[Q] Fake Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with dodgy Android - Install clean ROM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I bought a fake Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in China.
I bought it for the hardware, its the best I can afford.
The phone feels fast and has a beautiful IPS screen and a good camera.
I want to load a trustworthy Android OS on it.
FOUND RECOVERY MODE
So far I've gone into recovery mode by holding Vol Up+PWR+Select.
I was presented with 3 options normal/fast boot/recovery mode.
When I enter recovery mode it looks like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After Selecting recovery mode and pressing volume down I get this menu
At this point I don't know how to do anything because volume up/down just move the selection up/down and the select button just shows/hides the menu. The power button seems to do nothing.
What recovery mode is this? Is it a universal Android recovery mode?

IDENTIFYING MY PHONE'S HARDWARE
Do I need to figure out what CPU, wifi, camera etc my phone uses?
What about hardware compatability?
(Its possible my phone's hardware is different from an Original Samsung Galaxy Note 2)
==============================================
Final questions:
* Do I need to root my phone?
* How can I check if its already rooted?
* How can I backup my phone's current ROM?
* What ROM should I download? (from what I've read CyanogenMod sounds good)
* Do I need to add hardware drivers to the ROM?
Thank you very much.

To be honest you will nor find many roms for that device as those clone devices don't use the same hardware or chips the normal devices do. There are no official CM roms for it or recoveries at the moment. You will most likely have to dig in and make your own or check some China based forums
Wayne Tech Nexus

Thanks, what about the numbers I referenced such as baseband version etc, would it not work to use a ROM with the same baseband version?
Does an Android ROM have to be configured for every single piece of hardware (CPU, modem, camera, screen, etc) or can it auto detect hardware at startup?
Is there any way I can de-compile the ROM on my phone to extract the drivers etc then overwrite the drivers on a new CyanogenMod ROM?

Yes the roms have to built for the hardware. Baseband is just for getting the network connections. You wont be able to extract the drivers as AOSP uses its own open source drivers built for the hardware. I really hate to say it but your pretty much stuck. You may find something on a China based forum but you wont find anything here.

Thanks for your reply.
I've moved my efforts over to

Hey, I got the same phone with exactly the same kernel,build,etc. .I know the camera says 8MP and 1.9MP but the quality seems to less than that.Also, Have you found any method to root it yet? What Apps/tools have you loaded to make it seem more authentic?
Thank You

I got the same phone with exact specs. I'm still searching a method to root it. Real CPU is mtk6575 and mtk droid tool 2.47 is handling some how. But cannot root it. I've tried roottool bin4ry.v31for rooting and choose method 1, tool is first requesting system backup from phone and after succesful completion of this, second stage then request a system restore finishing of restore, 3. stage is reboot after requesting of system reboot phone doesnt come up. The only way for awakening the phone is removing and reinstalling the battery. If you can find a way for proper reboot let me know.

I am actually really new to these type of clones.I v only owned a SG ace duos before.So I'm afraid I can't hlp you much.
I looked up some threads like "How to root every MT65xx device "etc. But I really have'nt tried them much
P.S - At least someone else has this phone .I am so relieved

Do I need to root my phone?
Yes
How can I check if its already rooted?
see if the super user app is installed on the phone and if it's from china most probably it's rooted
How can I backup my phone's current ROM?
Don't know about that the recovery mode should have a backup option
What ROM should I download?
Really you think there will be a rom for a wasteful china crap
Do I need to add hardware drivers to the ROM?
IDK.
Ok Now the important points looks like there is a nice original android pre installed. also mention the hardware in that way I may be able to help you also if there is any name on it like HDC ZOPO or any crap just post it then let's see if I can make/find a rom for it
:highfive:

I've already reset to factory default but no help. Still cannot reboot. Even there is no reboot choice when pressing power button!
Recovery menu can be reached by pressing volume down+power on+menu button at the boot time. But menü is in chinese and I'm lost in these crap.

