in-one root + recovery installer Updated 7-8-13 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

BHP090808 PRESENTS
I545 ALL-IN-ONE TOOL ROOT + RECOVERY INSTALLER
**READ READ READ AND READ AGAIN**
DO NOT RUN IF YOU ARE ON NEW ME7 OTA UPDATE!
This tool was created to simplify the rooting and recovery installation on this device. The rooting method used is the same method already posted in this development section. I just put all the resources into a tool and provided easy to follow instructions. The root process is not a one click. You must read instructions in tool window for each step of the rooting process. It is very straightforward and easy to follow, but you must follow the instructions exactly. Once rooting is complete all other steps are one click features including recovery installation.
Make sure you have latest samsung drivers installed. I recommend downloading Samsung Kies, It will automatically download latest drivers for you. Make sure unknown sources is checked and USB Debugging is enabled or the tool will not see your phone. Also make sure you do not have any pw or pattern lock screen enabled. As soon as you start step 1 check your phone screen. You will see a prompt to authorize your computer. Select ALWAYS ALLOW. This is the cause of the majority of errors. Also the usb cable that came with your s4 is recommended. If you are having issues with odin recognizing your phone check drivers and try using a different usb port. If using a desktop I recommend using the rear usb ports. Prep step (#2) removes install-recovery.sh and KNOXAgent.apk from your phone. These have been known to cause unwanted errors.
If when rebooting from recovery you are prompted with a message advising root may have been lost would you like recovery to fix it? I have always chosen NO and had no issues.
I do not offer support on either recovery or any rom you flash after this process. Check their respective threads for any and all information. Links to both recovery threads are included as options in tool.
I've included latest CWM (credit OUDHS & Shabbypenguin) and TWRP (credit Team Win). The rooting method and kernels used were provided by sextape. The step by step root process from open1your1eyes0. The motochopper exploit was created by the legendary djrbliss. Also a big thanks to djrbliss for Loki, without which none of this would be possible. Make sure to find these fine folks and give thanks, money, beer, your first born..... whatever you see fit.
I'd also like to thank niv3d, an21281, CraziiChief and all of my other testers. I'd also like to thank my wife and kids for leaving me alone while I worked on this. Mirrors are ok, just pm me the link to list in the OP.
Hope this makes someones life easier.... Have a nice day!!!!
Instructions:
Download zip file
Unzip on desktop
Connect phone with USB debugging enabled
Click RUN_ME (inside unzipped folder)
Pick option and go!!
Have patience it takes a few for cpu to see phone after reboots and in Odin
dont disconnect phone until process is complete
If stock start with option 1
If already rooted start with option 2 then choose recovery

I tested this utility a few hours ago and it works great! Just make sure to follow the directions and give it time to do every step, very easy!

Complete newb question here, and searching didn't turn up much.. Seeing as there is no Bootloader unlock yet, theoretically you should be able to just revert to stock and unroot and no one would know you were ever rooted/ROMd, right?
If I completely missed a post that explained this, sorry.. I searched and didn't see it.

Yep. Just Odin back to stock and you're done.

Just used this method to root and install recovery on my new S4 and it worked great! thanks for the tool

You sir, are awesome. So easy. Always nerve racking rooting a new phone but this is cake. Took 5 minutes. A caveman could do it! Thank you!

great tool! worked very well! thanks!

Worked like a dream, thanks a lot!

Tool Updated...
CWM is now 1.0.3.5

Thanks. Success! Ive never seen odin in action, that was cool. Thanks for the easy instructions throughout the process. Very easy.

To unlock the Dev Options menu, go to Settings -> About Device and scroll down to the "Build Number." Now, tap on your "Build Number" five times, and you should see a toast notification pop up saying "Developer mode has been enabled." Back out of the About Device menu and you'll see Dev Options back where it belongs, so you can turn on USB Debugging and whatever else you want to.

It was a small thing in the top left corner of the screen, I could only see with the screen off. It looked like glue or a tiny hair under the glass. I was mostly just worried it was going to get worse over time. I didn't even notice it until I was putting a screen protector on (you know how impossible it is to get rid of all that dust). Free replacement through Verizon though because it's a defect.

Can someone please help a noob out?

Now that I have a gs2 I really don't know what to do with android. Can someone please just post 3 to 5 things I should do with my phone to best improve my experience and Instructions on how to do them? That would be rally helpful as I do know my way around phones but I'm completely clueless when it comes to rooting and development
I don't to come off rude, but please search before starting a thread like this.

