[Q] New to HTC - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hello, as the title states the One is my first HTC phone, I technically had the HTC One X+, but only for about 12 hours before my son accidentally dropped it down the stairs. Other than that I have had all Samsung phones. I am loving the One and its working great so far, however there are two things that I am trying to change and have had no luck so far. First off I have tried multiple ROMs but I am currently running Android Revolution 10.1 with no mods other than what comes with the ROM. The two issue I am having are
1) The stock status bar transition from the solid grey to transparent, there is a noticeable delay when exiting an application and returning to the home screen where it takes a few seconds for the status bar to change from the solid grey to the transparent of the home/lock screen, also when unlocking the phone the status bar blinks from transparent to grey and then back, I was wondering if there was a way to make this change instant, or at least make it the solid grey all the time. I have done extensive searching in both the AT&T forums and the international ones, the only threads I could find are http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297043 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291078 and I tried them both but with no luck, the first one just makes it black when it would normally be transparent and the second one I couldn't get to do anything. If someone could point me in the right direction here I would greatly appreciate it.
2) Is there any way to add app closing animations to a ROM? It seems with Sense when exiting an application it just closes back to the home screen with no animation at all, and that kind of kills the smoothness of the phone for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

try trickdroid it has a tweaks and themes package. one of the options is to choose animations

I tried that one and flashed the mods package and couldn't find the option anywhere, from what I understand from reading the forum, since v6 and the update to 4.2.2 a lot of the mods are not compatible and have been removed from the mods package until they are.

yes but themes and tweaks have been updated. idk how much has been implemented but i was running 7.0 and it had the animations

The status bar is like that because of the transparency feature, it did it on some of the aosp Roms I used on my old gs2sr. And I would like some good transitions to/from apps. I agree that it makes opening and closing apps seem smoother.

I flashed 7.0 along with the tweaks and themes packages, but my app open/close animations do not change, I have tried all the animations in the installer, but not matter what I choose the animations stay the same.

One way to get a solid notification bar is to install a 3rd party launcher like Nova/Apex/etc. That will make it solid at all times (the lockscreen will remain transparent unless you use something like Widgetlocker or holo locker), plus give you more customization options (like editing icons, text labels, animations, etc.). Seems like that's what you're looking for to answer your concerns.

Yeah that's a great suggestion, I just tried it and not only does it make the status bar solid but also adds animations to the closing of apps. Only issue I can see is none of the third party launchers allow the adding of the stock widgets yet, but I'm sure that will be sorted out in time. Thank you so much!

[Q] notification window quick icons

Hello everyone,
I'm currently running MCCM SE 2.0 (miui customized ROM) with Hastarin 7.5 kernel. I had issues with the original kernels with freezing, so I switched. Now I'm having some more issues, but I'm tired of playing with this build, time for bigger and better (Hopefully more stable too!)
My question is this: MCCM 2.0 has quick links to enable/disable almost everything directly in the notification window (Wifi, APN, airplane, brightnes, etc.). I want a build that has this OR a way to plug this in an existing build. I've looked for apps that do it, but I'd rather have it integrated.
Thanks for your help, guys. This forum is much more helpful than others I've been in!
I'm not sure but the Sense builds should have a widget named energy control or something like that.

Yup, any build you can add a widget too you can add this to a home screen. Add a widget, choose Settings > Data Dashboard or Power Dashboard (on the new desire HD builds). Both of these combined give you almost complete control over the phone and it's functions. I don't think this is limited to the sense builds, I've seen loads of builds have these.
He is asking a different thing from the "power strip" or other widgets. In the MIUI roms you have those shortcuts NOT in the home screens but directly in the notification/status bar.

Yup I realise that but why have to pull down the notifications window when you can have it directly on the homescreen as a widget?

It's because I prefer a clutter-less environment. And considering it's one quick link bar instead of tons of random widgets... I mean it's all a question of taste, really. Many different options for many different people. I have apps on my main page I use frequently (With a few widgets) and the second page is a few more apps... All those shortcuts are practical in that scrolling notification window for me.
If anyone knows which files control the notification display menu, that'd be fine with me... I'll take it from there! I'm just trying to figure that out.
Thanks!
i am looking for exactly this. i know about poer management widget but i think the notification bar in miui builds is just awesome. i don't care about the rest of the skin so much. i would love to find out if there are any alternatives out there, as well.