Nice to meet you guys
Lets help each other and share anything we learn about making this phone secure.
I haven't touched my phone. Its just been collecting dust.
When I first got it I did all these investigations and I tried super1click on it. It didn't work.
I don't really see the point in rooting it.
I would only really feel safe to use the phone if I install a stock android or CyanogenMod on it. That means a whole complicated process of porting the drivers from the existing phone to CyanogenMod.
Its too much hassle for me.
I'm just going to sell the phone.
I'm subscribed to this thread so if you find a way to secure the phone, let me know.

Hey,
The thing is ....I need root desperately My phone is nothing without Titanium backup! I think that maybe we are going to need root for porting cyanogen mod or any thing. Also,The RAM of this phone totally kills me. Games that require lots of memory dont work.
I was thinking of using Ram expander after rooting.
Are we making any progress with this phone yet?
Thanks !

use mtk android tool to root after rooting, use the remove china option to secure the phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160490
use this to port cwm using your boot.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825722

the phone uses mtk6577 and not exynos - it has 512 ram and 8gb internal memory
phone memory shows 12 gb used ( basically the kernel has faked info shown )

[Q] Please help dumping an MTK6575 Phone's ROM

Hi guys I could really do with some help.
I recently purchased 4 Haipai Noble i9220s. 3 of them I have 'upgraded' to the latest firmware found on this thread. However (and luckily), before flashing the last device I noticed that with the firmware from that thread, the SIM functionality is missing - pretty important for a phone! I need then to retrieve the firmware from the one un-flashed phone.
I have tried following the instructions here (I know that's for 65x3 devices, but that's all I could find) to dump the rom but I get stuck. The first file I tried to dump was DSP_BL (assuming, rightly or wrongly, this is the bootloader for the second 'core', ie the one that runs the GSM radio) however the start address is 0x04000 and end address is 0x046023. I make the length, therefore 0x042023. However when putting these figures into the flash tool I get the message "[WARNING] Read back length is adjusted to 512-Bytes alignment" and I am unable to proceed.
I would really appreciate help with this; I need to get the other three devices back into a working state!
Thanks in advance
OK... I managed to find a version of MTK Tools here, which I gather is needed to dump the ROM. I have successfully performed the dump, but when I load the scatter into Flash Tool I get the following error message on both the PRELOADER and the DSP_BL:
BROM ERROR: S_DL_PC_BL_INVALID_GFH_FILE_INFO (5066)
All the other files load fine, but after flashing the dumped firmware to another phone the radio doesn't come back (in fact the phone simply loads up on what appears to be an 'enter your recovery password' screen, but it's in chinese so I can't verify that.
Here's the scatter file, if it's any help...

I just found out that Root & Tools has a button "To prepare blocks for flash tool". Pressing this prepares a flashable firmware which includes the Preloader and DSP_BL. However, reflashing the devices with this firmware does not re-enable the GSM Radio. I noted the following error message when attempting "To prepare blocks for flash tool"
-- preloader_and_dsp: md5 OK; ... it is copied ... cut OK- The signature isn't found! ... File Size Too Small!
-- DSP_BL: md5 OK; ... it is copied ... cut OK
-- MBR: md5 OK; ... it is copied

any ideas, anybody?
You phone is rooted?
I don't know that phone, but you can look in the build.prop. There is a line that specifies the rild module. Look that the file exists. If is there, try using the one from the original rom.
http://www.kandroid.org/online-pdk/guide/telephony.html
Hi thanks for that but it hasn't worked.
I didn't think it would have, As I say, the firmware, including system image is flash-able to the device, so all the correct files appear to be in place in the file system. I'm guessing it must be something to do with those Preloader and BL images which caused errors when backing up. I'm just at a loss as to what I can do to fix the issue :s
Try this steps to enable GSM Radio
Phone must be rooted.
1. Open Es File Explorer.
2. Go to Setting>Root Setting> and tick all.
3. Go to data/nvram/md/ and delete NVRAM folder. You must successful delete NVRAM folder.
4. Then reboot.
5. Open ZOPO_IMEI then write new imei.
6. Shutdown device, insert SIM and turn on device.
7. Done.
If not successful, repeat again but at step number 3 go to data/ and delete nvram folder.