I was new to Android too with this phone about a month ago.. I would suggest playing around with it first, figuring out how you like your widgets laid out, what your settings for all your apps should be, etc, before you consider rooting/flashing.. Initially the battery may seem weak, but give it time to stabilize (and also your usage will go down once the newness wears out).. Through various posts you will figure out what apps are good, which ones drain your battery, and which ROM fits your need.. I'm on unnamed ROM and love it.. Let me know if I can help with anything in specific!

Check out the terms and acronyms link in my signature, so you have some basic level of understanding the terminology in the posts.
Look for some apps that interest you in the Android Market, just to start getting a feel for all the things your phone can do with applications...
Decide where to start - such as getting apps that need root level permissions (like Titanium Backup), and how to root on your phone. Or do you want to customize how your phone looks? See what you have available on your phone first, see what you like (or what annoys you!) and then how to change it. Basically get some starting goals.
Start looking up applicable posts, such as how to flash a custom ROM using Odin, customizations such as ADW.Launcher, etc. Be prepared for a lot of reading, and following instructions to the letter!
...(?)
Profit!
Seriously though, the phone has a huge amount of potential ... you have to figure out what you want to do. Chances are someone has posted a guide to do it (or someone helpful will reply) -- but it's up to you to decide what you want.
Your best bet is to read...a lot. Start here and here. And if you have questions about things, I suggest asking via IRC. People get pissed when the forum gets cluttered up. Best of luck to you.

Ok. here is the easy way to start your i777 SGS2 adventure
If you plan on flashing a custom rom you will not need to root your phone because all of the custom
roms here in XDA forums are pre-rooted.
Here is the best and easiest way to flash/install a custom rom and backup your original stock rom.
First you need to install the Samsung USB drivers into windows.
(Be sure to use the original Samsung USB cable for trouble-free operation)
Here is the link for the Samsung Unified USB Driver: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13196871580881
After installing the usb driver above restart windows.
Now is a good time to download a custom rom of your choice, there are about 5 or 6 you can choose from.
I would suggest to download the "UnNamed" custom rom which can be found here: update-unnamed-v1.1.0-full.zip
It is currently the best and most reliable full featured custom rom you can find for our i777 phone.
After you have downloaded a custom rom you need to copy it to your phone's internal sdcard.
To copy the rom zipfile to your phone you need to go into the settings of the phone:
settings>applications>development>usb debugging and make sure that the "USB debugging" is disabled.
Connect the usb cable from computer to the phone and open "Computer" from the start menu in windows &
there you will find a "SGH-I777" drive icon.
Open it and you will see 2 icons, PHONE and CARD, copy the custom rom zipfile you downloaded into the
PHONE drive. (you will only see CARD if you have an external micro sdcard in the phone)
Now you need to download these two files below.
SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/QQKN7NJAFT
Odin3_v1.83.exe Windows Executable: http://hotfile.com/get/116095613/4ea...din3_v1.83.exe
Copy both of these files into a new folder on your desktop.
Open Odin3 in your new folder & select the PDA button & select the "SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar" file.
Once this is done press the volume up & volume down buttons at the same time & hold them pressed
until you plug the usb cable from computer to the phone & you see the triangle on the phone's screen
and the "COM:XX" box in Odin3 light up yellow.
Then click the START button in Odin3 to start the kernel flash.
After successfully flashing you will see the blue CWM Recovery menu of options.
Select "Reboot System" from the menu.
After the phone reboots go back to settings and enable the usb debugging & power down the phone.
Now press & hold both volume buttons & press and hold the power button at the same time until you
see the SAMSUNG text on screen then let go of power button first then let go of the volume buttons.
Wait for the blue CWM menu then select "backup/recovery" then select "backup".
The phone will start backing up your stock rom at this point.
Once it gets done backing up your stock rom you can flash the custom rom.
To flash your custom rom select "Wipe data/Factory reset" from the menu.
Then select "Install zip from sdcard" & select the custom rom zipfile which
you have copied to your phone.
Once it gets done flashing & installing select "reboot system".
Using the blue clockworkmod recovery menu:
HOME softkey = selects.
BACK softkey = go back.
Volume Up/Volume Down = scroll up & down.
Now you are ready to use the phone. (at last!!!)

P.S. The reason I made these instructions so detailed is so even a NOOB can understand it!
Remember if a NOOB can understand this then ANYONE can! - (that means you!)
Read, read, and re-read. Everyone was a noob at one time or another. +1 to this site, so much support. Have a problem, do a search first. Chances are you're not the first with the issue.