Need help icons,notification bar

Hey is there anyway to port an aosp notification bar to a sense Rom I can't seem to find it. Also how can I replace the icons so I can use different ones on the Rosie this would be much appreaciated thanks

As to the icons... I don't know if it'll be the same on ICS but here's what I did to pull some ADW icons into Rosie.
Thanks to rileyd5 for instruction to remove text which is how I found out I could change the icons in the same place.
You need Folder Organizer to do it this way.
Then press and hold on your homescreen and select widget.
Select FO Item - Folder Organizer
Choose Apps
Then find the one you want to change the icon of and press on icon.
Then go find the icon you want to change that one to.
Tap on the app and it will be on your desktop. Now you have to replace the one that's already there if there is one.
Unfortunately you have to do one at a time and even if you already have an icon for an app you have to make a new one and replace it, you can't just modify one that's already there.
I'm sure there must be an easier way...

There's a much easier way....visit the Themes section where some great people have painstakingly created icon sets and themes that have a wide variety of looks and functionality.
On the icon replacement there are a ton of apps out there. I suggest desktop visualizer only because there are a million and one icon packs already built for it.
Don't forget UOT Kitchen.

Yeah, I spent HOURS searching through themes one night and the ADW DigitalSoul icons are the ones for me. But I have to have the sense clock I'm using. I did grab desktop visualizer a while ago and never really looked through it... I'll check it out.
Anyway... Don't want to make this thread about me. Well actually I do, but...

It's a fun/good topic to have an open discussion about who uses what and to what benefit it is. I themed as much as I can without tearing apart market apps so that their in app fonts match what I want.

If you don't mind switching ROMs, this is what I did (and I'd suggest this ROM anyway since it's so smooth) in order to get the AOSP notification bar at the top. You can find the thread here where I detailed instructions. Essentially, though, I used Joelz ICS Sense Redefined. I then pushed the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from his Senseless ROM. It works perfectly. I now have a Sense ROM that looks like Senseless. And I did get confirmation from him that it won't break anything since they both use the same framework and System base.

It's a cool launcher but if you disable the persistent search bar, you can't drag anything to the top of the screen.
That blows.
It's alright, but missing a lot of features that Nova and Apex have so I won't be able to use it. I can't get the Sense widgets sized appropriately to where they are not stretched or having elements overlapping despite messing with the row/column settings. Other things like not being able to change the app drawer icon, and so forth are a bother.

U can resize the widgets.
Icon packs for nova/apex can be used as well.
There r some niggling issues with this launcher, however if you want to use sense widgets and not sense launcher then it your only choice.

Tried it. Hated it.
Alignment was off on text and icons on adjacent screen, it kept reverting to default screen setup after arranging it with my setup, saw some screen redraw, and weather widget text and graphics were way out of line.
If these were fixed, i'd maybe try it again.

stock wallpaper vs custom wallpaper on GS4

So the stock wallpaper on the Galaxy S4 goes all the way to the notification panel at the top and makes it transparent which i love. I figured i would try and load a custom wallpaper and it would do the same thing, no go! This is kind of disappointing that the stock wallpapers have dimensions that sideloaded wallpapers dont. Has anyone figured out a way to cover that area so it looks as nice as the stock wallpapers.

This is well known, Samsung has come out and told us you only get the transparent notification bar on their wallpapers. Their reasoning, which makes sense, is that they don't know what kind of picture you would be using, and certain backgrounds would make the navigation bar text unreadable.
The only thing I can think of is if you use Nova Launcher, you can enable "transparent notification bar" somewhere in the menu, that might let you do that with all wallpapers.

You don't need the lock screen with Nova. Lock screen is a different APK. You can still change the two by going into your settings -> My device -> Display -> Wallpaper and then pick Lock Screen or Home Screen.
Here is my issue. I've gotten my luck screen to be transparent v by luck. I tested that luck changed wallpaper and lost transparency. Anyone else run into this

You could replace one of the stock wallpapers. I looked and they are packaged as drawables in the wall paper chooser apk (SecWallpaperChooser.apk). I may try to do it...it is essentially like making a theme.
BTW, the stock wallpapers are 1920x1920...I guess so they work in landscape?

