Hi,
i like to use my HTC Legend as VOIP phone at home via wireless lan only.
So i don't need the telephone functions like UMTS, GSM and so on.
So my question is how can i disable the telephone functions permanently (i don't like to use the airplane mode and i don't like to see the info for missing sim card at the home display).
At the moment i have installed the CyanogenMod. Does anyone know another good Mod or has a good idea to realize that?
Thanks all

I am looking for an app that automatically switches off the cellular radio when wifi is connected and switches it back on when wifi loses connection. I'm not talking about the APN data connection which already does that, I'm talking about the regular cell phone connection.
According to my lack of results searching through the forums, Market, and Google, such an app does not exist yet. Currently the best app I've found to do anything remotely like this is the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi app, which is a manual switch and a slightly cumbersome one at that, not nearly good enough for how often I go in and out of wifi.
The reason I ask for this is because I use Google Voice with SIP and a prepaid plan. I want to use SIP as much as possible to save my prepaid minutes for when I really need them. When wifi and cell are both connected with Sipdroid running and I receive a call, they both ring at the same time. To be sure I don't accidentally use prepaid, I usually reject the call and call back over SIP, which is slightly annoying for both me and the caller.
Might someone be willing to create this app? Or better yet, does it already exist and I just wasn't doing the right searches?
You can turn the phone radio off with code but you need to use non-public apis and probably extra permissions. For anyone interested, have a look at RadioInfo.java (Phone Info when selecting an activity with AnyCut).
I'll add the option to the Airplane Mode Wi-fi Tool.
It was simple, I'm testing it right now, then I'll update it in the market as soon as it works properly.
UPDATE: Done, go download "Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool" (free) from the market if you'd like to stay updated from there, otherwise install it from the attachment here.
It only enables airplane mode if it successfully connects to a Wi-fi network, if it disconnects, connection gets dropped, or wi-fi gets disabled from the settings or widget, the phone goes back to regular radio mode.
Make sure to check the Preferences and enable/disable it according to your preferences. It's disabled as default.
Enjoy!
Perfect! Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool has become one of my top favorite apps with this feature. Thanks!
cant' find it on the market
sorry: I needed to search for the translated name

It is, Market link -- Airplane Mode Wi-fi Tool
Also, you might be interested in this one, Market link - AutoAP
I found the application on the market, however it doesn't behave as expected. I have to manually switch to airplane mode, and then enable wifi.
What I would like is a single switch to enable wifi AND disable the cellular radio.
And then a single switch to switch back to cell radio with wifi off.
I will try autoAP, thanks
How hard is it on the battery if I always leave wi-fi on even when not used?
autoap seems just fine, I just have to disable wifi to automatically enable cell radio
thanks
However I think, from a marketing point of view, you should consider a better name. Auto AP sounds like Automatic Access Point to me.
Yeah, works fine on tablets without internal 3G. This provides a battery saver.
Sometimes I want my Galaxy S2 to connect to my carkit (Nokia 616) using the normal HFP (not using rsap), so my phone doesn't loose its internet connection and I can use Google Maps etc.
However, since the Nokia 616 has no way of disabling rsap, I have to disable rsap on the phone. Does anybody know of a way to disable rsap on the Galaxy S2 so it connects using HFP with my carkit?
Any luck with finding a solution?
I have been trying to find a work around to this since June, can't believe there is no option to disable remote sim mode in either device... We must be the only people in the world struggling with this because there is nothing out there... emailed Samsung got no reply, called Nokia and spoke to the most unhelpful support person i have ever dealt with...
I did read in the Nokia 616 Manual however that in order for remote sim mode to work you need to have an external antenna connected... so i am going to try and disconnect the external antenna in the hope that the 616 recognises that its not connected and disables remote sim mode... its a long shot but im at breaking point...
I'm struggling to believe there is no command line method to disable or remove rsap on a rooted galaxy s, if I could get a lead at least i would look into it myself.
Found a way

Hi, i was just wondering if its possible to turn off the 3G on the HD2. I had an iPhone and a Desire where it was possible so was just wondering if its possible on this?
Many thanks, GS
Sure is: go to Comm Manager>Settings>Phone>(slide to tab)Band>Select Network Type. (choose GSM)
You may have 3G toggle in Comm Manager but dependant on your ROM (can be added)
Also these phone settings can be reached from Phone dailer>Menu>Options
And you may have a phone settings link also in windows Menu>settings>Personal>Phone
These instructions are assuming you are WM6.5-6.5.x ...
Ahh ideal. Thanks for the response.
Is there a way you can completely turn off the data connection? I dont want a permanant connection via 3G or GSM. I just wanna turn it off like you can on most phones. Is this possible?
Thanks, Darryn