Only other option would be to use someone else's htcdev account, they also send you the second portion of the instructions to unlock your bootloader via email. You have to use htcdev, if you don't have 1.5 you can use revolutionary but than you wouldn't need this thread

You're one of the lucky few. I've had to swap devices 4 times on this phone and 5 on my OG EVO. It's hit or miss really.
thanks really helped, now I can flash roms on my phone
Yeah I do consider myself lucky with all the stories I hear, I got my 3d third party though from a guy that had it for a while so hopefully it's safe to say I didn't get a dud, but yeah with all the phones I've had, I never once had to do a claim

[Guide] Reodexing your SGS3

This guide is for reodexing your SGS3, such as UltimaROM, Omega, Foxhound, CodecROM, _null, Sotmax and others (I'm just listing off the top off my head).
It's not terribly tough and 100% of the credit belongs to rujelus22 for his amazing work on his AIO tool. This guide is just for deodexing/odexing, but you can use that tool for other things.
Firstly, why would you want to odex your ROM?
Well, this will help you understand more:
http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-tv-2/pro-tip-number-5-why-you-should-odex-and-deodex-xda-tv/
It's very useful and saves on battery life and makes the phone slightly more responsive.
Consider:
When you have downloaded and installed your chosen ROM you should odex it back up for the speed and agility odexing affords you. However you should ONLY do this after you are happy with your setup. I.E., install any mods you wanted and then Odex your phone.
If you want to add mods later, say, perhaps, your developer releases a new mod, or patch for your ROM you will NEED to Deodex the ROM before applying a patch or new mod. This is important. Please do not pester your dev about an error if you have not done this.
In my opinion, it can take maybe 30 minutes to Deodex, apply your mods/patch, and then Reodex using this tool, but the benefits are worth it.
You should also perform these actions AFTER a successful boot. You should flash the ROM. Boot. skip the setup pages and get to the homepage, then do this odexing.
How to do it:
Firstly, head off over to Rujelus22's AIO script thread and download it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955745
Don't forget to click "Thanks"
Make sure you also download these the Android-SDK and the Java Development kit. The SDK is necessary for the Deodexing, I believe, in case you want to do that later:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33268059&postcount=2
After that, extract the AIO script somewhere useful where you can find it again and run the "Start_AIO.bat" file. This will set up some folders in the directory you extracted to and then open the start page
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After this make sure your phone is plugged into you computer and that USB Debugging mode is on in the Developers Options. ALSO, you must have an "Insecure Kernel" such as any custom kernel (Siyah, Perseus, Boeffla) or Wanam/zoot1's repacked stock kernel.
If you do not have an Insecure Kernel head off to Chainfire's adbd Insecure thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
You might considering buying it on Google Play, if you like, but there is a free XDA version.
After you are plugged in, on USB debugging and have an Insecure Kernel, load the AIO script and choose option "22" which reads "Odex the ROM on your phone". You will be given the opportunity to take a nandroid backup at this point.
Sit back and let it do it's thing. It will take about 10 minutes, and it will seem to hang on the clean up bit. Fear not, because it IS doing something. Your phone will automatically reboot when it has finished.
You're done! Once you have done that little bit of setting up... in future it is as easy as opening the script, hitting 22 and sitting back.
Notes/FAQ:
Sometimes it can constantly loop around the first page as though it is doing a first run. To solve this, go into "AIO_FOLDER/tools/Settings/" and create a new .txt file called "firstrun". Make the contents of the file 1. Just "1" and nothing else.
Sometimes it can say that you don't have remount access and the Odex option will not show. Similar to the point above, go into "AIO_FOLDER/tools/Settings/" and make a .txt file called "remount" and place a single 1 in the folder.
Deodexing can take some time. Be patient.
Can any ROM be Odexed this way, such as CyanogenMod, for example?
I think so, yes. As long as the script can find the bootclasspath!

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I've always stuck with Odexed ROMs for all the reasons that Adam discussed in the video, so I'd be very pleased if I could Odex CM. Best of both worlds.

Maybe you should add this to the op?
I still can't select 99->4->2 but now odexing options are available!
Nice tut, I'm a big fan of reodexing since I first tried it,
I'm kind of new to this things and have to questions;
1.- First specifically to UltimaROM, does it have to be odex ?
2.- When it says I should do it after I have the Rom as I want it, it does not interfere with installing apps right?