Hi,
I successfully rooted and backed up my mtk 6575 hd7 phone with mtk droid tools. Also I made another stock rom back up with rom dump2. Only you need to do the things that install adb and vcom drivers of the phone to your computer.
MT6575 custpack partition (ALCATEL One Touch 5020A/5020E)
Hi everyone!!!
I got my ALCATEL One Touch 5020A and its cool even powered of a single core cpu only. Like other android device user I'd like to use a custom ROM on it but the problem is SP Flash Tool can't Readback the custpack partition. How could I port a ROM on it if this problem occurs?
Please help me guys.... What Flash Tool version should I use to carry out custpack partition? Or any Tool you know to solve my problem.
Your help will highly appreciated.
Thanks.

[Q] [Help] s4 mini 1:1 Bootloop after root/backup with MTkdroidtools

Hello @all,
First sorry for my bad english. I try explain my Problem as best as i can in english.
2 Days ago i got 2 pcs from this Phone: mixeshop , Mini s4 1:1 106$
I messed around with one of these phones with mtk droid tools for root / Backup. My hand was faster then my brain.. i have bricked the first phone after the question from droid tools to make cwm and i klicked OK by thequestion of write back boot.bin or similar.. So now my phone is in Bootloop. If i start the phone with vol + and powerbutton the phone starts into 3e recovery. I tried wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition but phone is still in bootloop (Samsung startlogo - blackscreen - samsung startlogo - blackscreen ....)
The backup before the bootloop isnt done without errors so i think i can forget do smth with the backup (with many errors)
The 2nd Phone is exact the same phone, same software, same lcd driver and work well (rooted with ADB script)
So what can i do to get the bootloop smartphone working? I´ve tried to make a backup from the working phone and flash this to the bootlooped one but i can´t make a backup because of errors. Maybe i stuck on this becaus i´m newbie. I do not want to be responsible for the fact that my daughter got a destroyed phone by dumb daddy to christmas

problem with Wiko Sunset after flashing kernel

Hi,
I am a new user and I have a problem flashing kernel to my phone;I have a Wiko Sunset Phone:
Hardware : MT6572
Model : SUNSET
Build number : ALPS.KK1.MP6.V1
Build date UTC : 20150316-123627
Android v : 4.4.2
Baseband v: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V36, 2014/03/29 17:48
Kernel v : 3.4.67 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.7 (GCC) ) #1 SMP Mon Mar 16 20:33:28 CST 2015
I have recompiled kernel present in package SUNSET_OpenSource56465.zip with the command: ./mk wiko n k;the kernel is compiled without error but when I flash it, the phone display a white screen and then reboot continuously;I'm using as ramdisk that present in stock firmware
Any idea?
Thank you
Hello Biasi,
Your kernel work with little modification :