[Q] Trying to attain CyanogenMod/stock look, w/o flashing a ROM

Hello all,
Longtime lurker, first time poster. I've passively used the forums for a long time, browsing tutorials, exploring apps, and increasing my general android and ROM knowledge. And now I have a problem I've so far been unable to solve. I wasn't sure if this should be posted in General, or in Q&A, but I chose the latter.
I'm a fan of HTC's aesthetics, despite their Sense UI (I'm a control-freak, and Sense allows no control). Up until last week I had a Wildfire S, running CyanogenMod 10.1. I now have a Desire X (yay!), only to find the versions of CyanogenMod available for the Desire X are all missing features that I consider deal breakers (no audio, no video, no audio recording, no video recording, no Bluetooth, and mainly no WiFi).
So now I'm trying to recreate that sweet, sweet Cyanogen feeling using readily available applications, which is where I hope y'all can help me.
This is what I've done/got so far:
Prep (from Recovery):
- Rooted the phone (obviously).
- Flashed CWM Recovery (Philz touch 5)
- Flashed SuperSU
- Flashed ROM Cleaner w/ customized NO-Sense_user.txt to remove as much of the Sense UI and HTC bloatware as possible
Flashed from ROM Cleaner, after cleanup:
- Nova Launcher Prime, replaces Rosie
- Stock Google Calendar, replaces HTC Calendar
- Stock Google Keyboard, replaces HTC Sense Input
- Stock KitKat Email, replaces HTC Mail
- Stock KitKat Gallery, replaces HTC Gallery
- 8sms, replaces HTC Messages
Installed from Nova Launcher:
- Chronus Pro, replaces lockscreen clock
- Clock JB+, replaces HTC World Clock
- exDialer PRO, replaces HTC Dialer + People
- WidgetLocker Lockscreen, replaces HTC Lockscreen
- Lotsa other stuff, unrelated to this post
So basically, I have everything that's visible replaced with either the stock, or close to stock application.
BUT, I'm unhappy with, and looking for a substitute for, two things:
- exDialer. It's an imperfect substitute for the stock phone dialer. I loved the Jelly Bean phone dialer, and I miss it dearly. KitKat phone dialer would also do nicely. Preferably something that has a nice integration with the stock Contacts app, or a similarly good contacts app. I don't actually mind the HTC People app so much, but if I have to give that up for a better phone dialer, I'll do that gladly.
- HTC Sense notification shade. The most major part I'm unhappy with. I really miss the Cyanogen notification shade and status bar. I miss the stock Jelly Bean (4.2+) status bar look (blue color, compact icons, and especially the circular battery meter), and I miss the full black notification shade w/ the power widgets bar. I've installed Power Toggles, which provides a pretty nice widgets bar, except that in order for it to stay at the top of the notification shade I need to keep an icon present in the status bar. I'm kind of a neat-freak w/ my status bar, so I want it as uncluttered as possible, meaning if a notification does appear there I notice it immediately. If need be I can live with the existing Sense notification shade, but I would love for the status bar to be Jelly Bean beautiful again.
Anybody have a solution to those two things (dialer and notification shade)?

I might have a solution for the shade, standby while testing...
My bad, doesn't work. I will share my lead though...
The notification shade code is contained in an app called SystemUI.apk. Turns out it's pretty set in the system. My idea was just to drop it in. It didn't work, and in order to make it work requires the replacement of so many components you might as well flash a new ROM. I have consolation though, it is entirely possible to make a Sense based version that looks like stock(modding resources). I recommend PM'ing xpirt or ckpv5 about this. Sorry I couldn't help

Thanks for trying! I kinda figured that the shade is somehow deeply rooted in the system. Out of all the things I've been looking into replacing, by far the hardest thing to find anything for is the shade. Well, that and the lockscreen I guess (so-called "replacement" lockscreens basically only work on top of the system one, never replacing it).
Would PM-ing those users be considered bad form on this forum, me being a first time user and all?

I think Xpirt was making an AOSP theme which has long been stopped (i would continue it but don't really have a lot of time nor patience atm) you're best bet is third party apps and themes.

I think I have a solution the 2 problems,
You can take a dialer app from the s2 CM 10 and try that one (kitkat doesn't work)
For the shade you can try to replace some files in systemui.apk with the one from the S2 or S2 plus in the res folder

You can take a dialer app from the s2 CM 10 and try that one (kitkat doesn't work)

Was super busy with the holidays and such, so haven't had a chance to look at the suggestions. And since a stable version of SuperSense 5 was released in the meantime I think I'm just gonna stick with that. Ran Rom Cleaner on it, and that's fixed most of my issues. Love it now. Nice dialer/contacts app, nice notification shade. Only the taskbar, but I can live with that..