You do not have to odex if you don't want to, but I personally recommend it.
And installing apps from the Play Store will be 100% fine on an odex'd ROM.
However, ANY mod that changes a system app is likely to interfer. In this case you can deodex, then flash the mod, then reodex (optional).
This is mainly for those that flash, then don't mod. However modding is not impossible and it's worth the extra 10 minutes to do this.
I have installed everything according to the tutorial. But in the cmd window..its written Your Kernel does not support this feature [adb remount]
I am using the perseus Kernel. I insecured the kernel using "adb insecure" from chainfire. I think it was not needed but i did it when nothing was working. It still does not work
any help?

Dang it, I feel like an idiot. I cannot figure out how to setup the variable path from the instructions. Do I need to make a new one in both system and user, or do I edit one that is already there?
What do I name them?
I tried to reodex UltimaRom v11 and had to modify the script too (set remountavlible=yes) in order to see option 22 so you might want to write that in the OP Kryten, it could prevent the question from being asked over and over
Maybe it is specific to some roms ?
I do everything as I should, but after I press any button after it says "Press any key to continue" at the screen with the snake head (Or whatever that is),it will give me an empty command prompt. No menu,no nothing.Any ideas guys? It's really starting to get on my nerves...
How to know if my phone was odexed?
After running script it says:
The phone rebooted, but there is no *odex files in System/App. Strange..
Hey there! Just want to confirm something.. It is said in the OP that we have to "deodex" to flash a new mod or patch. Is a ROM upgrade considered a patch? Do I have to deodex first to flash a new ROM version? Or it is safe to just flash the new ROM version while I'm still odexed and just re-odex after upgrading the ROM?
Thanks!
I have an odex folder on my internal SD card. Folder size is almost 500mb. Can I delete this folder.

I can't seem to make it work.. It is always saying it can't find the Android SDK (look at the attached photo), but I've already installed everything. Java and Android SDK. What could be the problem? Both Java and SDK are installed in C:/

[TOOL/UTILITY][CASUAL][NIGHTLIES][INSTABUILDS] CASUAL- NO You Verizon

Hi guys, I wanted to try this database system, so I'm expanding upon this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
Introduction
CASUAL will guide you through the process.   Put your device into “Developer Mode>USB Debugging”. Click the do it button.  If you experience a problem, PLEASE USE THE PASTEBIN button to post a log.  Just press Ctrl+L then Pastebin and fill out the information.
Overview
You are expected to be STOCK.... Stock anything, but stock.  If you are not stock and have a custom recovery, this will cause you to only be able to flash back to stock using Odin or Heimdall.   Be stock.   You will need to download and execute the CASUAL application below.  Then click the Do It! button.  You need Java.  Do you have Java?.  The exploit was developed by Elite Recognized Developer Ralekdev and packaged by AdamOutler.
note: if it fails, try turning everything off and back on, then run it again before posting for help.
Windows 32/64 Users: CASUAL will put your device into Download Mode. It will automatically flash everything.  If drivers are required, jrloper's CADI (CASUAL Automated Driver installer) will handle it. Make sure you're connected to the internet.
Linux 32/64/raspberry pi Users There may be a permission escalation in order to install heimdall, either way sit back and relax.  CASUAL automates the entire process.
Please run the following in a terminal first:
Code:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk dpkg
Mac Users: Mac works easier than any other system at the time of this  systems.   Please report problems.
Download
CASUALnightly No You Verizon!  Always use the highest revision with the latest date.  To run CASUAL you need Java. Do you have Java?
For nightly builds click here: http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/VZWGalaxyNote2
Help and Troubleshooting
Are you having a problem? First check this post out for remedial troubleshooting. .  If that doesn't fix it, then press CTRL+L,  press the Pastebin button, come back here and press CTRL+V to paste your log.  Don't hit the donate button, that doesn't fix it.  Donate only if you feel it's worth donating to.  Use CTRL+L and then hit Pastebin and paste the log here if you need help.
Jailbreak video for Windows users only!
This video desmonstrates CASUAL used with Odin to flash the Galaxy Note 2 firmware. Thanks to DroidModderX. While the video uses an old version the procedure is mostly the same.
Jailbreak video for LINUX only!
This video demonstrates the one-click CASUAL Linux Unlock method...  at 2AM.. so don't expect me to be cheerful. While the video uses an old version, the procedure is mostly the same.

About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Univeral Android Loader.  CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language.  CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits.  At any time, if a serious problem is detected with any script, the kill-switch will be flipped and you will be brought to a support page (most likely here) so you can download the latest version. Otherwise for minor corrections, new CASUAL scripts can be deployed remotely.
Updates
CASUAL provides updates WAAAAY quicker than Verizon.  As soon as I push an update to the Subversion repo it appears automatically in EVERY casual.  See below for the change log.