}
Let me 10 min to go home, i will explain you what i do.
Bye
PS : it's not very good to build as root but it's not the problem
Biasi,
I found a bug in MTKIMG, i try to repack your kernel and the Sunset reboot continously, so i try to repack my own compiler kernel "kernel_wiko.bin" and Arg...:crying: Sunset reboot continously too.... But i run my own kernel for a while so i'm very confused !
So I remove the MTK header of my kernel and YipHa, Sunset boot is OK , i do the same with your kernel, and hurray, Suset boot OK too !
Here is the detailled procedure :
I dump my ROM with SPFlashTools
I unpack my original boot.img with MTKIMG
Code:
./mtkimg.exe unpack myboot.img
I copy/paste your kernel "kernel_wiko.bin" in to the directory
I remove the first 512 bytes (MTK header)
I repack the boot.img with MTKIMG
Code:
./mtkimg.exe repack boot.img -k kernel_wiko.bin
I reflash only the boot partition with the new boot.img
The Sunset boot well, enjoy !
This mean MTKIMG not handle well a kernel that already got MTK header but handle well a "Linux ARM zImage".
Thanks to point me this problem, i will investigate and correct the MTKIMG immediately.
Could you try to repack your kernel with the zImage directly not the kernel_wiko.bin (zImage is in you OBJ directory of your kernel build tree i dont remember the exact directory name) and let me know if this work.
Hop this help
I have repacked my kernel following your instructions and then flashed it with SP Flash Tool but the phone continue to reboot;can you attach your boot.img with my kernel? so I try it on my phone
Ok i will do now
Here you can find :
Your kernel without MTK header
View attachment biasi_kernel_without_header.zip
Working boot.img packed with your kernel
View attachment biasi_kernel_boot_img.zip
Hop this help
PS1 : Don't forget to click on Thanks button on my post(s)
PS: What mean "mao1" ?
I flashed it but phone continue to reboot with a white screen,very strange.
I'm using SPFlashTool 5.1516 to flash the boot.img
mao1 is a short name of invention that I have assigned to my development server
I use SPFlashTool v5.1516 too.
Did you flash only the BOOTIMG partition or the wall ROM ?
What is the version of your actual ROM ? (Wiko parameters version sucks, enter to phone : *#563412*# to get right version).
My Sunset come with V11 (4.4.2) after i download the offical ROM on Wikomobile site and flash it, i'm now on V17 (4.4.2).
I see uboot difference, preloader, etc... Be sure the rest of your ROM is in V17 accordly to your kernel build
I forgot to update firmware to new version, I did not know that it was necessary for kernel flash thanks a lot and sorry if I wasted your time
now I'm downloading the update and I'll tell you something as soon as I finished
No problem for time, you help me to find a bug in MTKIMG
And dont forget to dump your original ROM (SPFlashTool do it well)
Exemple of the "version suck" on Wiko, this is the same Sunset without modification :
From parameters :
From *#563412*# call
PS: In my country MAO mean "Music assisted by computer" so i think you are a music composer
Ok,
I correct the bug on MTKIMG, now you can repack a kernel and ramdisk with or without MTK header.
Could your try the MTKIMG V0.42 and tell me in the official thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/tools-unpack-repack-boot-img-utility-t3154621) if all work correctly now ?
Thanks in advance
I had the version 15 before the update
now I have update to 17 and I have flashed kernel but continue to reboot with white image :crying:
Did you try the "biasi_kernel_boot_img.zip" from previous post ?
Did you do a wipe cache and wipe data ?
Could you post the scatter file you use ?
I tried to flash "biasi_kernel_boot_img.zip" and to do wipe cache and wipe data but with no success
Your scatter file is strictly identical of my scatter file.
I repack your kernel_wiko.bin with MTKIMG 0.42 and it work well !
Try this :
1 - Reflash the whole official ROM partition V17
2 - Be sure Sunset boot OK
3 - Load the scatter into SpFlashTool
4 - Uncheck ALL except BOOTIMG partition
5 - UNZIP biasi_kernel_boot_img.zip
6 - Click on the file at right of BOOTIMG, offset, etc... and be sure biasi_kernel_boot.img is selected
7 - Click on download
8 - Plug our cable
9 - Wait for transfet
10 - unplug the cable
11 - Check if it's boot
I will do exactly the same procedure now and i tell you the result
---------- Post added at 03:14 ---------- Previous post was at 03:04 ----------
Whole official ROM flashed : Kernel version 3.4.67 [email protected] #1 Wed Apr 22 14:44:08 CST 2015
I will flash the biasi_kernel_boot.img only and let you known...
All is OK !
Sunset boot OK !
I'm going to sleep, it's 3n28 in my country, i'm tired and have no more idea for instance.
Try to unpack your working boot.img and repack it with MTKIMG 0.42, if the boot is ok, replace with your kernel_wiko.bin and repack. This ensure you there is no ID verification/collision or something like that... (Be sure you use V0.42)
I have done the same procedure with no success;now I go to sleep and tomorrow I will continue to debug the problem
thanks for your help
Ok, i will take a look here tomorrow, and i sleep on it
I have formatted the whole flash and then I have flashed the preload.bin,lk.bin and boot.img but the phone continue to reboot
Can you attach your preload.bin (PRELOADER) and lk.bin (UBOOT)?
Hello Biasi,
Here is the uboot and preloader.
View attachment lk.zip
View attachment preloader_wiko.zip
Are you electronic hackers ? Did you have a RS232 to USB converter (3V3) ?
On Sunset, if you unmount you can find TX/RX and TX2/RX2 pin easily available.
You can plug adaptor on TX and see uboot logs in real time and what append during boot.