As a newbie I am at a loss as to how i can resolve a number of issues i have with my flyer so please be gentle .....
My flyer says.it has
Android 3.2.1
HTC Sense 1.1 for tablet
Software Number 3.55.405.1
Kernel 2.6.35.10 Baseband 20.4801.30.0822u_3822.10.08.07_m Build 3.55.405.1 cl205068 releasekeys Browser WebKit 534.13
What I know.....
1. GPS never works, it is always 'searching' but never finds
2. WiFi works OK
3. Mobile HSDPA says Signal strength -75 dBm 18asu at the moment and I do not have a Wifi connection available so i was expecting all my connections would route through mobile connection (as i enabled 'Always on mobile data') but nothing that requires a connection is working ?!
4. I recently accepted an auto update for the OS and now I do not have the Icon target for the Pen even when i use the Pen tutorial !!
I have read the HTC user guide for the Flyer but it does not even come close to explaining how the connectivity works and all i want to be able to do is maintain a connection thru either wifi or GSM at all times yet is seems that even though i have a working SIM in the device (which has credit and says it is connecting) it never works when i don't have wifi. There is also no 'connection overview' page that i can find that tells me what connections are working on my flyer (GPS,wifi,GSM etc) and what strength signal they have !!!!
All advice, help or pointers gladly accepted at this point for any of the above queries
thnx
I am not sure if there is a solution short of gaining s off or HTC dev unlock or rolling back to gingerbread
Flyer
Thnx for the reply
Is how to do any of that detailed in this forum anywhere plz?
If you want to downgrade there is this

I think either way you will want to gain s off so that you can freely flash roms and hopefully solve your problem. There is risk though.
So if I understand you correctly you have no WiFi and very weak data connection? Has it always been this way?
Flyer
Don't know how to 's off' ? Is that a setting on the Flyer somewhere?
I am sorry I was not specific enough. What I should have said was that the Flyer functions fine on a Wifi connexion as far as i have seen but when there is no Wifi connexion available then i expect it to use the SIM card data connexion (GSM). I had set this option on the flyer under 'Wireless & networks \ Mobile Network Settings
I also do not appear to have anyway to see what connexions are in use for any of the apps or what signal strength is currently available for 'active' connexions
Can you not just go under settings then check wireless and networks? And what was the bit about the pen?
S off is not a setting you just click off, it is the process of unsecuring your bootloader which I do not suggest for you.
Have these problems always been there or are they new? Did you just get the flyer?
Flyer
In the settings that i have it only says 'Turn On' wifi and 'notify when open network is available' but it gives me no idea of the signal strength of any network (wifi or GSM or even GPS)i am connected to so i never know when i am switching betwen wifi or GSM or even which i am using for any app (IE, Weather, SKYPE, etc)
The pen icon was appearing when i first got the flyer but now it does not appear anywhere at any time in any app!! funny thing is it actually works when i use the tutorial up to the point where the tutorial tells you to tap on the pen config icon ... it is not visible !! I think the pen got trashed when i accepted the last update from HTC
GPS never works regardless and i was under the impression that GPS does not need either wifi or GSM to function!!
Yes, i just got the flyer a week ago
This will be a stupid question but you have an active sim in and you are sure it is a 3g model? I would first suggest running the hc ruu for your device which I know you do not know what that means and it may be hard to find
Flyer
Regarding cell network connectivity: If the Flyer was purchased for anyone but your cell carrier, you probably need to manually enter the APN info for your carrier. This is a common mistake by people who buy unlocked phones, etc. from 3rd party sources. Its easily fixed, and much easier than S-Off, RUU, etc. (which won't fix your problem anyway, if its simply caused by missing APN). You can get your carrier's APN info often by just Googling for it, or just call your carrier and ask for it.
You should find the APN info in Settings>Mobile network, or something like that (I have the WiFI-only Flyer, and its also not with me, at the monent).
The missing pen icon is odd. Does the pen do anything if you touch the screen? Make sure the pen still has battery, and try taking the battery out and re-inserting it. Factory reset may also help.
Did not think of the apn angle
I would like to use an old deactivated phone as a wireless camera, not over WiFi, but something like AdHoc(I think).
Where my deactivated (old) phone can broadcast a wifi network that my other phone will be able to connect and view the cam's video.
Something like: Old Phone(No internet/service) makes a WiFi AP that Another Phone can connect to and view the video the Old Phone is streaming.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this or is something like this possible?
I've found tons of IP cams which use an existing wireless network, but I want the old phone to be used as the wireless router.
Thanks!

But does your old phone has 3G or 4G data? If not, then you are not able to access Internet through the phone.

The phone has no service and is a WiFi only device.
I probably should add that it can act as a hotspot. (Evo 4G is the old one)
A constant one way Video "Walkie-talkie" over the old phones hotspot is what I'm looking to do.
Access other Android phone camera using wifi