I'm also having this problem. Any help Adam?
Edit: This is what you're looking for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
Hi,
I'm currently running Windows 8.1 64 bit and my phone is the Samsung Galaxy Note II android version 4.1.2 stock, model SCH-i605, and baseband version i605vramc3. After downloaded the latest nightly build, the .jar file opened and gave the following error in the application:
There was a problem while excuting the command.
C:\Users\Zack\AppData\Local\Temp\CASUALZack-2013-12-26-17.09.35\adbexe devices
Then it repeated this same error every second or so infinitely until the application was closed. It did this whether the phone was connected, disconnected, in USB debugging mode, in download mode, etc. I have tried everything and I continually get this same error with the "Do It' button greyed out and disabled.
Next I downloaded the previous two builds, and I found that the December 13 build did not get this error and actually found my phone. However, after I clicked "Do It" and confirmed the warning, It rebooted my phone into download mode like it is supposed to. My phone then went into download mode like usual. However, the CASUAL program then said:
looking for download mode devices..........................................................
And kept on looking without ever finding my phone, and every minute or so it came up with a prompt asking why it can't find my device. I also found that my phone would not exit this download mode without doing a battery pull.
Next I retried the entire process with both builds using (a) 3 different USB cords, (b) 3 different computers running windows 8.0 and 7, and (c)every possible USB port on each computer. These options all gave the same exact results.
I have tried everything I can think of but it is not working! Has anyone encountered this problem before or do you have any proposed solutions?
Thanks so much!
Zack
Still can't figure it out.

I keep getting a libusb error -12 at the start and then it ends up failing.
Really need help here. Verizon was trying to force update me and I had to turn it off and go back to my old phone till I can get this done.
Thank you Adam!!
BrickeD?
Hi guys.
I am certain I followed all instructions to the letter, but I have ended up rendering my Note 2 pretty much useless. CAUSAL informed that the device would be started in android but then the next thing my phone displayed was:
"System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help."
Can I restore my device to the previous state?
thanks
Tried the second time around with CASUAL R570 and got error.

UPDATE: Gave up hopes (for now) of rooting SCH-i605 running KitKat. Flashed stock rom and revived the device.

There isn't a root method for ND7 4.4.2. for the i605. Also, the bootloader hasn't been able to be unlocked since MJ9 4.3.
mirror
Hosed my phone... infinite bootloop at sammy logo, couldn't get into recovery had to odin a stock image and start over... Had one hell of a time tracking down the casual jar file.
As of this moment the download link in this thread is bad.
the download link in THIS thread, now points to DevHost but the files are not the ~29MB jar file you expect. It is now a 3.5MB exe file that appears to be "shady as hell". All the other download decoy buttons at Dev-host take you to fake java update downloads and other seriously shady looking corners of the interweb.
Additionally goo.im is on holiday...
As such I have posted this temporary Mirror of the .jar file I had in my archives:
http://tweakedrom.com/Other_Files/Note_2.php
(The jar file MD5 appears to be the same as one the developer posted to Dev-Host.)
Outler, if you want me to take this mirror down just let me know.
Cannot find the download to casual sch-i605. All download links I can find lead to nowhere.

I take it that you mean Lock, my Kit doesn't relock. Are you S-OFF? That is required to Lock your bootloader. What superuser app are you using?

Squabbi has no recovery, lock, Font Theming, device info get, etc.... It also has a GUI, which in reality, is a MINUS. Unless he is just using the gui to launch a bat, then it is a VERY inefficiant and risky way of doing things, that's why I nixed my GUI tools (it bricked my Nexus 5, luckily I saved it).

Hey there Kwongger.
like you said its really incomplete. Which is true... No batch files are used in mine.
" that's why I nixed my GUI tools " Just wondering what's 'nixed'? Is it a typo? Last one, was it my Nexus 5 toolkit that bricked your phone? (I'm really sorry. :'( ). This was posted with no harm or aggression in any way.

not trying to act the role of N00b, but, when you get a chance, can you post either a step by step directions list, or, even a video on how to use this?
I haven't tried it yet, but I assume you just plug your phone into a windows pc, and if you have the proper drivers installed, the program starts up when you click on it..
thanks!

nixed- put an end to; canceled.
Yes. It was your kit that bricked it :/ and then I tried to fix it with a kit I made, which fixed it, and then bricked it.
Tools like that are inefficient. They can't natively run the commands, so the open a sort of "emulated" command prompt to execute them. That is where we run into issues. I think GUI kits are GREAT minus that.