Im using Odin 3.10.7, would really like some help to restore my phone, its stuck on the verizon logo, Could be a big help if you or anybody could help me out with this
Cool, found firmware a few weeks ago but no clue as to any custom recoveries. Is it like my HTC 10 does the bootloader need to be unlocked? U know, unless there's a safestrap or something? I'm not familiar with Samsung devices I've only messed around with a few S5"s and few note 5's and now this one, thank you!!

i just selected the firmware on AP and put my phone on download mode and connected my phone. when it showed it as connected i pressed start and waited a few minutes for it to finish and thats was it. i've never done this before and since my phone wasnt getting past the screen telling me to use the verizon emergency recovery software after the failed ota update to my phone i decided screw it lets find out. it worked.
to enter Download Mode power phone off then Hold: Volume Down + Home Button +Power Button until the screen changes then press Volume Up To Continue then connect phone
hope it works for u.

I'm new to this myself, all i did was put it in download mode, connect it to pc, start odin and select the firmware on the AP spot and pressed start. then when it finished i went to through the phone activation and then i had my phone back. i was about to chuck it if this hadn't worked.
Need a decryption key. Please post a new link.
Ok, so my buddy has a rooted j1 (SM-J100VPP), and he was trying to find a cracked play store apk and now when he opens up the play store app it says "Error retrieving information from server. [RH-01]" I have no idea what exactly he did to it. But I am the tech guy and it's my job to fix it. I've tried installing different versions of the play store via apks, and nothing seems to work properly. I tried downloading some random app from chromes version of the Google play store, and it said it was downloading and that it installed, but that app is not in his app store. While writing this, I had the thought of possibly uninstalling the play store app, the framework along with Google play services and possibly reinstall everything that way. But does anybody have any pointer here?

I kept getting errors on odin and it turns out it was my keyboard usb slot. After switching cables and using a different slot directly on the computer it worked. FYI for others. (also I checked Nand Erase All)
thank you for the file and info.

Does anyone know or could ppssibllr direct me to it (a link for unlocking the carrier) as Verizon doesn't pick up in my area hardly at all. And I swapped a buddy for the phone. Called to have Verizon do it for me but they literally want 75 bucks for the unlock code. I traded my Xbox360 for the phone as the blu studio 5.5 I have is outdated as a mofo but the dodge Rom they made for that phone is a beast just had no storage and sd app data stays on internal. But anyways somebody big me some good news maybe a Rom or something with the gsm Already unlocked perhaps? I would literally be forever in debt to someone if they managed to help me with this godforsaken phone...my j700t1 (rip) wasn't this difficult and has recoveries for it....any help at all without having to pay a left nut. Thanks fellaz any help be appreciated

same thing, please help
the only rom that i found is this :
MT6580__samsung__SM-N9500__hero2qltechn__7.0__ALPS.L1.MP6.V2.19_HCT6580.WEG.A.L_P55 ( https://www.gsm1x.xyz/2018/07/rom-samsung-sm-n9500-mt6580.html )
but it says "not enough storage". if i remove the userdata thick it flashes but the screen stays gray i'm literally desperate xD
Edit: apparently the gray screen is due to a display driver failure, i need a "ILI9881D-2" compatible rom
Edit2: the phone boots but the screen stays gray. touch works (i hear sound of touches)
i made a thread, please reply https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/galaxy-note-8-clone-problem-t3841461
use the attached scatter file, save the attached preloader_hct6580_weg_a_l.bin and recovery.img to the same folder as your rom folder.
I see no scatter file attached :/
